6/7 Hell’s Belles One of the few, and most popular, all-female rock groups of their generation, Hell’s Belles make it their mission to support female initiatives by collaborating with other female musicians, and actively encouraging society to move towards a balance of the gender scales. Since their union, these AC/DC enthusiasts have actually been endorsed by Angus Young himself — making them the closest we can get without actually moving to Hell’s Belles, 6/7 Australia and joining AC/DC’s road crew. Consistently performing in front of sold-out audiences, there isn’t a fan in the world who isn’t blown away by one of their concerts. 8:00 p.m. $25 / $20 early bird.

7/3 Richie Furay Band Musical legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Richie Furay is the formidable writer, guitarist and vocalist of the pivotal rock group Buffalo Springfield whose organic, home-grown musical approach reverberated beyond the 60’s. The group, with famous members such as Stephen Stills and Neil Young, laid the groundwork for the folk-rock and country-rock genres that took root in the 70’s, serving as the foundational precursor to Richie Furay Band, 7/3 artists such as the Eagles and Jackson Brown. 7/13 Matt Flinner Trio Grammy-nominated mandolinist Matt Flinner livens up the Crested Butte Food & Wine Festival’s Grand Tasting with new twists on bluegrass and American roots music. Hailed by Downbeat Magazine as “one of the best mandolin players ever,” Flinner has established a reputation as one of the most respected composers and innovators in modern American acoustic music. His projects and collaborations range from bluegrass to jazz to classical to new acoustic music, all with the common thread of American roots music with a creative edge. He has toured and recorded with a wide variety of artists, including Tim O’Brien, the Modern Mandolin Quartet, Leftover Salmon, and Alison Brown. His current group, the Matt Flinner Trio (with guitarist Ross Martin and bassist Eric Thorin), has forged new pathways in acoustic string band music. At the Big Mine Ice Rink. 3:00 p.m. $75 for the Grand Tasting which includes Matt Flinner concert.
7/26 An Evening with Keller Williams Since he first appeared on the scene in the early 90’s. Keller Williams has defined the term “independent artist.” Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, not two of which are ever alike. Williams’ solo live shows, and his ability to improvise to his determinedly quirky tunes despite the absence of an actual band, quickly became the stuff of legend, and his audience grew exponentially. Today when he performs as a one-man band he sings his compositions and cover songs accompanied by an acoustic guitar connected to a delay system that allows him to simulate a full band. Keller is a singer, songwriter and musician, always on a quest for the new and has never followed the prescribed path laid out by the conventional music business. 7:30 p.m. $35 / $30 early bird. At the Big Mine Ice Rink, 620 Second Street.

8/30 Town Mountain Staying true to bluegrass in all the right ways, yet contributing to their form’s evolution by tossing in influences of surf-rock, gospel and honkey-tonk, Town Mountain finds themselves as one of the preeminent torchbearers of their craft. Centering around strong, soulful and uniquely harmonic vocals, they offer a welltraveled sound, a telepathic pickin’ style filled with mesmerizing interplay, and intoxicating rhythms that energize every tune. Having collaborated with the likes of Doc Watson and David Grisman, Town Mountain was part of the official showcase of the prestigious International Bluegrass Music Association in 2011. They are Phil Barker on mandolin and vocals; Robert Greer on lead vocals and guitar; Jesse Langlais on banjo and vocals; Bobby Britt on fiddle; and Jake Hopping on bass. 8:00 p.m. $15. Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers, 8/4
Since we last heard from grammy-nominated artist Shawn Mullins on 2008’s honeydew, the Atlanta-based singer/songwriter and bandleader has undergone a series of transformative experiences, leading to a second coming for the veteran artist. Evidence of Mullins’ newfound level of musical and lyrical ambition courses comes through with Light You Up, his latest release. This captivating song cycle will likely be viewed as a flat-out revelation even by Mullins’ most fervent fans. This album is overflowing with perfect rhymes, telling detail and underlying intimations. This is uncommonly literate stuff, striking in its insightfulness and compassion. Delivered by Mullins in his companionable baritone, as lived-in and textured as your favorite pair of faded jeans, amid the relentless rhythms, churning Hammond organ runs and swooping guitar lines, every line is absolutely spellbinding, adding incrementally to the album’s gripping intensity. “I felt like I needed to get the listener’s attention with this record,” says Shawn. He can consider that a mission accomplished. 8:00 p.m. $25.

