DECEMBER 2013

Wow, this year really has flown by quickly. Just last month I was enjoying a weekend at New York Speaking with members from Columbia University and Fordham and now finals are over and we are about to enter a new year. I want to take a minute to say thank you to all of you for being such a wonderful division, I am truly amazed by all the great work you have done in your communities. You should really all take a moment and reflect on all your wonderful achievements. Maybe you haven’t changed the world yet, but think about how your service has impacted so many individuals’ lives. This issue of Liberty Letters is meant to take a quick snapshot on some of the great deeds you have done in just the last two months alone. You have all put a lot of work into your clubs and you should be recognized for it. I sincerely hope you enjoy the holiday with your family and loved ones. See you next year!

Have a question, comment, or concern? Maybe you just want to say “hi.” Whatever the case, I am always available to you for anything you might need, so feel free to get in touch with me. *Note: I do not have a smart phone so if you email me it may take longer to get a response* Telephone: E-mail:

Hunter College at last year’s D- Con

D-Con is a chance to meet Circle K clubs from all around New York State. The theme is Nintendo, clearly that’s awesome. There are workshops to promote leadership development and other valuable information to take home to your club. There is an opportunity for you and your club to receive awards. Plus, our very own Hunter College will be the host club so we should all show our support!

District Convention awards are designed to recognize members and clubs for their accomplishments throughout the service year. Every club has done a tremendous amount of service and is unique in their execution of projects, which you should all be recognized for doing. Take the time to complete these applications so clubs from around New York can see your great work. All awards, aside from the Club Newsletter and Club Scrapbook award, are due by February 7, 2014.

ISSUE 3

Columbia University Columbia showed a lot of holiday spirit this month with a Santa Dash to support Typhoon Relief in the Philippines, Christmas caroling to patients at the Metropolitan Hospital, and letters to Santa to raise funds for the Make a Wish Foundation. Hunter College Hunter has kept up their activity too and is leading the division in fundraising. In November, they raised over $400 for Winter Wishes. They have also continued to volunteer at various soup kitchens in NYC, helped Kiwanis with their Holiday Auction, and volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House.

New York University NYU made their presence known at school by staying active in partnership with clubs on campus. They participated in their school Fall Fest, Seasons of Giving Stuff, and helped host a Senior (Citizen) Prom. Fordham University Fordham continued their regular service at the Jesuit Residence, as well as raising money to buy items for our troops, hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at a senior home, and sponsored 12 individuals through their Christmas tree sale for Winter Wishes.

Club:

Fordham University

These last two months, Fordham has had the highest service hours in the division, in addition to the highest number of members in attendance at New York Speaking. This club was also recognized at New York Speaking for having completing double the hours they had completed in the entire service year last year. Great work guys!
