01 | EDITOR'S NOTE

WHAT’S POPPIN’ SUNNIES! Welcome back to the TENTH issue of The Yellow Pages! It’s your News Editor Michelle back with a new and updated newsletter issue just for you! I hope 2022 has been treating you all well so far, and if not, hang in there! Only a few more months until Spring Break is here! Also a big congratulations to all of my fellow seniors who finished their college applications! December and January were two very busy months. We had our very successful Night Market DCM and Rose Float Decorating, and many individual clubs held various holiday socials and service events. I am so proud of Division 30 South for continuing to serve during their Winter Break and helping out our community for the festive season. Additionally, as of January 15th, 2022, we have a new baby sun for the 2022-2023 term. I am so beyond proud to say that our Lieutenant Governor-elect is… SANIA USMANI from my very own home club!! As the end of the term is just around the corner, this means that we should all be signing up for DCON 2022!! The District has been working hard to make sure that this event is in-person, so many of you, just like me, will be able to go to our first in-person DCON! Please continue to read my newsletters for the next upcoming months, as soon it will be my last one. Thank you for reading my newsletters thus far! <3

SUN-cerely,

mich e kim ell

Hello My Sunshines, And welcome to another issue of the Yellow Pages! I hope 2022 has been treating you all well so far and that you are off to a good start with your New Years Resolutions! As we close off January, I still can’t believe how fast time passes by. Conclave, Year-End Banquet, and DCON- it will all happen before we know it, so let’s make the most of the time that is left! Now that Conclave is over, I am more than elated to announce that your 2022-2023 Lieutenant Governor is Sania Usmani from Whitney Key Club!!! Make sure to congratulate our new baby sun! I’m beyond proud of how far she’s come this term and I can’t wait to see where she’ll take our division for the upcoming one! On top of that, this marks a year since I made a promising oath to Division 30 South! It’s been a whole year since I professed my dedication, passion, and love towards this organization at Conclave. And although this term has been filled with ups and downs, I have no regrets and no hesitation to serve you better than I already do. I know you all are working hard to finish this term strong! I commend you for all the hard work that you’ve done and I promise that it’ll all be worth it in the end <3 Much Luv,

SERVICE what is the spotlight on service program?

The CNH Spotlight on Service Program (SOSP) was created by the Service Projects Committee to promote District and International Initiatives as well as to encourage active participation with organizations and initiatives. Monthly guides include tips and ideas on how clubs can complete the monthly service initiatives. The program also gives clubs the opportunity to showcase their unique service projects that positively impact their home, school, and community. The Spotlight on Service Program would love to receive project submissions from the District to showcase projects from the previous month in the District Newsletter. SHINING EVENTS oxford + los al + katella + anaheim social

Socials are an integral part of key club to me. Key club is not just a club based on service; it is also a club that really encourages community and friendship building with its events, and socials are a great way to do so. Rather than usual DCM’s and service projects, socials are fun events for members to socialize with others, usually while doing crafts or some other activity. The social was split into four parts with all of them being linked. There was a station for creating origami with Katella’s president Nancy, a station for creating paper snowflakes with Oxford’s president Lydia, a station for creating thank you cards with Anaheim’s president April, and a photo scavenger hunt station with Los Alamitos’s president Maxime. My favorite station was the scavenger hunt because I had fun with EA Natalie justifying some cheating on some of the categories. Between stations, there was a game reminiscent of among us where people were placed in duos with some imposters in the crowd, and the imposters had to be rooted out before being partnered with everyone. All I will say about the among us game is that Joseph, the organizer, is…creative. This event also had a little bit of a new year's theme, which was just around the corner. There was even a poster so that people could write their resolutions. My resolution was to raise at least 300 dollars for PTP as president of Savanna Key Club next term 😎 😎 😎 .

