Standing in Grace

Home Discussion Page Romans

This page is provided for those who might wish to discuss the lesson with household members. The Scripture, principle, and questions for each day correlate with the Scripture and questions in the BSF lesson for this week. Each week the study for Day 1 is a review based on the previous week’s study. Days 2 through 6 cover the new material. The first question for each day’s Scripture reading is designed to be used as a discussion question. The second question may be used for discussion or for individual application.

Day 1: Review of Romans 4:1-25: The Gospel Proved from Scripture Main Truth: God’s promise of righteousness comes by faith in Christ alone. Principles: •

God forgives sin apart from works.

• God forgives sin apart from religious observances. •

God forgives sin by faith in Jesus Christ.

Question: What did you learn about faith from Abraham’s example?

Days 2-6: Standing in Grace Day 2: Read Romans 5:1-2. Everyone who is justified through faith has peace with God. What does it mean to have peace with God? Do you have peace with God?

Day 3: Read Romans 5:3-5. Suffering is a reason for Christians to rejoice. What good things does God promise come from suffering as a Christian? What suffering or problems do you have? What are some good things that might result?

Day 4: Read Romans 5:6-8. No one can save themselves. Give three words that describe the condition of everyone for whom Christ died. Why are people, including you, powerless to save themselves? (See Ephesians 2:1-9.)

Day 5: Read Romans 5:9-11. Jesus Christ has reconciled us to God. Talk about the meaning of the word “reconciliation.” Use a dictionary to help you. Is God reconciled to us, or are we reconciled to God? What is the difference?

Day 6: Review Romans 5:1-11. Paul describes the blessings of being justified by God’s grace through faith. What have you learned about God in this week’s study? How could you make this truth a part of your life?
