‘Pride of The Community’

Unicorn Athletic JFC History…. Unicorn Athletic were formed in 1977 and have predominately been running as a Junior football club for the past 38 years having many successes up to youth football.

In the last few seasons the club has expanded in to adult football seeing the adult’s side coming runners-up 2 years on the bounce in the Broadheath Central Cup, being beat in extra time in both finals and finishing 3rd in the Altrincham & District League before we made the step up to The Hallmark Security Cheshire League. The move to the Cheshire League saw a move in stadia for Unicorn. Smiths Field was the home for the 1st XI but now first team games are played at Valley Road stadium as we look to work ourselves up the non-league pyramid. The club has over 400 players and 40+ coaches with many teams and success in the junior and youth squads.

DAVE POTTER

Welcome to Valley Road for today’s home game against AFC Macclesfield. Thank you again for your continued support over this season.

A tough game in store with the league leaders making the trip over to Flixton today and we know it’ll be tough to get anything out of the game but know it’s not out of our reach. Our main problem this season, especially so in recent week is the injuries to the squad. We are carrying 14 injuries and it’s limiting the options to my team and is making it difficult to get positive results where possible. Last time out against Warrington Town Reserves they played a very strong team and we lost comfortably but that’s behind us and we want to get back on track. We have already faced AFC Macclesfield and they are a very strong outfit who have a small squad but a very settled squad and have real quality throughout the side and look to be the champions this season. But we’re no pushovers and we want to spoil a potential party. Enjoy the game, Dave

Matchday Programme 2015/16

AFC Macclesfield are the visitors to Valley Road in today’s league encounter. HOME GROUND: Stockport Sports Village FORM: WWWWWW 2014/15 LEAGUE FINISH: 5th

Manager: Ed Haslam

AFC Macclesfield’s recent history has seen them enjoy good success. They were formerly known as Poynton Kingfisher and the club was struggling in the East Cheshire League. Poynton were playing home games at Woodford Recreation Ground. Current manager Ed Haslam and secretary Bob Haslam took reigns of the team at the beginning of the 2012/13 season bringing big changes to the team. They changed their name to FC Woodford and with the name change came their first ever league title.

Success followed again next season with an unbeaten season and another league title in the Altrincham and District league. Woodford moved to the Cheshire league for the 2014/15 season and moved to the Stockport Sports Village. They finished 5th and reached the Quarter-Finals of the J A Walton Challenge Cup. Prior to the 2015/16 season FC Woodford became AFC Macclesfield and this season looks like being a title winning season yet again.

Darren Storey has really got the reserves firing on all cylinders winning 4 of the last 5 games.

Beating Sale United Reserves 5-2 & 4-0 in the last 2 games and being very unlucky losing 2-3 to APFC and two 3-0 wins against Altrincham Hale Reserves and Flixton Afc respectively. Darren has said its been great seeing the team grow and fright for each other and play some great football and they look forward to continuing the climb up the table.

Next Up Unicorn Ath v Litherland REMYCA April 12th Valley Road, Flixton Cheshire League 2

Next up for Unicorn Athletic is a home game on Tuesday night where Litherland REMYCA are the visitors to Valley Road. REMYCA are the new boys to this league, they are the development squad for the NWCFL first team side and only have one win to their name this season. Manager Dave Potter had his say on the game, “Another tough game for us despite our visitors being bottom.

We have so many injuries which are not helping us and even so our opponents are a good side who are not enjoying the luck at the moment. It’ll be a competitive game but we know we’ll have to perform to get anything positive from the game”. Another big home league game and we need your support so get down to Valley Road on Tuesday night and support the team hopefully to an important 3 points There will be some build up on the club’s Twitter and Facebook pages so make sure you’re keeping updated with the latest Unicorn news.
