La mia ricerca pittorica si colloca tra il mistero profondo dell’oceano ai limiti dell’immaginabile e la provocazione attraverso la costante presenza dell’eros, delle emozioni infinite e delicate. Per me dipingere equivale ad un viaggio attraverso i caratteri, le personalità e la bellezza in tutte le sue sfumature: movimenti, profumi, colori, sensazioni e le emozioni sono sempre la fonte d’ispirazione della mia creatività. Sono spinto dalla voglia di toccare e sentire la leggerezza, di rivelare e nascondere nello stesso momento la mia anima autentica. In un certo senso sto creando una sorta di primitivismo innovativo.
The inspiration for my art can be found in the profound mystery of the ocean, at limits of the imagination and provocation of the constant presence of eros, in endless and delicate emotions. Painting for me is equivalent to a journey through characters, personalities and beauty in all aspects: movements, scents, colours, feelings and always emotions. I feel driven by the desire to touch and feel lightness, revealing and concealing at the same time my true soul. In a sense, I’m creating a kind of innovative primitivism.
Mi piace immaginare che le persone davanti alle mie opere si pongano delle domande e che le risposte possano essere le più svariate, tante quante sono le personalità diverse; perché solo cosi l’arte rimane in costante movimento.
I like to imagine that people in front of my works pose questions to themselves and that there may be different answers, as many as there are different personalities; because in this way art remains in constant motion.
BIOGRAFIA Dejan Bogdanovic nasce il 7 dicembre del 1963 a Sarajevo, figlio di un campione di scacchi internazionale e di una professoressa di tedesco. Fin da piccolissimo Dejan è attratto dal mondo intellettuale-artistico e, a soli 5 anni, dipinge il suo primo ciclo di natura morta. Dopo essersi laureato in Pittura e Storia dell’Arte all’Academia di Belle Arti di Sarajevo, Dejan si trasferisce in Italia, dopo aver vinto una borsa di studio al prestigioso Studio Art Centers International (SACI) di Firenze. Continua a vivere e dipingere a Firenze, finché la guerra civile nel suo paese d’origine, la Jugoslavia, non gli impedisce di concentrarsi sull’attività artistica. Avendo un padre serbo ed una madre croata, si trova praticamente diviso tra i due fronti. In questo periodo difficile, Dejan scopre il suo interesse nella gastronomia e decide di aprire un bar, che gestisce fino al 1999, quando torna a dipingere. Più tardi Dejan crea il primo ristorante fusion a Firenze, il Picasso, dove espone le sue opere, combinando la passione per l’arte con quella per l’enogastronomia. Il ristorante diventa presto uno dei locali più in voga in città, dove un eclettico gruppo di fiorentini e stranieri si ritrova per degustare una collezione di vini rossi unica e straordinaria. Dal 2008 Dejan torna a dedicarsi esclusivamente alla pittura. Vive per un breve periodo in Slovenia, ma alla
fine del 2011 torna a Firenze. Nel 2012 apre un bellissimo studio d’Arte in Santo Spirito, quartiere fiorentino più bohémien, dove tuttora lavora. Recentemente ha partecipato con grande successo all’OFA (Olympic Fine Arts), mostra internazionale organizzata in occasione delle Olimpiadi di Londra, dove ha rappresentato la Bosnia con il suo impressionante quadro Mens sana in corpore sano, ora esposto permenentemente nel nuovo Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Pechino. 7

BIOGRAPHY Dejan Bogdanovic was born in Sarajevo on December 7th, 1963, as the son of an international chess champion and a teacher of German. Dejan discovered the intellectual art world at a very young age: he was fiveyears-old, he had painted his first still-life series. After his graduation from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Dejan moved to study in Italy, where he had received a grant from the prestigious Studio Art Centers International (short SACI), in Florence. There, he continued painting, until the civil war in his home country of Yugoslavia became too intense for him to focus on his art. Having a Serbian father and a Croatian mother, he was - so to speak - a child of both fractions in this gruelling conflict. During this time of grief for his country, Dejan discovered his interest in gastronomy and found an unsual way to take his mind off the war. He decided to open a café, which he ran until he returned to painting in 1999. Later Dejan also created the first fusion restaurant in Florence (aptly named Picasso), which combined his art with his love for fine wines and food. His own art adorned the Picasso’s walls and the restaurant became one of Florence’s trendiest places to eat and hang out late night. Here, an eclectic group of locals and foreigners could be found drinking his unique collection of red wine.
Since 2008 Dejan returned to painting exclusively. Later he moved for a short time to Slovenia, but coming back to Florence at the end of 2011. In 2012 Dejan opened a beautyful Art Studio in the bohemian artist quarter of Florence called Santo Spirito, where he still works every day. Recently the painter earned a big success at the OFA Exhibition (Olympic Fine Arts) in London, where he represented Bosnia with his impressive painting Mens sana in Corpore sano. Now the painting is premanently exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art of Beijing.
