study conducted in UK in November 2013 found women to be more altruistic than men with regard to charity and volunteering because they were more empathic and find it easier to see the world through the eyes of other people. While statistical data to prove which sex is more generous in India might not be available, it would not be wrong to say that Indian women, especially mothers will not think twice to give up on anything for their loved ones. Be it their career, money, property or even their organs. It has been found that at Narmada Kidney Foundation (NKF), more than 70 per cent of the active transplant patients have got a kidney from a lady donor. Dr. Bharat Shah, Founder of NKF and Director of Institute of Renal Sciences, Global Hospital said, “I went through the data at NKF and found out that out of the 369 transplant patients following up with me since 1990, 76 per cent had got a kidney from a woman. This is how giving women are. They don't think twice before helping their family members”, said Dr. Shah. On World Kidney Day today (March 13), the ADC gets you stories of elderly mothers who donated their kidneys to their children and of a daughter who owes the life she is leading today to her mother who at the age of 70, by donating a kidney, gifted her a new life. These smiling and full of life elderly women on Wednesday spoke about their lives after the surgeries at a gathering at Global Hospital, Parel to increase awareness about Chronic Kidney Diseases and aging, the theme of World Kidney Day, this year.
Anything for our children: Sita Sankarnarayan (74) from Borivali donated her kidney to her 42-year-old daughter Deepa in March 2013 when Deepa was diagnosed with kidney problems in September 2012. “She was on dialysis from September 2012 to March 2013 but she used to frequently get fever and that was not a good sign. So I decided that it is best that she undergoes a transplant and I was ready to give my kidney, provided the doctors found it suitable”, said Sita. “Which mother would think twice to do anything that would help her child? I had absolutely no apprehensions. Yes, there were people who told me that after donating, my quality of life would be affected. I will not be able to walk. I will have retina detachment and what not. But I never believed all of these because, I myself being educated, knew that the donor does not face any danger as long as you are with the right doctor and are fit to donate. I went ahead and donated my kidney. This was in March

Sixty eight-year-old Lalitha Menon, another doting mother from Malabar Hill who always believed in leading a healthy lifestyle said, “Keeping myself healthy has paid off. I could donate a healthy kidney to my son who was 48 when he underwent the transplant in April 2013”. Lalitha who was diagnosed with cardiac issues fifteen years ago and has a pacemaker, was ready to donate her kidney but was worried that her cardiac problem might not let her do so. But given the healthy lifestyle she has been maintaining, the doctors found her perfectly fit for a kidney transplant and a happy mother was all set to give her son her kidney.

year-old Leena D'Silva from Bandra who underwent a kidney transplant in 1997. “Who would say that I had undergone a transplant? I am absolutely fine. I owe this to my mother who donated her kidney without a thought”, said Leena. All three women had one thing to say. Transplant definitely is a better option than dialysis as life gets back very close to normal after a transplant and donating kidney does not harm the donor in anyway. “Have faith in your doctor, go ahead and donate. Nothing will go wrong with you”, said Sita and Lalitha. Leena said, “My mother donated her kidney when she was 70. She passed away a few years ago due to old age. While she was alive nothing went wrong with her because of the donation. She lived well”. shwetha.kannan@afternoondc.in

Impossible is may be to compare the thousands of International Woman's Day celebrations held in the city, but the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW), which celebrated a golden jubilee of “Glorious work” in Bandra last Sunday, certainly tried.
That's the chant invoked by a bunch of angry commuters caught in the stampede in Churchgate yesterday which caused chaos and brought down three scanners in the general scrimmage surrounding the AAP star Arvind Kejriwal. The average Mumbaikar likes his campaigns on the roads, though even there he would prefer to see them out early in the morning or late at night. And never, never interfere with his trains! For punishment, Kejriwal should be forced to board a Virar Fast going to Churchgate at morning peak hours, preferably from Andheri. And no, he is not to get a train to himself, but travel hanging out of the door, his muffler fluttering in the breeze.

Metal detector frames placed at gates of Churchgate station after 26/11 blasts were uprooted and its parts were seen dissembled due to the large crowd of people gathered here. However, railway officials justified that it was just an accident because of uncontrolled crowd so no complaint has been filed against anyone. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was seen climbing a railway compound wall at Andheri station to address his party workers who had gathered on the road for which he did not have an official permission. On arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in the morning, he embarked in an auto rickshaw to reach the railway station. Samajwadi Party leader Rayiz Shaikh (candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from North-East) has alleged that the civic admin-

Three-fourth of these banners were of political parties. Mohan Adtani, additional municipal commissioner said, “A team has been formed to remove all the illegal banners in every ward and the deadline for the completion of this work is today (Thursday). The civic body is also photographing the advertisements on display which will be used as a proof while filing FIRs against offenders”. Sharad Bande, superitendent of BMC's license department said, “Offenders are iden-

A senior BMC official added, “The High Court categorically has banned all hoardings except a few negotiations and the policy is already ready but I do not know about any delay in the approval process”. Bande added, “The FIRs are still getting filed in various wards by the licence inspectors, but it takes time as the verification has to be done before a prosecution is carried out”. As per the court's order in March last year, the civic authority has removed around 40,000 illegal hoardings, banners and posters – more than 70 per cent of which were political. khushboo.panjabi@afternoondc.in

