Percorrere i sentieri fiesolani in bike non è solo un’esperienza escursionistica “diversa”, ma è anche un’occasione per conoscere la bellezza della natura del suo territorio e un appuntamento irripetibile con la storia, l’arte e la cultura. Si tratta di itinerari “turistici” non competitivi, tutti accompagnati e condotti da preparate Guide ambientali-escursionistiche, della durata di circa quattro ore, dalle 8,30 alle 12,30.
Roaming the paths of Fiesole by bike is not just an “out of the ordinary” cycling experience, it’s a chance to get to know the beautiful nature of the area and enjoy an unrepeatable encounter with its history, art and culture.The itineraries are aimed at sightseeing and are not competitive. They are led and accompanied by trained environmental-excursionist guides and each last for approximately four hours, from 8.30 to 12.30.

Partenza da Fiesole ore 8,30 Ritrovo dei partecipanti P.zza Mino davanti al Municipio È un tour che da Fiesole, che si vanta di aver dato i natali alla vicina Firenze, porterà, attraverso la via vecchia Fiesolana, unica strada fino al 1840 ad unire le due città, passando poi da via Boccaccio e dal quartiere delle Cure, nel cuore storico di Firenze, p.zza Duomo, p.zza Signoria, Ponte Vecchio. Poi dopo aver costeggiato i lungarni risalirà verso Ponte a Mensola e passando dal bosco di Vincigliata tornerà a Fiesole. Leaving Fiesole at 8.30 Meet at Piazza Mino in front of the Town Hall This tour starts at Fiesole, which can boast to having given nearby Florence its ancestors.We will take the via vecchia Fiesolana (the old Fiesole Road) which, until 1840, was the only road joining the two cities, to then cycle down via Boccaccio and the Cure area to reach the historical heart of Florence: Piazza Duomo, Piazza Signoria and Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge). After coasting along the banks of the River Arno, we’ll climb back up towards Ponte a Mensola, make our way through the woods at Vincigliata and return to Fiesole.

Partenza da Fiesole ore 8,30 Ritrovo dei partecipanti P.zza Mino davanti al Municipio Questo itinerario lungo remote vie di comunicazione attraverserà una vallata antica di una bellezza forte ed a tratti aspra, lontana dalla confusione del mondo vicino. Passando da Castel di Poggio, realizzato nell’Ottocento in stile neo-medievale come ideale ricostruzione del primitivo castello, e lasciando alle spalle le poche case di Ontignano con al centro la Pieve romanica, si arriverà nella Valle del Sambre, antico fiume frequentato dagli Etruschi per il culto dei morti, dal corso incassato e suggestivo, interrotto da polle e cascatelle e dove è ancora possibile vedere il granchio di fiume. Risalendo per Valle e poi Pagnolle, dove leggenda vuole che proprio qui sia sbocciato l’amore tra il sommo poeta Dante e Beatrice, lasciando alle spalle Monte Fanna e San Clemente il tour farà ritorno a Fiesole.

Leaving Fiesole at 8.30 Meet at Piazza Mino in front of the Town Hall This itinerary runs across old routes and crosses an ancient valley of immense, yet sometimes harsh, beauty, far away from the confusion of the world nearby. Making our way past Castel di Poggio, built in the nineteenth century in a neomedieval style as an ideal reconstruction of the original castle, we leave behind the few houses at Ontignano, a little hamlet with a Romanesque church in its centre, and reach the Sambre Valley. This old, evocative river, with its high banks and intermittent pools and waterfalls, was once used by the Etruscans for their cults for the dead. It is still possible to see the fresh water crab there. We begin our ascent through Valle and Pagnolle, where, according to legend, the love between the bard Dante and Beatrice blossomed. Leaving behind Monte Fanna and San Clemente, we arrive back at Fiesole.

Partenza da Fiesole ore 8,30 Ritrovo dei partecipanti P.zza Mino davanti al Municipio È un percorso alla scoperta delle cave di pietra serena del Montececeri, conosciute fin dall’antichità dagli etruschi e romani e poi dal XV secolo utilizzate dai grandi artisti fiorentini come Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Vasari e Cellini per i monumenti più prestigiosi. Montececeri è anche luogo “leonardiano” poiché proprio dalla sommità del colle Leonardo da Vinci nel 1506 sperimentò la sua “Macchina del Volo”. Lasciato Montececeri ed oltrepassate le cave di Maiano il tour prosegue verso il bosco di Vincigliata per risalire al caratteristico borgo di Settignano e da qui, passando da Corbignano e dall’ANPIL del Mensola, ritornare a Fiesole.

Leaving Fiesole at 8.30 Meet at Piazza Mino in front of the Town Hall. This tour lets us discover the Montececeri caves of pietra serena, a local sandstone known and used since ancient times by the Etruscans and Romans. Because of its particular characteristics from the XV century great Florentine artists such as Michelangelo, Brunelleschi,Vasari and Cellini adopted the stone for creating some of their most famous works. Montececeri is also a “Leonardian site”, since it was precisely here, in 1506, that Leonardo da Vinci launched his “Flying Machine”.from the top of the hill- After leaving ;Montececeri and passing the caves at Maiano, the tour takes us to the Vincigliata woods where we will start our climb up to the characteristic village of Settignano. From here, passing Corbignano and the Mensola ANPIL (Protected Nature Area of Local Interest) we make our way back to Fiesole.