The misadventures begin when Miles, an unrecovered divorcé and would-be novelist with a wine fixation, decides to gift old college buddy and washed-up actor Jack with a celebratory trip to the vineyards of the Santa Ynez Valley the week before Jack’s wedding. The two couldn’t be an odder couple. Jack is an over-sexed charmer; Miles is a sad-sack worrier. Indeed, the only thing they seem to share in common is the same heady mix of failed ambitions and fading youth. And yet, as they make their way up the coast, Miles and Jack soon find themselves drowning in wine and women. Both men careen dangerously and comically toward mid-life crises. Now, the wedding approaches and with it the certainty that Miles and Jack won’t make it back to Los Angeles unscathed or unchanged … if they get back there at all. Part of the Crested Butte Wine & Food Festival Kick Off party which also includes appetizers and wine tasting with Master Sommeliers. 6:00 p.m. Free for Wine & Food Festival passholders or $10.
Moonrise Kingdom is the new movie directed by two-time Academy Awardnominated filmmaker Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Rushmore). Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore, and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in every which way. Cast includes Edward Norton, Bruce Willis, Frances McDormand and Jason Schwartzman. 7:00 p.m. $10.

9/19 Sneak Peek of the Crested Butte Film Festival
SAMSARA is a Sanskrit word that means “the ever turning wheel of life” and is the point of departure for the filmmakers as they search for the elusive current of interconnection that runs through our lives. Filmed over a period of almost five years and in twenty-five countries, SAMSARA transports us to sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial sites, and natural wonders. By dispensing with dialogue and descriptive text, SAMSARA subverts our expectations of a traditional documentary, instead encouraging our own inner interpretations inspired by images and music that infuses the ancient with the modern. This film has some intense imagery and is not intended for young children. Please go to cbfilmfest.org for location. 7:00 p.m. $10.

6/29 Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Jewelry Crafting Workshop
6/29 Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Jewelry Crafting Workshop Precious metal clay, PMC, is a crafting medium, with the consistency of polymer clay, which is comprised of very small particles of metal (in this case silver). The “clay” is used to form beautiful pendants, rings, and earrings for jewelry pieces. Once the clay has been shaped to the user’s liking, it is fired in a tabletop kiln. During the firing process, the binder in the PMC burns away, incredibly leaving a 99% pure silver piece. No experience is necessary. Instructor: Mary Tuck. 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. $85 includes all supplies.

7/1–7/8 Kimbre Woods: “Nostalgic for Crested Butte” Kimbre Woods’ photographic work focuses on nature, highlighting Crested Butte, and is a showcase of the surrounding Gunnison National Forest in photographic printing processes from the 1800’s. The result is ethereal images that take the viewer to a quieter place. The show includes hand tinted photographs, dreamy blue Cyanotypes, rich chocolate brown Argyrotypes, and Tri Color Gum Bichromates. Never do two of her prints look the same. They are all originals, under the spell of her ongoing investigation of the best way to realize each image. Reception: Tuesday, July 2, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free.

7/8–7/15 Adam Freed: “Impressions, In & Around Crested Butte” Adam’s paintings are created using high viscosity oil paints on stretched canvas. Each painting is researched on site through a combination of drawings, photographs and painting techniques to capture the initial composition. The pieces are finished in the studio using a variety of impressionistic strokes combined with Adam’s own intuitive reaction to the subject matter. Layers of varying brush strokes give each painting texture, depth and movement. The final product is the union of careful observation and Adam’s own individual expression. Reception: Tuesday, July 9, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free.

