EW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday recommended dissolution of the Delhi Assembly, paving the way for fresh polls ending eight months of political hibernation after the fall of the AAP government in February. The decision was taken at a meeting of the cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after LG Najeeb Jung sent his recommendation after talks on Monday with BJP, Congress and AAP who all expressed their inability to form government and sought fresh mandate, reports PTI. "The Union Cabinet recommended dissolution of the Delhi Assembly with immediate effect," a senior Union Minister said after the brief meeting. While the fresh elections may be held early next year, the process for the November 25 by-elections to three constituencies, for which last date of nominations is on Wednesday, will be cancelled. The LG held consultations on Monday with political parties in the wake of the

uro India Technology Sourcing (EITS) is a business meeting aiming to establish new contacts between companies from India and Europe interested to develop and boost strong trade relations in the field of materials, processes and energies. EITS is a part of the public strategy for the development of a European Materials and Energy Valley in Eastern France. EITS is organised by Moselle Development, the economic development agency of the General Council of Moselle,” said Claude Bitte, Head of Moselle Delegation event held jointly by All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre Mumbai. EITS 2014 scheduled from December 9 to 11 expects participation from 300 companies from India and Europe focusing on materials and processes for industry, transportation and energy. The focus sectors for the technology conference include producing materials (metals, chemicals, plastics and natural fibres) and equipment endowed with new functions, generating power, improving energy efficiency, saving energy, storing energy, distributing energy, recycling renewable raw materials and saving of raw materials, Bitte stated. The key features of the EITS 2014 include one-to-one meetings, company presentations, conferences, exhibition, technical site-visits, cluster matching and networking events. ith the salvage of the wreckage on Tuesday of a cruise liner, Costa Concordia, which sank at Porto Giglio in Italy, in January 2012, the remains of Russel Rebello, a resident of Naigaon (West), were traced and the corpse was sent for DNA analysis; it should be reaching Mumbai tomorrow, according to
Jim Walker, Maritime lawyer looking after the affairs of the sunken ship. As the ship sank, the master of the ship Captain Francisco had reportedly abandoned the cruise which had a number of crew from Vasai on board. Some passengers and crew were rescued and some bodies were

traced but Russel Rebello could not be found then. Though Russel Rebello, who was a part of the ship's catering department, by profession was a 'Captain' of another kind, as he was associated with the hospitality industry; yet as per maritime tradition, he performed the duties of a 'Captain' who virtually commands the ship as he was the last to leave after evacuating others to safety, which cost him his life.
foreign companies have set base in Moselle. Also, the region is well connected by roadways, railways and airways with the neighbouring cities. Bitte also said that the EITS 2014 seminar is expected to boost India’s trade with the European Union. Germany and France which form key hosts of EITS are leading trading partners of India with trade worth Euros 17.4 billion and Euros 7.3 billion respectively. The European participants at the EITS 2014 seek manufacturing, subcontracting,
machining, R and D, logistics and transport partnerships with India. Jean Peytregnet, Consul General of France in Mumbai said, “I am glad to participate in this event which marks the end of the various roadshows which the French state of La Moselle has been organising in India, in order to promote a business event which will be organised in December in Metz, its capital city.” Peytregnet confirmed that the interest for the Indian market is very high in France. The French compa-
nies know that the Indian market has a lot of potential. Last year the French agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade called Ubifrance organised altogether more than 300 business meetings between French and Indian companies in India. “But of course the main reason why you will fly to Metz is to participate in the business meeting which will be organised there during EITS, which stands for 'Euro India Technology Sourcing & Business Opportunities'. I am confident that this will be a good occasion for you to find new business connections in France and in Europe,” he said. Vijay Kalantri, President, All India Association of Industries and ViceChairman, MVIRDC World Trade Centre said that the USD 2 trillion Indian economy intends to prosper to USD 5 trillion in the years to come. It is imperative that India join hands with its global counterparts in this pursuit. The EITS 2014 being hosted in France lays special emphasis on technological upgradation. “Technology is the need of the hour given the 'Make in India' campaign being proposed by PM Modi. India can take learning lessons from France in technology towards improving its manufacturing, logistics and infrastructural status. We perceive more than 100 Indian delegates will participate in the conference and benefit from the discussions and debates on technological innovation,” he said. Rupa Naik, Executive Director, All India Association of Industries and Director-Projects, MVIRDC World Trade Centre proposed the vote of thanks.

So this was like a trade-off that paid off well,” said this British national who is a banker currently working in Chennai. George who has been treated by Dr Paresh Doshi, Director of Neurosurgery at Jaslok Hospital and Research centre for Intractable Occipital headache, had been suffering from intractable headaches at the back of the neck for more than a year. The pain was continuous day in and day out and started affecting his daily activities and life. Initially, he was treated in UK for occipital migraine, but he did not respond to any anti-migraine treatment and ended up having side effects to the medicines. He was then treated for occipital neuralgia headaches, to which he partially responded. He underwent right occipital nerve block by Dr Serge Nikolic at the London Bridge hospital in 2013 and this provided him with some relief for a couple of weeks. However, his pain returned. Neck posture training, administration of several other drugs and painkillers did give him relief but it was temporary and led to an in-

I then consulted Dr Doshi on September 26. Following several correspondences and a referral letter from my UK consultant I was offered ONS for my pain,” said George. “George came down to the hospital on October 28 and was evaluated by Dr Preeti Doshi, consultant Pain Physician at the Jaslok hospital. She confirmed the diagnosis and the indication for surgery. On October 30, he underwent the surgery. On October 31, we started the programing of his pacemaker. AAP volunteers holding up their trademark brooms in what can be effectively termed a ‘sweeping’ protest.
Saying it with brooms
The BJP workers – and some leaders too – are likely to sweep Delhi as part of their poll campaign. They are into the 'Swachch Bharat' programme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The AAP – along with its chief Arvind Kejriwal – has already started sweeping Delhi's dirty streets. By wieilding the broom, they are sending a message to the voters. They would like to project the broom as their
party symbol. So in the next few weeks, there will be furious cleaning up of Delhi streets. When a group with long brooms appears before them, they will not be able to make out whether the sweepers belong to the BJP or AAP. It does not matter who wins Delhi's Assembly elections: Delhi's problems will remain the same. Delhi has a water and power shortage problem. There have been plans for getting
water from Yamuna. Nothing has been done in this regard. Delhi folks will be happy that their city will become a little more clean with workers of two political parties sweeping away – shouting slogans – with long brooms.

to the state leadership. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has already ruled out the possibility of a cabinet expansion before the inaugural three day session of the 13th Legislative Assembly on November 10. Sources in the BJP disclosed that the party could offer six cabinet rank and four ministers of state rank cabinet berths to the Sena. The party leadership has, however, decided to altogether do away with the
Deputy Chief Minister post. BJP sources further added that the party at best could offer one or two key ministries to the Sena to keep it in a good mood. It may be recalled that Uddhav Thackeray had remarked that the Sena was not in a hurry to join government. While his trusted aide Anil Desai, issuing a threat at the same time, argued that the talks were going on in an amicable atmosphere and this has left the Sena cadres confused.
n a bid to stem the rising tide of resignations in the party following its worst performance in the recent Assembly elections, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray yesterday issued a statement stating that he was accepting the resignations of all the party leaders and office bearers who had forwarded them to him since the elections were over. Commenting on the spate of resignations and party leaders contemplating joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Shiv Sena, he remarked that at least now he will come to know who all still support him. Sources in the MNS disclosed that Raj Thackeray has assured complete overhaul of the party organisation. Following the dismal performance of the MNS where its tally was reduced to just one as compared to the 13 MLAs in 2009, several prominent MNS leaders and ex-MLAs like Praveen Darekar and Vasant Geete had tendered their resignations to the party chief. On the eve of the Assembly elections, his trusted aide and president of his transport wing, Haji Arafat Shaikh had quit the party and joined the Sena. The MNS had fielded 231 candidates in the recent Assembly elections out of which 203 candidates could not even save their election deposits.