W
ith the state facing a terrible drought (one of the worst in 40 years) impacting around 1/5th of Maharashtra, 'Mumbai Goes Green', a social enterprise, is promoting a dry and eco-friendly Holi in an effort to conserve water and soil. Around 3,905 villages in 12 districts of Marathwada and Western Maharashtra are already facing an acute shortage of water. It's time we wake up and do our bit in any way we can. 'Mumbai Goes Green' has been selling eco-friendly colours for the last two years, with this year being the third year of sale. Normal colours sold in the market are prepared from harmful substances such as acids, mica, glass powder and alkalis. These ingredients are not easily degradable and are not easily
removed from waste water by convential waste water treatments. These colours also cause serious skin complications and allergies. Colours by 'Mumbai Goes Green' are 100 per cent organic and natural and made from vegetables and natural ingredients like Haldi, Kumkum, Indigo, Rice, and Arrowroot causing no harm to the skin. Mana Chatterjee, Director, 'Mumbai Goes Green', who has been tirelessly promoting the cause said, “The colour you get outside is cheap and toxic and full of chemicals. Our colours need 50 per cent less water to wash off than other colours sold in the market. They are completely non chemical and do not harm fish in the water”. According to Chatterjee, the response this year has been very good, with the enterprise selling 500 kgs of colour to the public with more sales ex-
pected in the next few days. She points out though, that many Mumbaikars get dissuaded by the price and are looking for cheaper options. She added, “We need to step up. We can only be successful if Mumbai pitches in. We are trying to change Mumbaikars' lifestyle. We want to make a difference together. We need to leave some earth for our children”. You can order these colours from www.mumbaigoesgreen.com or by calling 9821627416/9892465173. You can buy five colors (500 grams) for Rs.250 and avail of home delivery in Mumbai at a nominal charge of Rs.50 and across India (delivery will take two days). You can also help by spreading the word and join them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MumbaiGoesGreen gayatri@afternoondc.in

wo employees – Nitin Joshi (29) and Shekhar Patil (30) – working in a shop in Hyatt Hotel, Kalina, were recently thrashed by Dr. Naveen Rao, the owner of the shop (Mihaus, a luxurious audio visual shop) they were working for and national head of the company Charu Makin. Rao and Charu also allegedly forced Joshi and Patil to file a false complaint against store manager Manoj Lokhande for a monetary fraud. The shop is situated in Hyatt hotel, G8 and G9. Senior police inspector Vinayak Mulay of Vakola police station said, “We have registered a case against Rao and Makin under section 342 wrongful confinement, 324 causing hurt by dangerous weapon, 506 criminal intimidation and 34 common intention. Both the accused are not arrested but are wanted in the case”. Joshi and Patil both have worked for the company for
over seven years. Joshi said, “On March 6, Rao and Makin behaved in a weird way. They began abusing me and Patil”. Patil said, “They called me in a room began hitting me with a rod. There are serious bruises on my legs.” Joshi said, “While I was banging the door and asked Rao to open it, he came out and hit me with the same rod”. Meanwhile, Makin abused the two. Joshi said, “I suffer from a heart disease. I have gone through angiography and was begging for water. Rao then asked office boy Bhushan Jadhav to bring extremely hot water”. Later Joshi and Patil were locked in a room and let off after 9 pm. The next day when Joshi and Patil came to work, Rao and Makin threatened them to file a complaint against Lokhande. Joshi said, “They forcefully took our signatures on a blank paper and locked us inside the room. In the evening when they were not
Oshiwara police arrest man who changes IMEI numbers of robbed mobile phones By Zuber Ansari
S
ince the past two years, the Oshiwara police have been unable to trace the mobile phones being robbed in the locality. They were supposedly unaware that it is possible to change the International Mobile-station Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of mobile phones. On Wednesday, the Oshiwara police solved this mystery and arrested a 25-year-old software engineer who had changed the IMEI number of several phones. This IT crime came to light after a man named Ajit Shaikh, a businessman, approached the Cell Spot shop located in Sunshine building at Lokhandwala to sell his mobile phone. “The accused Mayank Kumar told me that I will be able to use the phone without any problem and do not have to sell it in such a low price. He demanded Rs.1,000 from me and said that I can use the phone without being
detected”, Shaikh said. I suspected foul play and did not reveal that the phone belongs to me. After installing some software, Kumar gave me the phone. I came out of the shop and noticed that the IMEI number of my phone had changed”, said Shaikh in his complaint to the police. After Shaikh approached the police, he was asked to go back to Kumar as the officers needed to nab him red handed. “On Wednesday, Shaikh went back to Kumar and asked him to repeat it on another phone. When Kumar installed the software we laid a trap and arrested him under various sections of the IT Act”, said PI Baburao Mukhedkar of Oshiwara police station. Kumar has been working for the shop since a few months before which he used to work for various mobile service provider companies. The software that Kumar used to change the IMEI number is called Jet 3x.

present we somehow managed to free ourselves and went straight to Vakola police station to register a complaint. There are CCTV cameras but Rao took away the hard disk”. In his defense, Rao said over a phone call, “Lokhande has done fraud of several lakhs. He is the mastermind. The two employees are taking his side. All allegations are false. I never hit them. I am not hiding and I am in Mumbai. The FIR is false.” PSI Deepak Shinde of Vakola Police station said that after verifying all the facts and medical reports, an FIR would be filed.
leuths of state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) have arrested a Food Inspector of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for demanding bribe from the complainant to help him quash the case which she had registered against him in February 2013. The Food Inspector was attached to the FDA office in Bandra at a senior post while her colleague, Assistant Commissioner, Food and Additional Charge also allegedly played a vital role in the crime. The ACB is currently verifying his role. According to ACB sources, the complainant in the case has a milk distribution organisation in Ahmednagar but he supplies milk in Thane and Mumbai as well. In February 2013, the FDA department had registered a case against his organisation allegaing that he supplies sub-standard
milk in the city. Food Inspector Sarla Sachin Khatawkar asked him to meet Assistant Commissioner (Food-Additional Charge) Gautam Vishwanath Jagtap who demanded Rs.2 lakh to help them out of the case. The man paid a sum of Rs.1 lakh in advance but almost after six months (August 2013), Sarla Khatawkar rung him up and asked him to meet her at D' Mart Shopping Mall in Vashi demanding Rs.50,000. The man then forcefully paid Rs.25,000 to her, sources said. In December 2013, the complainant was shocked after he got a call from FDABandra asking him to appear
for a hearing for the two cases registered against him. When he did appear, Sarla Khatawkar again demanded Rs.2 lakh from him to quash the case. This time the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint on Monday. The ACB on Tuesday registered an FIR after verifying all the facts and nabbed Khatawkar while accepting the bribe in Vashi at Navi Mumbai. “We are verifying the role of Assistant Commissioner (Food-Additional Charge) Gautam Vishwanath Jagtap, because the complainant has mentioned his name in the complaint”, sources added.

