THE NEW ROBOT By J. Samson

“Professor Arthur is releasing a new line of robots,” Siri stated with a monotone voice. “Mum are we going to get a new robot?” questioned Billie. She walked in from the kitchen wiping her moist hands with a grubby rag. “Well the government will make us pay money if we don’t,” answered his mother. The white walls were weak and thin as the house was near to its end. Coming up to the lumpy couch she walked in front of the TV making creaky sounds in the old wooden floor. His mother killed the power. “That’s enough,” she said. Massive winds pushed the door wide open. A droid with 4 metal propellers was descending on to the cement pit, whilst carrying a box. “Your new robot has now arrived, thank you,” stated the driod “MUM, the new robot is here,” shouted Billie “OK! I’ll be right there, just press the red button on the robot,” responded mum. Billie came up to the long brown object. He read the warning sign.

He lifted the big heavy cover and there it was, standing with no power. The robot was standing well above Billie’s head. The lustrous piece of metal was waiting for a fingerprint to collide with his surface to bring him purpose into this world. He got frightened and stepped back. He walked up to the human created machine with a slow and unsteady pace. He gulped. The robot’s dehumanised eyes glared at Billie’s. The button was pressed. “Hi, I am robot model 3.65 and I am here to assist your living, to create a more sustainable society and environment,” said the robot. Billie ran with all the speed his legs could give him, hiding behind the couch showing only his eyes. “Stay back!” he warned him, “I heard stories that you’re planning to kill me,” “HI. I am robot model 3.65 and I am here to assist your living, to create a more sustainable society and environment,” repeated the robot. Billie exhaled with relief. He stood back up and clicked buttons on the left arm. The robot vibrated. Loud sirens begun shouting into Billies ears. “Mum!!!! Somethings happening!” Billie screamed. The robot began to head towards Billie. “I must take you now,” the robot said the same thing over and over again. Billie was walking backwards, his palms facing the robot, sweat dripping down his forehead, his eyes rolled back and forth as if he was watching a ping pong game. Mum stepped into the living room and ran in front of her son immediately, tried to create a barrier of safety.

“You have the right to step aside,” said the robot. Mum disagreed shaking her head. “In command of the government you have the right to step aside,” said the robot again. Mum grabbed the lamp pointing it to the robot getting ready to chuck it. The robot took another step coming closer. She chucked it to the depraved robot. Yet the object did nothing but create a sound. The robot leaned in and pushed her aside. “MUM!!” screamed the chid. “BILLIE its ok don’t worry,” cried his mum. Tears rushing down her cheeks with her open palms pressed together, hoping they don’t step foot out the living room “Please, the government doesn’t need to do this,” her tears continued pouring. The robot held onto her son with his metals fingers wrapped around his two small wrists. The robot walked away from his mother heading towards the door. “MUM!!” he screamed and yelled and tried to escape the evil arms. “No BILLIE!!” mum shouted in agony still releasing her tears. She fell onto her knees as her son exited her home, leaving his family. The door slammed and the surface shook. The door shut. Mum hurried to the phone. She hastily dialled numbers. “Hello, hello? Is this the government? You can’t do this, taking away our children will do nothing, they WONT learn better! Please. He’s the only one I have. No!” she said. She took her hand and wiped her tears away. She stopped. Turned her head. Straightened her back, and widen her eyes. A light appeared in her eyes. “Project 21, I will now complete the government orders,” she says.
