he Dahisar Sri. Kashi Math, a unit of Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi will be hosting a grand day long ‘Pandharpur Festival’ in Mumbai to mark the celebration of Ashadi Ekadashi. Ashadi Ekadashii, is one of the key festivals of Maharashtra. Nearly 15 lakh devotees (or ‘Warkaris’ in local parlance) from various parts of the state visit Pandharpur town on foot every year to pay obeisance to Lord Vithoba. This year, the yatra culminates in Pandharpur on July 27, which marks the Ashadi Ekadashi celebration and the ‘Pandharpur Festival’ hosted by the Mandir will be held on the same day.

The GSB community of Mumbai has built the Sri. Vittal Rakhumai Mandir, under Dahisar Sri Kashi Math at Dahisar (East) as a token of gratitude towards Mumbai and Maharashtra since their lineage of 500 years existence. he Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd announced the release of a short animated film to highlight the problem of diabetes and obesity in society. Targeted at school children, this informative film will be screened in over 100 multiplexes and movie theatres across Mumbai.

The film was launched in the presence of Sanjay S Deshmukh Additional Commissioner (Western Surburbs), BMC, Dr. Avinash Supe - Dean of KEM Hospital, Sujesh Vasudevan - President, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Dr. Padmaja Keskar - Executive Health Officer, BMC and other dignitaries.

This initiative is a part of 'Swasthya Main Hai Swaad' campaign of BMC focusing on twin themes of healthy eating and exercise to keep diabetes away.

The animated informative film will be screened in the theatres from Friday, July 24 onwards. The timing of the film appears favourable with chartbusters like 'Baahubali' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' attracting huge crowds in the theatres.

aharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the first draft of the bill to prevent attacks on mediapersons will be ready in a month. “I am positive about formulating a law to prevent attacks on journalists. The first draft of the Bill will be ready in a month's time and will be available for suggestions and

objections,” Fadnavis told representatives of journalists organisations.

The Chief Minister added that opinion of senior lawyers would be taken to make the proposed law foolproof. Fadnavis said the report of a cabinet sub-committee led by former minister Narayan Rane would be rejected in the cabinet and a proposal to this effect would be brought in the cabinet meeting after the on-

going Monsoon Session of the State Legislature concludes.

“The previous government had neither accepted nor rejected the recommendations of the Rane Committee,” he said.

Journalist organisations complained that their views were not sought while framing the recommendations. Fadnavis said the existing IPC provisions are bailable and non-cognisable. “The special

(hereinafter referred to as " the said lands") are included in Agriculture Zone; And whereas, M/S Posco Maharashtra Steel Pvt. Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as " the said Company") have requested the Government to include the said lands in Residential Zone; And Whereas, after consulting the Director of Town Planning, Maharashtra State, Pune, the Government feels it necessary that the said lands, as shown on part plan, may be deleted from Agriculture Zone and included in Residential Zone, subject to the following conditions Conditions:1) The safe distance shall be kept from the river.

5) The said Company shall pay the necessary premium for the change of zone as per Government policy. (hereinafter referred to as "the proposed modification"); Now therefore, in accordance with the provisions contained in sub- section (3) of section 20 of the said Act, the Government hereby, publishes this notice for inviting suggestions and/or objections in respect of the proposed modification, from the general public within sixty days from the date of publication of the notice in the Official Gazette. If you are a victim of this belief, I know I have been in the past, you need to make your way straight to o:h cha kitchen and bar at Lower Parel to really expand your food palette when it comes to Thai food o:h cha which opened it’s doors last year, is probably the first standalone restaurant in Mumbai serving authentic Thai food. Now the word authentic, has been grossly misused and abused by most restaurants, but o:h cha really has kept its promise of keeping it as real as possible.

Around 40 ingredients are imported from Thailand and cooking techniques too have been incorporated to serve you an experience that is as close to the original. The man behind it all, Chef Patron Rakesh Talwar, is a stickler for perfection and detailing. No shortcuts in his kitchen he tells us! He has worked in the industry for decades, with some of the leading names in the food business and runs a number of restaurants here and abroad. His passion and love for food, really transcends into what he serves along with his team that includes Sous chef Suresh Chunara.

At o:h cha you are transported to Thailand when you step in and savour the food. A few variations like toning down the spice levels are probably the only changes they’ve made, and they do not serve Indianised Thai food, I repeat they do not. The décor, ambience and service is impressive. It’s warm and much of the interiors imported to bring you a Thai experience in the heart of the city. Waiters know the food and what they are serving, so go ahead and ask them for suggestions if you’re confused.

While o:h cha has an expansive menu, I’m going to boil it down to what I loved the best here. To start off with, go for the Fried Turnip Cake. Who could have thought turnips could be so tasty? This dish takes a while to prepare. Mashed turnip balanced with the right amount of potato is mashed together into a cake which is then frozen and cut into tiny squares and deep fried, served with a burnt garlic chilli topping - simply delicious.

Next up the Chicken Roll, which is steamed minced chicken stuffed in Chinese cabbage rolls with a peppery sichuan sauce is extremely flavourful. We also tried The Grilled Chicken Shanghai Dumpling and the Grilled Vegetable Shanghai Dumpling both different not just in colour, but filling and cooking methods as well. The latter is a pan seared dumpling with water chestnut, carrot and celery made perfectly so that each vegetable retains its crunch, texture and taste. There’s also the Som Tam salad which is a spicy but refreshing raw papaya salad made with imported palm sugar that is integral to this recipe.

You could even try the Edamame Beans boiled in sea salt, that’s simple yet fresh and tasty.

