A Note From Our KSUIF President by Buddy Candela

Dear KSUIF members, Things have been pretty busy for us the past couple weeks! We recently screened our feature film Unlucky for a test audience for the first time and were met with an overwhelmingly positive response! Thanks for all those who came out to support!

There will be another test screening in the near future. This version of the film is another rough cut, but it will be a much more refined version of the previous one! Tomorrow we have our screening of Hell at Heathridge just in time for the Halloween season! It’s going to be a great time, and I hope all of you can make it! Speaking of Halloween, our next big meeting will feature a costume contest! Dress up in your best costume and come have some fun with us! KSUIF is still looking for more projects to do! We have just redesigned our project proposals, so if you are interested in creating a project with us please send us an email! Thanks everyone! Have a great Halloween and stay safe!

Movie Recommendation of the Week: The Conjuring By Fred Beery

Music Video: “Emperor’s New Clothes” by Panic! At The Disco

By Buddy Candela

The Conjuring’s iconic shot caked in symbolism.

The Conjuring is one of the more truly scary

movies in recent years. It follows a real life case file of Paranormal Investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Perron family moves into a new house and start to experience some very odd things about it. Once noticed, they become terrified and call on the Warrens to help them find out if there really are ghosts. The storyline follows a basic horror movie formula that has been replaced in recant years by shaky cams and torture gore. This old-school horror formula works well with this movie, though. Director, James Wan, has built a reputation in the horror genre with movies like Saw and Insidious. He knows the genre well and creates a very creepy and suspenseful atmosphere. His decision to set this in the 70’s was smart. The old look of the wardrobe to the vehicles made the story feel more convincing. The pacing made sure to scare you, then calm you down just to scare you again. Scenic and wide shots were excellently used a lot to create a sense of vulnerability for the characters. The effects in this movie were mostly practical and really effective. Actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga deserve a lot of recognition for their portrayal of paranormal experts, the Warrens. Their performances had viewers believing these characters were just as much in danger as everyone else. The Perron family were all incredible as well. You really empathize with the whole family and their problems. The Conjuring is a horror masterpiece that gives viewers a scare they can take with them long after the movie is done. This movie will have you pulling blankets over your head.

A still of Urie’s demonic transformation.

Panic! At The Disco’s “Emperor’s New Clothes” is a supurb spooktacular, showcasing stunning special effects and stellar singing. In the second official video from their upcoming album “Death of a Bachelor,” Panic brings the heat with this splendid track. Not only is this the best song they’ve released this year, but is also one of their best music videos to date! “Emperor’s New Clothes” features our bandleader Brendon Urie plummeting into the bowels of hell, after nearly escaping death in the “This is Gospel” video. Next thing we know, he finds himself transforming into the devil. A bizarre concept, but what have we come to expect from Brendon? He’s a strange dude. The special effects are definitely a showstopper, but it doesn’t distract from the music. If anything, they compliment each other perfectly. It’s remarkable that such great special effects are in a Panic! At the Disco video, but are lacking in most new horror films. You’ve seen the new Paranormal Activity trailer, right? Check out the video at the link below! It’s perfect to set the mood for Halloween!
