Bill Crandall from Modern Machinery talks about their new Tuition Assistance and Loan Repayment Program. “Modern Machinery Days” is a three-day event where Modern Machinery’s instructors teach Northern’s diesel students about their industry leading Komatsu Dozers, Excavators and Wheel Loaders. This year, they conducted three master-classes covering Hydrostatic transmissions, Intelligent Machines, and Tier 4 Final engines. For Sale: Breeder Sellout! On Wednesday night, they announced their new Diesel Student Tuition Assistance and Loan Repayment Program during a dinner info session. On Thursday and Friday, they interviewed students for potential internships and/or future employment with Modern Machinery. “We hope to increase our exposure to the students, so the students can get a better idea about what we have to offer,” said Bill Crandall, Modern Machinery’s Senior Advisor. “We realize that there are many companies out there who are trying to hire Northern’s diesel graduates, and we realize we need to stay competitive,” said Crandall. Modern Machinery has two programs available for MSUNorthern students. The first program is for student internships. Summer interns earn $20/hour and receive hands-on technical training during their internship. Students who successfully complete a summer internship program are eligible to receive tuition assistance, depending on their year. The Modern Machinery Diesel Student Tuition Assistance and Loan Repayment Program helps to offset student debt incurred while obtaining a Diesel Technology degree. It allows the student to focus on their career path, while employed at Modern Machinery.

The plan gives each student they hire full-time after graduation, $8,000 over the course of three years to help reduce their student debt. Applicants are encouraged to apply during their freshman year in school; however, any student may apply at any point before graduation. What Day Is Thanksgiving in 2019? Here's why Thanksgiving is so late this year. Whether you're hosting the biggest food day of the year, traveling to be with extended family, or thinking about letting a professional cook the feast, early planning will save you money and a whole lot of hassle. We all know that — but it seems like every year on the Monday after Thanksgiving, we're all also thinking to ourselves, I shouldn't have brought that extra pie home ... and next year Thanksgiving won't sneak up on me. So, what day is Thanksgiving on in 2019? If you're checking the calendar time and time again, chalk it up to a date that moves around so much from year to year (and not senility). Last year it was November 22 — and this year it's almost a whole seven days later! Thanksgiving is always held on the fourth Thursday of November. This year, Thanksgiving is on November 28, 2019.

Annual Chouteau County Country Christmas is coming Dec. 7 & 8, and the Trash & Treasure Shop in Loma will open its doors for this Great Event both days from 10am to 4pm. Shop among all the merchandise on sale or make your Best Offer. Thank you for shopping and enjoy the holidays! 11-I

Why is it always on the fourth Thursday of November? In 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that November 26 would be a national day to ask God to bless the family members who had lost loved ones in the Civil War — as well as give thanks for the Union Army win at Gettysburg. He declared that a national day of thanks-giving would be observed on the last Thursday of November every year thereafter. It's thought that he chose that particular day because the first national day of gratitude — called for by George Washington to mark the nation's triumph in The Revolutionary war —was Thursday, November 26, 1789. It wasn't until 1939 that Franklin D. Roosevelt moved it to the second-to-last Thursday to allow for more shopping time between the holiday and Christmas, which he believed would bolster the retail sector. So why do we celebrate Thanksgiving? Lincoln was the first president to make the holiday a national observance. But many of the northern states (and colonies before the American Revolution) celebrated periods of fasting and feasts meant to give thanks to God for having surmounted hardships. Our modern holiday is modeled on the harvest feast held by the Pilgrims in 1621, which many have noted was not what then would have been considered a religious thanksgiving. It was attended by members of the Wampanoag tribe — who came bearing much of the food and like most Native American tribes had their own long-standing tradition of harvest celebrations. In fact, there was so much food that the revelry lasted for three days. So sitting down to a big plate of yet more leftovers on the Saturday after Turkey Day isn't overkill, it's tradition. *Source:TIFFANY BLACKSTONE. Nov 8, 2019. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/

University of Wyoming Extension agent and Ranching For Profit School instructor, Dallas Mount, recently led a management succession workshop in Baggs, Wyoming. Dallas is a gifted, innovative teacher, and I was flattered when he asked me to participate in the program.

Is there another way???

Dallas did a great job of distilling successful succession into five core areas. Getting folks on the same page Creating a family employment policy Defining roles Deciding who will own what? Retiring in Style I’m going to use the next five ProfitTips to share some of the pearls from the Management Succession program that Dallas led. Getting on the same page To get on the same page you actually have to have a page! Agreements and policies need to be written down. If they aren’t documented, people cannot be held accountable to them. Actually, we need to get people on the same pages, because there are three distinct documents that every business needs. The first page is a shared vision that describes what y’all see for the future of the ranch. At the Ranching For Profit School we use a process to help people separate positions from interests and create a blueprint for the future of their ranch. The second page focuses on owner value. This page should include a description of the financial and non-monetary values the owners of your business want to receive. It should also identify specific, measurable targets and show how and when achievement relative to those targets will be measured. The third page is an outline of succession and asset transfer plans. Too often kids grow up with a sense of entitlement and an expectation that “someday this, or at least a big part of this, will be mine.” It’s probably healthier to make it clear to family members, from the time they are young, that there might be career options for them that involve the ranch. They should understand that there is no guarantee of employment. It’s unlikely that you can just create jobs out of thin air for any family member who wants to come on board. They will probably have to wait for an opening. It is difficult for them to step in unless someone else is prepared to step down. Junior must also understand that the ranch isn’t a jobs program for other-wise unemployable family members. When openings become available, they will only be filled by family members who have the skills to be successful in those roles.