BJP hardens its stand T

he BJP appears to have hardened its stand in the parliament. In the Lok Sabha where it has a brute majority, it can take on the combined attack by the opposition parties. It has decided to ignore the demands of the opposition. It has taken a firm stand with regard to the demand of the opposition for the resignation of Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje. Rahul Gandhi has stated what Sushma has done is criminal. He has aggressively stated a criminal cannot remain in parliament. He seems to have ignored the fact that in parliament, there are dozens of members with a criminal record. The cases of some of these members are in various courts of the country.

What has made the government harden its stand is the refusal of the opposition to let Sushma Swaraj make a statement. Are they concerned she will provide enough proof in her statement to show she is innocent?

The government will have the problem of passing bills only in the Rajya Sabha where the combined parties can muster a majority and defeat the passing of government bills.

The BJP perhaps is hoping that at least one or two parties will give it support in the Rajya Sabha. It is reported that the centre is making all possible effort to get the support of the Trinamool Congress or the AIADMK. Offers like special status might induce so these parties change their stand.

HE monsoon session of Parliament has commenced amidst palpable apprehension regarding the expected discourse between the occupants of the treasury benches and of the opposition benches. The primary contentious issue at hand is the allegations of corruptions and scams against ministers occupying office in the ruling central government and heading state administrations, run by the same party, ruling at the centre: the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The country’s external affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj, and the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje, are both, in separate ways, accused of unscrupulous assistance to Lalit Modi, a magnate of the sport of cricket, who is accused of sharp practices. The chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seems to have got enmeshed in the “Vyapam” scandal, involving subterfuge in various examinations. The issue has become murkier from the allegedly unexplained passing away of about twenty-six accused and seeming witnesses surrounding the scam.

Encouragingly, they are subjected to degrees of correctives from the leader of the house, the speaker, or from its seasoned members, who are more conscious of the necessity to maintain a level of decency inside Parliament than others.

India’s first Premier, Jawaharlal Nehru, was highly conscious of the necessity to accord the highest degree of respect to the institution of Parliament. He virtually pulled of all stops to ensure that it was so. In the initial

At the dawn of independence, despite a certain degree of wariness in some contemplative minds about extent of awareness and willingness among political partici-

The immediate frown appeared above Nehru’s eyebrows, but the usual explosion of anger did not follow. Controlling his annoyance, Nehru patiently explained to his junior colleagues that decency and decorum demands that the Speaker of Parliament is

never sent for, always approached. Nehru wallowed in parliament, was present personally and participated in all its sessions as long as he was around and was not struck with any illness. When on two famous occasions during his rule, an unscrupulous nexus between some rich businessmen and certain government ministers were exposed on the floor of parliament, Nehru “bowed to the majesty of Parliament” and ensured the departure of one of his Finance ministers and of concerned government officials from their respective posts, although he doubted the extent of the minister’s involvement in the scandal.

Atal enriched Parliament sessions Indira Gandhi was treated rather shabbily by Parliament during the first year of her rule in 1966. Later, perhaps in a mood of retribution, she often displayed some insensitivity to Parliamentary proceedings and enquiries from the opposition. During the “Emergency” she condemnably converted Parliament into a rump. Post-Emergency, parliament re-gained its former respect, but the period of potential glory which it achieved during the Nehru years is yet to be witnessed again. Nevertheless, there have been occasions when highly respected and spectacular individuals have been elected to Parliament. Foremost among them has been Atal Behari Vajpayee. An MP with decades of experience, Vajpayee regaled and enriched parliamentary proceedings through his excellent speeches, replete with oratorical flourish, wit, facts, and a capacity to impress even upon members belonging to other political parties. As Prime Minister, Vajpayee played no mean role in trying to restore a measure of dignity to Parliament while navigating through the tempestuous nature of Indian politics and the challenges of governing India.

To diminish the instances of unruliness and unacceptable demeanour within Parliament, it collectively impinges on the government, opposition, and the Speaker to uphold the respect of Parliament and to ensure necessary actions upon erring members; instantly, impartially, and sternly.

As this monsoon session of Parliament progresses, it is a fervent hope and expectation that all matters, notwithstanding their levels of seriousness and relevance, would be discussed with logic, civility, discipline, and objectivity. An improvement in the quality of parliamentary procedures is bound to affect the workings of the state legislatures of the country for the better, thereby ameliorating the quality of the political process of the country.

ombay High Court on Thursday directed the State government to grant approval to Nowrosjee Wadia Maternity Hospital at Parel for starting a paediatric organ transplant facility by July 31.A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Anil Menon were informed by State government advocate G. W. Mattos that within a week the Directorate of Health Services will grant the authorisation certificate for running the centre.The court heard a Public Interest Litigation by Kamayani Mahabal for restarting the Bail Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, which closed

in 2009 for renovation and moved its services to the maternity hospital in the adjacent compound. The hospital had earlier told the court that repairs, modernisation and refurbishment work will be completed by March 31, 2016.

However, 'it would start the transplant facility at the maternity hospital, which will be the first of its kind in this part of the world.' The hospital's advocate informed that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board conducted an inspection on June 20 and found that the hospital was satisfied for conducting the transplant.

All that required is authorisation from the DHS, the advocate said.

The measure taken by the commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has inspired the Improvement Committee at BMC to send out notices to all those organisations who Lame of Lessee

BONKERS Tucked away in a maze of lanes in Colaba, Go Bonkers offers children a space to learn and play. Katha Nauriyal visited the latest indoor playing area to check it out

A

s I entered Go Bonkers in Colaba, I was welcomed by a playful ambiance and fresh décor. However, the first thing that caught my attention was the check-in facility. It helps you conveniently track the duration that your child has spent in the play area and pay accordingly.

