Welcome to Kent Sport You may be a new first year student, an 'old hand' PhD student who's been here for years, or a member of staff who's been here seemingly forever, but whoever you are you are very welcome to Kent Sport. Our role is simple; to create an environment in which anyone who wishes to play sport, get fit, be healthy, have fun or a combination of each of those things, can do safely, securely and in the best facilities possible. The best job in the world is having the opportunity to help improve and sometimes change people's lives for the better, and seeing the difference this makes is a special privilege and one we do not take lightly. You have chosen to come to Kent and you have made a very good choice. We sincerely hope you will make the most of every opportunity you have. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes by an exceptional team of staff to enable you to make the most of your time with us, but don't take our word for it, experience it for yourself. The best compliments we receive are when students leave, tell others that Kent is the place to go, and that Kent Sport is a superb environment in which everyone can thrive in their chosen sport or activity.
Your Senior Management team Graham Holmes Director of Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Former RAF Physical Training Instructor, RAF Aircrew, private squash club owner and freelancing sports polymath. Graham is rated as an outstanding all-rounder, specialising in racket sports. His love of sport has seen him complete endurance events including 24-hour and 36-hour non-stop sports challenges, and a two day 250km mountain bike in the Central Highland of Kenya, the latter on behalf of the charity Seeds for Africa, of which he was Chairman at the time. Since coming to Kent Graham has put all his experience into a relentless drive to improve the University sports facilities and services, and has been responsible for major changes to the Kent Sport offer. This drive shows no evidence of slowing down, with the 3GX pitch recently completed, the new Cycle Hub (at time of writing) about to be completed, plans to add to the portfolio with improvements to the tennis centre, and a long term plan to bring the much needed swimming pool to the Canterbury campus.
