Sport at Kent has changed a great deal over the last 50 years and with membership, footfall and usage at an all time high, developing our offer is more important than ever. The Kent Sport activity timetable is forever expanding. It offers opportunities to participate in intramural tournaments or relax and enjoy 30-minute sessions with the Let's Play programme. As well as all the exciting fitness and dance classes there are many opportunities to enjoy team sports at Kent. You can also hone your skills with coaching sessions and officiating courses. Kent Sport is keen to encourage everyone to get active and take part in sport with leagues and tournaments. Easter Academy
Five-day sports academy for children from seven to 14 years old. Club or county level experience is mandatory for participation.
EasterZone (see SummerZone for information) Run alongside the Easter Academy targeting participation rather than elite-level children.
FitnessFest (spring term)
In partnership with the University's Worldfest celebration, join the fitness team and special guest instructors for a unique medley of master classes, powered by Kent Tech enhanced music production and staging.
Xercise Factor (spring term)
A six-week fitness and exercise programme to change participants' health and lifestyle habits. Any Kent Sport member can apply to be an Xercise Factor competitor. Each participant is mentored by a member of the fitness team and, following an initial assessment, are then
supported through a strict regime in order to achieve their goals.
Fit 4 the Beach (summer term)
Fit 4 the Beach challenges Kent Sport members to complete a gruelling sixweek tailored beach body programme in the fitness suite, with one-to-one guidance and support. This is an annual summer term promotion and is open to all Kent Sport members.
SummerZone (summer vacation)
SummerZone is a series of two weeklong summer sports camps for five to 14 year olds, run by double Olympian Mel Clewlow. The children participate in sports, fun and learning. The camp is packed with football, hockey, kwik cricket, rugby and tennis and is led by qualified coaches. SummerZone 2016 is from Monday 8 to Friday 12 August and Monday 15 to Friday 19 August, from 9am to 3pm.
The Ultimate Karate Fighters Boot Camp 29 to 31 July 2016 For experienced karate athletes. The boot camp is led by nine times World and European Champion and Kent alumnus Wayne Otto OBE, Britain's most successful karate athlete, along with several specialist trainers. The camp teaches fitness, conditioning, attacking, defensive techniques and more.

The highly qualified physiotherapists, sports massage therapists and health and fitness team can enhance your wellbeing and sporting performance. Open to students, staff, alumni and the wider community. Kent Sport has invested significantly in the facilities within the Sports Centre, including adding a physiotherapy clinic situated within the state of the art fitness suite. You can simply step out of the private bays and into the fitness suite, enabling the clinic to provide a seamless transition from injury to return to sport.

Our experienced and fully qualified physiotherapy and sports massage staff are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), Health Professionals Council (HPC) and The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sport and Exercise Medicine (ACPSEM). There are more than 50 student sports clubs at Kent offering something for everyone. Whatever your sport, or even if you have never played, you will have the opportunity to try sport and play socially or competitively. Inter College Cup
The Inter College Cup is a multi-event sports competition for students at the University of Kent, and is played between the colleges that make up the Canterbury campus. Despite the natural competitive element that comes with any tournament, the general ethos is one of involvement and participation, with every team welcoming players of all abilities. The sports are: Badminton (mixed sex) Played in a singles and mixed doubles format. Basketball (men's) Now entering a seventh season, the Inter College Basketball League has become a regular addition on the intramural calendar. Fixtures are played on alternate Sundays between 1pm and 5pm in the main hall at the Sports Centre. Chumash Chumash is an indoor 3x3 version of lacrosse. Cricket Fast-paced indoor cricket action for all involved. Football (men's) The Inter College Football League is the oldest intramural competition on campus and consists of two teams from Darwin, Eliot, Keynes, Rutherford, Turing, Medway and a postgraduate team from Virginia Woolf.
Netball Inter College netball involves participants competing in a shorter length version of the game. Rowing Individual time trials using the indoor rowing machines at the Sports Centre's fitness suite. This event is open to both men and women. Rugby 7's In term two a mixed touch rugby league will begin for the first time. Swimming Termly events will take place at the King's Recreation Centre. Tennis (mixed sex) Played in a singles and mixed doubles format. Intramural sports
Futsal league Futsal is a variant of football played indoors on a smaller pitch, with a smaller ball and between two teams of five players. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces. Kent Amateur Football League (KAFL) KAFL was set up initially by students with a focus on inclusion and increased participation in 11-a-side football on campus. League matches are played every Saturday and/or Sunday. Mixed dodgeball league Mixed dodgeball has a maximum number of six players per team on

court at any one time. The main objective of each team is to eliminate all members of the opposing team. Mixed rounders Played once a year in the summer term, this school favourite involves mixed-sex teams and is open to all students at the University of Kent. Racket leagues and ladders Players of all standards have the opportunity to play other participants at their own convenience. Racket leagues and ladders are available in badminton, squash and tennis. Free to Gold and Silver members, Bronze members pay per activity.
SoccerZone SoccerZone is the campus based five-a-side football competition. Five leagues of eight teams are run every Friday between 12pm to 5pm at our outdoor facilities. University sports scholarships The University of Kent is committed to delivering sporting excellence and is proud to offer scholarships to students with outstanding sporting ability. Kent Sport will work with those awarded a scholarship on a programme of general fitness, training and physiotherapy support in association with their formal training and development. University general sports scholarships The University has a fund which supports numerous awards between £300 and £5,000. You must demonstrate a high level of performance in, and a commitment to, your sport. You must have played at county level or equivalent and be aspiring to national level. Scholarships are normally only allocated to students competing in major national sports which are well represented at the University in the BUCS leagues.

