NEW AT KAC

NEW AT KAC / PARTIES

New faces, new classes... Eddie Nino KAC welcomes drawing and painting instructor Eddie Nino to our Visual Arts staff. In his class, Drawing with Graphite-“The Foundational Tool”, Mr. Nino shares his love of graphite, a medium many of us have not used since we were children. The class, Drawing the Image: from Beginning to End, provides students with a highly structured approach to painting, guiding students on how to create color, value, and compositional studies, working up to a finished piece. Mr. Nino’s photo realistic style will provide a new avenue of study for KAC students. See page 26-27.

New faces, new classes... Spring Workshop Series Have you ever wanted to try your hand at a different medium or try a different form of dance but were reluctant to make a 10-12 week commitment? Our new Spring Workshop Series offers a variety of classes in four week blocks, perfect for discovering a new passion. Metalsmithing, African Dance, Batik and Fused Glass are some of the many topics being offered this spring. See pages 8-13.

Conner Ives We are thrilled to have Conner Ives, an aspiring Fashion Design-

er and former KAC student, teaching Fashion for kids this session. His passion for Fashion design, impressive resume of awards and honors and more importantly his incredible dress designs have earned him a place as the youngest instructor we have ever had on staff at KAC. Next fall Mr. Ives will be attending Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, the school that turned out fashion icons Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen. See page 24-25 for his Fashion classes.

Plein Air Flowers Join me in what I call my ‘middle-age’ passion! Nothing com-

pares to painting in the middle of a beautiful, luxurious garden! Here is your opportunity to use those “impulse purchase” paint colors! We will be meeting, weather permitting, at different gardens throughout the Katonah area. Instruction will be at your own individual level, in the medium of your choice. See page 26-27.

STEAM=

(Science + Technology + Engineering + Math) + ART

Did you know that Nobel laureates in science are 17 times more likely than the average scientist to be a painter; 12 times as likely to be a poet; and four times as likely to be a musician? The benefits of integrating art into the fields of science and technology are indisputable. We are excited to be offering a variety of children’s classes this spring and summer which incorporate STEAM concepts. From Silly Scientists for Pre-schoolers, to Lego-Art-chitecture and Robotic Sculpture for older kids, our STEAM classes are sure to bring out the DaVinci in your child!

TADA CLASSES

TADA CLASSES Early Childhood Little Dancers

(ages 3 & 4 yrs.) In this class, students will sing, dance and act. Imagination and movement (and a little bit of silliness) will be the staples of this class while exposing students to the rudiments of dance. This class is fun and appropriate for boys and girls alike!

Enrichment Dance (ages 4 & 5) Designed as an introduction to dance as part of our Renaissance Kindergarten Enrichmentprogram, OR on its own by enrollment. Students will investigate ballet and jazz to learn basic steps and dance vocabulary in each disciplinto explorethe beginnings of dance. Classes are designed to take the student to the ‘next level’ by building upon that foundation in a non-competitive instructional-focused environment. Students will learn rhythm, timing, coordination and balance as they experience the joy of dance.

Ballet Pre-Ballet (ages 4-5) See the website and the Fall 2014 Brochure. Kindergarten Ballet (ages 5-6) A great follow-up to Pre-Ballet, or introduction to Ballet for first-timers. Ballet is the basis for many forms of dance, so this class is great on its own, or beneficial when paired with any other Kindergarten dance course TADA offers. Basic ballet positions, terminology, and steps are taught in a supportive and encouraging environment appropriate to this age group.

Ballet I (ages 6-8) / Ballet II (ages 8-10) / Ballet III (ages 11-13) These classes are perfect for the Beginner and Advanced Beginner / Intermediate level dancer. Instructors will focus on strengthening the muscles, ankles and feet through exercises at the barre and center floor. Proper ballet positions, ‘steps’ and technique will be taught and combined into combinations and center floor work so that students can progress at their own pace in a nurturing and non-competitive environment. Instructors will provide individual attention to ensure that each student works safely at their own ability level.