As I made my way through excited children sprinting past the play area, I could not help but notice the generous splashes of colour that gave the entire zone a playful aura. Offering a multi-level activity area, it featured a pair of slides, swings, trampolines, a ball pool zone and a basketball court — which by the way, were all well-cushioned to ensure safety. Additionally, it featured a separate section called The Toddler Zone, which is designed specifically to help toddlers jump, climb, crawl and balance. I also noticed that the caretakers who managed the kids quite efficiently operated every section — some even accompanied the little ones on the slides! Adding to this, my guide told me that three staff members are always present inside to look after the children.

It offered a range of books and magazines that are not only a great option for children who prefer the company of books, but also offer picks for parents who like to flip through pages while their naughty ones are busy battling obstacles. Adjacent to this nook was an in-house cafe that served snacks such as smiley fries, pizzas and cookies. But, what was unique about its offerings was that meals here are prepared with children’s preferences in mind and priced between an affordable `60 and `500.

The cafe also has a screen where parents can watch their kids play in the activity area. To make it more parent friendly, Go Bonkers conducts yoga classes that you can avail of while your children are gallivanting. I visited just in time to see an evening class. Classes cost approximately `4,000-`5,000 every month.

In a nutshell, Go Bonkers is a safe play area, equipped with CCTV cameras, and is the perfect place for your children to play during the monsoon. However, it may not be of great help to parents looking for a spot to drop their kids while they are off to work, as it is mandatory for a child to visit with a guardian. In addition, the maximum time a child can spend at Go Bonkers varies from two to three hours, which may not be enough.

You can book the entire venue to host birthday parties that can accommodate 60 to 100 guests, costing you around `50,000, exclusive of taxes.

ocated within Priyadarshini Park on Nepean Sea Road, Priyadarshini Futsal Kick (as it is officially called) is adjacent to the sea, which makes it the perfect place for a good photo session with your team with a great view in the background. But, that’s not the only stellar feature of this turf ground.

I’m told that the turf has been laid over a foundation of earth — it isn’t like the mat turfs you will find on the roof of a mall — and the material itself is European turf (unlike the Chinese variety that is generally laid out). Both these factors contribute to a more shock-absorbing effect, which makes playing here lighter on your knees.

European turf is much softer and contains more artificial black gravel, ensuring that you don’t scrape yourself if you decide to go in Sol Campbell style — remember his sliding tackle that went on and on?

The problem with playing on turf is that you usually experience a reduced grip, making it difficult to perform on.

Now, I didn’t put on a pair of boots and try it out myself, so I can’t comment on the downforce, or lack thereof. And, unfortunately, they won’t allow football studs on this turf, so leave your ’80s-style boots at home. However, they will allow shoes that have rubberised cleat soles or the more popular, flat-sole turf shoes.

Although the ground seems small (in terms of length, at least), it can easily handle five-a-side games, and you’re even allowed to cram 12 players on to the field. If you’re thinking of Kick at Powai in terms of the facilities that are offered, you’ll be a bit disappointed at Priyadarshani Park. They don’t provide refreshments here yet, but are in the process of getting that set up. What’s interesting is that they’re also planning to

f you’ve been to Colaba Social, we’re sure that you have good memories of the place. We do too, except for the fact that it’s almost impossible to find a table there on a weekend. So, we were glad to hear about the opening of a new branch at Lower Parel. Situated in the repurposed Loom Mill, the Todi Mills Social is exactly where you will want to be on a weekend, or on night out with friends.

The interiors are quirky, with the entrance itself featuring robust steel columns, which give way to a refurbished orange shipping container (who would have thought of that?!). Everything inside has been upcycled and recycled and an empty metal loft upstairs functions as a collaborative work space. This, paired with a relaxed atmosphere, is all you need to make the most of your night out.

Once we finished taking in our surroundings, we decided to order a Trip on the Drip (`280) and an Old Smoke (`320) — two of their signature cocktails.

Flavoured with peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice, the Trip on the Drip came in a quirky, zip-lock bag and was among my favourite drinks of the night. The Old Smoke was fairly delicious, albeit a bit too sweet for my taste. Other recommendations include the Chamomile and Cranberry (`380) and the Electric Longest Long Island Iced Tea (`550). And, if you’re a fan of classic cocktails, be sure to try their Horseradish Bloody Mary (`400), especially if you’re looking for a pleasant take on a popular classic.

While we really enjoyed the drinks, the food didn’t blow us away, and the menu isn’t different from the Colaba eatery, except for a handful of additions. We first ordered their Pulled Tandoori Chicken Makhani Bao (`190). Handpulled tandoori chicken in buttery gravy, served in pita pockets, it was delicious! Had it not been for the dishes that were strewn all over our table, we would have ordered a second round of those. Next up were their Death Wings (`220), which, our server told

us, were so hot that we wouldn’t be able to finish them. Although he was right, the wings weren’t spicy enough to stop us from polishing them off. Their Classic Cheese Poutine (`220), despite being extremely cheesy, would have been wolfed down on an exceptionally hungry night.

For our main course, we tried their Grilled Chicken Peri Peri Sizzler (`410).

Topped with succulent chicken breast and sautéed vegetables, the rice sizzler was an instant favourite. To round off the meal, we ordered the Ramesh & Suresh (`150) and the Chocolate Blood Bath (`170).

Featuring deep-fried 5 Star chocolate bars and vanilla ice cream, the dessert was an absolute delight! The Chocolate Blood Bath is best left for staunch chocolate lovers — it really is a blood bath. But, even though it was overwhelmingly sweet, it was quite delicious.