Partenza da Fiesole ore 8,30 Ritrovo dei partecipanti P.zza Mino davanti al Municipio È un tour che porterà, passando da Monte Fanna e San Clemente, fino a Poggio Pratone il punto più alto di Fiesole, 702 m, immerso in un paesaggio pre-appeninico e da cui si gode una vista superba, a 360°, del territorio non solo comunale, ma anche fiorentino e dei comuni limitrofi. Qui si possono ancora vedere i resti di una strada romana che la storia popolare vuole solcata da Annibale nella sua marcia verso Roma. In questo luogo era solito recarsi a passeggiare e meditare lo scrittore fiorentino Bruno Cicognani al cui ricordo è posta una stele. Poi si farà ritorno a Fiesole partendo da via dell’Acquinvoglio, dal significato onomatopeico che ricorda il gorgoglio dell’acqua della vicina sorgente, percorrendo tutta la valle del Mugnone, esempio unico di paesaggio mezzadrile fiorentino, fino a via del Bargellino.

Leaving Fiesole at 8.30 Meet at Piazza Mino in front of the Town Hall Passing Monte Fanna and San Clemente, we reach as far as Poggio Pratone, the highest point in Fiesole at 702 m, immersed in a pre-Apennine landscape from where you can enjoy a superb 360 degree view of not only the territories of the municipality of Fiesole but also those of Florence and the surrounding communes. From here you can still see the remains of a Roman road, along which, local history claims, Hannibal marched on his way towards Rome.This is also the place where the Florentine writer, Bruno Cicognani, used to walk and meditate, and there is a stele placed there in commemoration. We will make our way back to Fiesole departing from via dell’Acquinvogliolo, whose onomatopoeic name reminds you of the bubbling water from the nearby spring; cycling along all the Mugnone river valley a unique example of the Florentine sharecropping landscape, we reach as far as Via del Bargellino.

I presenti itinerari si inseriscono nelle attività del Progetto Regionale “Osservatori Turistici di Destinazione” nati per valutare le azioni e le scelte più opportune per promuovere un “Turismo Sostenibile e Competitivo”. La Regione Toscana, nell’ambito della rete europea NECSTouR (Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism) di cui è il capofila, ha dato avvio ad un importante programma, in cui è inserita anche Fiesole, con l’obiettivo di garantire un equilibrio tra lo sviluppo del turismo ed il rispetto del patrimonio culturale ed ambientale del suo splendido territorio. Raggiungere un equilibrio fra lo sviluppo delle attività economiche, la tutela delle caratteristiche ambientali, culturali e sociali ed il miglioramento della qualità dell’esperienza dei turisti, dei lavoratori del turismo e delle popolazioni locali è la forma “sostenibile” a cui punta la Toscana per diventare sempre di più meta d’eccellenza nel panorama europeo ed internazionale. Fiesole, assieme ad altri nove comuni della Toscana, è stata scelta come sede di un Osservatorio che, affiancato da un Forum permanente composto da rappresentanti della Regione, Provincia, Università, cittadini, categorie economiche, culturali ed ambientali, dovrà riflettere sui modelli di sviluppo turistico, economico e culturale del proprio territorio cercando di coniugare l’ambiziosa relazione tra sostenibilità e competitività secondo dieci temi strategici– qualità della vita dei residenti e dei turisti, qualità del lavoro, destagionalizzazione, tutela attiva del patrimonio culturale ed ambientale, tutela attiva dell’identità dei luoghi, utilizzo ottimale delle risorse energetiche ed idriche, riduzione dei rifiuti e migliore gestione degli stessi . Fiesole, proponendo questi itinerari, intende far conoscere, valorizzare e nel contempo tutelare uno dei suoi elementi più forti di identità e di distinzione: il paesaggio e l’ambiente che hanno segnato profondamente la propria storia antica e recente. Percorrere questi itinerari significa calarsi in un cammino di storia, di arte, di cultura che dialoga, interagisce e si equilibria perfettamente con uno stupefacente paesaggio rurale e urbano.
These itineraries are part of the activities created by the Regional “Osservatori Turistici di Destinazione” (Tourist Destination Observatory Forums) to evaluate the most appropriate actions and choices to promote “Sustainable and Competitive Tourism”. Within the ambit of the European NECSTouR (Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism), the Region of Tuscany, of which it is leader, had started an important programme, including Fiesole, with the aim to guarantee a balance between developing tourism and the respect for the cultural and environmental heritage of its splendid territory. Reaching an equilibrium between the development of economic activity, safeguarding the environmental, cultural and social characteristics and improving the quality of the experiences of tourists, workers in the field of tourism and the local population is the “sustainable” form which Tuscany is aiming for to become more and more a destination of excellence in the European and International scene. Fiesole together with another nine communes in Tuscany has been chosen as the seat of an Observatory which, flanked by a permanent Forum composed of representatives from the Region, Province, University, citizens, commercial, cultural and environmental entities, will consider different models of touristic, economic and cultural development of the territory in an attempt to combine the ambitious affiliation between sustainability and competitiveness according to ten strategic points: quality of life of residents and tourists, quality of work, off-season promotions, actively safeguarding the cultural and environmental heritage, actively safeguarding the characteristics of sites, the best use of energy and water resources, reduction of rubbish and improving waste management. By proposing these itineraries, Fiesole aims to reveal, enhance and at the same time protect one of its strongest characteristic features – its landscape and environment that have so deeply marked its ancient and recent history. Covering these itineraries means plunging into a historical, artistic and cultural experience which communicates, interacts and balances perfectly with a stupendous rural and urban landscape.
