WHAT’S POPPIN’ SUNNIES!
Welcome back to The Yellow Pages! HAPPY NEW YEAR SUNNIES!! The term is slowly coming to an end with DCON coming up in April 2022 and I will be very sad when that time comes. I hope you enjoy my last few issues that follow, but until then, let’s get into this issue!
As you may have heard, Conclave 2022 is approaching very soon, and we have some very qualified candidates running to be our sunny new LTG! Christina is already approaching 9 months and the due date is on January 16th! Come out to Conclave 2022 to experience the birth of a new leader!
The end of this term also means that it is the end of my Key Club journey. As I finish up my college applications, it becomes clearer that I am truly going to miss Key Club. After making newsletters for the past 2 years, and working alongside my home club (shoutout to gretchen) and alongside Christina and the division, I’ve learned so much about myself and met a new ohana through Key Club. Thank you to everyone who has made my Key Club journey so memorable!
Please continue to read the previous few issues and look forward to the last few issues of the 2021-2022 term! I love you all so much!
SUN-cerely,
michelle kim

LETTER FROM YOUR LTG | 02
’Tis the Season, Suns,
And Merry Belated Christmas! Wow, can you believe that 2021 is already over? This year has been filled with so many ups and downs; but nonetheless, I’m filled with so much happiness of what this year had to offer! In addition to this year ending, the end of the term is approaching just as soon. Can you believe that there is ONLY 3 months of our term left? Time is truly going by fast and sooner than later, District Convention will be here! It truly makes me sad to see this term come to an end, but it only means that we need to do more for those who need us the most. That being said, Division 30 South, let’s make the most of the time we have left!
The end of this term means the beginning of a new one! My beloved suns, I’m more than proud to announce that Conclave 2022 is quickly approaching. This historical event where the Lieutenant Governor for the 2022-2023 term will be elected, will take place at Santa Ana Valley High School on January 16th!!! Mark your calendars for my due date because I’m officially giving birth in less than a month!
Although the term is coming to an end, I still have so much faith and HOPE for you, Division 30 South! I hope that you are spending the holidays with your loved ones and get the rest that you deserve! Thank you for everything that you’ve done for me this year! See you in 2022!
Much Luv,
christina nguyen

SHINING EVENTS keysgiving
“What are you grateful for” many people constantly asked me throughout November. I usually answered with basic things like friends, family, education, and more, but I think the right answer should have been “Key Club”. Sure it may be cheesy or cliche, however, I can’t deny the fact that Key Club is my favorite organization by far. This of course meant that I just had to attend Keysgiving!
Keysgiving took place on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 from 3-5 PM at Twila Reid Park. The social bonding started with an icebreaker where members shared some small talk with each other and rotated every few minutes. Members were able to meet new friends and deepen relationships with people they may have already known. Following this activity, members feasted on some delicious endeavours that some people brought for potluck and while doing so, there was a service project that went on throughout the day that members could do if they chose to. Mouth-watering nachos, energizing coffee jelly, and sweetening milk tea, Keysgiving had it all the yummies! Now, food wasn’t the only thing people fell in love with, but people fell in love with each other (oo lah lahhh). You heard right! Love was in the air this Keysgiving as members married each other at our very own marriage booth where Anna Nguyen and Natalie Sheng were officiants who got Key Club members married.
What a sweet way to end Keysgiving, right? Yes, indeed. I hope that those who attended Keysgiving had lots of fun and were able to make new connections and for those who didn’t, I hope to see you next year or at future events that Division 30 South hosts and if you’re still single, don’t freight! More marriage booths are yet to come.

two and a half w’s fall social
On Friday, November 25th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, Western, Loara, and Whitney Key Clubs held a social event called Two and a Half W’s Fall Social. The social was held at Twila Reid Park.
At the Two and a Half W’s Fall Social, members from Western, Loara, and Whitney Key Clubs gathered at Twila Reid Park to paint small plastic decorative pumpkins together. We set up at some of the park’s picnic tables. Once everyone got to the park, the pumpkins were passed out to everyone and paint and paintbrushes were provided.
I enjoyed this social event because it was on the last weekday of our Thanksgiving Break. I had spent the entire week stressing over my college applications, and it felt good to finally get out of my house for once during my break. Painting the pumpkins was very relaxing, especially since we were outside at the park. It was also nice to see my friends from school again.
This was a great social because we had not only two, but three different Key Clubs gathered at the same place. It was a good opportunity for members of each club to sit down together and socialize while painting pumpkins. It definitely created interconnectedness between Western, Loara, and Whitney. I would have recommended anyone come to this event if they enjoyed being outside, painting, and meeting new people.

