She Nearly Wept She straightened out the tangled sheets. She stared off into space. Incapable to function, Her heart begins to race.

Within a fleeting moment, There was strong reliance Quickly it unraveled It’s a cold and dark defiance.

Communication, it had stalled. That was the final try. Exhausting all her efforts, There was no reply.

Frustration must be nullified. No need for preparation. Now void of any sign, It’s time for separation.

For years, they’d been together. Letters, they did share. Now with disconnect, There’s silence and despair.

Here’s the grand finale. There’s nothing to erase. This day has come too soon. Now boldly, she will face.

No notice posted in advance. No writing on the wall. Clearly there’s no evidence, There was no final call.

Then the sun began to shine. It replaced the darkened winter. Then quickly she resolved, ….”I’ll buy a new printer.”

Is your current portfolio correctly geared to your individual level of tolerance for risk? One sound way to answer these questions is by utilizing asset allocation -- a disciplined, objective investment game plan that will help you meet your financial goals. Many financial professionals believe the asset allocation decision is the most important step in the investment process. To be most effective, a personal asset allocation model should be tailored to your particular goals and needs. A simple asset allocation model for an individual investor generally requires a portfolio of assets divided into three categories -- stocks, bonds and cash. Each is assigned a fixed percentage. Based on this strategy, a conservative portfolio would generally contain more bonds and cash than stocks. A more aggressive portfolio might contain a higher percentage of stocks. Since diversification of assets is generally recognized as a way to potentially reduce and manage risk in a portfolio, the mix of assets in your allocation model should reflect your preferred level of risk. Considerations such as current spending requirements, tax implications and inflation-adjusted return may also be addressed through the asset allocation process. Asset allocation is flexible and revolves around personal needs. However, professional financial advisors have generally found that investors at various age levels tend to be best served by adopting allocation models that address the needs of their “life-cycle phase”. In most cases, the longer your investment time horizon, the more aggressive your investment strategy might be. For example, investors in their 30s and 40s tend to have several needs and concerns in common (e.g., children, new home, college education, retirement planning). To address these concerns, an asset allocation plan that emphasizes stocks is often recommended because they historically have provided superior returns over time. Even though past performance may not be indicative of future results. At the other end of the spectrum are investors who are close to or who have entered into retirement. Their goal might include providing enough income to maintain a lifestyle, or growth of their capital to ensure that they do not outlive their assets. For these investors an above-average holding in bonds may be recommended. Obviously, these are guidelines. When implementing as asset allocation strategy, the various percentages allocated to stocks, bonds and cash should be assessed on a personal basis and reassessed annually. Be sure to check with your financial advisor regularly on your asset allocation strategy. Asset allocation and diversification do not guarantee a profit or protect against a loss. THE DUCK IS DEAD

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, “I’m sorry. Your duck, Cuddles, has passed away.” The distressed woman wailed, “Are you sure?” “Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead,” replied the vet. “How can you be so sure?” she protested. “I mean you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.” The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said,“I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck. The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “$250?” she cried. “$250 just to tell me my duck is dead?” The vet shrugged, “I’m sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it’s now $250.”

Studies show that in spite of Wall Street’s claim that this recession is soon to be just a painful memory, John Q. Public isn’t as convinced. NielsenWire, in an article dated April 2, 2010 states that “the downward trend of consumers shopping less hit a new low in February 2010, reporting a 4% year-over-year decline in monthly alloutlet shopping trips. And while per trip shopping basket rings began to pick up during and after the holidays, February remained static with a 1% increase compared to last year.” So, with less overall store traffic, when you do get a customer through your door, how can you keep them there? Consider these three points, in this order: 1. Keep ‘em happy. 2. Make ‘em happy. (Yes, I know this seems backward, but it’s easier to keep a customer than to get a new one.) 3. Stand out from the crowd. Keep ‘em happy: You want your current customers to be satisfied when they walk out the door. Keep them coming back with incentives or rewards programs that encourage shopping frequency. Don’t skimp on customer service, and also do some research about your customers.
