Firm Bio Husam Ghanim is a licensed Structural Engineer with over 12 years of experience. He has been involved in the design of many intricate and challenging structures. He has extensive experience in the design of tilt-up buildings, wood over podium, school projects, commercial and high end retail, soft story and seismic retrofit, laboratories, residential and hillside construction. Husam’s vast range of experience makes him a valuable part of the design team by providing creative and unique solutions that fit within the designer’s vision and are sensitive to the owner’s budget. Husam is also recognized as a leader and a mentor. He is a lecturer at California State University at Los Angeles, teaching courses such as Steel Design, Timber and Masonry Design. He also participates in the Structural Engineering Association of California as well as the California Emergency Management Agency as a structural specialist to be deployed after a disaster for reconnaissance and recovery. Teaching and attending professional development seminars allows Husam to keep his knowledge up to date, which makes sure his clients benefit from the technological advances in the field. 100 West Walnut The 100 West Walnut project was a collaboration between Lincoln Properties and AMLI Residential. It consists of 400 residential units and 210,000 square feet of office space above 17,500 square feet of retail and 4 levels of underground parking. The project’s office component by SOM Architects is a 5-story office tower with open front and back made possible by moment frames that are brick clad. The 5-story office tower features operable windows and open floor space. The residential portion of the development, which was designed by HED Architects, consists of several mid-rise buildings featuring a pedestrian passageway and outdoor gathering spaces. Blvd 6200 Apts The Boulevard 6200 Apartments are contemporary style buildings along Hollywood Blvd near the Pantages Theatre. The buildings include 500 apartment units and 60,000 square feet of commercial retail space at the ground level with amenities that range from a sun room to a gymnasium and a pool. The structure includes 5 levels of underground parking with 7 levels above grade. The structural system for the parking and retail spaces consists of both conventional concrete as well as post-tensioned concrete to reduce construction cost for ownership. The 5-story wood buildings utilize a unique shear wall truss type system (Smart Component) as well as conventional shear walls with shrinkage compensating devices. Project done at a previous firm.

1901 First St Apts Lyon Communities introduced this 242-unit apartment complex project in several 5-story level buildings. The buildings feature 14 townhomes with amenities including a gym and pool. The complex is located at the corner of First Street and Cabrillo Street. Structurally, the buildings were built on a post-tensioned slab on grade. One of the challenges of this project was building on top of the existing adjacent garage without retrofitting the existing foundations. A cantilevered post-tensioned slab was designed to mitigate the structural issue and reduce construction costs. Project done at a previous firm.
