Changes
My Idea ultimately came to me when I was looking through my fashion magazines. I love anything Makeup, Fashion and Beauty related. I wanted to create a book series which was fun and aesthetically pleasing which drew people in from the cover. For my first designs I used the computer for majority of my work. I got feedback from Alejandra Ramirez Vidal and she advised me to create “The Power of Makeup” with actual makeup. For “The simpleness of Beauty” To use beauty utensils, I tried this however I felt that it looked stronger using a nail polish look. I feel like this helps finish off my books series.

Manifesto For my book covers I decided to create my own series relating to Beauty, Fashion and Makeup. My love for these topics is endless. I enjoy learning different tips and tricks and creating awesome looks as well as becoming a better person. My book series is to inspire people around the world helping them enjoy life to the fullest and become the best version of themselves.
FRONT I wanted to create an aesthetically strong design throughout all of my front pages whilst being somewhat minimalistic. I decided to create three different watercolour designs and then scan them into the computer and create vectors in Illustrator. This was quite challenging to start with as some of the colours didn’t portray the outcome I wanted. I managed to change some of the colours around to make them more visually pleasing and look more vectorised rather that watercolour as such. I finally created the effect I was after which are the designs depicted on the book covers. For the first book “The Power of Makeup” I used a black eyeliner pencil for “The Power of” and for “Makeup” I used a red lipstick. For the second book “The Secret to Fashion” I wasn’t able to create the effect I wanted with a brush. I decided that I would put my creative computer skills to the test. I am more competent on the computer than hand typography, with that being said I used a found a simple font and created it into a brush stroke like effect. I then extended the some of the entities to make it more lifelike. I also created my own brush which added to some of the strokes visible. For the third book “The simpleness of Beauty” I hand drew the typography then put it into Illustrator and made it look like nail polish. I used inner and out glows focusing on creating the transparent effect. I used hand typography for the “By Kara Brown” although it doesn’t look like much for me it was a big challenge trying so many different styles, from calligraphy to simple type. I came to the decision to use a simple more minimalistic typography style as I didn’t want it to take away from the title by being curly or a calligraphy style. I then scanned them in and created vectors however I fixed them up in Illustrator by making them look more professional. They look exactly like one of the standard fonts, which is where I got my inspiration from.
BACK For the back I extended each watercolour to look like its flowing to the other side. I had position them in the correct position to make it look seamless. I also used the Direct Select tool to create different shapes with them. I created a small blurb about each book explaining what the book is about and how you can benefit from it.