However if he fails and the price of the CNG doesn't decrease, we will go on a strike and the strike will continue till the prices are reduced.” The autorickshaw union, which joined the protest, also plans to approach the high court. Thampy Kurain, general secretary of the Autorickshaw Union, said, “Though we are supporting the protest, we ourselves will approach the Bombay High Court because the Supreme Court last year had directed the government not to increase the price of CNG in the state. The share percentage of ONGC and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) will remain the same.” The MGL, however, insists that the sit-
Raj Thackeray The first one to tender his resignation soon after the recent assembly elections was Praveen Darekar who lost the elections from Magathane constituency. That was followed by former MLA from Nashik Vasant Geete. Besides Geete, Nashik district office bearers Sachin Thakare, Sujata Dere and others too had tendered their resignations. The MNS suffered its worst poll debacle in its stronghold of Nashik. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) North Maharashtra unit president Vijay Sane claimed that Geete and his supporters from Nashik were in touch with the BJP. On the other hand the Shiv Sena also claimed that the MNS leaders from Nashik were in touch with the Sena as well.

Members of the Mumbai Taximen's Union led by leader A.L. Quadros protest against the price hike of CNG near Mahanagar Gas Ltd, at the BKC, on Monday. uation is not so bad. An MGL officer said, "Even after the revision of prices, CNG still costs about 60 per cent and 32 per cent less than petrol and diesel at the current price levels in Mumbai. However the taxi union had approached us and we will talk to the state government." The woes of the taxi drivers are many. Ramesh Jadhav (47), a taxi driver who took part in the protest said, “The income of taxi drivers is anyway less. After the fare hike we were happy but now
this increase in the CNG has increased our troubles.” The taxi and auto fares were hiked by Rs 2, but this hike is of CNG by Rs 4.50 is more than double. “Situation is actually same for us,” continued Ramesh. “Now the much talked about fare hike is not even going to help us.” The increase in the prices of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) will effect 7 lakh Mumbaikars and the increase in the price of CNG will effect more than two lakh auto and taxi drivers.

Sitting for exams sans hall tickets By Yatin Ingle
A
shocking situation has been witnessed in the ongoing degree college board exams of the Mumbai University (MU). Though it is compulsory to carry the hall ticket to appear for University board exams, MU students are appearing for the exams without the hall tickets. The University and the colleges have been blaming each other for the delay in issuing of hall tickets to the students. This situation has raised a risk to the rules and regulations of the MU itself as well as posed a risk to the careers of the students. As per the Maharastra University Act 1994, it is compulsory for a University to issue the hall tickets for final year board exams. A student will be permitted to appear for the exams only if the student has his hall ticket. As a matter of procedure, the examiner or the supervisor of the exams has to check the hall tickets and only then issue the answer-sheets to students. Strictly, a student will not be allowed for the exams without a hall ticket! On October 27, the management course fifth semester board exams of the MU began. As the exams started, several students were without hall tickets. It was soon that these students reported the issue to
the senate members of the University whilst stating their grievances. Sudhakar Tamboli, senate member, MU noted, “As the examination started, several students complained that the college did not issue them hall tickets. When they inquired from the University, they were informed that the college had delayed in submitting the examination forms of the students leading to a delay in issuing hall tickets. This is a result of irresponsibility of the MU's examination department to keep a track of the colleges. This blamegame between college and students had put the students exams under the scanner. Finally, we senate members asked the exam controller to allow the students without hall-tickets for exams. This is a severe issue which has been neglected by the Vice-Chancellor, putting the students at risk”. Last year, the MU had also failed in the declaration of degree college results. The University declared the results four months after the examinations had ended. The ADC, had a talk with Dr Dinesh Bhonde, Controller of Examination, MU, who said “The issue was informed by the senate members and only 11 students had not got hall tickets. The University cares about the students and it does not want them to suffer for the faults of their colleges We have allowed them for the exams. On the other hand, the colleges who have delayed in submitting exam forms to the University received the hall ticket late.”

521 banners pulled down in October By Khushboo Panjabi
E
ven as the election code of conduct was in force in October along with the festive mode due to which the entire city was decorated with political banners and posters greeting people, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) managed to remove 521 illegal banners of which 127 were political. In September, the civic body pulled down 3,628 illegal banners, posters and boards wherein R-central, M-
east and L-wards saw the maximum number of unauthorised hoardings. An official from the BMC's license department said, “There were 143 religious banners and 10 commercial hoardings. The delay in removal of banners is because of many officials on election duty as well as Diwali holidays.” The official also added, “The removal of banners has begun at the ward level and a corresponding complaint will be filed in the respective po-
lice stations which fall under the ward.” Last year, the High Court had stressed on the display of illegal posters and banners defacing the city and had directed the BMC to remove all the posters, and levy fines against those who had put up the posters. The BMC had then framed a policy in September 2013, which stated that no political, individual posters or banners will be allowed. Only banners of size 10x10 feet can be put up at the place of a rally on the day
it is being held.
Punishments: Under Section 328 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, 1888, the fine for displaying illegal banners, hoardings or posters is Rs 1,000-5,000 depending on the size of the displayed material. Also, under Section 3 of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1995, lawbreakers can be fined up to Rs 2,000 or be imprisoned for three months, or both.

Kolkata port on high alert Continued from pg 1 « Saeed too is planning to carry out a major terror attack in the Valley ahead of the assembly elections. J&K will go to polls in five phase starting from November 25. Results will be declared on December 23. IB sources informed that Saeed has support from Pakistani army and ISI and may target politicians attending election rallies across the state. Here it can be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has been scheduled to hold eight rallies in the state from Monday, November 10. Meanwhile in another development, two Navy warships, which were
scheduled to be berthed at Khidderpore dock here till November 7 for public visits, were withdrawn to the sea for undisclosed 'operational reasons,' a Defence Ministry official said on Tuesday. The recall of warships INS Khukri and INS Sumitra came in the backdrop of an alert by central intelligence agencies to the Kolkata police about the possibility of a terror attack in the city, especially in the port area. Asked whether the recall of ships is due to the terror alert by central intelligence agencies, Defence CPRO Group Captain T.K. Singha said "no, it has nothing to do with any terror alert. The recall of ships is strictly due to operational reasons."

