HELLOoo KIWIN’S!!

Do you know why fish don’t like volleyball? Because they’re afraid of the nets xD xD But it’s okay, because we Lina Vo know that manatees still like volleyball! On August 15, Edison KIWIN’S and La Quinta KIWIN’S La Quinta High School banded together to host the SECOND annual volleybrawl Jet Division at Huntington Beach! Although the event was supposed to take place at the courts on Beach Blvd, relocations had to be made down to Brookhurst St because there were not enough nets and courts. As expected, many of the participants as well as the people who just wanted to watch were less than thrilled with these last minute changes. This obstacle showed us that in the future, we would need to arrive at the beach much much earlier and have some backup plans at the ready. After all the teams checked in and the money and paperwork was collected, spirits definitely lifted! Whether people were playing in a game, watching a game, or taking a breather before their next game, I could practically SEE the positive vibes shining! Or maybe that was the sun beating down on my poor sunburnt shoulders. Whatever it was, the tournament was ! ! . Even two random strangers asked to join in on the fun! Despite the immense amount of planning that went into the volleybrawl, the experience was absolutely worth it. All the games were interesting to watch, especially the intense finals between the Liberators and LQ! (SPOILER: The Liberators won!) It was also a bonus that so many non-KIWIN’S members got to mingle with and get exposed to the ohana that is KIWIN’S! The best part about the whole thing is that all of LQ’s profits from the tournament will go to our minor emphasis, PTP!!! YAYSIES.

BBC showing gnarly moves while wearing gnarly matching shirts

The Liberators celebrating their victory of super cute trophies and super cute $80

Hands in the air like they just don’t care (except they did because this was the final game)

BAKE SALE? BAKE SALE.

Hello there KIWINNERS!! In the month of September, your beloved LQ KIWIN'S managed to host not just one, but two amazing bake sales! Our first raised money for Project Eliminate while our second was for PTP. We were able to collect a decent amount of donations at each bake sale, and it's great to see that each time we have another bake sale, we are improving and making more money! As we get more experienced with them, things just seem to run smoother. One obstacle that we used to face was how to attract people to come and listen to our cause. In order to capture their attentions, one of our board members proposed that we all wear our bright yellow shirts that spell out "♼LQ KIWIN'S 15 16♼" on the day of the bake sale! This turned out to be a successful idea because not only did we get more people to notice us, but the coordination also made us feel united and created a more enthusiastic mood for both us and the customers! All in all, the bake sales were super successful in my opinion and would definitely be fundraisers that I would like to have again in the future. Hopefully with each new bake sale comes new knowledge on how to improve ourselves as well!!

LQ KIWIN'S OUT.

Tea Party Lounge Flyer Fundraiser

AUGUST 2015 This fundraiser was a pretty basic flyer fundraiser, with people going into the place and ordering food, with 25% going to our club. What made this fundraiser special is it was the culmination of all the growth our board through this summer, with our secretaries advertising like crazy, our tech chair making a wonderful banner, and the rest of our board coming up with the great idea of a fundraiser during a popular event like Concerts in the Park. Overall, our fundraiser went extremely smooth, and I am optimistic for our club in the coming school year.

Mangimos Gelato w/ FV KIWIN'S

By Andrew Doan Fountain Valley KIWIN'S, Jet Division

October 2015 For PTP week, FV KIWIN'S had a gelato fundraiser at Mangiamo Gelato, which worked out surprisingly well. We were hesitant about having a fundraiser here since the last time we had a fundraiser at a dessert place (Zero Degrees), it wasn't very successful. However, we learned our lesson from our failure and advertised the gelato fundraiser like madmen, spamming as many newsfeed as possible and posting all over Instagram. Overall, the fundraiser turned out very successful despite our low expectations and helped our board become more organized when it comes to advertising on social media since our president, Angela, made a schedule for when board members should advertise.

ARTICLE Club Cafe On October 17 from 10 am and 3 pm, Club Cafe took place at Marina High School by not only by KIWIN'S but also Joni's Angels, Red Cross, VSA, Key Club, She's the First, and Make A Wish clubs. All proceeds of this fundraiser went to Heifer International; it also was a great way to serve our community and serve them food. Heifer International is an organization that fights against world hunger and poverty and supports sustainability. The event was held in our school's cafe. Luckily, the Special Olympics was also being held at our school so we were able to serve all sorts of people! We took volunteers from all the clubs participating and we also set up artists to paint people's portraits and talent show acts, like our Key Club president singing to the cafe. Our Improv Club also agreed to come and perform. They engaged with the audience and make things a bit more lively. We also had raffles! There were three packages ranging in $40-$80 value. Attendees could also participate in our instagram contest where winners were randomly selected and won Starbucks gift cards. The presidents of all the clubs have been planning this event for 6 months with the help of their boards. We had a very successful day with more than enough volunteers to serve the customers. People agreed to be waiter, chefs, runners, and cleaners. We decorated the tables and used the cooking classroom to make all of the food. We were able to raise money towards Heifer. Afterwards when we had extra food left over, we donated them to homeless shelters around our community. This was a great fundraising event, but also a great event to strengthen our bonds with the other clubs at Marina. Since then, we have gotten more requests to collaborate on things or just support events of other clubs. This was a great way to hang out with the other clubs and get to know each other better. One problem is that even though we had a huge outcome, majority of the money went to reimbursing for the food that was bought. Next year, we will have a better idea of budget to buy food and we will be planning ways to better the event through feedback from attendees, workers, and the adult chaperones that participated. We hope to to have an even bigger turnout next year! See you all there!

