Simulcast Wagering Keeneland has participated in intertrack wagering since 1988 and full-card simulcasting since 1994. With the opening of the Fall Meet on Oct. 8, 1988, Keeneland began sending its races to Turfway Park, Ellis Park and Bluegrass Downs. Dueling Grounds (now Kentucky Downs) was added in April 1990. Keeneland first served as a receiving track on Nov. 30, 1988, taking races from Turfway Park.
Intertrack wagering was held in the Sales Pavilion through the 1989 Ellis Park meeting. Simulcasting was held in the Grandstand from the combination Breeders’ Cup-Churchill Downs program on Nov. 4, 1989, until July 15, 2015, when Keeneland’s year-round simulcast operations moved to Red Mile in a partnership with the historic Standardbred track near downtown Lexington.
Red Mile offers Thoroughbred, harness and Quarter Horse simulcast wagering in one location. Keeneland continues to offer simulcast wagering during the track’s Spring and Fall race meets and annual Thoroughbred auctions (in limited areas) and for Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1).