9/16–9/30 Jesse Blumenthal: “New Works” Becky Chappell: “Color & Light Expressions”, 7/22–7/29
7/22–7/29 Becky Chappell: “Color & Light Expressions” Becky Chappell’s passion for painting comes from her need to express the inspiration she feels and the beauty around her. Of all the choices of techniques and mediums available, Becky has always felt painting to be the most natural and expressive way for her to communicate. She loves exploring it all! This show showcases her past impressionistic landscapes and other paintings, as well as her more current abstract work. Reception: Tuesday, July 23, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free.
Jesse Blumenthal has made work in industrial materials on the subject of the natural environment. The clash of the natural represented within the inherently processed and human material creates an ironic tension in the work. Sculptural works in steel, stone, iron, and bronze are exhibited alongside bright, energetic paintings in spray paint, acrylic, markers, and oil pastels. The works carry a whimsical tone with dark subject matter. Strongly contemporary, the work offers another perspective on our natural environment and will serve as an excellent counterpoint to the old world feel of Vinotok! Reception: Monday, September 16, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free. Jesse Blumenthal “New Works”, 9/16–9/30
8/5–8/19 Shayn Estes: “Mountain Majesty” Shayn Estes is a mountain landscape photographer who specializes in photographs taken from near treeline and above with an emphasis on sunrises and sunsets. Many of his photos have taken him months or years to acquire, and through his passion, persistence, and devotion, he has created a large selection of truly impressive and genuine photographs. Reception: Tuesday, August 6, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Free.

Friends of the Center Don’t miss a single creative moment from the Center for the Arts! Our new Friends of the Center Loyalty Program is a sure-fire way to make sure you have the means to reserve your seat through low-priced art and dance classes; cut-rate ticket prices on our winter and summer seasons; free drink tickets; and discounts to local businesses. The bonus is that as a Loyalty Program participant you also help the Center keep its doors open in offering diverse programming to the entire community. This is an inexpensive way to help sustain Alpenglow; provide affordable rental rates of our facility; and help keep ticket costs as low as possible for nationally touring presenters. Your involvement provides an investment in the future of the arts in our valley. In gratitude we want to get you into shows and classes at discounted rates. Come be an integral part of the Center — and reap the rewards!

SUPPORT THE CENTER
As the Center continues to grow programs in order to meet the needs of our diverse community and prepare for a facility expansion, we appreciate support at a variety of different levels. Operating the Center as an affordable community facility means that we must rely on contributions and fundraising for about two-thirds of our budget. We offer special fundraising groups to support the Center’s mission of offering engaging opportunities and educational experiences to enrich and expand the life of our community.
Center Circle For the Center’s 15th anniversary season in 2003, the first group of Center Circle members made a commitment to make the first Winter Season happen. The membership in this group remains strong, providing the funds that enable us to plan early for the next Winter Season and to expand our programming. Center Circle members make a financial commitment to bring extraordinary artists to Crested Butte. New members are always welcome.
Founders’ Club The Founders’ Club plays a key leadership role in providing the Center for the Arts with a solid foundation for growing and sustaining high quality and progressive programs. They ensure the continuation of the Centers original vision — to be responsive to the needs of the community. By making a financial contribution, the Founders’ Club supports programs in the following areas: visual arts, adult education, children and youth programs, local artists / sketch classes and world events and cultural diversity.

pARTners Center pARTners was established in 2005 with the purpose of promoting community awareness and involvement in the Center for the Arts by working together on FUN fundraising events. Now, the organization boasts over 70 members, all working to advance the arts in the community. Center pARTners help fundraise not only through Tour de Forks, but also through a variety of auctions, feasts and dances throughout the year. Dues are $10. For more information, and a registration form, visit www.crestedbuttearts.org then click on the “Support” then “Center pARTners” tabs.