Enjoying Everyday Life Joyce Meyer

Learning to See the Unseen Being a Christian and following God is a great adventure. It’s also challenging because, to people who don’t believe in Christ, we seem a bit odd in our way of thinking and doing things, like we’re upside down compared to how the world generally operates. But the truth is, we’re part of “the upside-down kingdom that is right-side up.” During His ministry on Earth, Jesus’ message was, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matthew 4:17 NIV). His disciples believed Jesus had come to set up an earthly kingdom and rule the world, but that isn’t what He was talking about at all. The disciples didn’t get it. They were thinking in physical terms, not spiritual ones. As believers in Jesus who are born again, we are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17); we belong to God and are part of His kingdom (Colossians 1:12-14). The kingdom of God is unseen to the natural eye, and it is eternal. Developing Spiritual Vision The apostle Paul talked about seeing the unseen. In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, he said, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (NIV). Paul had been beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned, and gone hungry many times, yet he considered these experiences to be “light and momentary troubles.” He believed this because the kingdom of God—what is eternal—was more real to him than this earthly realm—what is temporary. This is hard for us because we are so accustomed to only believing what we can see with our natural eyes, and if we don’t see God doing something, we assume He isn’t doing anything. But instead of just looking at the world around us and our problems, we can learn to think about and see with spiritual eyes what God is in the process of doing in the midst of it all. I’ve discovered that when I’m feeling discouraged because I’ve been praying for something a long time and I’m weary of waiting for breakthrough, instead of getting down in the dumps, I can stir up my faith and say, “God is working!” If you want to have a steady flow of joy in your life and “the peace of God, which transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7 NIV), learn how to believe what you can’t see more than what you can see. Open the Eyes of My Heart In Ephesians 1:18, Paul prayed “that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you” (NIV). The eyes of your heart can see the unseen realm of the spirit and give you hope—a confident expectation of God’s goodness in your life—in every situation. With this kind of hope, when hard times come, we can look beyond what we see in the world around us and realize that there are good things going on. God has done, and He’s doing, so many things in our lives! He loves us and has good plans for us to give us hope and a future. (Jeremiah • 29:11) • He’s always with us and will never leave us or forsake us. (Deuteronomy 31:6; Hebrews 13:5) Jesus paid the price to heal and restore every kind of brokenness in our • lives. (Isaiah 53 and 61) • And He’s preparing a place for us so we can be with Him throughout eternity! (John 14:2-3) THIS is the truth we need to live by. Refuse to Give Up! I wonder what God is up to in your life. I know it’s easy to get discouraged and fearful when hard times come and it seems things will never change. But if you’re a believer in Christ and you’re praying according to the truth in God’s Word, then you can be assured He is working. So don’t stop believing because you’re not getting an answer as quickly as you’d like. Keep believing no matter how long it takes. And remember that just because you haven’t seen the final outcome yet, it doesn’t mean God isn’t doing something. Make a determined decision to trust Him and believe what He says no matter what you think or feel or how things look. And pray for God to enlighten the eyes of your heart so you “know the hope to which he has called you” in His kingdom. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more on this topic, order Joyce’s four-CD series Sit, Stand, Walk, Run. DAVE SAYS:

Dave Ramsey is a personal money management expert, popular national radio personality and the author of three New York Times bestsellers – The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace Revisited and More Than Enough. In them, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

Emotions, basics, and change Dear Dave, I’ve gotten out of debt before following your plan, but I always seem to fall right back in. I find myself spending more than I mean to whenever I go out shopping or running errands. I’m tired of all this, and I want to stop busting my budget and get control of my money once and for all. Do you have any advice? Patrick Dear Patrick, Years ago, when I lost everything financially, there were two or three extremely strong emotions that spurred me toward change. Probably the biggest emotion was fear. I was scared to death I’d be broke for the rest of my life, and not be able to take care of my family. Don’t misunderstand me, though. I don’t think you should ever live your life in fear. But a reasonable, healthy level of fear where some things are concerned can be a fantastic motivator. Another emotion was disgust. I realized the way I had been living and handling money was stupid. So, I made a proactive, conscious decision that I was going to change, and things were going to be different. The third emotion was contentment. You know, advertisers try to make us believe our lives will be better, and we’ll be happier, if we just go out and buy their stuff. I can tell you from personal experience when this idea is crammed down your throat every day, it can warp your perception of contentment and happiness. Lots of stuff does not equal lots of happiness. If you’ve tried several times, and are still falling back into the same old trap, maybe you should approach your situation in a practical, day-to-day way. Stop going places where you’re tempted to spend money on silly things. When you go out running errands and shopping, make a list of only the bare necessities, and take along just enough cash to pay for them. Spending money on a bunch of stuff you don’t need, and probably don’t even really want, isn’t going to bring you contentment. It’s just going to bust your budget, and put you in a financial hole that will, sooner or later, become very difficult—if not impossible—to dig your way out of! —Dave
