BLUE EYES

The Girl With The Blue Eyes

Maddie I'm heading towards the main building, where the government empire stands. Around me guards move briskly. Fake contacts in my eyes allow me to slip around without detection, well unless people look too closely. Technology at East cliff, our rebel camp, is pretty basic. However, the rest of the world are brainless robots, the government control 24/7, with their high tech contacts, society are made to believe they are the new age of technology. I'm Maddie, 18 and a rebel. You know, the kind that goes up against the government. My squad leader obliviously thought, just because I'm so good at playing pranks and breaking all the rules back at camp that I would be great for this mission. Ugh. Which is to collect data from the government facility. “You need a pass to enter, you know”. Great, a brainless guard’s found me. “Sorry I was daydreaming”. A smirk? Does he find me funny? “My name’s Conner. What are you doing?” “I'm Maddie”.

Oh shoot, I wasn't supposed to interact with anyone, let alone tell them my name! “And, I'm just looking for info on an e-book”. I’ll just make myself seem boring then maybe he’ll leave.

Still smiling, he leads me into the building which now I realise is a new pristine library. I was just about to tell Conner thanks when he sat beside me. I looked at him and he said almost defensively, “What? Outside you looked totally lost so I thought you needed a knight in shining armour to come to your rescue”. I rolled my eyes. Who does this guy think he is? "What's the e-book?" Ugh I guess I have to play along with my lie. What’s a good e-book? Oh I know, The Fallen Angel. "Is that the e-book?" "Yep", I answer. Playing along seemed easy. 20 mins passes. Never, the thought crossed his mind that I don't belong here. “What’s your favourite colour?” “Ah, well I don’t have one,” I said in a small voice, as if not having a favourite colour was a crime. “How do you not have a favourite colour? Everyone has one, come on someone like you, green? Blue?

Actually I think you would look good in blue.” “Ah, no I really don’t think that’s a good idea,” I speak hastily. “Why? Don’t you like blue?” he asks uncertainly. No, I just can’t let him see my ID!! He leads me out towards the dress shop, but stops me half way. “Wait Maddie, when I look into your eyes… I don’t know they seem different”. He looked at my arm. Shoot he saw it! “Oh look at the time, I need to get back to home for dinner”. I started running towards the town houses.

Conner Ugh, I can’t get Maddie out of my head, her luscious, dirty blonde hair falling just below the shoulder blades, her strange blue eyes, blue instead of the standard purple, and her… huh. “Conner, you need to find this Maddie and kill her, I scanned her ID and confirmed she’s a rebel,” Someone interrupted my thoughts.

“Who are you? I'm not going to kill anyone. Let alone her, the whole point I came to be a guard was to protect, not kill.” “Ok, then, I'm sergeant Drone, its best if you don’t resist.” A pulling sensation made me stand. It was as if a war was going on inside my head, my mind saying no but my body says yes. I blink. Surely this is a dream. It can’t be real. In an ally way, Maddie, an innocent girl, lying dead at my feet. I know it’s by my hand because I see the blood dripping from the gun barrel, yet it wasn't my mind… Ugh, the contacts! No wonder Maddie had blue eyes, she didn't have the mind control. I take out the contacts, screw guarding. I'm done. Scanning her ID seems immoral, but how else am I going to find her rebel base. Life must be easier there.