He said they could do nothing about the garbage because the land that the children had made their playing field belonged to the government. This did not seem to me like a good enough excuse and I continued being cynical until I talked to children studying in KISS and heard them tell me how much their lives had changed since they had come to school. They came from very poor Adivasi villages, they said, and saw their parents only once a year in the summer holidays but did not miss home because they were so fulfilled with

LL the myriad colours in the universe are but the different grades and shades of light, the creator of all elements, which has decorated the heavens so beautifully with sun, moon, plants, and stars; which has made the land and water; with all the beauties of the lower spheres, in some parts dull ad in some parts bright, which man has named light and shade. The sun, moon, planets and stars, the brilliance of electricity, lesser light of gas, lamp, candle, coal and wood, all sow the sun reappearing in different forms; the sun is reflected in all things, be they dull pebbles or sparkling diamonds, and their radiance is according to their capability of reflections. This sows that light is the one and only source, and the cause of the whole creation. “God is the light of the heaven and of the earth”, the Holy Koran says, and we read in Genesis, “And God said: let there be light, and there was light”. All forms on whatever plane they exist, are
what they were learning in school. What about very small children, I asked one of the teachers, were they not homesick? He admitted that they often were but the youngest children in the school were over seven years old so it was easier to explain to them what they were doing here. I was taken on a tour of the KISS campus and shown the school gym and conference room and the cupboards filled with trophies won by KISS students, some in international competitions. And, I was taken to see a vast dining room in which it was possible for 7,000 children to eat their meals at the same time and by the end of the tour my cynicism had vanished and I began to see Dr. Samanta in a new light.
molded under the law of affinity. Every atom attracts towards itself the atom of its own element; every positive atom attracts the negative atom of its own element; every negative attracts the positive; yet each attraction is different and distinct. These atoms group together and make a form. The atoms of the abstract plane group together and make
MATTER & SPIRIT forms of light and colour; these and all different forms of the finer forces of life are seen by the seer. The forms of the mental plane are composed of the atoms of that plane; these are seen by the mind's eye and are called imagination. On the physical plane this process may e seen in a more concrete form. They mystic sees on the abstract plane one or other element predominating at a certain time, either ether, air, fore, water or earth.
He has built an institution that is replicable and if replicated on a smaller scale in Adivasi areas across India could provide the most powerful weapon to win the war against poverty. The key to winning this war is not by throwing cheap food grain and dole at those living in extreme poverty but by helping them escape the horrors of it by giving them an education. What is commendable about KISS is that it has been built without any help from the government. Not even the land on which the school stands has been given free. This is more than likely to be the main reason why KISS is such a success story because had it been controlled by officials of our many ministries of poverty and rural development I have no doubt at all that they would have interfered in the most unhelpful way. Proof lies in the appalling standards that exist in state institutions for children's welfare across India. From my own work with street children in Mumbai I can tell you that children prefer life in the streets than in the prison-like conditions of government controlled children's homes in this city. When they are locked up for begging or vagrancy I spend days getting them released. So perhaps what we need to win the war against poverty is for more private citizens to do what Dr. Samanta has done in Bhubaneshwar. I have told you his story today because on the flight back to Mumbai I felt ashamed that as a journalist, deeply interested in the war against poverty, I had never even heard of KISS. Every element in the finer forces of life is rendered intelligible by the direction of its activity and color; and the various forms of light show its different rates of activity. For instance the feeling of humor develops into greater humor, and sadness into a deeper sorrow, ad so it is with the imagination: every pleasant thought develops a pleasure and expands into still pleasanter thought, and every disagreeable imagination grows and becomes more intense. Again, on the physical plane we not only see men dwelling together incites and villages, but even beasts and birds living in flocks and herds; coal is found in the coalmine, and gold in the gold-mine; the forest contains thousands of trees, where as the desert holds not a single one. All this proves the power of affinity which collects and groups the kindred atoms, and makes of them numerous forms, there by creating an illusion before the eye of a man who thus forgets the one source in the manifestation of variety. The direction taken by every element to make a form depends upon the nature of its activity. — Hazrat Inayat Khan

Historical facts hidden by 'secular' parties THE “secular” parties have been deliberately hiding some historical facts while launching tirades against the “communal” BJP and RSS: 1. It includes five Indians out of which three were from Mumbai . The pilot is reported to be one of the best for this kind of wide bodied air craft as his past records bear the testimony to it . It is essential that the investigation should be carried out asap with the help of international expertise to ascertain what really did happen to this flight , as it is also alleged that four boarded the plane with stolen passports out of which two Italians had claimed that they are the losers . So the mystery is many fold , now lets hope that we get to the facts at the earliest with the hope that the passengers may survive, if the aircraft had not crashed . — Bikram Banerjea, Mumbai
THE missing Malaysian airplane is a colossal and chilling tragedy. The only silver lining in this heartrending situation is that countries like US, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc., who sometimes squabble amongst themselves, have brushed their differences aside and are cooperating to locate the missing plane. About 40 ships and 30 airplanes from many countries are trying to find the missing plane. This informal co-operation between countries is laudable. If it is an accident, we need to know so that manufacturers can fix the issues; if it is terrorism, we need to know so that we realize that the war on terror has to be intensified.