rose float parade

Hello Suns! Today I wanted to talk about the Rose Float volunteering event! To begin with, we had to wake up quite early in order to get on the buses on time and to arrive at the destination with no mishaps. It however, was extremely cold because it was technically still “night-time” when I woke up. All students/volunteers met at Savanna High School, where our buses arrived to pick us up and drive us to the Rose Float warehouse. The students were split up into multiple groups and were each assigned different roles to partake. My group was in charge of the vials, where we had these tubes that needed to be filled with water. The work was pretty tough as the vials were difficult to open and the water was freezing cold, however we managed and the work got easier as time passed. More students came and I was able to make new friends with the other divisions and clubs, including the Frogs! When lunch came, the Kiwanis provided us with hot dogs and veggie burgers, as well as chips, fruit, and soda! The rain started right as our break was over and we decided to work inside the warehouse, where the floats were. I went around seeing where assistance was needed. I helped one of the floats attach burgundy flowers! The scaffolding was scary at first, considering they were about 10+ ft high in the air! After attaching the roses on one float, I transitioned to another station where I had helped apply glue onto silver leaves which are then applied onto the float! The overall experience was pretty rigorous and had some ups and downs, however it was a pretty cool thing to experience! I’m glad I was able to meet new people and see the behind the scenes of this whole event I’ve always seen on TV!

07 | ARTICLE: MYSTIC-TC RECAP

MYSTIC-TC R E C A P Hi Suns! By the time you’re reading this, we most likely will have elected our new Lieutenant Governor for the 2022-2023 term. So first off, congrats to whoever that may be! However, some Suns might be wondering: How can I become the next Lieutenant Governor? What does a Lieutenant Governor do? One of the best events to learn about running for Lieutenant Governor is during the annual Candidate Training Conference, which happened this past December at Saddleback High School. The event was on a Sunday, which is quite rare for a Key Club event since most of them are on Saturdays. It was a conference from 9am-4pm, which meant that you would be listening to people speak for 7 hours. That may seem like a long time, but if you’re really interested in learning about the roles and responsibilities of an LTG, it’s worth listening to. The event started with an icebreaker so everyone could get acquainted with each other. Each of us wrote down 3 facts about ourselves on a notecard, and once everyone finished, we were given a random note card and tasked with finding the person who wrote down the facts on your card. This was a nice icebreaker to do at CTC because there were people from Divisions 13 North, 13 South, and 19 North, and it was exciting to meet people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise. I made some friends in both 13N and 13S that day, which made CTC more memorable. After the icebreakers, the information sessions started. The first 3 sessions focused more on the LTG position itself; talking about how they fit within the puzzle that is Key Club, the challenges and rewards that an LTG may experience, and a general overview of the duties of an LTG. Following those three sessions was a breakout session with an LTG, where every attendee was able to talk to one of the 10 LTGs present to ask any questions about what was presented or gain insight on that LTG’s specific journey. It was interesting to hear about the different journeys each of the LTGs went on to get to where they currently are now, as each story was unique with different motivations and different paths.

JOSEPH LUKAS | OXFORD ACADEMY

| 08 Once the breakout sessions ended, lunch happened! There were lots of snacks to choose from, and there was pizza there as well. Lunch was so lively as people talked amongst their friends about what they learned and what their future plans were within Key Club. It was exciting to see so many potential LTG candidates in one place, and my excitement for Conclave grew. Speaking of Conclave, after we wrapped up lunch, the following session was about Conclave and all the preparation that goes into those several hours. Conclave is such an important event since that’s when the LTGs of the next term are elected, and I was amazed at how detailed everything had to be when it came to what each candidate was expected to present. Another breakout session started, where we were able to talk to different LTGs to get their perspective on their positions and ask for advice surrounding Conclave. The rest of the presentations were on how to communicate effectively and the classic Key Club ethics, which was followed by a final breakout session with our own LTGs. Talking to Christina about her journey and comparing them to the journeys of the other LTGs fascinated me a lot, and it was nice to talk to several LTGs directly instead of just sitting down and listening to presentations the whole day. The final part of CTC was practicing the Caucus questions, which was a bit nerve wracking as it’s sometimes uncomfortable to talk in front of a group of people when there’s nothing planned to say. However, many people were able to ace the questions asked of them by being through and direct, which was quite impressive to see. Even though I’m graduating this year, I was able to practice Caucus because I was curious to see what it was like. It was quite nerve wracking, but once I heard the question and formed an idea of what I wanted to say, the words just started flowing out of me. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it was, but it was still a little nerve wracking. The whole event finally wrapped up with a group picture. It was so cool to see the mix of colors since a lot of attendees wore their division merch. I especially liked the merch from Divisions 30 North and 4 West, but obviously we have the best merch 😎 . In conclusion, CTC was such a cool event to be at, and I learned so many things that I wouldn’t have known had I not gone. Even if you’re not interested in running for LTG, I still highly recommend going because it’s an experience that you probably won’t get anywhere else.

