OCTOBER 2018

#iamthhankful I sometimes get questioned about my outlook on life. Pie-in-the-sky, rose coloured glasses, optimist. But really, I am just thankful. When I look at my life BC (before Christ), I wasn’t a thankful person. I envied the neighbours who lived directly beside us (who happened to be a pastor and his family), I felt very insignificant and my future looked small. Walking with and living in step with Jesus, being thankful for His love, being grateful for the struggles that I am working through gives me hope, joy and strength. Growing up with 3 younger brothers was something I was not always thankful for. But just recently I was having a heart-to-heart with one of my brothers. Some of our topics were not easy, but very necessary. I smiled slightly during our honest conversation and thought, I am so thankful for this moment-I am truly grateful for the many years that I have had the blessing of this relationship. My brother, knowing me so well said, “what is that smile about?”. My reply…”YOU”! I could not have imagined this scenario even happening as a teenager. But GOD brings us these precious moments, these glimpses of His grace in our everyday living/working/loving and being. I choose to live in the thanking, being grateful! I sit here typing and I am slightly smiling. What is that about you ask? YOU! As we journey through THANKSGIVING and our 30 days of #iamthankful, chose one of the Bile verses to hold on to. Here is mine: ...giving thanks always and everything to God the Father… Ephesians 5:20 Enjoy your thanksgiving journey, Kathy & Pastor Bill I was thinking about what I’m thankful for and I thought about the Servant & Pastor’s Councils. I’m thankful for all them. (In no specific order) I’m thankful for Rick who leads the business of ALCC and even cut the grass regularly. What an amazing leader that humbly serves in every capacity. I’m thankful for Kathleen who does the accounting and what an amazing leader who is faithful and prays over the finances. I’m thankful for Paul M who does maintenance and what an amazing leader who is squeezed for time and still makes time for ALCC. I’m thankful for Paul B who has been in lots of the church ministries and what an amazing leader that He stands strong in faith for the vision of ALCC. I’m thankful for Roy & Cathy who do so much. They are amazing leaders that are hardworking, generous and striving to move forward as ALCC. I’m thankful for Kenn who does sound. He is an amazing leader that is always trying to improve and take the ministry to the next level. I’m thankful for Mike F who leads the music ministry and beyond. He is an amazing leader that is full of passion and drive to see God’s people raise their hands and their lives to Jesus. I’m thankful for Rachel who does the café. She is an amazing leader who has grown so much in her faith that it’s overflowing into Sunday Morning Café. I’m thankful for Bessie who does mission and is an amazing leader by example and her sensitive heart towards God hugs us all. I’m thankful for Wendy Oster who leads CR and she is an amazing leader that shows how our God is faithful and we can celebrate recovery. I’m thankful for Kathy Innes. She is an amazing leader who connects us all and who does the work behind the scenes, so we have a place that we call “home”. I’m thankful for Bethany who does ALCC Kids. She is an amazing leader who truly loves our children and who strives to cultivate ministries that our children can grow together and discover our personal God. I’m thankful for Pastor Bill. He is an amazing leader that has fought off wolves, who sacrifices for us and makes decisions based off who He is in Jesus. I’m thankful for the leadership team that we have and their spouses. I could have said a lot more and so can you. So today, I encourage you to tell them how thankful you are for these amazing leaders. They need to hear it. You may be the encouragement that God wants to speak into their lives. Oh, and don’t worry,
I’m thankful for you too! #iamthankful – Tony Mejia

SINCE 2006 Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered,12 step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain or addiction of any kind. Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to find community and freedom from the issues that are controlling our life. OUR STORY Each one of us has a valuable story to tell. We may be shy and feel awkward about speaking. We may think that what we have to share is too trivial. Is it actually going to help anyone else? We may struggle to get beyond the shame of our past experiences. But our recovery story can help others who are trapped back where we were. Are we willing to allow God to use us to help free others? Jesus left us with this vital task: “Go into all the world and preach the Good News of salvation from the bondage and penalty of sin to everyone” (Mark 16:15). The apostle Paul traveled the world over telling everyone of his conversion. He ended up in chains, but his spirit was free. He presented his defense (and his own story of redemption) before kings. King Agrippa interrupted him to say, “Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?” Paul replied, “Whether quickly or not, I pray to God that both you and everyone here in this audience might become the same as I am, except for these chains”. Within each personal journey from bondage to freedom is a microcosm of the Gospel. When people hear our story, even if it seems trivial, we are offering them the chance to loosen their chains and begin their own recovery. THURSDAY’S 7-9 pm PotLuck Oct.25 6-7 pm