( ADC , Mar 10 ), indeed the monorail has been inaugurated with much fanfare for a month now for which this city boasts of having it first time in India , however so far the Mumbaikars are concerned they did not get the much required relief from this urban facility for their daily commuting to the work place . Primarily , it has been opened for a very small section of this huge linear metropolis & not connecting either the main hub in the town or that of the suburban area . The ADC report's statistics for the footfalls so far rightly reveals that most of the users have come for a fun ride than for any other purpose . A city comprising of an estimated 6 million daily local train commuters would hardly be able to appreciate such a costly facility , which did not come to their use for the practical purposes . However I still harbour hope that while the complete reach of nearly 20 Km between Wadala & Jacob Circle becomes operational , may be it would cater a bit for those who would use the monorail to commute, living along this route . — Bikram Banerjea, Mumbai

the 2014 LS elections, the Congress seems to have stumbled upon a “novel” idea, viz., Modi’s personal life. The “secular” party thinks that the Gujarat CM is married and has “deserted” his “spouse” without legally separating. If that be so, then the best way to prove this is to first refer to the records in Registrar of Marriages office for the relevant period. If such an entry is indeed found, then the Congress can approach the “estranged” lady and request her to appear before the media to reveal the “truth” to the people of India. If the 130-year-old Party succeeds in this venture, then it could pave the way for it to retain power at the Centre for a record 3rd term. — Arun Malankar, Santacruz

The Secretary, CJP, Teesta Setalvad has filed a strong 41-page affidavit in re-

The nexus of the Gujarat government headed by Narendra Modi, its Crime Branch headed by powerful policemen who have been collaborators of the regime since 2002 and Rais Khan Pathan, a former employee of the organisation who is being used as a proxy in this malicious war have also been exposed. Before this, too, Khan has been 'aided' in his malicious efforts by senior legal functionaries who are politically in allegiance with the Gujarat government (in the Gujarat high court and Supreme Court). He has now been cited as 'witness' by the Crime Branch, Ahmedabad, in this false and malicious case. The timing of this 'FIR' is revealing. On maturity, the same deposits along with interest totaling around Rs.1.26 crore were credited back into the savings account. THE BEST OF THE BOB With Jennifer Aniston, Karlie Kloss and Reese Witherspoon rocking the bob, it's pretty obvious that the short hair trend is back in style in 2014. Rhea Dhanbhoora & Shirley Mistry tell you everything you need to know about the chic do and help you style it to look on-trend
E
veryone has had short hair at some point in their life. Whether it was a blunt cut with bangs when you were in school, a chic hairdo a-la Bipasha Basu or Lara Dutta, a long bob like funny girl Jennifer Aniston or some funky waves like songstress Rihanna — the bob has been doing the rounds on and off the runway for quite a while now. And since celebrities are reverting to this look in preparation for spring/summer 2014, you should consider going short for summer too. Don't worry if you're confused about whether to get a chingrazing bob, a demi-bob or one that skims your shoulders because we're telling you what bob suits your face type, showing you what accessories to dress it up with and telling you what outfits you can opt for to compliment the look and stay your stylish best while keeping up with the trend.
THE BEST STYLE FOR YOUR FacE If you want to look super-stylish, make sure that you get a bob that's best suited to the shape of your face. From triangular and diamond to round and heart-shaped, here are a few bobs that will suit different faces best, along with some celebrity examples to draw inspiration from:
Round faces: Round faces look good with short bobs, but they have to be sleek. You've already got wide sides with a round face, so you don't want to add any more width to your face with a cut that's got too much volume. If you have a short neck, you should get a bob at jaw level but for a longer neck, a little longer is a good idea. Side-swept bangs are better than thick forehead bangs because they add a little definition to a soft, rounded face. If you have a defined chin, this will help the bob look more stylish even if it's short. celebrity bob pick: Katherine Heigl Continued on pg 12 ÂŤ

