On Good Friday, the day of Jesus crucifixion and death, solemn masses are held and various religious rites are practiced such as the veneration of the Cross or processions with life-size statues representing the suffering of Christ.

Some places in Italy are particularly famous for their Holy Week celebrations, is a time of vigil and waiting for the resurrection.