‘Fake’ Konkan Rly interview call-up to four candidates

U
nscrupulous agents, aiming to make a quick buck, issued four 'fake' letters to aspiring Konkan Railway (KR) candidates. As a result of this, the four candidates turned up for an interview forcing the Konkan Railway to start an inquiry in the matter, who further appealed to the public not to fall prey to such offers in the future. On Monday, even as KR officials were busy in the process of conducting medical check ups of aspiring can-
didates for some posts, out of the blue four candidates landed with call up letters for interview and document verification appointments. The letters they came with were very similar to KR official letterheads except for some spelling mistakes and incor-
rect contact numbers. KR a comparatively young railway as compared to other railways, is presently on a recruitment drive for various posts. After due verification it was realised, that these four letters were not authentic. A spot of browbeating of the four candidates with 'fake' letters then ensued, even as the candidates then admitted that they had come in contact with some people who introduced themselves as KR officials and promised to provide jobs against some bribe. After paying first install-
ment of the so-called bribe amount, they then got these letters for oral interview and document verifications. KR Chief Public Relation Officer Vaishali Patange said, “It has come to light that some unscrupulous elements are misleading general public by issuing letters for Oral Interview/Document Verification for appointment in KR and demanding and accepting money for the same.” She added, “General public is hereby cautioned to beware of such unscrupulous elements and should not fall prey to their deceitful ways.”

Three new zones in Mumbai? By Neel Shah
T
he Mumbai police could soon see a major zone change in the city, as a proposal has been submitted to increase three zones in city's commiserate. If the proposal is passed, then this will be the first major change in the city's police department after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took over the state government. The proposal is currently in the initial stages, as it has been only submitted to Joint Commisisoner of Police (administration), who will then prepare a report and to submit to his higher-ups and other concerned authorities, said sources in the police department. Confirming the submission of the proposal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (detection) Dhananjay Kulkarni said, “Such a proposal has been submitted but giving any details about it would be premature.” There are 12 zones in city headed by the DCPs who report to the regional additional commissioners. The DCP of each zone has to look after eight police stations or more. Considering the geographical conditions of the city, the total number of police stations, its law and order problems, traffic
problems and population, some former senior officers, along with the incumbent officers, came out with the plans to increase the zones in city. This would enable smooth functioning by DCPs and each zone will get an equal number of police stations, unlike now where the police stations are divided unequally, said a highly placed source in police force. The newly formed zones will be Zone 13, Zone 14 and Zone 15. Subsequently the commiserate will have a total of 16 zones in total for policing. neel.shah@afternoondc.in
Expansion in new zonal format
T
he city police force is currently divided into five regions – South, Central, Eastern, Western and North. Each region has few zones under it headed by the DCPs. Under every zone there are eight or more police stations. If the new zones are formed, then every zone will have six police stations under it except for zone IV and zone XII, which will have seven.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 am on Monday when her grandmother sent her to collect the rent.“When the victim went to the shop, she found that the accused’s wife was sitting there and her husband was at home. So she went to his home which is adjacent to the shop. The accused was alone and he removed the victim’s clothes inside the house and touched her inappropriately,” said a police officer. The victim got scared and she started crying. After returning home she narrated the incident to her grandmother. The little girl also told her parents that her neighbour had done the same thing to her on Eid. The parents then approached the DN Nagar police station and registered case against both suspects.
“Following the statement given by victim we immediately arrested both the men on charges of molestation and several other relevant sections,” said R Patil, inspector at DN Nagar police station.

Fresh elections in Delhi W
HY did they wait for over eight months to form the new government in Delhi? What were they waiting for? When the Aam AadmiCongress coalition collapsed, they all seemed to have sat back and relaxed. No effort was made by any party to form a government. The Lok Sabha elections took place soon after and both the AAP and the BJP appear to have forgotten about Delhi. The governor sat tight and did nothing. Maybe he was asked to do that by the UPA government in Delhi and when the BJP came into power, it also seemed to have forgotten about forming a government in Delhi. Now all the three parties want elections. The governor has recommended the holding of elections and the Central cabinet has given its nod. They now want the elections to be held along with those of Jharkhand and Kashmir. Pre-poll prediction points to only one party as the victor: BJP. When the AAP began its first poll campaign, it attracted a lot of interest but that has now disappeared. AAP’s chief Arvind Kejriwal is no longer as popular as he was. In a brief while when in power in Delhi, he had a chance to prove he could deliver. He has however failed. How low is the standing of the AAP now can be seen from the fact that it could not even get one seat in the Lok Sabha elections. To suggest that Modi magic which has worked all over the country will fail in Delhi would be totally incorrect. Both the Congress and the AAP are likely to be trounced.

T’S time Sonia Gandhi reads the writing on the wall. Her party is crumbling but there seems to be a curious lack of urgency on her part and that of her son Rahul to stem the rot. The latest blow to the mother-son duo came from Tamil Nadu where former minister G K Vasan resigned from the Congress to revive his father G K Moopanar’s defunct regional outfit, Tamil Maanila Congress. The immediate catalyst for Vasan’s revolt may have been a purely local power tussle. He was upset because his loyalist B S Gnanadesikan was replaced as president of the Tamil Nadu Congress unit by a Chidambaram acolyte, EVKS Elangovan. But the damage to the party is huge. Not only has he taken with him several sitting and former Congress MLAs, he claims to have the support of a majority of district chiefs in the state. His exit therefore amounts to a split that has left the Congress severely depleted of grassroots leaders. What should be worrying Sonia is this: Vasan’s exit is not just an isolated case in a state where the Congress has anyway been on the margins of Dravidian dominated politics. Actually, the former union minister is the latest in a line of Congress stalwarts who have walked out of the party following its near total rout in the Lok Sabha polls. They include Jagdambika Pal in UP, Rao Inderjit Singh and Chaudhry Birendra Singh in Haryana, Lal Singh and Mangat Ram in J&K and a host of smaller local leaders in Maharashtra. Public comments coming from senior leaders like P Chidambaram and Digvijaya Singh indicate a steady erosion of faith in the Gandhis. Few in the Congress believe that the mother and son duo can revive the party’s fortunes after the Lok Sabha debacle followed by the routs in Maharashtra and Haryana. Unless Sonia and Rahul transform themselves, Vasan’s exit could trigger off an exodus from the Congress across states. The grand old party of Indian politics would then well and truly slide into irrelevance.
the campaign against black money. Modi was left with no option but to make the return of black money an election promise. Now that they are in power, both Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley realise that they are caught in a tricky situation. The evasive statements to the Supreme Court are a dead giveaway that the government is trying to wriggle out of a promise it knows it cannot fulfill. But BJP circles believe that the Gurumurthy-Jethmalani-Swamy trio will not rest till there’s action against certain Congress leaders. They are watching the tussle with bated breath.