Square faces: Square faces have strong jaws and quite a lot of angles, so it's best to get a haircut that softens out your jaw. A graduated bob works best for a square face. Choose the one that is short at the back and longer near the jawline in the front, going a little below the jaw. Celebrity bob pick: Olivia Wilde
Heart faces: If you've got a heart-shaped face, you've got a slightly pointed jaw. Bobs look fabulous on faces with this shape, but make sure that it is a long bob. Although you can pull off a chinlength style as well, the ends should be tapered rather than blunt. Sideswept bangs also work very well with this face type. Celebrity bob pick: Jennifer Aniston
Oval faces Oval faces
structure. An Aline bob also works well. Celebrity bob pick: Victoria Beckham
Triangle face: People with this face type can rock a bob near the jawline, but you have to make sure it's not too short. The right length will accentuate your long neck and if you get sideswept bangs and a little volume near the crown, your face can appear softer and rounder. If you're opting for a chin-length cut you should get it with a few waves and layers. Celebrity bob pick: Mila Jovovich
Diamond face: These face types can look very angular and if you get a good cut, you almost won't see the diamond shape. You need an asymmetrical bob which can make you look grown-up and sophisticated. Keep the hair full around the crown but keep your hair flat at the sides because your forehead is narrow as is your chin. This hairstyle will balance out your face shape while accentuating your features. Celebrity bob pick: Vanessa Hudgens
can carry off most hairstyles, but if you're opting for a bob and want it to look fabulous, get a sophisticated bob that shows off your strong jaw line. But, you should add layers so that it's not too sharp and if you've got a high forehead, STYLIng YOUR BOB consider getting long bangs to mask this. Blunt bangs also work. If you think you can't do much with your Celebrity bob pick: Rihanna hair just because it is short, take a look at our recommendations on how you can style it Long face: Long faces can sport trendy for different occasions to achieve bobs, especially if there is a bit of a wave. different looks: The bob shouldn't be too short though, something that ends just below the jaw is Everyday look: For an everyday style that is perfect because it will show off your bone low on maintenance and really quick, simply
blow dry your hair straight and part it in the centre, or slightly off-centre to get long layers framing your face on either side. Think Meg Ryan from You've Got Mail. It is easy to do, looks classy and is very low maintenance. If you want something a little more feminine, use a curling tong and curl your hair. Grab big chunks at random and don't curl your hair too tightly. Once you are done, finish off with a hairspray to make the curls stay put. Work appropriate: If you want a hairstyle that is going to be muted enough for work and still look chic, try the side-swept bob, Sweep most of your hair onto one side, so that you get a heavy fringe. You can also use a round barrel brush to blow dry it to add a more pronounced shape to your bob. Edgy-chic: If you want to look razor sharp and nail the rock-chic look, pin straight hair is the way to go. Straighten each section and spray hair spray liberally. An extreme side parting makes this look all the more edgy, especially if you have an asymmetrical bob. The messy bob: Tousled, just out of bed hair is a great look to wear, but, if you want to add another interesting element to the look, try dutch, fishtail or regularly braiding a 1-3 inch section of your hair from the front and take it to the back of your head. You should stop at the point behind your ear. Pin with bobby pins and loosely curl the rest of your hair. The messier the look, the better! Formal events: For a more formal occasion, you can opt for a retro waves. Pin aside your fringe and curl your hair with a big barrel to create waves. Apply a mousse before your start off to keep the curls in place. Then, unpin your fringe and create a giant pin curl with it to nail the retro look.
look, wear tops and dresses that are offshouldered. This makes your top half look more elongated and draws all the attention to your bob. If you are a little uncertain about going completely off-shoulder, try a one-shoulder top/dress or a strappy one instead. Boatneck clothes Another way to create a canvas where your bob will get the most attention, is by opting for a boatneck blouse or top. This creates a blank look whilst being chic. What's best is that it is an interesting style of clothing, but it doesn't take the attention away from your bob. This is also a more edgy option if off-shouldered tops aren't your style. Racy backs If you are bored of the same old look and want something sexier, pick tops and dresses with a deep or scooped back. This will draw the most attention to your bob and your back and make you look statuesque as well, as it reveals more of the nape of your neck and shoulders than any other style. Ear cuffs Ear cuffs are popular right now and are the perfect accessory to sport with a bob. Not only do they embellish it, but they also ensure that all eyes are on your bob, no matter what the outfit. If you choose to wear a ear cuff, avoid wearing anything around your neck as it will be a definite over kill and will take the attention away from your bob, especially if you have an asymmetrical bob or severe bob.
WHAT TO WEAR If you thought that a bob was going to make your style look monotonous, you couldn't be further away from the truth. In fact, there's tons of different things you can do to put your bob under the spotlight and let it be the star of your look. Here are the clothes and accessories you can experiment with: Strapless clothes If you like a flirty feminine

If you want to look as feminine as possible, shirts with low neckline and dresses in girly colours work well. Lacy tops or with frills and even floral prints look chic and stylish. Long skirts paired with a free-flowing peasant shirt bring out your feminine side. Pastel colours also work really well. t is not about how stunning the dress is. What is more important is how stunning it is going to look on you. To make sure you enhance your best features on your big day and effectively hide the problem areas, take a look at what white wedding dresses will suit your body type.
Pear shaPed >> Make sure the skirt of your dress flares naturally and that your waist is well defined if you’re a pear shape
You are pear shaped if you have a small top and a heavier bottom. With such a shape, your worst areas are in all likelihood, your bottom and thighs. You should be highlighting your bodice and waistline instead. Opt for styles that will highlight your top half, while masking the bottom. Off-shoulder dresses with an empire waist and a long train are excellent, as are A-line dresses that fit and flare. Pick one with a high waistline to give it the illusion of being smaller. If you want to go more traditional, you could even pick a ball gown with a fitted bodice and a full, round skirt. However, stay away from sheath or mermaid dresses as they will stick to your curves.
hourglass Your hips and shoulders are the same size, with a welldefined, narrow waist. If you fall under this category, then you are very lucky as there is hardly anything to worry about. Pick a mermaid, trumpet or sheath silhouette. This will highlight your envious figure and make sure that the fabric clings to the right places. Also, you could choose to highlight only your top half and pick an Aline dress. Add a beaded belt to cinch your waist further.
>> If you have an hourglass shape, you will look great in fitted, mermaid dresses
Inverted trIangle You are an inverted triangle shape if your shoulders are wider than your hips. With such a body shape, it is very important to pick a dress that gives an element of balance to your look. So, pick a ball gown with a full, stiff skirt. The fullness of the skirt will balance your shoulders. If not a ball gown, pick a mermaid skirt. The flare at the bottom will also help make your shoulders look proportionate and make you appear more hourglass shaped. If you don't mind opting for something less traditional, opt for a dress just above your knee length and draw more attention to your legs. This type of dress will make your bottom half look longer and detract the attention from your shoulders. Strapless is fine, but avoid halter dresses, as they will make your shoulders protrude.

Malaika shows off her classy side in this floor-length, textured white gown. The dress is made interesting with the sheer detailing and intricate pattern. We love how she's added a pop of pink on her lips and her necklace. The box clutch is also bang on trend.
Sonam stands out from the sea of black dresses in a revealing berry coloured gown. But, while we love the lace sleeves, the middle portion is far too wide and it looks like the designer ran out of cloth. A sweetheart neckline would have been better.
There are so many things we do not like about this look. The silver and gold, while it's usually a deadly combo, falls flat here. Just like her chapat hair style. Those silver pointy shoes and breastplate style dress do not to save her look.