Ever since my first Fall Rally in 2018, I knew every year after it’d be one of my favorite Key Club events. This year was just as fun as the years prior, and of course winning the spirit stick once again was such a rewarding feeling. My favorite part was seeing the smiles and joy on my club member’s faces throughout the day. I'm so glad they all had a great time at Six Flags.
Serving on the spirit committee this year and seeing all our hard work pay off during the spirit session was so amazing. I love watching back the videos of our cheers, I thought our division did a great job showing off our spirit. Starting and participating in random spirit battles around the park was also so fun, it’s such a great way to meet new people who share the same excitement and love for Key Club as me. All the people I met were so lovely and it was so fun going on rides and walking around with them.
Fall Rally was especially special and memorable for me this year because it’s my last one. I’m so happy and lucky to have spent it with everyone who attended this year, especially my 45 Cypress attendees! Fall Rally is truly such a unique experience and the atmosphere throughout the day can not really be found anywhere else. To everyone who will be going again next year and after, remember to just have fun! Fall Rally is the perfect day to just enjoy yourself and have a ton of fun with Key Clubbers just like you!

The words still boom in my head, “The winner of Fall Rally South Spirit Session #2 is…. DIVISION 30 SOUTH.” I knew that Fall Rally South would be a huge moment, but as I was there. I remember as I was in the stands, looking at the Dragons, Otters, Rhinos, and so many more divisions scream their hearts out, I was getting very nervous. The spirit stick was the only thing I could think of at this point, and I would do anything to get it and make my division proud. When I heard those words boom throughout the amphitheater, I nearly burst out of excitement and started jumping up and down screaming. As I reached to grab the spirit stick, I still couldn’t believe what I had in my hands. Like wow, the third time in a row.
At the beginning of this term, I was very nervous that this year we couldn’t do it and there were many people doubting our division, telling everyone we would lose the spirit stick. Despite this obstacle, I used the doubters as motivation to win the spirit stick and we ended proving the doubters wrong. The preparation of this moment to come true was very long and my spirit coordinators had to persevere through a lot of it. Long nights spent creating, editing, and polishing the cheers at Natalie’s house. Long meetings with Spirit Committee learning and teaching the cheers. Chaotic spirit nights and making the entire division squat 100 times to perfect Mirror Mirror on the Wall (if you know you know). So much preparation went into this moment that would create Key Club history. I could barely sleep the night before FRS because I was imagining all the possible scenarios that could happen the next day in my head.
| 10 On the day of Fall Rally South, I was overwhelmed with nervousness but also excitement. This was the moment we were all waiting for the entire term. Standing in line outside of the amphitheater, I was very nervous, and I recall Sania hyping us up for the anticipated event. Now, it all seems like a blur and the only thing I can remember is winning the spirit stick for the third time in a row. I consider this moment my Key Club moment as many do, but it feels great to have all our hard work create Key Club history and maintain a winning streak! This moment was so unreal, and I remember standing in shock for a little bit, but who got that spirit stick? AY WE GOT THAT SPIRIT STICK!!!

NOVEMBER DCM + spirit night 3 r e c a p
November DCM, also being tied to the third Spirit Night, occurred on Saturday, November 6th from 4pm to 7pm. Attendees from around the division came for the DCM, while also learning new cheers to prepare for Fall Rally.
The event was extremely fun and entertaining. Starting with the DCM, the LTG, Christina
Nguyen, went over old business, and also gave the attendees updates for upcoming events,
reminders, and club recognition. Our club had earned 2nd Shining Club of the month, and our very own member, Jayda Bellows, earned Member of the Month for the division!
After the DCM, the festivities of Spirit Night #3 began. Everyone was divided into groups according to which school they attended and were sent to follow the spirit chairs who would be leading our group. After being settled with our group, the spirit chairs began to teach us the Round 3 cheers that we would soon have to memorize for Fall Rally. These cheers had included Mahalo from Apollo: Turn it Up, Solar Hour, and Rise of the Suns. After learning these cheers individually in our groups, attendees were split into two teams and a Spirit Battle commenced! Beverly Nguyen, one of the division service project coordinator had stated, “November DCM was an exceptional opportunity to bond with other Key Clubs in Division 30 South as we were able to chant Fall Rally Cheers and listen to the presidents’ great club reports. I look forward to the next DCM as the theme is a Night Market where clubs will sell various types of foods to raise money for PTP!” Overall, November DCM x Spirit Night 3 was a very fruitful experience that allowed members to “get their spirit on” in preparation for Fall Rally.
To conclude, November DCM was a great opportunity for John F. Kennedy Key Club members to see the sunny and lively environment created by the Division 30 South Suns!