The criteria are for the recipient to be a 1st team player at Canterbury Rugby Club and play for the University in the BUCS tournament. The selection for the scholarship is made by Canterbury Rugby Club. Hockey scholarships The University offers hockey scholarships of up to £2,000 in partnership with Canterbury Ladies’ Hockey Club, Canterbury Mens' Hockey Club, Holcombe Hockey Club, Old Bordenians Hockey Club and Maidstone Hockey Club. You must be able to represent both the University and one of the clubs’ 1st teams.
The David James Boxing Scholarship This scholarship is awarded in memory of former Director of Sport and National boxing coach, the late David James. It is designed to support selected boxers to ensure they achieve their potential. In partnership with John Horton, the University offers a scholarship of £300 to £2,000 per year.

The J&K Huntley Scholarship (Cricket) This scholarship is worth up to £2,500 per year and is offered in partnership with Kent County Cricket Club. University of Kent alumni have the opportunity to continue their connection with the Canterbury campus and enjoyment of the wide range of sports and fitness activities that Kent Sport has to offer. Even if not local to the area, alumni can still join in with particular sporting events such as the annual 'Then vs Now' weekend and the Kent Alumni Football Reunion. Alumni members enjoy unlimited visits for an exciting range of fitness and dance classes, programmes and activities. During student vacation periods, when the sports facilities are quieter, Kent Sport offers special discounts on shortterm memberships. This is a fantastic opportunity to try the facilities with minimum commitment. Look out for these offers during vacation periods.
Kent Sport annual 'Then vs Now' weekend
This event has run since 2012, and was previously played between current and alumni Inter College football teams in a five-a-side format. More recently hockey, lacrosse and netball have been introduced to the weekend. For more details email sportsdevelopment@kent.ac.uk

Kent Sport public members enjoy unlimited visits for an exciting range of fitness and dance classes,

programmes and sports. You can benefit from the fitness suite and book courts, halls and pitches for your activities. In addition, public members can receive sports coaching if you would like to try something new or enhance your skills. The Kent Sport facilities are open throughout the year for use by students, staff members, alumni and the community. Gold membership offers access to the fitness suite throughout our opening hours. Silver membership offers access to the fitness suite weekdays between 7am to 9am and 2pm to 4pm, Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays 10am to 12pm.

Do I need to activate my membership card before I can use the facilities? No.
What happens if I forget my membership card?
We operate a three strikes policy. The fourth time that you forget your membership card you will be refused entry.
If I am a member of a student club do I have to join Kent Sport as well? If your club uses Kent Sport facilities then yes, membership is required.
Do I need an orientation before I can use the facilities?
Yes, you will need to complete a Kent Sport orientation, which incorporates your fitness suite induction, before using the facilities and these are bookable at reception.
Do you have personal trainers in the fitness suite? Our fully qualified fitness staff are on hand to offer advice, programmes and consultations to meet your requirements, including personal training.
Can I book a fitness consultation?
Yes, we offer fitness and nutrition advice and guidance. Members can book an initial fitness consultation at reception. Consultations are with a member of the fitness team to determine an exercise path. For prices see kent.ac.uk/sports/healthandfitness or ask at the Kent Sport reception.
Who can access the Kent Sport Physiotherapy Clinic?
The clinic is open to students, staff and the wider community. Please refer to page 15 for more information.
Do I need to book into the studio classes?
Can I bring a guest?
How far in advance can I book courts, classes and other facilities?
Are rackets, balls and other sports equipment available for hire?
Classes do not have to be booked in advance but it is advisable as they are very popular and space is limited.
Gold and Silver members can book up to seven days in advance via our online service. Bronze members can book three days in advance. Book at reception or using the online booking system at kentsport.kent.ac.uk/horizons
Do I need to book a court or pitch? Yes. These can be booked via reception in person, or by calling 01227 823 623 / 827 223. Gold and Silver members can also book online.
What should I do if I cannot attend a class that I have booked?
If you are unable to attend a class, and you booked by phone, at the kiosk or in person, you must cancel your booking by emailing sportstudio@kent.ac.uk no later than 30 minutes prior to the class start time. Online bookings can be cancelled online by the member that made the booking.
What happens if I do not attend or cancel a class booking?
Guests are welcome – a free Bronze membership will be offered. The guest then simply pays for the activity they wish to attend.
Kent Sport membership includes use of rackets, basketballs, netballs and footballs without additional charge. Items such as shuttlecocks, table tennis, squash and tennis balls can be purchased at reception. See poster in reception for prices.
What parking is available at Kent Sport?
Kent Sport public members can use the visitor parking behind the Sports Centre or at The Pavilion and claim a refund from reception. Kent Sport staff and student members can use their usual campus parking permit.
Do you have a swimming pool?
No, but there are pools within a ten-minute walk of the University. Kent Sport intends to develop a swimming pool in the future. If you would like to support this venture, please visit kent.ac.uk/sports/p100
Who can apply for a sports scholarship?
Sports scholarships of between ÂŁ300 to ÂŁ5,000 are available to students who are elite sportsmen and women from any sport who compete (at least) at county level or equivalent. Students must commit to representing the University of Kent in BUCS competitions at the highest level.
What student sports clubs are available?
Student clubs are run by Team Kent, part of Kent Union. A list of clubs is available online at kent.ac.uk/sports
You may be fined for non-attendance and your membership account may be limited until outstanding fines are paid. Spot attendance checks are conducted periodically for all classes.