But, we're sure that if you stand up for yourself it will stop. You work on an equal footing with the rest of your office and there's no reason your co-workers should boss you around. The quieter you are about it, the more it will happen. So, speak up. Now!
“H

Could you take over?”. These are some of the questions that you might face on a daily basis if you are the office doormat. Before you start hating your
colleagues, we'd like to point out that it is entirely possible that your colleagues are doing it without realising it and it's probably happening because you don't know how and when to say no. However, sometimes it is absolutely necessary that you do. These questions will help you find out whether you need to:

we tell you how to deal with SMokerS at work A colleague of mine has a penchant for sending forwarded messages that are not only uninteresting but land up in my inbox at such ungodly hours that it has become annoying as well. My colleagues and I have been replying to the mails politely so that she doesn't feel bad. However, it’s become quite irritating. What can we do? — arunima Shah, andheri dear arunima You and your team have been encouraging your colleague to bombard with you annoying forwards by replying to them. Your responses are almost like the stamp of approval that she is looking for. Your situation has a simple solution — stop responding to her mails. She will soon realise that none of you are interested in what she sends and she will stop doing
so. Refrain from bringing it up with her unless you absolutely have to, as you run the chance of her feeling bad. Just don't reply to her emails and wait and watch. She should get the message. Our office has a strict nosmoking policy and the one smoking zone we have is a little far away from our office. Due to this, my colleagues who smoke, have started smoking in the fire escape staircase. The problem is that I have to cross this area on my way to the rest room and every time I go, I have to deal with the smell of cigarettes and sometimes, second hand smoke. Since almost a majority of my office, including my boss, smokes, I am scared of bringing this up. What should I do? — heena pandit, chembur
dear heena, If you have the courage to speak up, the next time you see someone smoking, just request them to smoke in the designated area as it bothers you. However, if you don’t think you will be able to do so, you could leave an anonymous complaint with the HR. No need to mention any names — just say that the cigarette smell bothers you and you shouldn't have to deal with second hand smoke — which is irritating and also bad for health. You could also talk to your boss — even though he/ she himself is a smoker, we are sure that most logical bosses will see seeing that what is happening is wrong. I was recently feeling a bit restless at my current job and wanted a change. So, I took stock of things and decided that it was time for me to change jobs. I loved where I was working, but was ready for new challenges. So... I accepted a job in a fantastic new company! Welcome aboard! Thank you! I can’t wait to begin!
I am thrilled! I have met a lot of the people I work with and am raring to go and be part of their team. But...
Now that the time has come to leave my old workplace...
Y
ou've broken up with your man and have vowed never to speak to him again. But, in today's age of easy communication, a simple poke on Facebook or status message on Whatsapp can have you spiralling down the path of forgiveness, making you forget why you broke up in the first place. So, if you want to call it quits for good, we tell you how to stick to the plan.
Let's not be friends From celebrities to your best friend — you're going to have a number of people around you who seem to have mastered the art of staying friends with their exes. However, instead of taking a leaf from their books, we recommend you listen to us. Avoid any sort of contact with your ex, at least for the immediate future. It might seem like an extreme step, but you need to let it sink in that your boyfriend is no longer a major part of your life.
take care of yourseLf You might never have thought of it this way, but apart from the obvious reasons, you also need to take care of your emotional health to ensure that you don't start comparing your current situation to a time when you were in your relationship. This would lead you to conclude, usually incorrectly, that you were much happier before and so, maybe the breakup was a bad idea, after all.
Goodbye memories It’s recommended that you pack up all pictures, gifts and other mementos from your time with your ex, for the time being. One day, you will be mature enough to look at them
with just the right amount of nostalgia and without second guessing your decision. But, now is not the time for that. Keep the memories safe — don't discard them — but don't keep them in a place where you can access them easily.
sociaL media precautions
I am having a full white wedding in May and my problem is with my future MIL. I asked her what she would be wearing to the wedding and she said she would show me. It was a wedding dress! A simple white shift, that looked very bridal. I am shocked but do not know how to handle the situation. She is really nice otherwise. What do I do?! — danielle d’costa, malad
This was the place I entered as a wide-eyed 20-year-old fresher...
It just takes one seemingly emotional Facebook post for you to think “Hmm, maybe he's changed. Why not give it another try?” It is thoughts like these that you want to avoid and if you feel that you can't fight these random urges to get back together, you should consider un-friending him on Facebook and not following him on Twitter or Instagram.
keep a note This is a really good way to remind yourself why you broke up. Over time, it is possible that you will forget the small fights that went on to become huge problems. So, when you break up, note down all the reasons that made you decide that it was the best course of action. Try and keep strong emotions at bay while writing down the reasons though — you don't want these notes to make you a vindictive, unforgiving person.
I have been through so much with these people... ...working together, late nights grumpy and exhausted, lunches, gossip, celebrations and sadness, lots of chats, lots of laughter, lots of learning...
the friend Everyone has that one friend. This friend understands you and sometimes, can see what's better for you even when you can't. So, when you break-up, extract a promise from your best friend, that she will not let you get back with your ex, no matter what! However, keep in mind that if you are unwilling to listen to reason when the time comes, it might lead to an ugly fight.
« DEAR GRAcE, I HAvE A pRoBlEm... dear Grace,
I have been feeling a bit miserable.
dear danielle, Always approach this situation assuming that the other person has no idea what wedding etiquette is. Innocent until proven guilty! So, be gentle, it is your future MIL after all and you don't want to start your married life on a bad note. The best way to deal with this is to get your fiancé involved. Both of you should tell her that while the dress is lovely (say why you like it), you were
hoping the bride would be the only one in white so that she would stand out in pictures. Offer to dye the dress for her or if you're feeling extra generous, pick up a new one for her. If she is adamant on wearing her white dress to your wedding, let it go. Remember, she's going to be the one who is going to look silly! Send your questions to womansworld@afternoondc.in

