Design Brief •

•

•

I will be designing a electric car charging station with a restaurant. With the increase of electric cars there is not enough charging areas. The areas that are available are always just at the back of a car park so I want to make a charging station that has a restaurant so people can go have a meal whilst charging their cars. The theme for my station will be natural & organic as well as movement and flow. I want to make it seem more green and environmentally friendly. I want to move away from boring and simple gas stations and motorway services and design something more visually interesting and efficient.

Specification • • • • • •

The space will be enough to accommodate a area for recharging electric vehicles and a restaurant. It has to feature green spaces outside and in. Create the illusion of escaping from city and manufacturing. Have multiple entrances. Quite big area so many visitors can attend Have natural lighting as well as artificial lighting Washrooms

Location •

The location I have chosen is on the A13 on the Stanford le hope bypass. I would like to knock down the existing buildings In that area.

Natural & Organic

Movement & Flow

NP Gas Station, Spain Designed by Moneo-Brock, the NP Gas Station is located in Madrid, Spain. It’s constructed on 7391 sqm of site area. I like this building in particular as it captures the flow of movement through the curves on its canopy, on a clear statement towards landscape almost adopting the shape of flying bird for its canopy additionally the canopy also look like clouds on the horizon between earth and sky. The building has a more playful and contemporary character to other architecture. The shelter represents a fluid movements clearly looking to the natural landscape

Viamala Raststatte Thusis Designed by Iseppi/Kurath it is located in GraubĂźnden, Switzerland I think this building is interesting as the shape of it almost blends in with the hills behind it. I like the idea of the building not disrupting the flow of nature and not obstructing the view as the shape of it follows the natural outline of the hills and cliffs behind it

Wire drawings

My brief refers to the theme of movement and flow so I have created some wire sculptures by folding thin pieces of wire to influence my design. I mainly Played around with curved lines and just tried as many variations as I could.

I also decided to look at the flow and movement of water to influence my ideas.

Primary pictures

Similar to Moneo Brock I was inspired to make a deign that reflects the birds body in some way as his design looked like bird wings in the skyline.

Spaces are composed in such way, that two major programs - vehicle services and dining are isolated from one another, both physically and visually so that all operations of fuel station are hidden from the view of the customers of the restaurant.

Interior spaces For my interior I would like it to be quite contemporary with simple earthy colours. I want to have wooden elements in my interior. Additionally I want greenery in my restaurant as decoration.