Ballet IV (ages 14+) Ballet V (ages 14+) This is a multi-level class designed to encompass and encourage the dancer who has completed Ballet III. Dancers will continue to strengthen the body and core muscles through barre work, particularly the feet and ankles to prepare for more advanced work. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique and developing a repertoire of steps and movement through center floor work / combinations / progressions. Instructors will provide individual attention to ensure that each student works safely at their ability level to develop musicality, strengh and grace. Pre-Pointe In this class most work will be done at the barre. This class is designed to stregthen the feet, ankles, back and core, preparing dancers in a safe and technically sound manner to go en pointe. Students must also be registered for the Ballet III or Ballet IV on the same day.

Beginner / Adv Beg & Intermediate Adult Ballet Beg./Adv. Beg. ballet is for adults who have never had a ballet class or who would like to review the basics before starting their studies again, in a nurturing and non-competitive environment. Intermediate Ballet is for the student with prior training and a good knowlege of ballet terminology and movement. Instructors will introduce the basic exercises and body positions of ballet at the barre, with some center floor work-strengthen and tone while you learn. Come work out, have fun and bring out your “inner ballerina”!

Jazz/Tap Combinations Jazz/Tap Kindergarten (ages 5-6) / Jazz/Tap I (ages 6-8) Jazz/Tap II (ages 8-10) / Jazz/Tap III (ages 11-14)

Combo classes combine tap and jazz giving children a foundation in both of these styles. Students will learn basic steps and dance vocabulary in each discipline to create strong foundations, and apply those steps to various floor progressions and combinations. Classes are designed to take the students to the “next level” by buliding upon that foundation in a non-competitive, instruction-focused environment. Students will learn rhythm, timing, coordination and balance as they experience the joy of dance.

Jazz/Tap Combo for Homeschoolers (ages 4-6) Jazz/ Tap Combo for Homeschoolers (ages 6-10)

These hour and a half multi-level combo classes combine tap and jazz dance, giving children a foundation in both of these styles. Students will learn basic steps and dance vocabulary in each discipline to create strong foundations, and apply those steps to various floor progressions and combinations. Classes are designed to take the students to the “next level” by buliding upon that foundation in a non-competitive instruction-focused environment. Students will learn rhythm, timing, coordination and balance as they experience the joy of dance.

Jazz Int. Jazz III (ages 11-13) Jazz is a discipline of dance that has it’s roots in many other forms-ballet, modern, Broadway and more. Coordination, strength and dance vocabulary will be taught including isolations and age-appropriate dance movements.Students will use stretching and strengthening exercises as they develop different floor progressions and step combinations, and will also focus on leaps and turns. For adults, this is a great way to tone, improve your flexibility and stretch not only your body-but your MIND with memorization skills!! DANCE AND CHOREOGRAPHY: Participants will explore the many facets of Theatre Dance, which ranges from Fosse style to classic Jazz with some Lyrical and Tap thrown in! A thorough warm-up stressing technique will start each class, progressing to isolations, stretches and across the floor. In Choreography class, students will then ‘put it all together’ into song and dance numbers while learning the Choreographer’s craft. VOICE / MUSIC: Here’s where students get the chance to ‘stretch their chords!’ Proper vocal technique will be taught to create dynamic sound while learning to sing in a healthy way, learning to support, focus and project the voice. Students will learn great show tunes featuring their strengths-while working on improvement! SCRIPT WRITINGWe’re ‘putting it all together’ in this course, as students use their characters and songs to develop a cohesive story and script, which they will then perform for invited guests...with a little creative writing thrown in! BACKSTAGE ARTS Unlike many performance-only based Summer programs, T3x and T3x Jr. will also give students the opportunty to learn about what goes on BEHIND the scenes. Students will design and construct their own sets, props and costumes and learn stage make-up techniques....making this summer camp truly a TOTAL THEATRE EXPERIENCE!