Make an effort to keep in touch! b) All change is challenging, and nostalgia is a vortex. Focus on why you wanted a change. You were new at your old job once! c) Sure. Stay... Things can remain the same indefinitely and will never change. And you can gather moss as a plus. Stay! eliance Industries has refuted allegations by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that oil ministers Mani Shankar Aiyar and S Jaipal Reddy were removed because they did not favour the company, saying the “malafide propaganda” was “factually incorrect.” Terming as “malafide propaganda” AAP’s allegation that Aiyar had to go because he opposed RIL’s move to raise KG-D6 capital expenditure 2.5 times, the company said Aiyar left the oil ministry in January 2006 while the revised USD 8.8 billion field development plan was submitted in October 2006. On allegations that Reddy was removed because he opposed higher gas prices for RIL, the company said, “It was Jaipal Reddy (and not current Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily) who requested for the appointment of the Dr Rangarajan Committee in May 2012. It was on this committee’s recommendations, the CCEA approved the revised gas prices (from April 2014).” The Rangarajan Committee suggested that domestically produced gas should be priced at an average of global hub rates and the cost of importing liquid gas (LNG) into India. According to this formula, the price of gas is being increased to about USD 8 per unit in April. The current rate of USD 4.205 per million British thermal units for gas from RIL’s eastern offshore KG-D6 field expires on March 31. “The prices had to be revised not because of the elections but because the prevailing price formula ceases to be valid with effect from April 1, 2014,” RIL said in documents it released giving a detailed account of facts and arguments aimed at countering its critics. On AAP’s allegation that the price hike would result in a windfall of Rs 54,000 crore for RIL, the company said the new rates will raise the revenue earned on the country’s entire gas production by Rs 26,000 crore. “Of this increase, Rs 12,000 crore comes back to the government as royalty, profit petroleum, taxes and dividend. The share of RIL and its partners is only Rs 3,000 crore (not Rs 54,500 crore), which goes to meeting capital as well as operational costs before it can be counted as profit,” it said. Gas from KG-D6 barely makes up 15 per cent of the na-
tion’s entire production of the fuel. Responding to an allegation that the cost of KG-D6 gas production was less than USD 1 per mmBtu, the firm said, “The cost of production as alleged is nothing but postproduction costs between the well-head and delivery point, which in 2009-10 was estimated as USD 0.89 per mmBtu for that year.” Apart from the post-production cost of USD 0.89, expenditure is incurred on discovery, appraisal, development production and maintenance, it said. “The figure was required because royalty on gas produced was to be paid at the well head value, whose value had to be derived by subtracting the post-well head cost (USD 0.89) from the approved price of USD 4.2 per mmBtu. “Post-production cost between the well head and delivery point is only a small component of the total cost of production,” RIL said. To calculate the cost of production, in addition to the post-production cost between well head and delivery point of USD 0.89 per mmBtu, the expenditure incurred on discovery, appraisal, development production and maintenance will need to be considered. Reacting to AAP’s allegation that the government had offered wells to RIL, the company said no drilled wells or discovered fields were made available to companies through NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy). “KG-D6 was offered as a deep water exploration block with little data and no drilled wells with discoveries” and the company had put in its risk capital to find gas, RIL said, adding that, there was “not even an iota of substance” in the allegation that it deliberately reduced gas production and hoarded the fuel in anticipation of the higher price. Hoarding is technically impossible. Any attempt to hold back production in an existing field immediately shows up in pressure anomalies in the affected wells. “Each well is like the release valve of a huge pressure cooker where the oil and gas has literally been cooking for millions of years - hold back gas in one and the pressure difference is immediately apparent in the next. Simply put, if gas is being hoarded, pressure in all producing wells cannot decline uniformly because pressure decline is a sure sign that the pressure cooker is running out of steam,” it added.

ndia's Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry is likely to grow at 14.2% to more than Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the next four years. "The media and entertainment industry is expected to register a CAGR of 14.2% to touch Rs 1,78,580 crore by 2018," said a Ficci-KPMG report released today at the FICCI Frames 2014 event here. Ficci's M&E Committee chairman and Star India CEO Uday Shankar said: "Amidst an environment of gloom and doom, the media and entertainment industry registered an impressive growth of 12% last year. "The fact that we have been able to deliver this in light of an overall economic growth of 4% and a major resetting of exchange rates is a testament to the tenacity of the industry's leaders and stakeholders." In 2013, M&E industry's growth rate remained muted, with a slow GDP growth and a weak rupee. The industry grew at 11.8% over 2012 and touched Rs 91,800 crore. "Lower GDP (in 2013) meant lower demand from the consumer and this im-
pacted advertising," the report said, adding that this added to slower revenue growth. The report sees digital advertising witnessing the highest Compounded Average Growth Rate (CAGR) of 27.7% by 2018. The addition of new media such as social networking services, animation and VFX, online gaming and applications running on mobile devices, has given a new dimension to the world of media that was usually dominated by traditional media, it said. According to the report, the television industry in the country which is estimated at Rs 41,700 crore in 2013, is expected to grow at 16% over 2013-2018, to touch Rs 88,500 crore by 2018. KPMG Head of M&E Jehil Thakkar said: "Once the television industry completes the entire process of digitisation, including the required back end infrastructure, it will result in increased top and bottom-line across the industry." The report said that aided by digitisation and the consequent increase in average revenue per user (ARPU), the share of subscription revenue to the total in-
dustry revenue is expected to increase from 67% in 2013 to 71% in 2018. It said the print sector continues to remain resilient. In 2014, the growth in print sector is also expected to be promising with the general elections. "The print industry is estimated to reach Rs 24,300 crore, a growth of 8.5% in 2014 and by 2018, it will grow at 9% to reach Rs 37,300 crore," it said. Thakkar said: "Print had a better year and regional performed well. Elections this year will also provide a boost to the industry." The film industry recorded a double digit growth in 2013, albeit slower than in 2012, with multiple movies scoring big on box office collections. According to the report, going forward, multiplexes' growth is expected to slow down, in line with the overall delays and future expectations for retail sector and commercial real estate development, impacting box office growth in the short term. Highlighting the new media, it said the total Internet user base in the country, which grew 40% at 21.4 crore in 2013, is likely to reach 23.9 crore by end 2014.