After the task force submitted its report to the BJP, it was Jethmalani who went to the Supreme Court to demand action by the UPA government. The SIT investigating the matter was set up at his instigation. And now Swamy has joined the battle. Narendra Modi probably would not have fallen into their trap but for Ramdev. He desperately needed the yoga guru’s endorsement during the 2014 election campaign. But under the influence of the trio, Ramdev refused to oblige Modi unless he agreed to join

Life is a puzzle, bewilderment and a miracle HE law of the mystic is the understanding of the law. The average man says, 'This person has got the better of me. I will show him!' The mystic's outlook is different. He believes that no one can get away with anything in this world without paying for it. For every gain, the food one eats, every drop one drinks, every breath of air one takes, there is a tax to be paid. One is continually paying, and yet one does not know it. This shows that behind it all there is a perfect justice working. One cannot get the slightest comfort and pleasure without having to pay for it, and every pain has its own reward, though few seem to realize this. Therefore, behind all this falsehood and injustice, we see that there is a perfect wisdom working continually day and night. The mystic sees it in everything with open eyes; and that is the great miracle. For in the first place, his life is a puzzle; in the second place a bewilderment; and in the third place a miracle. It is a puzzle when the law is not understood, a very interesting puzzle. There is no better game than to be occupied with that puzzle, to try to understand it, to solve it. It is so interesting that there is no sport or game that can be compared with it. It is a bewilderment because of the difference between the way everybody looks at life and how it is in reality. There comes a stage when a person says,

It was Gu- against bureaucrats thought to be close to the rumurthy who flagged the issue on the eve of UPA. This section had targeted three senior
T
officials: cabinet secretary Ajit Seth, home secretary Anil Goswami and Mayaram. There was a whisper campaign that all three were UPA appointees and should be removed because their loyalty was suspect. The fact that all three are competent officers didn’t seem to matter. Well, Mayaram fell first. He was shifted to the tourism ministry, which was quite a comedown after being finance secretary. But worse was to follow. Before he could even take charge, he was transferred again, this time to the ministry for minority affairs. Now how inconsequential is that! It seems that the Modi government made him a scapegoat to silence BJP whispers accusing it of being soft on the UPA, not just its policies but its appointees as well. Mayaram was vulnerable because he has a full year of service left. Seth retires by the end of this year after a sixmonth extension. So he may escape Mayaram’s humiliation. But babudom is waiting to see what happens to Goswami. The home secretary will retire next January in the normal course but because the job has a fixed tenure of two years, the government may be forced to retain him for one more year.
'Either they are all mad, or I am mad; but someone must be mad!' The mystic can see from the point of view of everyone else, as well as from his own, which may be quite the contrary. For instance, in his teachings, Christ says, 'If anyone asks you for your coat, give him your overcoat, also.' A worldly man will say, 'It is not practical; if someone asked this of me every day, I
MATTER & SPIRIT would be continually buying new coats!' Yet, at the same time, it is more than practical from the point of view of the Master. For, according to his view, we cannot give anything, in whatever form, without getting it back in some way or other. Pure thought, good will, our service, our time, whatever we give, is never lost. It comes back to us according to our willingness to give, it comes back to us a thousandfold. That is why one is never the loser by being generous; one only gains. The mystic sees the law in all things, and this gives him an insight into life. He begins to see why this misery has come upon him, why that pleasure has come; why one person is prospering and another not, why one is progressing and not another. All these things become clear to him because he sees the law
P
UNJAB Congress leaders are upset with the way Rahul Gandhi cold shouldered them in Chandigarh recently. State unit leaders, down to the district level, were called to Chandigarh supposedly to brainstorm about the party’s election defeat and preparations for the 2017 Assembly polls. But Rahul spent just about 15 minutes with them, most of which went in eating lunch. He barely spoke to anyone during the meal and after it was over, he addressed them for exactly three and a half minutes, said one leader who was timing the speech. Rahul left without taking questions or asking for comments. The snub by the Gandhi scion was particularly galling because on the same day, he had two other interactions at which he spent much more time. One was with university students, where he spent over an hour. The other was with farmers with whom he spent 45 minutes. It would seem that Rahul doesn’t like his party much. working in all things. The law of the mystic is not the law of the people. It is the law of nature; it is the real law. A mystic never restricts himself to a certain rule, such as a rule of celibacy, although for certain experiences, celibacy is of great importance. However, if it is necessary for him to fast, practice celibacy, live on a vegetarian diet or stay in a remote place in seclusion, or any other such thing, he can prescribe it for himself and benefit from it. But one cannot say a mystic must do this or that, or that he must live a certain life. Solomon, with his kingdom and all his grandeur, was as great a mystic and as wise a man as many hermits in the forest. One cannot judge a mystic by his appearance. If he is a real mystic, he will be a king, whether he is in the midst of the treasures of a court, or sitting clad in a ragged mantle. He is a king, just the same, wherever he is. Neither money, nor a court, nor life in the world, can take away his kingship from him. If he chooses to live in solitude, it is his own affair. If he wishes to be in the crowd, he may just as well be there. Whether a person sits in a remote place in the forest or in a baker's shop, if he is thinking of a high ideal, his surroundings cannot touch him; he does not see them. There is no aspect of life that can deprive a mystic of his mystical spirit. He may be rich or poor, in the midst of the world or away from everything, but he is a mystic, just the same. — Hazrat Inayat Khan

BCCI’s obsession with the foreigners SACHIN Tendulkar is right in his comments in the soon-to-bereleased autobiography on the cantankerous coach Greg Chappel. Greg Chappel is the shining example of a bad boss whose misuse of authority and divide and rule policy contributed to our many losses and team disharmony. Coach Chappel should learn from Gary Kirsten and John Wright on how to manage people. If only Sachin had brought out these facts then, Greg Chappel would have been shown the door much earlier and the performance of our players would be upheld without sliding. According to the ACB, the complainant had approached the local Tehsil office in Bhayandar (W) to make a mutation entry in his relative’s name into the 7/12 extracts of the records related to a land in Murdha village. The aggrieved complainant who had already paid Rs 5,000 as the first installment, lodged a complaint with the ACB unit. Subsequently a trap was laid and Patange was caught red handed while accepting Rs 10,000 at the Tehsil office located in the ground floor of the Civic Community Hall (Nagar Bhavan) in Bhayandar (W) at about 3.40 pm on Monday. Patange has been booked under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigations are on.