The Todi Mills Social isn’t very different from its Colaba counterpart, but we did have a good time. The drinks are amazing and their food is decent. It isn’t exactly light on the pocket, but if you’re looking for great drinks, a buzzing atmosphere and good quality service, Todi Mills Social is where you should be.

DELI DELIGHT

A visit to the newly opened Desi Deli in Bandra made Purva Indulkar’s afternoon a whole lot better! Read on to find out what impressed her

colleague and I made our way to Desi Deli on a particularly humid day and chose to sit at one of their outdoor tables, happy to have a space to relax for a moment as the traffic in Bandra raced past us.

Despite being located in a crowded area, the ambience inside is soothing, like a lazy evening on a street in Paris.

The décor is rustic, with bright pops of colour on the walls and adorable flower baskets on the tables. Since the restaurant combines traditional western dishes with Indian flavours, its menu is littered with names like Tall, dark and Desi which is quite amusing. We began our meal with some fresh juices including passion fruit and apple, that perked us up.

Since burgers and hot dogs are popular items on the menu, so we started there. I picked The Sonoran Desi (`290), a chicken sausage topped with mayo, green salsa, queso fresca, papaya relish and sour cream. The toppings gave this dish a delicious, sour and sweet flavour. Although, I wish it had been spicier.

My colleague chose The Texan Desi (`325), a heavy pork sausage topped with chili-con kheema, sour cream, onions, soft-boiled eggs and chili salt. Next, we ordered a platter of entrées, all served with a side of salad, with seasonal mesclun, fruits and nuts. The Great Greek (`350) with lemon-scented greens in rice, topped with topli na paneer (a variety popular among Parsis) was light and refreshing.

The Champ (`350) was slow-cooked, hammered spiced mutton served with sour cream. This dish is quite filling, so order it only if you don’t plan to order anything else. Next, we tried The Wild Thing (`250), a peppery mutton dish served with cracked wheat porridge and a relish. While the wheat porridge was mild and subdued, the mutton was bursting with flavour making this dish my favourite on the menu. We finished off by digging into Ghugni Souk (`290), which mixes fragrant Moroccan coriander couscous with white pea curry.

After this, we ordered dessert. I chose Begum in Crepe (`225) – two delicate crepes filled with apricot compote, topped with cream. The crepes were soft and light and not too sweet, but the cream brought the whole dish together. My partner picked Trucker Tycoon (`200), mascarpone cheese and chocolate-stuffed toast.

I have to admit her dessert was better than mine.

Overall, the décor and staff at Desi Deli is inviting and the lovely restaurant is perfect for a Sunday brunch.

NHS’s yearly trip to Ladakh is coming up in August, and it promises you a holiday filled with sights that you won’t experience anywhere else. Known as the roof of the world, Ladakh is flanked on two sides by two of the tallest mountain ranges, and has a unique variety of wildlife coupled with raw, untamed landscapes.

If you’re planning on going this year, the ten-day trip is scheduled to take place between August 15 to 25. Remember that you will need a medical certificate for the trip, as you’ll be traversing terrain that’s up to 18,000 feet above sea level. The fact is that even at about 10,000 feet, you need to be really fit to walk for a short distance. We asked a few people who’ve been on BNHS’s camp to Ladakh to tell us more about it.

Priti Vyas, lawyer An in-house attorney working with a corporate of a manufacturing unit in Mumbai, Priti went on a Ladakh camp in 2012. She loved the sandy desert and the high-altitude lakes, and tells us that the camp was physically challenging. “We were told to rest on the first day in order to acclimatise ourselves with the conditions, after which we visited Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, Hemis Monastery and the Hemis National Park. We were also taken to Tso Moriri, which is a scenic, heavenly lake,” she says. However, she was a little disappointed that the BNHS itinerary didn’t include a trip to Nubra Valley — something she had set her heart on seeing.

Camping in tents and snoozing in sleeping bags was an unforgettable experience, she tells us, adding, “The nights were beautiful; it was as though we were lying under a blanket of stars.” She’s eager to go back, but wants to visit for at least 20 days the next time around.

If you love nature but haven’t made your way to Ladakh yet, don’t waste any more time shilly-shallying! Anindra Siqueira spoke to a few people who’ve been on BNHS’s yearly camp to the region. They explain why it’s an experience of a lifetime!

Pooja Pimputkar, risk management professional An actuarial professional based in Mumbai, Pooja visited Ladakh with BNHS in August last year. “I had always wanted to travel to Ladakh to experience its stunning landscapes, and when I received an email regarding a bird camp organised by the BNHS, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to finally do so,” she tells us.

And, how did she feel about the trip? Well, she tells us that there was a very well thought out itinerary, which covered most of the tourist locations as well as some offbeat scenic places. “The sheer beauty of the place made it a very memorable trip,” Pooja says. However, time is a constraint on any trip like this, and the 10 days we were there didn’t seem long enough. She wishes that certain locations that were left out of the itinerary could have been covered, but she praises the group leaders and is happy to have seen over 50 bird species on the trip. “Of all the places we visited, I liked Tso Moriri, Tso Kar and Thiksey Monastery the most! Overall, it was an experience I truly cherish,” she adds.

Chandrahas Kolhatkar, banker An avid birdwatcher who works in a nationalised bank in Pune, and a life member of BNHS since 1997, Chandrahas Kolhatkar tells us that he made the trip to Ladakh last year because he wanted to catch a glimpse of the birds that inhabit the region — some of which aren’t found anywhere else. “The golden

eagle, the black-necked crane, the Tibetian sandgrouse, the chough, the fire-fronted serin, the upland buzzard and the little owl are some of the birds that are found only in that region. Besides these, mammals such as the kiang (Tibetan wild ass) are also found only in this region, and ducks such as the bar-headed goose and the Ruddy Shelduck (Brahminy duck) breed in the high altitude lake region,” he enthuses.

