Hard work goes with success”

Emily Haas Emily Haas will be an engineer. That’s what she’s wanted to do since middle school and Francis Tuttle’s Engineering Academy solidified those thoughts so she could “help solve people’s problems.” Emily has been involved in more than just attending classes—as a sophomore, she participated in the SkillsUSA student leadership program and earned a national gold medal for her robotic hand that grips when she flexes her bicep. This fits with her intention to pursue a degree and a career in biomedical engineering. She created her robotic hand device, “Patricia,” because she wanted to help people. She tells students who are thinking about coming to Francis Tuttle “Don’t be afraid of hard work. You’ll get so much more out of your experience, whatever you choose, and life is like that, too. Francis Tuttle has a family-like culture, with small classes, and you become a close knit bunch where everybody has similar interests, but you can still work on personal goals with a lot of support.” Emily commented that she has learned time management and good note-taking skills, both useful in college and in business. She also likes (about the Engineering Academy) that “it gives you an overview of all things engineering, so you can explore areas that you might want to do and find out what you don’t want. Opportunity is here for you, and it gives you a built-in network of people working on similar things.”

Students are treated like professional employees”

Sam Kem Even though Sam Kem has three older brothers who attended Francis Tuttle programs, he has learned and been involved in much more than he anticipated when he started the Marketing program. He had always been comfortable talking to people, but is learning to use that skill and how to develop a business and promote it to make a profit. “After I toured and spoke with others about Francis Tuttle, I knew it was for me. Students have a lot of independence and freedom, but the teachers have high expectations for you and make you want to be successful! Everyone is so supportive, from all of the teachers and the staff. They help you in whatever you would like to do and you’re treated like an adult, more like an employee than a high school student. It’s a really great environment to learn!” Long term, Sam looks forward to growing the family business, perhaps also working in advertising or marketing. “I love it here! Everybody should take advantage of this opportunity!”