job is to sell the products or services offered by the company to the target customers. Considering these factors, a career in franchise has huge potential. Franchising is very similar to setting up a new business and has a lot of advantages attached to it. It gives exposure to good products in different cities and also gives exposure to different brands. It encourages entrepreneurship in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. It is a trend which is growing, bearing in mind the clutter of brands and expensive marketing. Besides, it is not very difficult to sell the products or services
as it has the advantage of an already established brand name. However, there are certain essential aspects to be considered for taking up a franchise like the risk-taking ability, execution and planning, ability to sustain the business, funds, ability to show transparency in operations to maintain long term relationship with the franchisor, acceptance and adaptability for IT system and being open to ideas of growing on the regional level ie multiple stores. Although India has a huge potential for aspiring entrepreneurs, the lack of resources, ortho-
dox notions and the risk factors are creating hurdles in the way of budding entrepreneurs. The Government of India is taking initiatives to counter these problems and one of them is to promote 'Entrepreneurial Development' in the country. The government is supporting budding entrepreneurs through cheaper loans, trainings and subsided start-up costs etc. However, not everyone can enjoy the benefits of these facilities. It can be availed only by those aspirants with strong financial background. Only a certain strata of the society can afford to bear the finan-

commissions. It is basically a direct selling concept which has been enhanced to suit the entrepreneurial streak of the youth today. Through this opportunity, prospective entrepreneurs could take up the sales franchise of the products or services of a particular brand, leveraging the corporate support services of the brand. This way they could not only find more ways to sell but could also make a handsome amount of money as compared to a salaried counterpart. Apart from the high earning potential, what makes this career opportunity more attractive is the fact that as a broker associate or marketing franchisee, one commands the status of a company representative and not just a neighbourhood sales agent. These opportunities are ideal for people who would like to make a low-risk transition from a job to a business complemented with a solid learning curve. This is an ideal platform for those aspirants who would like to take-up a guided route towards entrepreneurship and selfdependence. They have minimum investment potential and are ideal if you want to succeed by becoming the representative of a global brand. Besides there are a lot things to be con-
sidered about the Indian market before taking a plunge into the world of entrepreneurs. For example, if a person is taking up a franchise, he should give his 100 per cent and not take it up as a side business. Usually, people who take it up as a whole sole business activity end up being more successful as compared to people who take this up as a side business. People who take this up as a side business lose more money. Being a developing country, India has a lot of potential in ‘franchising’, however at present the proportion of people in service sectors is higher than people in business. Education requirements depend on the type of business – certain knowledge or training programmes could be of great help in this case. There are various sectors in which one can open up their franchise in India. In the small scale industry, it is the food and apparel sectors, in the big scale industry scenario – it is the school, hotel and hospitality sectors. The other kind of franchising includes distribution of outside products. When it comes to franchising of schools and educational institutions, a lot of planning and strategy goes behind it. One has to carefully select the franchisee in terms of their educational back-
ground check and the school qualification. Local understanding of the market is also equally important. It is also required to ensure 100 per cent commitment from the person who is taking the franchise and full support in terms of IT, infrastructure, necessary facilities, and equipment to match the set standards of excellence in education that the educational franchisors maintain in all their branches. Therefore, for smooth running of the business, strong financial background is very important to support the initial phase. The focus of the organisation should not only be to train the best minds but also help average students to qualify in exams with flying colours. For this, it is mandatory to ensure quality teaching in all subjects in every centre. India is catching up with franchising fever now. The systems and processes required to ideate, promote and implement a successful franchising business is still in its nascent stages, but it is growing at a faster rate. With hoards of products and services in the offering, today's consumers want a tried, tested and trusted brand which is where franchising comes in to action. With budding, aware, well-read entrepreneurs in all parts of the country, the demand for setting up franchising of an established franchise is increasing.

“College life helped me to open up and become confident,” says actress Nalini Negi who is playing the title role of Trisha in Laut Aao Trisha on Life OK
I
have just completed my Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) from Swami Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies. Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies grants the degrees of Bachelor in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC), Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA), and Bachelor of Laws (Honors) (LLB). So every floor is granted to every course and students of respective course would occupy their corners in the building. We BJMC students used to hardly interact with the LLB students as we were freshers and they were in college since three to four years. Also the allotments of different floors to the courses never gave us an opportunity to interact with them. On the first day of college I was super excited like any young girl wanting to look my best with the best clothes, bags, hairstyles, shoes and accessories. I bought these new accessories to wear to college and was so confused what to wear. I was ragged, but it was just a causal one. I entered from the mid-session so everyone was new to me. I hardly knew 10 people. It was during the break that my classmates came and asked me my hobbies – basically just a casual interview. Then one of my seniors asked me to dance. I was conscious and reluctant to dance. I was already into modelling so I mentioned that see I get paid for every walk and this incident made me look like I’m snobbish which I’m not. But it did make me a popular girl in college. My dad knew my course director and the HOD. All my teachers were good for each and every subject. I was never regular in college but before exam I used to study hard during that week and appear for my exams. So I am a last moment student but when it comes to studies I have never taken them lightly. I travelled to college by car. I was dropped by my dad’s driver who waited in college till my lectures were over and then drove me back home so that I don’t do any masti after college hours. My overall college life was good but I was from Delhi and used to never like the west Delhi crowd. All south Delhities can understand my feeling. People from east Delhi and
« ALUMNI SPEAK
west Delhi are much more reserved than South Delhities. The college was a professional one with all entrance tests and the best teachers, and the students were chosen on merit and they came from different parts of India. Our standards didn’t really match when it came to dressing sense or level of conversations. There are lots of places I used to love to hang around at with some of my friends like Urban Cafe, Chonas, Khan Market etc. Food in these places is very good. I loved hookah and have done a lot of clubbing and partying. However my friend circle was way better outside college than in college. As I mentioned I wasn’t really happy with the crowd in college so I had just three to four close friends out of which I’m in touch with three friends because they are in the media line too. But it’s shocking how people change because my batch mates who hardly mingled with me started inviting me on Facebook and texting me about my show Laut Aao Trisha. I want to share some sort of miscommunication that’s really funny. It was an institute shoot so one of those girls there became a really good friend of mine. On our way back home we were discussing our boyfriends and she said her boyfriend is Sumit and what a coincidence my boyfriend's name is also Sumit. She described Sumit and what a shock he sounded just like my boyfriend. I panicked and called up my guy and yelled at him. He took it lightly. Then suddenly she asked me if my boyfriend's surname was Khocha and I said “No! He’s Chauhan!” (we laughed). My dad used to keep a check via the driver. But I used to bunk lectures and sit in the canteen for hours simply because our classrooms were very professional and we had 40 minute lectures. Now this day arrived when the list was put up for attendance. I had full setting with the accountant who kept a record of attendance so I easily sneaked out from the attendance issue but my classmates knew I hadn’t attended lectures so the matter fuelled up. One day, our course director noticed me chit chatting during lecture hours in the canteen with LLB and BCA students. He called me and asked to get my parents. I made an excuse saying that my parents were not in town. Next day when dad dropped me everything was fine and suddenly I got a call during our break time from the Director’s office and I see my dad sitting there. It was then I came to know that my dad’s PA is a very dear friend of my director. This is one of my memorable college memories. My education has definitely helped me. My course has helped me in my career. BJMC has helped me to open up and become confident to talk to people and communicate well with them. It has taught me to outgrow and transform myself into a better personality. Also studies help you all through your life. If the TV industry doesn’t work out well I can always have an opportunity to work in other fields.