months and how you have grown as a club and treasurer. Talk about your fundraiser! Feel free to include pictures and a design, you do not have to use this template All TRA articles will be automatically submitted to be featured in the Treasurer Talk newsletter On August 19, Segerstrom KIWIN’S hosted their “Strike Out MNT bowling event at Fountain Valley Bowl. We wanted to find a fun way for members to spend their last few days of summer, so we decided to go with bowling. Board members worked hard to promote the event as much as possible. We tried to make the event well known and get more people to attend. Thanks to social media, members from other schools heard about our event. We rented out 6 lanes and had 5 people playing on each lane. Even though we did not fill all the lanes, we had a great turn out. Some members got the chance to play bowling for the first time with their friends.

We were happy to provide a fun environment for members to spend their time, while at the same time raising money for a good cause. This event helped all of our members bond over our impressive scores and laugh about the ball entering the gutter. The event gave members another chance to become closer as a club and as a family. A challenge was trying to get more people to arrive. However, we made the event as fun as possible for the number of people that did attend. I learned a type of event members enjoy attending. I will try and look out for more fundraisers similar to this one.

PV Peninsula Raises Money for the Boys and Lorem Ipsum Dolor Girls Club of South bay [Street Address] [City], [State][Postal Code]

On July 31, 2015 PV Peninsula KIWIN’sS decided to hold a donation drive outside their local grocery store, Pavillions. Together, they wanted to raise money for the Boys and Girls club of South bay, an organization that acts as a daycare for children that have problematic living situations. The day was filled with greeting grocery store customers as they walked in and out of the store, and cheering with KIWIN’sS spirit. It was very humbling to hear that we made some of the customers’ days. All in all, we were able to exceed our goal and spread awareness of the Boys and Girls club of South bay.

When members sign up to be a member of PVPHS KIWIN’s their dues are to be $15 of that $13.50. That extra $1.50 will go toward our club funds and will definitely be in good use. We had many exciting members eager to sign up, and overall we had over 100+ sign ups! After club rush we had our first meeting and had members turn in their dues as along a membership application form we made. We have over 20+ members logged in as official KIWINNER’s! And have over a profit of $33. We are still anticipating more after Early Bird passes, but this is a great start because we are a very small club at our school.

On Thursday, July 30th, nine Narbonne

KIWIN’S members and the club advisor

went to Paramount Studios in Hollywood

for a live shooting of Instant Mom. We were able to go on the set of the Nickelodeon sitcom and have a laugh with previous

“Sister, Sister” star Tia Mowry-Hardrict. Not only did we watch the shooting, there was a host who entertained us the entire five

hours. He gave out candy, did solo skits,

and pumped up the crowd for the show. For being a part of the live show audience, we fundraised $140 for Project Eliminate! We were also given the opportunity to be the audience of America’s Funniest Home Videos on Saturday, August 22nd, with Alfonso Ribeiro, also known as Carlton from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. We raised $210 for Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP).

GAUCHOS GO TO HOLLYWOOD!!!

By Alex Soriano, Narbonne KIWIN’S After school on October 28th, ten of our members along with our club advisor went to Hollywood to view the live taping of Little Big Shots! This new show was produced to showcase the nation’s most talented kids. Steve Harvey also gave the audience a great show by giving life lessons and games to pass the time. A few examples of the children that were showcased include a 9-year-old who can lead an orchestra and an 8-year-old from China who can hypnotize different animals to make them fall asleep. There was also a young three-time world champion golfer. Not only did we have fun, but we also raised $15 per person for being a part of the live audience.

Our First Eliminate Fundraiser of the Year!

! On the 15 of August, it was a really hot day and you know what’s really good on a hot day?? Watermelon and lemonade! Instead of it being sold separately, we mixed it up and made watermelon lemonade. You get your two favorite things in one cup for $3. We started selling around 11am up till 1pm. We sold only for 2 hours because the heat was making us really uncomfortable and there was barely any shade area for us to sell. Even though it was only for a short amount of time, we were able to raise about $50 and awareness about project Eliminate and KIWIN’S.

ARTICLE Hey Kiwins, KIWIN’S I hosted my very first fundraiser on October 23rd. We sold leis at our school's homecoming game. They were used as bracelets and hairbands. However, we only hosted it during the junior varsity game and not too many people came., Our president sold the leftover leis at Key to College at UCLA and we ended up selling 11 of them, with their price at 2 dollars. Although I did not raise what I expected, my club had a lot of fun making and selling the leis, KIWIN’S spirit, but also our which not only showed Kiwins school's. We''ve now decided that we would stay later at the games, and maybe expand our lei making to necklaces as well. We've improved as a club since we all did a part of the work. At the end of the day, it just shows that we can never expect something to occur, but sometimes, the objective changes. Our club KIWIN’S did not make a profit, but we did spread Kiwins cheer and awareness about PTP, where our money will be donated to. Here's to hoping our bake sale goes better! Thanks Kiwins, KIWIN’S, Valeria Apolinario PCHS Treasurer 2015-2016