The need to acclimatise can’t be stressed upon enough.

Four members from Chandrahas’s group (including Chandrahas himself) needed to be hospitalised due to breathing difficulties, which he says are a common occurrence among tourists. He tells us, “I had to drop out of the excursion to Khardung Pass, which is at a height of 18,000 feet above sea level. Because of the low oxygen levels, walking even 10 steps is akin to walking one kilometre at sea level. Nonetheless, the wildlife and nature was wonderful. The Tso Moriri and Tso Kar lakes are beautiful too. The bare mountains and rugged terrain offer an experience you will remember for the rest of your life.”

Then Khaleel’s Magician informs him that he is going to die at the hands of Krishna, just as Bhagwan Shri Krishna was known to have slain Kans, his maternal uncle, so also will Khaleel’s life end at this Krishna’s hands. Minister of State for Coal Piyush Goyal BUSINESS BRIEFS Adani Ports Raises $ 650 Mn Via Dollar Bond Issue

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) yesterday raised USD 650 million (around Rs 4,100 crore) via its debut dollar bond issue and the proceeds will be used to refinance foreign currency denominated debts and fund capital expenditure. In a BSE filing, APSEZ said "it has priced a Rule 144A/Regulation S offering of USD 650 million 3.50 senior unsecured notes due 2020." It further said: "The use of proceeds is to refinance foreign currency denominated external commercial borrowings and fund capital expenditure."

Scheme To Install One Lakh Solar Pumps By Government

The government is implementing a scheme to install one lakh solar pumps for irrigation and drinking water, Parliament was informed yesterday. "The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is implementing programme for installation of 1,00,000 solar pumps for irrigation and drinking water through State Nodal Agencies and NABARD," Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. He further said that the ministry provides 30% capital subsidy to farmers for installation of solar pumps for irrigation purpose through state nodal agencies.

World's third largest luxury car maker BMW India yesterday launched a souped-up version of its premium sports activity car X6 coupe for Rs 1.15 crore ex-showroom, national. The 6-liter, 8-speed machine is the second generation of the X6 Series and is being sold as a completely built unit and will be available for sale across the BMW showrooms, BMW India Group president Philipp von Sahr told reporters here. REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY:

The Nifty fell moderately on Thursday (July 23, 2015) a net 43.70 points (0.51%) and closed at the 8589 point level. The market opened up with a gap at the 8643 points level. It then rose further and registered the day’s high at the 8654 points level at 9.25 a.m. The index then declined and turned into a range bound movement until 1.22 p.m. It then declined sharply and registered the day’s low at the 8573 points level at 2.14 p.m. The index then rose and then turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty witnessed a volatile session, moved in a range of 81 points and closed below the psychologically important 8600 points level. Sentiment was bearish and amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 35 were losers, while 15 stocks closed in the red.

Substantial buying was witnessed in consumer durables stocks.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) increased 4.28%. This change is smal and indicates a moderate participation by investors.

Market Breadth: Overall Market Breadth on the NSE was neutral. Amongst all the traded stocks, 736 were gainers, 723 were losers and 38 remained unchanged.

Slow Stochastic Indicator: The Slow Stochastic Oscillator has declined in the overbought zone.

The Slow K line in the Stochastic Oscillator is below the slow D line (negative if it continues).

RSI Indicator: The RSI is above the 60 level but is now declining (negative if it continues).

MACD Indicator: The MACD is above zero but is now turned flat (positive if it rises). It is above its 9-day Average (positive).

Overall Market Strength/Weakness: The indicators and oscillators discussed here are indicating a strong market but with a negative bias.

Suppor t Levels: For short-term traders the immediate main support is at the 8403 points level.

The next support is at the 8332 points level.

Resistance Levels The immediate main resistance is at the 8667 points level.

However, the index is above its 15, 25 and 200 day moving averages and all the three averages are rising.

This is positive. As such these are mixed signals.

Investors are advised to hold long positions but with a strict stop loss at the 15-day average at the 8505 point’s level.

he GST rate of 20%, as suggested by a Parliamentary Committee, would benefit the industry and will also not be a burden on consumers, say experts .

The Rajya Sabha Select Committee has suggested that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate should not go beyond 20% as higher rates could fuel inflation and erode the confidence of consumers in a new indirect tax regime proposed to be rolled out on April 1, 2016.

Internationally, the GST rate ranges from 16-20%. However, there are some exceptions like Japan, Australia and Germany, where the rates are 8%, 10% and 23%, respectively. "GST rate at 20% is a practical proposition. It will help the manufacturers who currently have to pay

multiple taxes which goes up to 25%. Also, with the widening of tax base, the Government will stand to gain in the medium to long term," PwC Partner (Indirect Tax) Amit Bhagat said. He further said that Service Tax, which currently is at 14%, will go up to 20%, but the real incidence would be less on account of more credits being available.

The Committee report, which was tabled in Rajya Sabha yesterday, said: "To start with India's GST rate should not go beyond 20% for standard rate and perhaps 14% for reduced rate". The final rate, however, would be decided by the GST Council. It further said the GST Council need not go strictly by the Revenue Neutral Rate (RNR) for fixing the GST rate because "a high GST rate in line with the high RNR would definitely lead to high inflation.

India cannot afford to have high inflation at this stage of economy."

The Revenue Neutral Rate is the one at which there will be no revenue loss to the states after GST implementation.