Academic politics exists everywhere, and Indians may suffer from occasional discrimination abroad, but overall academic conditions are likely to be better than at home. Step toward emigration Finally, studying abroad is often seen as the first step toward emigration. Of course, few students will admit this, but statistics show that a very large proportion of students from India — and also from China, South Korea and other Asian countries — choose to stay in the US following the completion of doctoral degrees. I must have visited the university at least 25 times. Whenever I went there, I was asked to meet differnt people every time. The peons there are ever ready to be bribed Rs 750 per transcript. The other thing that freaks me out about the place is that the examination dates for our finals have changed more than three times already, with a change in the duration allotted to write the paper as well. I mean, why are they treating the students like this? We are the future of India and we should be understood and not disregarded like this. y college has the most pathetic cafeteria, where they serve garbage. This why health has always been a concern here. In a recent survey conducted by students in our college we found some horrifying facts which were hard to digest, just like the food we are served. Since we are in the organising body of most of the happenings in the college, techinally speaking, the college is our second home. We starve and finally have to go outside the college to get some decent vada pav. It is important to keep in mind that we are students and our appetite is quite good. We can’t survive on this kind of junk and who carries a dabba from home anymore? We barely get time for ourselves even. We have many times tried putting a word across to the management but it doesn’t work in our favour. We have spoken to various media but we really haven’t been able to do much about this issue. It is also very important to know that my college doesn’t have the high-flying, flawless crowd, as is common perception. I would say about 75 per cent of Ruia’s crowd belongs to the lower middle or middle classes and hence it becomes very difficult for us to purchase such bad quality food at such expensive prices. We wouldn't mind paying more if our basic requirements are taken care of.

Free webinar: how candidates benefit from computer-based testing P
earson VUE is offering a free interactive workshop exploring the different levels of convenience offered by computer-based testing (CBT) for exam candidates to reduce exam-taker anxiety and help maximise performance. Computer-based testing (CBT) now offers distinct advantages over the traditional 2000-year-old testing model where huge groups of candidates gather in an exam hall on a particular day for a pen and paper-based test. The advent of CBT in India means that busy professionals who do not have the time to travel to a city centre on a particular day can now book their exam online within a test window on a particular day that suits them within a range of dates, or even
on-demand where they can choose any date. Exams can be booked at local test centres outside cities with CBT, providing greater geographic reach for candidates who would previously have had to travel at their own expense to take the test. A free webinar hosted by experts from global CBT leader Pearson VUE will explore candidate convenience considerations. Divyalok Sharma, director of client development at Pearson VUE, said: “CBT can offer a flexible solution for both the test taker and the test sponsor and it also means less anxiety for candidates because they can easily book and re-book their tests. There are some misconceptions that we are
keen to dispel. For example, just because a company provides CBT exams, that does not necessarily mean they offer the level of candidate convenience Pearson VUE does in terms of providing ondemand testing at local centres. “This webinar provides an opportunity to analyse how and why candidate convenience is an increasing priority within the industry and how this has been successfully implemented around the world to provide a more flexible service.” Pearson VUE will be hosting a free webinar, Making the mark: How candidate convenience can improve your testing success, on November 26 at 4.30 pm. The contest is open till May 31, students can sign up anytime before the end date and participate in the contest. The results will be declared formally by June 15. The test is loaded with amazing rewards to motivate students to give their best.

CBI arrests BJD MP, 2 ex-MLAs in chit fund scam case N
EW DELHI: BJD Lok Sabha MP Ramchandra Hansdah and two former MLAs were yesterday arrested by the CBI in connection with a chit fund scam case – an offshoot of Saradha scam – for allegedly duping thousands of investors through a company founded by them. The agency arrested Hansdah, MP from Mayurbhanj in Odisha, along with Subarna Naik – former MLA of BJD and Hitesh Kumar Bagartti – former BJP MLA in connection with the scam. criminal conspiracy, cheating and diversion of funds. The agency had on October 26 arrested the CMD of the ponzi company, Anjan Baliarsing, and directors Pradeep Patnaik and Kartik Parida in connection with a case registered against the company. Nabadiganta Capital Services is one of the 44 companies under the scanner of the investigating agency for its alleged involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam in Odisha. Information Technology spending by banking and financial securities firms is expected to grow by over 10 per cent to Rs 469 billion or around Rs 47,000 crore this year, research firm Gartner said yesterday. “Indian banking and securities companies will spend 469 billion rupees on IT products and services in 2014, increase of more than 10 per cent over 2013 revenue of 427 billion rupees,” Gartner said in a statement. More Reforms Expected Consumption related stocks can be bought at declines By Dipen Shah
T
he Indian markets witnessed healthy gains during the month and touched life-time highs. The rise was led by the reforms initiatives taken by the Government, coupled with further fall in the brent crude prices. Sentiment was also buoyed by indications from US Fed to keep interest rates low for a considerable period of time.
MARKET VIEW Better-than-expected GDP growth numbers in US / China and easing of monetary policy from Japan also added to market optimism. On the domestic economic front, IIP slumped further in the month of August but, is expected to bounce back in the near future. On the other hand, CPI inflation for September eased to 6.5%

uoyed by robust stock market sentiment, the small-cap and mid-cap indices of the BSE have rallied by up to 56 %, outperforming the larger Sensex this fiscal. T h e small-cap index of the BSE has given a return of 55.86 %, followed by mid-cap index with 40.29 % gain.
On the other hand, gain in the blue-chip index Sensex has been at 24.11 % from April 1 till date, an analysis of the three indices showed. The Sensex touched its alltime high of 27,969.82 on Monday. The mid-cap index touched its one-year peak of 10,068.63 on September 16 and the small-cap index hit its 52-week high of 11,352.01 on
the same day. Experts say “when the markets perform well, smaller stocks make big gains than the front-lines. But during the times of uncertainty, greater losses are seen in mid and small-cap scrips. Analysts said bullish investor sentiment following a new government at the Centre and robust foreign fund inflows have