09 | DECEMBER DCM: NIGHT MARKET RECAP

DECEMBER DCM night market r e c a p

What’s good suns! On a moonlit December 18th 2021, Division 30 South had their last DCM of the year and first ever night market themed DCM in D30s history. The theme of this DCM was inspired by the 626 night market and every school in our division participated in this event to sell a variety of goodies. Anaheim sold tamales, Kennedy sold boba, Katella sold pocky, Los Alamitos sold ice cream, Oxford sold pancakes, Magnolia sold pasta, Savanna sold popcorn chicken, Western sold sweets (brownies and cookies), Cypress sold Vietnamese food (pho and egg rolls), and Whitney sold my absolute favorite, spam musubi. Servite High School made a rare appearance and sold churros. This DCM was a major success for everybody because a lot of booths sold out. I was sad that there was no more spam musubi or popcorn chicken. The food was so good that everyone wanted a piece! Proceeds earned from this fundraiser were gifted to the Pediatric Trauma Program, which is one of our favorite charities. I highly recommend everyone to support our fundraisers because not only are you getting yourself a yummy treat, but you’re also helping charities and non profit organizations. Good food for a good cause! The relaxed environment left lots of room for getting to know one another and talking to new people. What’s better than eating yummy food and making new friends? Shoutout to whoever was controlling the aux because I heard a lot of good tunes. I’m glad I got to talk to some of the members from Servite and I hope to see more of them and the rest of D30s at future events!

LOS ALAMITOS KEY CLUB PRESIDENT’S PROFILE name: MAXIME SEGUI school: LOS ALAMITOS KEY CLUB class: 2022 Hellooo Division 30 South!!! If you haven't heard by now, I am Maxime Segui and I proudly serve Los Alamitos as president. I am an upcoming senior so sadly this will be my last term in Key Club but that only motivates me to make this an OUTSTANDING ONE! I have full faith in everyone that we will triumph over any obstacle or hurdle thrown at us and that Division 30 South will rise above and beyond the expectations set as the shining division that we are! :D

- fun facts -

why did you join key club?

1. My fun facts include this being my second term as president (uwu) 2. Currently overcoming my fear of comp games in Valorant 3. Look out for my upcoming crocheting account ;)

what are your goals for the 2021-2022 term? Before I joined Los Al’s Key Club, there was a total of 9 members at club meetings with only my brother attending division events. I knew my potential in reviving my home club and took it a step further to create something to outlive my stay in high school. This required a stable foundation which called for activities for members to earn hours and resources to stay up-to-date. I also wanted to bring more members I serve to division events. I knew I would have to be present at most events to achieve this goal but it was definitely worth seeing the payoff.

I joined Key Club my freshman year because my older brother was President at the time and I wanted volunteer hours. I stayed because of the community and skills I found within this awesome organization. Key Club gave me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone to meet others who share similar passions as me such as serving our communities or fangirling over our favorite artists. But Key Club also taught me important life skills like communication, time management, and professionalism through my peers and the Kiwanis. Sure not the most revolutionary beginning, but I believe in trusting the process for the best outcome.

when was your key club moment?