KPMG India, Head (Indirect Tax) Sachin Menon said both Centre and states would be able to collect more revenue at 20% rate as the loss in manufacturing taxes would be more than made up by the gains in Service tax realisation. "GST rate at 20% should be acceptable to consumers," Menon said. A sub-committee of Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers on GST had earlier suggested 27% RNR. But the rate is being reworked by the subcommittee in view of taxation of petroleum products as also the 1% additional tax which states can levy as part of the GST roll out.

Fall In Gold Prices Not Yet A Concern For Rupee, Says Nomura

he decline in gold prices is not likely to add pressure to India's current account deficit or the domestic currency, as the metal's appeal has diminished, Nomura has said in a research note yesterday.

According to the global financial services firm, the recent decline in gold prices is not yet a "concern" for the Indian rupee.

According to it , since 2009, lower inflation, improved RBI credibility and strong performance in financial assets have diminished gold’s appeal

as an investment. Gold prices are currently hovering around Rs 25,000 per 10 grams, after it dropped to a fouryear low in the domestic market.

Moreover, the correlation between gold prices and gold demand in India had turned from "negative" to "positive" since 2009. This change in correlation was attributed to a number of factors including a "growing preference for gold as an investment asset rather than purely as a consumer good", Nomura said. upply of new retail space in shopping malls remained negligible in six major cities this year till June due to construction delays but the second half is likely to witness an addition of 6 million sq ft, according to property consultant CBRE. "New retail space addition remained negligible during the first six months of this year. Most prominent shopping centre projects that were expected to reach completion during the period were deferred to the second half of the year, largely due to construction delays," CBRE said in a statement.

in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.

More than 60 per cent of this fresh mall space anticipated in the JulyDecember period is expected to come up in the NCR, which is likely to witness the completion of key shopping centre developments.

According to CBRE’s India Retail Market View for the first half of 2015, global as well as domestic Food and Beverage (F&B) retailers, followed by value retailing, remained the key demand drivers for store space. As a consequence of the deferred supply of fresh mall space during the first two quarters, there has been a rising demand for retail space across high streets of leading cities such as Mumbai, NCR and Bangalore.

10 Indian Companies In Forbes Asia Fab 50 List

s many as 10 Indian companies, including Aurobindo Pharma, HCL Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services, and HDFC Bank, have made it to the Forbes Asia Fabulous 50 list.

India has the second-highest number of companies on the list for the fifth year in a row, Forbes said in the list released yesterday.

Forbes further said that the Fab 50's brightest star, over the decade, was India's HDFC Bank.

The bank has made it to the list nine times, more than any other company. The other Indian companies on the list include Lupin, Motherson Sumi Systems, Sun Pharma Industries, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra and Titan.

After China and India, South Korea has the highest number of companies with four firms, while Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore have two firms each and Indonesia, Japan have one firm each on the list.

The 'Fab 50' companies were chosen from a pool of 1,116 firms that have at least USD 3 billion in annual revenue or market cap. Moreover, companies must be publicly traded for at least a year, and hence Alibaba, which listed last September, was not featured in the list, Forbes said.

The Indian companies on the 2015 Fortune Global 500 list are Indian Oil ranked 119 on the list with revenues of about USD 74 billion, Reliance Industries (158) with revenues of USD 62 billion, Tata Motors with revenues of USD 42 billion (254), State Bank of India with revenues of USD 42 billion (260), Bharat Petroleum with revenues of USD 40 billion (280), Hindustan Petroleum with revenues of USD 35 billion (327) and Oil and Natural Gas with with revenues of USD 26

While Indian Oil, Reliance, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Oil and Natural Gas slipped in rankings from the previous year, Tata Motors and SBI improved in rankings.

The list has been topped by Walmart, which has retained its numero uno spot. It is followed

by Chinese petroleum refining giant Sinopec Group on the second spot, Netherlands- based Royal Dutch Shell (3), China National Petroleum (4) and Exxon Mobil (5).

egastar Amitabh Bachchan loved "Kahaani" director Sujoy Ghosh's short film "Ahalya", starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Radhika Apte. "Ahalya", the 14minute-nine-second thriller set in Kolkata, is based on the story of a character in Hindu mythology of the same name.

Sujoy Ghosh... Brilliant!!," Bachchan posted on Twitter along with the link of the movie. An elated Ghosh wrote, "Yay! love you sir."

he Pooja Bhatt film ''Cabaret'' has already been garnering a positive response because of its storyline… However, recently, there's been an unexpected twist behind the scenes of the film that led to the replacement of Lauren Gottlieb by Richa Chadda!

Lauren being a trained dancer was the obvious choice for the film and had signed a contract with the makers earlier on. However, Pooja apparently advised Lauren to visit her parents in the US before the start of the shooting schedule. Whilst Lauren was in the US, apparently Pooja changed her mind and decided to cast Richa in place of Lauren, who apparently looked more sophisticated in the role.

Apparently, Bhatt didn’t even inform Lauren of the change in plans and terminated the contract! Only when Lauren came to Mumbai did she realise what had transpired.

Last week, the 41-year-old former Miss World was down with viral fever, but still shot for her upcoming film "Jazbaa".

Aishwarya, daughter-in-law of megastar Amitabh Bachchan, had been juggling between her daughter Aaradhya and the shoot, despite being unwell.

She has been even supporting husband Abhishek Bachchan's team Jaipur Pink Panthers at the Pro Kabaddi League. "Despite suffering from viral fever, Aishwarya continued with her shootings, her dedication towards her work is completely astonishing as she didn't even take leave or break so that the film should not suffer," a source from the production house said.

Aishwarya, will play the role of a lawyer in Sanjay Gupta's "Jazbaa", an action-drama film.