he country's largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India, has launched the new generation of its small car Alto K10 that comes equipped with automated gear shift and is priced up to Rs 3.82 lakh. With an eye on reviving growth in its bread and butter mini car segment, the company has also improved the fuel efficiency of the model by 15%. The manual petrol variants of the new Alto K10 are priced between Rs 3.06 lakh and Rs 3.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the newly introduced CNG version is tagged at Rs 3.82 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). The auto gear shift variant of the car with petrol engine is priced at Rs 3.80 lakh.
CCI on October31st on information jointly filed by Indian Sugar Mills Association, National Federation of Co-operative Sugar Factories Ltd. and All India Flat Tape Manufacturers Association alleging anti-competitive agreement by the members of IJMA and GTA in fixation of sale price of jute packaging material by issuing of Daily Price Bulletin (DPB) by GTA for jute bags for the members of IJMA and the GTA to follow. The Commission found the impugned acts/conduct of IJMA and GTA to be in contravention of the provisions of the Act. Apart from issuing a cease and desist order against the associations and imposing penalties upon them, the Commission also imposed penalties on the persons who were members of the Executive Committee of IJMA and the Executive Committee and the DPB Sub-Committee of GTA @ 5% of the average income of the last three financial years. The Commission also noted in the order the provisions of the Jute Packaging Materials (Compulsory Use in Packaging Commodities) Act, 1987 placing statutory requirement on the sugar mills to undertake sugar packaging using jute bags only, against the principle of competitive neutrality as the entities manufacturing matching products were denied market access. Such a policy was further noted as not only restricting the choice of customers
like sugar mills but was also potentially found to be escalating the cost ultimately borne by the end-consumers. Accordingly, the Commission has advised the Government to re-assess the current market situation for removing the market distortions arising out of such policy.
been fueling rally in the domestic equity markets”. Since the beginning of this year, overseas investors have infused a net amount of Rs 82,266 crore (USD 13.7 billion) into the equities, while they invested a net of Rs 1.36 lakh crore into the debt market (USD 22.5 billion) taking the total to Rs 2.18 lakh crore (USD 36 billion). Retail investors are major participants in mid-cap and small-cap stocks and their activity in this segment has been upbeat over the past few months. Market players say smaller stocks are generally bought by local investors, while overseas investors focus on bluechip shares. The mid-cap index tracks companies with a market value that is on an average one-fifth of blue-chips or large firms. Smallcap firms are almost a tenth of that.
against 7.8% on a month-onmonth basis. Core CPI inflation also fell to 6%. We believe decline seen in IIP and fall in the crude prices should help in containing inflation expectations. There is strong dis-inflationary pressure and further monetary policy tightening may not be needed. In the near term, focus will consistently remain on further reform initiatives. Winter session of the Parliament will be closely watched for GST, land reforms, etc. Economic growth in China/Eurozone will engage the attention of the market. The remaining quarterly results will have stock-specific impact. Valuations are at around the long-term average of 15.5x oneyear forward consensus earnings (FY16). We believe that, affirmative action on reforms by the Government will be needed for maintaining confidence in the markets. This will, in turn, lead to a further rerating of the markets in the medium-to-long term. We expect further reforms by the Government and remain positive on the domestic infrastructure and cyclical sectors over the mediumto-long term. However, after the steep run-up in several of these stocks, we recommend sticking to quality and advise selectively investing in stocks having strong balance sheets and ethical managements. On the other hand, we are positive on select export oriented stocks based on improving demand scenario in developed economies like USA. Most of the consumption - related stocks can be bought at declines. We expect rupee to remain in a range. Key risks to our recommendation are geo-political concerns globally, decline in foreign inflows, sharp currency movements and spike in oil prices. CHAPPELL SURPRISED AT SACHIN’S CLAIMS M SPORTS
ELBOURNE: Former India coach Greg Chappell hit back at Sachin Tendulkar and rubbished the champion batsman's claim that he had made a "shocking" suggestion to him to take over India's captaincy from Rahul Dravid months before the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. Tendulkar has written in his autobiography 'Playing it My Way', due for release on Thursday, that the Australian visited his house months before the 2007 World Cup and tried to convince him to take over the captaincy from Dravid. But Chappell said he was stunned by the claims. "Whilst I don't propose to get into a war of words, I can state quite clearly that during my time as Indian coach I never contemplated Sachin replacing Rahul Dravid as captain," Chappell said in a statement. "I was therefore very surprised to read the claims made in the book. During those years, I only ever visited Sachin's home once, and that was with our physio and assistant coach during Sachin's rehabilita-
Chappell took Indian cricket backwards: Laxman N
EW DELHI: The volley of allegations against Greg Chappell continued with former India batsman VVS Laxman saying today that the Australian took "Indian cricket backwards" during his two-year tenure as the national cricket team's coach. "Chappell took Indian cricket backwards," Laxman said when asked to describe Chappell's tumultuous stint as coach from 2005 to 2007. Reacting to a series of startling allegations Sachin Tendulkar made in his autobiography Playing it my Way, Laxman said he totally believed in what the iconic batsman had written in his book. Tendulkar had mentioned that Chappell had threatened Laxman his career would be over after he refused to open in a Test match in India. "This happened in 2006 at the Wankhede Stadium when India played versus England. Yuvraj Singh was picked ahead of me. We were going to the West Indies for a four-Test series after that and he asked me if I would open. "I mentioned in 2000 I had decided I would not open anymore after it didn't work for me in the first four years. I was consistent in the middle order since 2000. Chappell asked me my age and
tion from injury, at least 12 months earlier than what was reported in the book," he said. Chappell said he enjoyed a pleasant afternoon at Tendulkar's home and the captaincy issue never came up for discussion. "We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon together but the subject of captaincy was never raised," Chappell added.
Whilst I don't propose to get into a war of words, I can state quite clearly that during my time as Indian coach I never contemplated Sachin replacing Rahul Dravid as captain. I was therefore very surprised to read the claims made in the book.
GREG CHAPPELL, FORMER INDIAN CRICKET COACH
In the book Tendulkar wrote that Chappell told him that together they could "control Indian cricket for years". "Together, we could control Indian cricket for years", the Australian told Tendulkar during a visit to his home when he offered to "help me in taking over the reins of the side" from Dravid, the master batsman writes in his autobiography.
29
Tendulkar said he was shocked by the suggestion and the lack of respect shown to Dravid by Chappell.
SOME PLAYERS SUPPLIED WRONG INFO TO CHAPPELL: BHAJJI Sachin Tendulkar's claims of Greg Chappell being a dictatorial coach seem to have opened a Pandora's box with his then teammate and senior off-spinner Harbhajan Singh saying that some players in the side provided "selective misinformation" to the Australian in a phase which "temporarily destroyed Indian cricket". "Chappell destroyed Indian cricket to such an extent that it required at least 3 years to again get back on track. The worst part was some players in that team, who sucked upto the coach and would supply selective misinformation creating bigger rifts," Harbhajan told PTI . Harbhajan also made another shocking claim that Chappell was writing an e-mail to the BCCI about erstwhile skipper Sourav Ganguly, when India were in the midst of a Test match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. "Sourav was batting out there in the middle and this man was typing a critical e-mail against Sourav, sitting right there in that dressing room. He had no interest in the proceedings of the match. How did I get to know, I was sitting next to him and had a suspicion.”

M said - Don't you think 31 is too young an age to sit at home? I was astonished to hear this. I had a very good run under him. I was the second highest run scorer under him," Laxman told NDTV. Laxman said the dressing room atmosphere in 2006 was the worst in Indian cricket. Tendulkar's scathing attack on Chappell today received the whole- hearted backing of his then teammates -- Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh besides Laxman -- even as the Australian hit back at the batting maestro's claim that he tried to topple Rahul Dravid as captain. Asked what policy India should adopt while selecting the coach, Laxman said, "As long as he is capable of and able to deliver, it doesn't matter whether he is an Indian or a foreigner."
UMBAI: It has been one of the most anticipated autobiographies for a very long time by a sportsperson and going by the excerpts released over the past few days, Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography, 'Playing it my way' has generated enough controversy prior to its official launch today. Tendulkar's book due to hit the stands on Thursday, mentioned about the coup Greg Chappell tried to initiate prior to the onset of the cricket World Cup to be held in the Caribbean Islands in 2007 by trying to oust Rahul Dravid from the captaincy's post and reinstating Sachin Tendulkar as the skipper. While this matter has been under wraps for the past seven years, only to make headlines on Monday, Rahul Dravid on Tuesday at a function refrained from making any comment from Tendulkar's latest offering. “It was a private conversation between two people and it is hard to make a comment on that and
Former India cricket skipper Rahul Dravid along with actors Krithi Sannon [C] and Arbaaz Khan at a promotional event in the city, yesterday. actually say what happened and what didn’t happen. It is for the two individuals to figure out what really happened. I really don’t want to make a comment on that conversation. I would like to read the book and it is unfair to make a comment without reading the book. If I do feel like something, then I will,” said Rahul Dravid at a function organised by Gillette in the city. The excerpts also mentions that Tendulkar suggested to the India cricket board to travel to the World Cup sans the coach. The Karnataka batsman also said that he had never heard anything regarding the
trip the former Indian coach made to Tendulkar's residence to persuade him to take up the mantle of captaincy. “I hadn’t heard of this conversation before, so it will be hard for me to make a comment for something which I haven’t heard off,” he said. “In what context Sachin mentioned, what has he said, it's hard to make a comment that you are hearing something from the media and getting snippets. So we will wait to see what the context was... I am not going to comment on every single thing that Tendulkar says. I don’t need to comment on what Tendulkar says,” he added.
CHAPPELL SAID I WON’T PLAY FOR INDIA UNDER HIM: ZAHEER

