Justification by Grace through Faith Alone

This page is provided for those who might wish to discuss the lesson with household members. The Scripture, principle, and questions for each day correlate with the Scripture and questions in the BSF lesson for this week. Each week the study for Day 1 is a review based on the previous week’s study. Days 2 through 6 cover the new material. The first question for each day’s Scripture reading is designed to be used as a discussion question. The second question may be used for discussion or for individual application.

Day 1: Review of Romans 3:21-26: How God Saves Sinners Main Truth: God has provided the way for sinners to be declared right with Him. Principles: •

Righteousness is granted, not earned.

Righteousness comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.

Righteousness is free to believers but was costly for Jesus Christ.

Question: What did you learn in the last lesson about how a person is made right with God?

Days 2-6: Justification by Grace through Faith Alone Day 2: Read Romans 3:27-28. Justification by faith excludes boasting. How do people today boast about their righteousness? What happens in your heart when you begin to look down on other people for who they are or things they do?

Day 3: Read Romans 3:27-28. God justifies people through faith (belief) in Jesus Christ. Discuss what kind of faith justifies (or saves) a person. (If needed, use a dictionary.) Does this kind of faith describe you?

Day 4: Read Romans 3:29-30. There is one God and one way of salvation for all people. Who are Gentiles? (If needed, use a dictionary.) Are you convinced there is only one God? Why or why not?

Day 5: Read Romans 3:31. The Bible shows us God’s will for the Christian’s life. Why do people who are justified through faith still obey God’s commands? (See 1 John 1:5-10.) How has God encouraged and helped you to obey Him?

Day 6: Review Romans 3:27-31. Faith is the pathway through which Christ’s righteousness becomes ours. What have you learned about God in this week’s study? How could you make this truth a part of your life?
