Personal Statement I am an aspiring architect, and what influences me in my work is how the spaces in a project affect the stakeholders: physically, mentally, and emotionally. Coming from a Chinese background living in the Philippines can sometimes feel that I am on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Conversely, in college, I am surrounded by a different culture. These exposures helped me understand more about the personal and emotional responses of an architectural space. Spending time with my hobbies such as going to the gym, playing basketball, taking pictures, exploring film techniques, and lettering relax my mind and empathize with others. It also helps me gain creative confidence and bring a different idea to the table. I love architecture because it ables me to explore what’s out there in the world. It encourages me to gain flexible skills in different forms of art, solve pressing problems that some people unfairly neglect where I could hugely impact one day. It deviates me from focusing on only my interest, but instead, I ask what I could improve on other people.

Project Brief | P. 06
Our Global Ambition For many of us, the year 2020 was met with unprecedented challenges. It has left our lives disrupted and even devastated. The question we collectively face is that of how to move forward after a global pandemic. Everyday, we, civilians stand on a bridge between the life that we have and the life we are working towards. With that said, The U.N. Cloudscape, aims to give guidance and apparent hope as we realign our goals to those that will inevitably shape our world’s future.
A Call to Action In 2015, the United Nations (U.N.) came up with the 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) that represent our global goals and aspirations. These 17 goals will be described with the 17 rings that envelope the structure. It serves as a constant reminder and real-time progress tracker for country-member to be held accountable. The intertwined rings symbolize each goal connected with the others—meaning that these problems cannot be solved as an isolated case. As more goals make progress, the rings float to the top; however, if specific targets are not achieved, the rings gradually sink and drag other rings down with it. It is a clear visual indicator for each country-member that they’re falling behind in their efforts, and it is a call for more capable countries to lend a helping hand.
A Metamorphic Monument Today, we live in the age of information and technology where data and research can be accessed online. What we propose, instead, is a reminder of what’s essential. We need something that physically embodies our abstract pursuits—the proposal is a metamorphic monument— something that encapsulates prominence and transformation in a skyscraper. The idea of skyscrapers, otherwise known as architectural giants for the modern world, emerged to address urban cities’ density. It became a symbol of wealth and upward mobility. The design proposal explores a floating skyscraper idea, where it can introduce a new public realm for architecture and people—air space. This way, the proposed design is not limited by land availability and instead be situated at a general distance for everyone to see. U.N. Cloudscape is located in every U.N. World Capital City. First, be a catalyst that sparks a global conversation, and second, to show solidarity as one nation. It is a skyscraper inclusive to all humanity because of its universal importance. Furthermore, a floating skyscraper lessens the harm done to our ecosystem by bypassing any excavation or other intervention with the soil.
Abuja, Nigeria
Nawa oh! I didn’t know that we have a collective responsibility to our community.
Manila, Philippines
Oya! I think we have to start reflecting on our daily routine.
Naku! Nigeria’s U.N. Cloudscape does not look too good.
Waw ang ganda! It’s almost complete, I wish our U.N. Cloudscape were like Denmark’s.
Copenhagen, Denmark Det er fedt! It’s great that we have our goals on track, but let’s not forget the others!
Ja! Yes! These SDGs are universal importance. Time to lend our hands!
Concept | P. 07
A Collective Vision The capitals shown on the left are examples of 3 of the 193 U.N. World Capital Cities. The skyscraper reminds the community that their purpose is not to just eat, sleep and die, but warns them that they are on a tight rope and depend on each other to succeed. Countries with their SDGs on track must serve as a helping hand to heal those with decreased metamorphic processes.

Emergency Response The proposed design also acts as a satellite port (Aid Dome) for delivering relief goods and humanitarian aid services during emergency situations. Helicopters bringing in relief aid can land on the helipad landing where goods can be distributed efficiently through Zipline drone delivery or distributed through land transport.

Sometimes it is beautiful to be remebered, even if only for a little while” The Big Thing, Architecture of the Abandoned
Jeepney Camper Starts recycling jeepney parts as building material
The project responds to the phasing out of jeepneys by the Public Utilization Modernization Program. Jeepneys, known as the “King of the Road,” are the Philippines’ main public transportation, and it symbolizes the art and culture of Filipinos. The existing Jeepney Camper catalyzes the project’s goal of creating adaptive reuse structures. Thus, the goal of the project is to repurpose these abandoned vehicles. Fragmenting Fractals Fractals are identical shapes across different scales, which serve as the basis for the houses’ size. The disintegration effect serves as trails creating a tension between nostalgia and abandonment. The concept shows transitions through giant fractals to small fractals which symbolizes that jeepneys are fragmenting away.

It revolutionizes within metropolitan areas, and it is one of the most anticipated parts of modern aviation as it caters to passengers and cargo. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is committed to supporting these accessible air transport systems with the Urban Air Mobility community’s help to identify and address the questions, upcoming innovation, challenges, and regulations.
D Skyport
Vertihub It operates akin to a small airport for eVTOLs located on the periphery of urban and suburban areas (lying outside the urban growth boundary). It is the most extensive UAM infrastructure, a central site for eVTOLs flying in a geographical location, and at least one vertihub in each city. There should be operators for maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) operations. It is a centralized city-wide operation control system designed for resiliency which means that there should be a continuous operation whenever there is an unplanned disruption (Robin Lineberger, 2019).
eVTOLs Electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicles are the types of aircraft used for UAM and Uber Air ridesharing (Elevate, 2019).

Response and Possible Realities The idea of independence frees us from the higher power. However, we need to find a source of our needs to survive and proceed to a more advanced civilization —The Civic Spacecraft. Bridging the gap between digital, virtual and materiality, The Projector Zone and Neutral Buoyancy Pool allows the spacecraft to create alternate realities. The eVTOL helps us gather samples from the projections. The project calls for the response and possible realities of economic issues: inequality, energy, environment, prospects for growth, and the impact of new technologies. The basis of the project starts from how the economy drives and controls society. The Kardashev scale measures how to advance the technological advancement based on the amount of energy we utilize. The Civic Spacecraft projects alternate realities (Type 1-3 and Scale Extension) while considering the general culture traits: Universal and Contra-culture.

Scale Extension It is one of Kardashev’s scale civilizations that controls multiple galaxies, and it is already beyond human comprehension.
The art world and the natural world’s pragmatism are projected to become memories that make people conscious. The project leaves a digital trail to fix some issues which bridge the digital, virtual, and materiality. Eventually, those who are informed may improvise by learning from their ideals, and future mistakes are shown in the Alternate Realities.

Capturing an architectural element from a different angle helps me identify how these buildings affect the sociology of spaces. A band performing on stage creates a feeling of excitement. An aerial shot of the university makes an omniscient point of view that architects may discern when designing a site development plan. An airport creates a welcoming vibe that improves the convenience of travel. As I grow older and see the walks of life, I realized that there is so much to capture, even if it’s a street child playing. These fleeting moments help me gain inspiration and clarity, which I continue to use this skill that affects my design process.