EW DELHI: India's premier speedster Zaheer Khan revealed that Greg Chappell had told him back in 2005 that the fast bowler "would never play for India" till the time he would remain at the helm and termed the period under the Australian as the "darkest phase of Indian cricket". "After he was appointed the coach of the Indian team, he once came upto me and told "Zaheer, you will not be playing for India till I remain the coach," Zaheer told PTI today completely backing the Sachin Tendulkar's revelations about the Australian's tenure in his upcoming autobiography 'Playing It My Way'. the coach came up and told him this, Zaheer laughed and said, "I was so taken aback that I couldn't react for some time. I was totally zapped. Like what do I do now? Do I revolt? Do I speak to the captain about what's happening? Do I take his comments at face value? Why is he taking it on me," the 36-year-old Zaheer said. Zaheer said that Chappell's two-year phase (2005-07) in Indian cricket was "easily the worst and darkest phase" that he could remember. "I understood one thing. This man had agendas and was getting personal. He had his set ideas and if you didn't fall in line, then you have to be prepared to fall by the wayside. He tried to finish my career but I believe I came back even stronger in South
Africa during the end of 2006," said the left-arm pacer, who has 311 Test and 282 ODI wickets in his 14year-international career. Zaheer didn't stop short of calling him a "control freak". "He had some issues with the senior guys in the team. He tried many ways to stop my comeback into Indian team during the phase when I was out of the team for nearly a year. I came to know later that everytime when my name was discussed, he (Chappell) would find means to delay my comeback by 3-4 months," added Zaheer. Zaheer said that it was a difficult phase but the primary challenge was to shed off the negativity and move on with work in hand. "I made a good comeback in South Africa as I decided to
put all the negativity that came as a package with Chappell behind me and perform. I didn't want to get insecure. "You have to understand one thing. A happy bunch wins you matches. We were not a happy bunch. It was a team where someone was using his personal likes and dislikes to control the environment," he added. After he came back, Chappell was there for another four months till the World Cup ended and Zaheer remembers that phase distinctly. "Well, we didn't have many interactions with him during that time but I could realise that I was winning the battle and he was fighting for a lost cause. Also, why only Indian cricketers, why don't you guys go and ask the current lot of Aussie cricketers about what exactly they feel about Chappell. I can bet that it won't be much different from what we are saying," said the highest wicket-taker during India's victorious 2011 campaign. He said that during India's triumphant 2008 home series against Australia (India won the 4-Test series 2-0), he was fired up seeing Chappell in the opposition dressing room. "Chappell had come as a consultant of Cricket Australia during that tour. I can say from a personal point of view that I was really fired up and gave it my all. The anger of that phase egged me on to do well and prove a point to Chappell," Zaheer concluded.

31 BCCI postpones selection meet as confusion reigns supreme
MUMBAI: In a mysterious turn of events, the national cricket selectors met here but did not select the team for the final two ODIs against Sri Lanka and the upcoming Australia tour, triggering speculation on the actual reason behind the postponement. A brief BCCI release only stated the postponement of the meet without giving a definite reason for not picking the squads.
However, BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel later told some waiting reporters that they wanted to see the performance of the team in the first three ODIs against Sri Lanka before finalising the squad. "Right now, only one match is over and we were thinking of involving the other seniors who are out or some of the juniors who are out but then we came to the conscious decision to wait for another two ODIs because for three games the team is already there," Patel said. "And this particular injury (Varun Aaron) required a replacement which we have decided. Who else can be tried, what is the performance of the team in the three ODIs, like Rohit is sitting out, he is fit. All these things will be considered," he added. Asked what the selectors discussed in the meeting, which lasted three hours, Patel said they zeroed in on many aspects. "Three hours we were discussing at length about every thing. What can be the combination for Australia. We have decided that only the Test team will be picked at some point. Either 9th or 10th after the Hyderabad game. We will also have to see if there needs to be any change for the remaining ODIs," Patel said. The sudden postponement raised speculation whether the Justice Mudgal Committee report had prompted the selectors not to announce the squad. However, Patel denied that it was a reason behind the postponement of the selection. "Mudgal Committee is a matter related to the honourable Supreme Court. First of all, we have not received the report. The matter is sub-judice. Selection committee's meeting has nothing to do with the Mudgal Committee report and we haven't been restrained by the court in that regard," he said.

UMBAI: Having returned to winning ways, Mumbai City FC would look to continue the momentum when they lock horns with the consistent Delhi Dynamos in an Indian Super League match at the D Y Patil Stadium here today. Both sides have registered six points in the five games they have played and it promises to be an evenlymatched contest. Klose strikes twice as Lazio up to third
MILAN: Miroslav Klose struck a brace in a 4-2 win over 10-man Cagliari as Lazio moved up to third place in Serie A and stretch their unbeaten run to six games. Cagliari have enjoyed a promising run including a 4-1 win away at Inter Milan since wily veteran Zdenek Zeman took over the Sardinians at the start of the season. However Lazio had won five of the sides' past six league meetings and after Victor Ibarbo saw red in the 72nd minute the hosts survived a brief, secondhalf fightback at the Olympic Stadium to claim their sixth win of the season yesterday. Lazio are six points adrift of leaders and defending champions Juventus but only three points behind city rivals Roma, who lost 2-0 to Napoli on Saturday. "I'm happy, because I've seen the fruit of the work we did leading up to the game," Lazio coach Stefano Pioli told Sky Sport. "I'm not looking at the league standings. We'll first do that in January. Our objective is to qualify for Europe, but it's a case of taking small steps and taking it game by game." Lazio's quickfire start was rewarded with a seventh-minute opener from captain Stefano Mauri, who bundled the ball past Alessio Cragno from close range as it ricocheted in the Cagliari box. It was far from pretty, but Klose made amends on 25 minutes when Germany's all-time record goalscorer fired past Cragno from close in after Senad Lulic had headed Antonio Candreva's cross into the 36-year-old German's path.
