POLICE PROBING MURDERS OF WOMEN IN GAUTENG R20 000 worth bursary for grabs pg 2

KILLED REPORTS have emerged recently of more women found murdered in Gauteng. Gauteng police are investigating after the bodies of four women were discovered at the weekend in and around Soweto. Friends Bongeka Phungula and Popi Qwabe were murdered in Naledi and Tladi. In another incident, the body of Lerato Moloi was discovered, also in Naledi at the weekend, while a fourth body was found at a dumping site in Mofolo. This comes as 11 men are expected to appear in the Johannesburg magistrate court on Wednesday morning in connection with the kidnapping and rape of a pregnant woman. The 22-year-old woman was walking home from work with a male colleague in the city centre, in the early hours of Monday morning, when she

FIKILE MBALULA was attacked. The police’s Xoli Mbele says: “A co-worker alerted the police which led to the arrest and retrieval of the victim’s body.” The body of a young woman was also found near Klerksdorp at the weekend. Meanwhile, 22-year-old Karabo Mokoena who was buried this past weekend, whose boyfriend has been arrested for her murder, will be remembered at a memorial service on Wednesday. Minister of social development Bathabile Dlamini said her killer knew he could not kill her confidence and decided to kill her instead. She was speaking at Karabo’s funeral service held at the Diepkloof Multipurpose Hall in Soweto. “Our children are being raised in times that are different from ours. They love money… They are materialistic. Our children don’t see when they

KILLED are being abused psychologically‚” said Dlamini. “But Karabo had strong confidence and he realised that the only thing is for her to go because she wouldn’t listen to him‚” said Dlamini. At the same time, Police Minister Fikile Mbalula says he’s extremely concerned about the rising number of attacks on women. “The fact that now it involves deaths… and women are vulnerable and defenceless. It is easy to take a life of a woman, for whatever reasons that the perpetrators might deem to be. But this has been going on for some time.” In another incident that shock the county earlier in the week, former Generation actor and radio DJ, Mandla Hlatswayo and his friend were shot and killed while trying to protect women from robbers who were trying to rob them. Hlatswayo was also buried this past weekend-www.ewn.co.za

The Sofn’Free HairXperts Masters Challenge competition kicked off after a nationwide search for the best hairstylists in the land – and the 18 of the best are duking it out for the main prize. With R250 000 on the line, as well as the title of the Ultimate HairXperts’ Master, stylists from across the country have brought their A-game to the table to ensure that they claim that coveted prize, and to ensure that they would not have the curtain closing on their dreams. But, that is the nature of the game, and every week one or more talented stylists will be asked to pack their hairbrushes and scissors. The competition kicked off with a Pre Style-Offs workshop led by the Sofn’free creative team, which consisted of hairstyling heavyweights in the industry – the likes of Isaac Letele and Xoli Ntshingila – giving the stylists some vital basics to keep in mind, such as how to properly drape a client with a towel, and to always be prepared for what a client wants. The stylists left the workshop feeling knowledgeable and confident about tackling their first task – which was all about relaxing hair. With Sofn’Free being one of the biggest, leading hair brands in Southern Africa, the pressure was on. Stylists had to showcase their technical skills in relaxing different types of hair, as well as their styling creativity to create an overall look that

Ultimately it was Treavor Mokoaledi from the Free State who earned himself a win by creating the most impressive overall look. The eliminated contestants are still in the running to claim the Viewers’ Choice award though, which will see the contestant with the most votes as decide by the public, walking away with a R30 000 grand prize. So keep voting for your favourite contestant, and they may just claim that prize! Haggai finished the provincial championships with 10 points with their closest rivals, Kgwahlele Primary from Mokopane in the Water Region which ended their group match with 7 points. The two schools were however supposed to face each other in the final match, but the match was down-pouring before the decision to declare the called off due to the slippery pitch after the heavy club with more points as winners.