The film, also starring Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi and Jackie Shroff, will hit the screens on October 9.

ow it can be told! As the filmy adage goes, ‘role role par likkha hai, adaa karnewale ka naam’, where destiny casts its dicey twist. According to insiders and cine trade sources, the script of mega-hit Bollywood movie ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was first offered ‘three years ago’ to film-maker Rakesh Roshan by the story-writer V. Vijayendra Prasad. Apparently, the Roshan camp was maha-impressed with the script and Rakesh decided to produce and direct it.

Meanwhile, there came a stumbling block when Prasad insisted that he would “co-produce” the movie. Which was not acceptable to Rakesh who even offered to “buy” the script at an astronomical price. Because even star-hero son Hrithik heard the ‘narration’ and was equally enthused. But Prasad was “unwilling” to part with the script on the terms offered to him. Subsequently Prasad got in touch with Salman Khan and director Kabir Khan who were charged with excitement on hearing the subject.

But this time, along with Salman, ‘Bajrangi...’ co-produced

by Bangalore based Kannada eminent producer-actor ‘Rockline’ Venkatesh (of Rajnikanth-starrer ‘Lingaa’ fame). Hardcore loyal Hrithik fans are feeling sorry for him, that he narrowly missed out on such a fabulous opportunity.

EW DELHI: Leg-spinner Amit Mishra today staged a comeback into the national Test side after a gap of four years while veteran Harbhajan Singh retained his place in the 15member squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Barring 32-year-old Mishra’s inclusion, there were no major surprise in the team with the selectors retaining as many as 14 players, who had toured Bangladesh for the one-off Test early this month.

Leg-spinner Sharma was the only player to have been left out due to injury while young batsman Lokesh Rahul retained his place in the squad, announced by BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur after a selection committee meeting, also attended by Test skipper Virat Kohli.

The selectors again ignored veterans such as Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and Pragyan Ojha. Ravindra Jadeja, who has not been in good form of late, was again left out from the Test squad.

“Amit Mishra was always in the scheme of things. Last year also he was in reserves.

The final XI though is decided by the captain. Looking at the conditions we have picked him for this tour,” Chief selector Sandeep Patil said at a press conference.

“Pragyan was discussed but only 15 players can be selected. Looking at the conditions we have given preference to Mishra,” he added.

Patil said Karn and paceman Mohammed Shami have still not recovered from their respective injuries that is why “their names were not discussed.”

“We always try to get the balance right. This is the best combination for the Sri

Lanka tour.”

The injury to Karn Sharma made it easy for Amit Mishra to return to the Test fold as none of the other spinners like Ojha, Piyush Chawla and Axar Patel were in contention for a Test berth. Mishra last played a Test against England in August 2011 at the Oval.

Asked whether the selectors discussed seniors like Gambir, Patil said,”they were not discussed.”

EW DELHI: Back from a well-deserved break, Indian Test captain Virat Kohli has decided to get into the groove by playing in the second four-day ‘Test’ against Australia ‘A’ in Chennai from July 28-31.

“Virat Kohli had requested the selection committee for some match practice and wanted to play a game against Australia A. He will be playing the second four day game against Australia A,” secretary Anurag Thakur said at post selection press conference.

When Sandeep Patil was asked as to who will lead the side, the chairman said: “Cheteshwar Pujara is the designated captain and he will lead the side.”

Actually with the team being decided in 30 minutes, there were discussions on various long term issues and Virat mooted the point of playing a first class game.

The reason being it will be proper match situation and Chepauk pitch being pretty similar to Sri Lankan wickets will provide him with match simulation.

Gavaskar said that 21year-old spinner was “not the next big thing of Indian cricket” and could not be considered as a specialist spinner in Test cricket because he does not turn the ball.

“No, Axar Patel is not an alternative spinner India should be looking for. He just rolls the ball, he does not have the flight and his deliveries are very much predictable. He does not turn the ball unless the pitch is

EW DELHI: The chairman of senior selection committee Sandeep Patil in a polite yet firm manner made it clear that his point of view on team’s pace attack is different from limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

In his third interaction in two months with the media, Patil was ecstatic about Harbhajan Singh’s strong comeback saying that “age will never be a criteria but form and fitness will be”. Patil though was a tad evasive about the name of reserve wicketkeeper but clear on how Virat Kohli’s reign would be different from Dhoni’s tenure as Test captain.

Asked about his view of retaining the same fourpronged attack which Dhoni has been critical of, Patil said,”I am not talking about what Mahendra Singh Dhoni

has said. But we are always trying to get a proper balance. And the wicket in Sri Lanka is such that we felt this is the best possible bowling combination. We all selectors felt we can go ahead with it.”

Patil was polite yet diplomatic when asked if he was hurt about Dhoni’s view on too much emphasis on pace.

“Captain has all the right to make a comment and we have no objection to that. It is upto BCCI to react to that,” said Patil, who spoke to the media sitting alongside secretary Anurag Thakur.

“MS Dhoni is one of the best leaders that we have seen and he has all the right to make comments regarding bowlers,” he added.

But Patil said that they did discuss the performance of the Bangladesh and Zimbabwe series.

EW DELHI: The BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur today made it clear that they would not rush to any decision regarding the controversial IPL Chief Operating Officer Sundar Raman’s fate amid calls for his ouster, terming him a mere “employee and not a decision maker”.

“There is no verdict against him (Raman). There is an enquiry going on. See when we took over, there was an enquiry against these two teams (CSK and RR) as well. We have waited for the Lodha Committee to come out with their verdict. Now once they have come out with their verdict, we categorically decided to implement it in toto. Why do you want us to hush up, rush up and say that we want to take this decision against this gentleman,” Thakur said

when asked why Raman was still not suspended.

