THE FERNY REPORT
from The Everton Echo
by Echo News
by Mark Furner M.P. State Member for Ferny Grove
Cheers!
In an Australian-first, the Palaszczuk Government will expand the Containers for Change program to include glass wine and spirit bottles from November 1, 2023. Since the start of the program, our community has made well over one million dollars from containers deposited.
Ferny Grove Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Update
Since the pandemic, as anyone who has been building a home or renovation knows, the building industry has faced difficulties with building supply costs, supply chain issues, labour shortages, and weather and flooding events.
Broad Construction, the company building the TOD, have announced they are facing significant delays in delivering the project. Although you may have seen the crane come down recently, there is still a great deal of work remaining to do inside the building.
The multi-level carpark, which is the part of the project I am most anxious to see completed is currently past its original delivery date and the Queensland Government is working with all concerned to resolve the issues Broad is facing to deliver the project as soon as possible.
Ferny Grove Markets Update
As you may read on my Facebook Page, the present Ferny Grove Markets have closed. Colin, the convenor, has decided to not take up the new contract offer from Queensland Rail (QR) and has moved his business to the Kedron Wavell Services Club in Chermside.
I am disappointed with this decision as once I forced QR to the negotiating table all parties involved in the negotiation worked in good faith to deliver the outcome Colin had requested.
As private businessman however, Colin is well within his rights to make a business decision which is best for him. I wish him all the best for the future.
The future for the markets at Ferny Grove remains open.
The offer QR made to Colin still stands for anyone who would like to run the markets at Ferny Grove. If you or anyone you know may be interested, please contact my office and my staff will connect you with the QR Leasing Team.
Have your say on Queensland’s Rental Laws
With more Queenslanders renting, and renting for longer, it is important that our rental laws reflect the modern rental market. The Queensland Government has released the Rental Law Options Paper (qld.gov.au/rentinginqld) and is inviting you to have your say.
Feedback is being sought on proposed changes including safety, security, and accessibility modifications; minor personalisation changes; rules governing privacy and access; and a review of the bond, fees and charges relating to transparency and accountability.
Gambling Community Benefit Fund now open
A maximum of $35,000 per organisation is available under Round 117 and applications will close at midnight on 31 May 2023.