Fall Rally South 2018. I was a freshman at the time. A total of 4 members attended from Los Al, me being one of them. My senior buddy and I went on one ride before our spirit session because the other rides broke down as we got there. I then lost her and start to panic because I couldn’t anyone I knew. I remember getting round up to join the line for our spirit session. I told the older members I didn’t know anyone there and was freaking out a little bit but they were really nice and calmed me down. Eventually, I found other people in my club before the rallying began. I only knew a total of 3 cheers but still screamed my lungs out as I try hiding my phone with the rest of the cheers. We got to round three and the district executives at the time were finalizing their scores. My brother tells me we’ve never won before and I stare in shock. Drumroll. Division 30 South’s first Fall Rally South win! Wow. But the real fun was in the spirit battles against other divisions. I remember following one of the spirit coordinators then and was in awe of her confidence and spirit leading this herd of suns to flawless spirit battle victories. I loved the energy, the vibes, and interactions between the other Key Clubbers; and that’s how I knew Key Club was the home for me.

LOS ALAMITOS KEY CLUB

snapshot

A lot of firsts for Los Alamitos in the past few months! We were able to fundraise for PTP at December DCM: Night Market, had a joint social with Anaheim, Katella, and Oxford Academy Key Clubs, and what I believe is a club record-breaking number of dues-paid members! We have been increasing the number of (virtual and in-person) service events for our members which has led to some of the highest hours we’ve seen these past few terms. Making resources more accessible and hyping up events has really benefited our club. For February, we’re looking at training our future executive board and preparing them for next term. We are also looking at helping Los Alamitos Kiwanis with their pancake breakfast. I’m very proud of what we have accomplished these past months and I look forward to closing out this term with a bang.

KEEP UP WITH LOS AL! CONTACT THE PRESIDENT!

I wouldn’t call this useless.. or a talent really😟 🧐 but I can untie the impossible knots my mom ties on the produce bags after we get back from the Asian supermarket.🥳

In seventh grade, our P.E. teacher had us learn how to juggle with tennis balls as our final exam and I still somewhat remember how to do it.

Helen Tran | Executive Assistant

Sofia Ysabel Gange | Fundraising Coordinator

the most useless talent i have is burping on command...

I'm (usually) able to remember the first time I met someone/ realized their existence. I'm so forgetful in remembering simple directions, but, somehow, I can remember my first interactions with a person. I wouldn't really call it a talent, but it can come in handy when reminiscing with someone.

Sania Usmani | Executive Assistant

Anika Kasula | Fundraising Coordinator

I can sleep at anytime, anywhere, under any circumstances. It truly does not benefit me at all LOL but I am such a heavy sleeper and I love taking naps!

I can wiggle my ears and raise my right eyebrow.

Beverly Nguyen | Service Projects Coordinator

Raquel Romero | Publicity Coordinator

The most useless talent that I have is that I can easily move my toes. They're unusually flexible.

The most useless talent I have might be that I could binge watch a series in a day or less. (Is this even a talent? I think it’s like a fun fact but we’ll leave it here anyways)

the most useless talent i have is being good at tower of h*ll (safekey) on roblox. WHY AM I SO GOOD AT PARKOUR and for what.. i'd rather be good at math smh

The most useless talent I have is imitating the sounds of animals. I can meow like a cat, bark like a dog, and neigh like a horse (I SWEAR I'm not a horsegirl). One time, I was barking at my friend's dog and having a really good conversation (one of the best).

Annie Le | Historian

The most useless talent I have is I could knock down or spill any water, drinks surrounded or near me. Yes, I am a clumsy person.

one useless talent is that i can always put my usb plugs in the right way in the first try

Saadhvi Narayanan | Spirit Gear Coordinator

The most useless talent I have is being able to touch my chin and forehead with my toes. I never actually use it, so I'm not quite sure how this would be useful. I suppose it was cool when I was in elementary school and used this flexibility to flex in front of my relatives, but I don't use this talent at all, nowadays (since I'm basically stuck in front of my computer screens all day)!

I make a typo in almost every sentence.

Tina Tran | Tech Editor

One of my useless talents is probably memorizing people's big threes really easily. (their sun moon and rising)

The most useless talents that I have are that I can pop my left thumb and I can make a water drop noise with my mouth :D
