Featured Article of the Month: D-CON 2016 As the seconds ticked down, Team Texas answered three more questions correctly! The crowd was counting down “5… 4… 3… 2… 1… 0!” Team Texas had won the 67th Annual TexasOklahoma Quiz Bowl 170-80! Four of our officers, Melissa Wang (Secretary), Macy Shult (Secretary), Grace Zhou (Treasurer), and Keaton Hippler (Editor), attended the TexasOklahoma District Convention this weekend in downtown Dallas. Our students attended forums on different topics to learn how to better serve you as the members and our club as a whole. The officers have many great ideas for the upcoming year that include working with Children’s Miracle Network, working with homeless people in the area, fun contests within our club, and much more! D-CON is full of great opportunities to meet new people, learn new things, play fun games, and compete in great competitions either by yourself, or we can prepare items as a club to be submitted to be judged for

district awards! D-CON is also a place where we decide on serious matters, such as: electing the new district board members, and changes to the district by-laws**. Each school is required to send two members to represent their club at the House of Delegates. The House of Delegates is where those representatives vote on whether the proposed changes to the by-laws should be accepted or if the bylaws should be left the same. The representatives also vote on who the new District Executive Board should be, after first coming to a decision with the members of their club in attendance, of course. Before the House of Delegates takes place, you have an opportunity to hear the candidates running for the district board give their speeches. D-CON is an amazing experience, and you get to learn lots of new things, and meet lots of new people! I hope you enjoy the many ideas that the officers will be bringing to you this year, and we look forward to serving you further!

Did you Know? -There are over 18,500 members in the TexasOklahoma District! -Key Club has over 270,000 members worldwide! That’s HUGE! -This was the 67th annual District Convention! -Key Club has over 5,300 clubs all over the world!

**By-laws- the by-laws are the standards by which Key Club is founded on, and are the “rules” for all contest, and requirements of how our clubs operate.

If you would like to earn hours, write a 400+ word article and include at least 1 picture on one of the following prompts: For every article submitted (Limit= 1 article per prompt per person) you will receive 30 minutes credit. If it selected to be featured in our local newsletter, you will receive an additional 30 minutes credit. If your article is featured in the district newsletter, you will receive an additional 30 minutes credit. (This is a monthly opportunity. Remember to look here for next month’s article prompts.) **Articles must be submitted to me by the 28th of every month! (Send to keaton.hippler.324@k12.friscoisd.org) Prompts: -How do you plan to carry the Key Club mission (Caring… our way of life!) with you on your summer adventures? -Share a favorite childhood summer memory. Students created spring cards for elderly of our community who are clients of Meals on Wheels. The Meals on Wheels organization provides one hot meal per day to senior citizens who might not otherwise have access to a healthy meal. Our cards were delivered with meals by Meals on Wheels volunteers.
