DECEMBER EVENTS

LETTER FROM YOUR NEWS EDITOR Hey Suns! Time really does fly by! Can you believe that it is already December?! For you seniors out there, hope apps are going by well! Hope you guys are still continuing to strive to make a difference in our community, whether it be fundraising for a cause or signing up for volunteer events. It’s finally December, which also means that Christmas season is here! Let’s bring even more joy to our community by providing for families in need and volunteering to help make the world a better place! We only have a few months left of the term, and I cannot believe that we have made so many accomplishments throughout the term! Thanks to our amazing LTG, Ali, we already surpassed our goal of raising over $10,000 by Fall Rally South and we are on track for our service goal for DCON! Let’s keep fundraising and serving! Wishing you a warm winter and Christmas! Shining with service,

Kayla Kim

LETTER FROM YOUR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR What’s Poppin Division 30 South? Can you all BEE-lieve then we ONLY have 3 months left in this term? That’s only around 100 days to make as much of an impact on our community as possible! Time is truly ticking and sooner than later, District Convention will be knocking on your door! That is truly sad to process, but it is an evident reminder that we need to do more for those counting on us and we truly need to make more of the time we have left together; that means attending as much service events as you can so that we can reach our 33,000 service hours goal by DCON, helping out with your club’s fundraisers so that we can reach our PTP Goal of $20,000, and attending the Division Events that we will be hosting! Enough of the sad talk and let's talk about MY BIRTH. I am officially giving birth on Saturday, December 14th from 9AM - 1PM at Valley HS, meaning the NEW DIVISION 30 SOUTH LTG WILL BE ELECTED! The term is coming to an end, and that makes me blue, but Division 30 South, I have faith in you! Wishing you the merriest Holidays Season and I hope you get a lot of rest! Thank you for everything! L-O-V-E, I LOVE MY D-I-V! Sending you all a warm hug wherever you are!

Ali Al-Sal!m

service december’s theme spotlight on

PROVIDING BASIC NEEDS December is a time for taking final exams, finishing college applications, and fulfilling last minute resolutions. It’s also the time for giving gifts and giving back to your home, school, and community. While your schedule may be packed, remember to make time to give to those who are less fortunate. In California, Nevada, and Hawaii alone there are almost 541,000 children who will not get to spend the holidays in a home. The SOSP theme for December is “Providing Basic Needs” because the CNH District believes that Key Clubbers can make a difference by hosting events such as toy & clothing drives, volunteering at shelters and soup kitchens, or giving a family a great holiday memory. This December, help provide families with the basic needs to survive

PROJECT IDEA

Supply Drives

In line with the the theme of “Providing Basic Needs”, hosting a supply drive is a great to mobilize your club to make an impact in your community. From clothes, toys, canned goods, to hygenic supplies, there are many people in your community who could be in need of any of the supplies listed or more. Keep the needs of your community in mind when planning a supply drive.

Region Training Conference Vicky Vu | Western High School On Saturday, October 12, from 11AM to 5PM at Bolsa Grande High School, Western Key Club members attended the Region Training Conference (RTC). RTC is a region 3 event that gives members to opportunity to gain leadership skills and prepare them, if they want to run for an officer position. They also the opportunity to learn more about Key Club in general and how to make an impact in our community. At RTC, all seven divisions in region 3 attended together. October DCM was also held during RTC.

When members first arrived, they signed in at the division able and made their name tags. The event first began with a spirit battle session against the other division. We were served pizza and water for lunch. After we finished eating lunch, the October DCM was held. During the DCM we listened to past events, got updates from new events, and had the monthly recognition. After the DCM, all the members entered the gym to listen to the opening session. During the opening session, we were welcomed and the LTGs introduced the different workshops that session we had the chance to attend. There was a total of four sessions that were each around an hour long.

The workshops were held by the LTGs and guest speakers. One of the workshops I attended was the President workshop. At this workshop I learned the responsibilities and how to run the club well. The next workshop I went to was the member recognition and distinguished awards one. At this workshop I learned about different ways to recognize members and tips when applying for a distinguished award.

The third workshop I went to was dues payment. At this workshop I learned about the dates of every important deadlines. The last workshop I went to was a motivational speaking one. At this workshop I learned about my worth as a person and that I was enough, even if others didn’t think so. RTC ended with the closing session. RTC was a good experience getting to learn more about ways I could improve as an officer. I also enjoyed having time to socialize with other people in the region!

OC Japan Fair Louisiana Heker | Katella High School It was my first year volunteering at OC Japan Fair, and I had lots of fun. I volunteered for the Saturday morning shift, from 11:00 to 4:00. We got water and a Japanese yogurt-flavored soft drink before our shift started. I was there a little earlier, which gave me the chance to interact with other volunteers. I got to make new friends, learn about Japanese culture, and try lots of new things! I was assigned a security job, but instead of that me and some other Key Club volunteers took care of giving out free Pocky samples to the people who were entering the fair. Our job was to announce the free samples and to restock the Pocky as the visitors took the cute, small bags. After that part of our job was over, everyone was assigned to different posts where our help was needed. I went home because my shift was over, but some of my friends stayed for the second shift and helped with other cool jobs such as making boba and helping the media team. My day volunteering at OC Japan Fair was full of fun. I made new friends, tried really tasty food, and saw some of the cutest plushies and stuffed animals. I tried Takoyaki for the first time and absolutely loved it. I also entered the inside section of the fair and saw this little cute sticker store in which my friend got a small ducky picture. This and a lot more small details made the event an awesome thing to experience.
