How God Saves Sinners
Home Discussion Page Romans
This page is provided for those who might wish to discuss the lesson with household members. The Scripture, principle, and questions for each day correlate with the Scripture and questions in the BSF lesson for this week. Each week the study for Day 1 is a review based on the previous week’s study. Days 2 through 6 cover the new material. The first question for each day’s Scripture reading is designed to be used as a discussion question. The second question may be used for discussion or for individual application.
Day 1: Review of Romans 3:1-20: No One Righteous Main Truth: All people are completely depraved and helpless to change themselves. Principles: •
God is pleased to answer all reasonable questions.
•
We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners.
•
Our efforts to obey the law show us our depravity.
Question: Why do you think people do not want to hear that they are completely depraved and helpless to change themselves?
Days 2-6: How God Saves Sinners Day 2: Read Romans 3:21-23. Righteousness does not come through the law, but through faith (belief) in Jesus Christ. Use a dictionary and discuss what the word “righteousness” means. What must people believe about Jesus Christ in order to receive His righteousness? (Read also Romans 10:9-10.)
Day 3: Read Romans 3:23-24. God justifies sinful people freely by His grace. Give some examples of how you and all people fall short of God’s glory. How have you experienced God’s grace (favor you do not deserve) this week? Take time now to thank God.
Day 4: Read Romans 3:24-26. God presented Jesus as a sacrifice for sinners. Why would God present His own Son as a sacrifice for your sin? How can you express your thanks for this kind of love for you?
Day 5: Review Romans 3:21-26. God made a way to forgive sinners. What attributes of God do you find in this lesson? Which of these attributes gives you great comfort? Why?
Day 6:
Review Romans 3:21-26. God has provided the way for sinners to be declared right with Him. What have you learned about God in this week’s study? How could you make this truth a part of your life?
