B1 B1: The Sidewalk
Existing LADOT parklet components include:
The base model for the Sidewalk Extension Parklet type is comprised of a series of benches with integrated planter boxes located around the outer edges of the Parklet. The benches alternate with wood-perimeter treatments to create a visually permeable space.

In our initial sketches of the bamboo protective boundary, the bamboo was taller and denser. We ultimately shortened the height and thinned it out for more visibility. We also added gaps in the boundary for easier parklet access and to allow vehicle passengers to open their doors and cross the bike lane.

We ultimately modified our original custom lattice structure design, deciding it would have been expensive to build and difficult to take down and transport.

We want to alter the street layout to make it safer and able to accommodate a parklet.
Original Street
The original street has a parking lane that turns into a right turn lane, followed by a bike lane, and a lane of traffic with a left turn lane in the center.
Changing the Lanes We want to switch the positions of the bike and parking lanes to protect bikers from moving traffic.
Adding the Parklet
A large parklet will use six parking spaces, and two spaces will be added in the right turn lane. The bike lane will bend around the parklet. A small parklet can also be added using only 3 spaces.

Current Downtown LA locations
We think it’s important to build a strong brand to connect the parklets and make them recognizable to community members. We have designed a set of logos, a bike lane sign, and a floor graphic that each parklet, no matter the size or location, will feature. In addition, we have produced a poster to advertise the current parklet locations.
