BLUE ZEBRA INSURANCE (BZI) is a di erent breed in insurance. A modern insurtech, BZI strives to support brokers with e cient and userfriendly technology, built on the foundation of our partnership mindset. We believe in creating di erentiation from our competitors whilst improving the e ciency and e ectiveness of our broker partners. This is achieved by improving the broker experience – delivering quotes in less than one minute and minimising referrals – and engaging brokers to constantly improve our system, products and pricing to assist us in competing in the market. Our use of Big Data to obtain as much up-to-date underwriting information as possible is specifi cally designed to reduce brokers’ workload.

We passionately believe in the role of the advice model in insurance. We have reached our fi rst anniversary with Youi as their vehicle to the broker market for personal lines and SME insurance. Whilst this has created a change to our underwriting appetite and subsequent recalibration of our portfolio, it is now showing strong signs of growth and augers well for our long-term relationships. We have recently launched a commercial suite of products with both Youi and Lloyd’s capacity, and we continue to expand the industries in our target market.

BZI now o ers our market-leading Blue Leopard system as a Platform as a Service (PaaS) for insurance agencies and insurers. This allows our customers to cost-e ectively digitise and automate their processes so they can e ciently deliver multiple products and services. This comes at a time when e ective and e cient compliance, with ever-changing regulatory and information security requirements, can be extremely expensive and time-consuming. Blue Leopard has been constructed by leveraging deep insurance experience in conjunction with modern technology practices. There are no legacy issues in Blue Leopard, which enables scalability whilst providing e cient delivery to the intermediary market, allowing underwriters to focus on their core value propositions.

JAMES FRANKENFELD is an extremely knowledgeable insurance professional with more than 35 years of experience. He was one of the earliest members of the Blue Zebra team, joining as the SA/NT/WA regional manager after holding state manger roles with two of the largest Australian insurers. He has developed deep, long-term relationships, having always worked with the broker market.

Frankenfeld is passionate about the value of the advice model and the role of brokers in delivering appropriate products and excellent service. This is achieved by ensuring Blue Zebra o ers options that compete with both traditional intermediated insurers and the direct market, particularly in the personal lines and SME markets. Frankenfeld has extensive experience with large insurance companies, including claims and underwriting, and he understands Blue Zebra processes. He can actively help brokers with day-to-day queries, as well as align Blue Zebra with their strategic direction.

The team at Blue Zebra is an extremely experienced, enthusiastic and forwardthinking ‘dazzle’ (the collective name for a group of zebras). Our mantra for brokers is that “the partners of today may not be the partners of tomorrow”, and we believe in adapting and changing to help brokers compete and succeed in the future.

Frankenfeld recently won BDM/ Underwriting Professional of the Year at the NT Insurance Industry Awards, a richly deserved prize that refl ects his ongoing support of broadening Blue Zebra’s appetite in NT and giving brokers alternative options to support their growth.