PRESIDENT’S PROFILE name: MARILYN NGUYEN
school: JFK KEY CLUB
class: 2022 Hello, my name is Marilyn Nguyen and for this term I hope to become more active in my community. One of the things I am most excited for is to work alongside with my club board to bring new experiences to our members!
- fun facts 1. I a m a c h o c o h o l i c 🍫 ( m y f a v o r i t e chocolate is Hershey's)
2. Some things I love to do are drawing, playing video games (especially league of legends), watch anime, read manga/ comics, and watch food documentaries with my friends
3. I love spending my free time with friends and family
what are your goals for the 2021-2022 term? For this term, the goals that I aim towards increasing a variety of events to join to assist in providing students with valuable adventures throughout their high school journey. Participating in service events, attending club or division meetings, even joining socials opens a new door of communi ca ti on wi th thei r community. Growing to become a leader like working together with others supporting to make the world a better place, they can also develop endeavor and leadership skills by serving their schools and communities.
why did you join key club? At the beginning of my sophomore year, Beverly recommended to our friend group about joining Key Club at club rush. At first, I was hesitant because my main priority of the time was to focus only on academics and sports but, hearing some of my friends talk about the October DCM was interesting. Attending my first Key Club event on November 1st, 2019, where we wrote thank you letters to teachers was a life-changing moment for me, as I began becoming expressive with my friend group and other members at the event. With my Key Club journey beginning with the moment of my friends encouraging me to join, I love the inclusiveness expressed through the community and people! :3
when was your key club moment?
My Key Club moment was when I attended the Thank you Cards Service Project, my first Key Club event. I could have said like a social or DCM but this very simple event open to all members to participate to show appreciation to teachers while watching a movie was life-changing to me. Key Club Week and the encouragement of my friends opened my mind to see another perspective of high school, another innovative way to become engaged and look forwards to the future. It may be strange as this event was only an hour, however, that time I spent with my friends and meeting other members from different grades was very fun and welcoming. I recommend attending to at most majority of the events hosted by your school club or division events as you never know what experiences you encounter and would not regret missing out on!

Through November and December, John F. Kennedy Key Club has had a steady and successful growth up to the present. With engagement in several activities increased such as our participation at service events, socials, and meetings, the club approaches another goal in serving our home, school, and community! Serving 113.5 service hours, hosting a Big Sun Little Sun Challenge, being the 2nd Shining Club of November, KiwanisGiving, Operation Christmas Child, and Bags of Hope, are moments that push us to strive to continue to serve our community! I would also love to recognize the club officer of November Isabella Pascual, member of November Jennifer Nguyen, division member of November Jayda Bellows, the officer of December Millard Truong, member of December Sol Park, and division Secretary of December Rohan Bhakta! I am very happy and proud to say I am grateful to you all for going beyond participating in opportunities to give back to our community by volunteering while communicating among other members!

My biggest pet peeve has to be the greasy crumbs that get stuck on the back of your hand when you reach into a chip bag. It is truly such a downer :/
Some of my biggest pet peeves are when people point or gesture at me, when an advertisement plays in the middle of a video, or when people are overly passiveaggressive.

Sofia Ysabel Gange | Fundraising Coordinator
i think my biggest pet peeves are interrupting, not taking responsibility, and chewing with mouths open.
I'm being a hypocrite but when people don't answer their texts. I completely understand if my texts are just memes. BUT, if I see that your status says active, you're not doing anything important, and it's a time-essential question, I'll be slightly mad but probably won't do anything >:(
Sania Usmani | Executive Assistant
Anika Kasula | Fundraising Coordinator
People who chew with their mouth open! It grosses me out LOL
My biggest pet peeve would probably be someone touching me or poking me repeatedly even after I make it clear that I am not too comfortable with that. Another pet peeve would be someone purposely making a lot of noise when I am trying to sleep or study.

my biggest pet peeve would be when people chew with their mouth open like. WHAT THAT IS SO NASTY.
My biggest pet peeve is when people try to answer my rhetorical questions. One of my friends really likes to do that and it makes me want to punch her in the face.

My biggest pet peeves is when someone leaving the door or drawers open. Also I couldn’t stand a messy environment.
my top three pet peeves would be dry texters, people who sneeze/cough without covering their mouth, and slow wifi tbh
Kaylin Chan | Historian
Saadhvi Narayanan | Spirit Gear Coordinator
Some of my biggest pet peeves include having neighbors who host noisy parties almost every night and blast loud music at 3 AM in the morning, people exhibiting general rudeness or lack of basic respect towards others, and those who yell at others in the middle of the street.
My biggest pet peeves are when people believe they are omniscient, which they convey through their words and actions.

One of my biggest pet peeves are SLOW WALKERS. I literally can't. I get so irritated like get out of my way bruh
My biggest pet peeve is when someone tells me to do something while I am already working on the task. For example, if I am working on homework and my mom tells me to work on my homework, I will feel annoyed and unmotivated to finish my tasks.