Contrary to earlier regime when Raman was perceived to be one of the most powerful figures in the Board, Thakur categorically stated that Raman is merely “an employee”.

“Sundar Raman is an employee of the Board and he does not have that say to be a decision maker in the Board. See, it is the IPL Governing Council which takes the decision and not the employees. It is the members who take decisions.

They (employees) implement the decision which we take.”

Thakur also reiterated IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla’s stand that the Board would wait for working group’s report before taking any further decision about possible options regarding the two suspended franchises and their players.

UMBAI: St Dominic Savio High School, Andheri lost their game against Don Bosco High School, Matunga 3-1 after an extremely poor defensive showing by the latter in the under 16 first division match of the interschool football tournament at the Azad Maidan on Thursday.

In the event of drawing level, Dominic lost their composure and gave more leverage to their opposition creating gaps in the midfield, thus losing the opportunity to draw level.

The conditions of the pitch at Azad Maidan did not help as the city experienced a heavy downpour, leading to puddles all over the ground. St Domnic Savio High School, however, felt the score line was a little bit harsh on them. “I think 3-1 flatters our opposition a little bit,” said midfielder Bobby Rajan who went on to add that his team needs to maintain their composure in defense if they want to win their next game. “As long as the score was 2-1 we still felt we were in the game but we pushed a bit too hard for the equaliser and ended up getting caught on the counter attack,” he said.

ENEVA: Potential FIFA presidential election rivals Michel Platini and Prince Ali bin al-Hussein met for the first time on Wednesday since Sepp Blatter announced his exit.

Spokesmen for both men declined to comment on details of the talks held in the south of France, where Platini has a vacation home.

Prince Ali was publicly supported by UEFA President Platini before losing a 133-73 vote to Blatter in May. Four days later, under pressure from American and Swiss corruption investigations, Blatter said he would leave within months.

Australia upbeat over Rogers despite need for extra Tests

ONDON: Australia remain “hopeful” that opener Chris Rogers will feature in next week’s third Test at Edgbaston despite requiring further specialist treatment after succumbing to a sudden bout of dizziness during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s on Sunday.It was thought the 37-year-old was a victim of delayed concussion, having been struck on the helmet by a bouncer from England paceman James Anderson. But a London-based specialist said Rogers was suffering a balance problem in the inner ear. Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said that while Rogers’ condition was improving, he would remain in London for more treatment before a final decision was made on his availability for the third Test.

“Chris saw another specialist in London this (Wednesday) morning who confirmed an injury to his vestibular (balance) system in his inner ear,” said Brukner.

EW DELHI: The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) today said it will leave no stone unturned in its attempt to make next year’s World Twenty20 a grand success.

BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur, while addressing a press conference, said they are focusing on all areas, including spectators interest.

“Discussions are on for the 2016 World T20 at eight venues. The first Organising

Committee meeting will be held before August 7 to discuss what new changes are to be brought like how and from where the disabled fans will enter the stadiums, how to make toilets big and clean, measures for firefighting and spectators point of view. We will do a lot,” Thakur said.

Eight cities - Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Dharamsala, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and Delhi - have

been named as venues for the prestigious event, which will begin on March 11 next year. Kolkata will host the final on April 3.

The BCCI Secretary also emphasised that the young Indian players must work hard on fitness.

“There should be quality, a benchmark and standard for fitness. Once the players are in reckoning (for national side), they must know what the standard is.”

HENNAI: Back in the mix after one and half years, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha justified the selector’s faith by rocking Australia A top-order with three quick wickets as the visitors reached 185 for four against India A at stumps on the second day of the first unofficial cricket Test, here today.

Bowling with a remodelled action, Ojha finished the day with figures of 3/52 as he had at one stage reduced Australia A from 57/1 to 75/4 in a space of 23 deliveries.

However Marcus Stoinis (42 batting) along with Peter Handscomb (75 batting) conjured an undefeated 110run stand for the fifth wicket to stem the rot.

Another interesting aspect of Ojha’s bowling was that he was wearing half-sleeves and that too without any elbow protection unlike Duleep Trophy final last year.

Earlier, India A were all out for 301 in their first innings after starting the day at overnight score of 221 for six.

While talented Tamil Nadu all-rounder Vijay Shankar (51) had an impressive ‘A’ team debut adding 62 runs for the seventh wicket with comeback man Amit Mishra (23), the last four wickets fell for a mere 18 runs as India A folded for 301 in 114.3 overs.

For Australia ‘A’, Steve O’Keefe was the most successful bowler with figures of 6/82 in 31.3 overs.

When Australia A batted, opener Cameron Bancroft (20) nicked one off Abhimanyu Mithun to Naman Ojha behind stumps.

ACSU to investigate World T20 qualifying match N

EW DELHI: The ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) will be investigating the World T20 qualifying game between Afghanistan and Hong Kong in Dublin.

The match in question was played in the Swedish capital on Tuesday. The ACSU “noticed unusual betting patterns on the game” and is likely to get in touch with

leading betting firms, including Betfair, in an attempt to get a clearer picture, claimed a report in ‘ESPNcricinfo’.

The development comes right after Hong Kong’s fivewicket victory in the first qualifying playoff, which booked them a berth at the 2016 World Twenty20 in India. The tournament will be held from March 11 to April 3 next year.

Chasing 161 runs for a win, Hong Kong won the match by five wickets thanks to Babar Hayat, who scored 20 off nine balls. Mohammed Nabi of Afghanistan conceded 16 runs in the last over.

Despite the defeat, Afghanistan still have a chance to qualify for the mega-event. They play Papua New Guinea today in the third qualifying play-off.