Handicapped by the absence of regular captain and key bowler Stuart Broad because of injury, England nevertheless proved far more competitive than in the first match on Sunday, although their poor start with the bat and inability to sustain the effort in the field eventually cost them dearly. "I though we were about 15-20 runs short at the end," stand-in England skipper Eoin Morgan conceded. "We showed a lot of fight though, which is good heading into the World Cup."

ARIS: Holders Bayern Munich kept their hopes alive of becoming the first team to retain the Champions League trophy while Atletico Madrid also progressed to the quarter-finals of this season's competition. Bayern who have reached the final of the past two Champions League campaigns were held 1-1 in Munich by Arsenal, but just as they did last year against the same opposition at the same stage, the Germans went through, this time 3-1 on aggregate yesterday. However Bayern's joy at going through was somewhat soured after Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger accused Dutch wing Arjen Robben of diving throughout the two legs. "Robben dived tonight (he was told to get up by the referee when he went down early in the second-half in the penalty area) and he dived in the first leg," said Wenger. Robben, who won a penalty for Bayern in the first leg which saw the Arsenal goalkeeper sent off, was dismissive of the remarks. "Great managers don't need to resort to claims like that. I don't want to have to defend myself against remarks like that," he said. Guardiola, who has won the trophy twice as coach of Barcelona, looked annoyed when told about the comments.
‘Small’ signs of hope for Schumacher: family
GRENOBLE (FRANCE): Michael Schumacher is showing "small, encouraging signs" of recovery from injuries sustained in a ski accident, his family said, while acknowledging the Formula One legend faced a long battle ahead. The family voiced confidence the 45-year-old would pull through after 11 weeks in a medically induced coma but declined to give further details of his condition. "We are and remain confident that Michael will pull through and will wake up," said the statement. "There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know that this is the time to be very patient." The German driver was put into a coma after hitting his head on a rock while skiing at the French resort of Meribel on December 29. Schumacher's agent Sabine Kehm released the statement ahead of the first Formula One grand prix of the year in Australia on Sunday.

Simeone, a former combative Argentinian international midfielder who was capped over 100 times, said he was proud of his side and tried to play down expectations by saying Atletico were very much the underdogs still. "It is a very nice moment, after such a long time," said the 43-year-old Simeone. "But we are still at the beginning of the knockout stages, and we must continue to get better. A difficult and dangerous quarterfinal awaits us and we will have to recuperate and continue on the path we are following. There will be seven great sides in the last eight and one which will be very enthusiastic and capable of upsetting the others."As for Diego Costa he continues to progress, he has great physical strength and presence. All change as Formula One enters new era T
he prospect of seeing Sebastian Vettel beaten for the first time since last July is just one of the many novelties Sunday's season-opening Australian Formula One Grand Prix promises to deliver. Just how much trouble Vettel's Red Bull team might be in is one of the questions waiting for an answer as the sport's unpredictable new turbo era whooshes into action at Melbourne's Albert Park circuit. The quadruple world champion won the last nine races of 2013 but the 26-year-old German spent much of his time during the pre-season tests in Spain and Bahrain watching the car being worked on in the garage. Red Bull are braced for a reality check as they and partners Renault work against the clock to fix the troublesome 1.6 litre V6 hybrid turbo engine and its complicated new energy recovery systems. Rivals Mercedes, under new leadership following the departure of Ross Brawn, have been racking up the laps with far less hassle. "Mercedes have got a bit of a march on people. They invested more, they invested earlier. They've got themselves into a good position," Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told

IN BRIEF We need an aggressive skipper for 2015 World Cup: Wasim
KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram has raised question marks over the captaincy of Misbah-ulHaq and said the PCB needs to appointment a brave and aggressive skipper for the 2015 World Cup. The former seamer told reporters here that while there was no question about Misbah-ulHaq's batting performances, the situation was not the same about his captaincy. "They are question marks about his captaincy," he said. Asked about the possibility of PCB appointing Shahid Afridi as captain for next World Cup, Wasim said this was something for the board to ponder and decide. "All I would say is that we need to have a brave and aggressive captain for the World Cup. Because we need to play positive cricket to do well," he added. Wasim said Pakistan had adopted the wrong approach for the Asia Cup final where it was defeated by Sri Lanka. "I thought the decision to bat first was not correct, we should have stuck with our winning formula throughout the tournament."
PCB ruing Pakistan's wasted opportunities during ICC revamp
KARACHI: The present set-up in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is still ruing a golden opportunity wasted by the deposed chairman of the board, Zaka Ashraf who declined a chance for Pakistan cricket to make big financial gains and have a bigger say in world cricket affairs. According to a reliable PCB official, BCCI had last month offered some strong incentives to PCB to support the structural changes in the International Cricket Council (ICC) that were championed by India, Australia and England. "Some of the incentives offered to Pakistan in pure money terms guaranteed earnings of around 200 million dollars over the next few years from playing bilateral series with India and other countries and more rewarding broadcasting deals," the source told PTI.

Sebastain Vettel during the Red Bull testing session at Bahrain. reporters. "If Mercedes were to finish two laps ahead of the opposition in Melbourne, that wouldn't be a surprise, based on what we've seen in pre-season testing. It's massive. "From what we can see at the moment, all the Mercedes powered teams are in pretty decent shape and we're not. "We're on the back foot, and have a lot of ground to catch up," added the Briton, who now has Australian Daniel Ricciardo in the lineup following compatriot Mark Webber's retirement.
HAMILTON CONFIDENT Horner's words may be a part of the pre-season mind games, repositioning Red Bull as underdogs but Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg have
sounded quietly confident about a car that is sleeker than many of its 'ugly' new-look rivals. "With all the changes within the sport and the hard work that's been going on within the team, I believe this can be our year to really show what we're capable of," said Hamilton, the 2008 world champion with McLaren. "I feel like I'm equipped with the tools I need to succeed. I can't wait to get started," added the Briton, whose win in Hungary last July was the last by anyone other than Vettel. Ferrari will be hoping to challenge with their new lineup of champions following the return of Finland's 2007 title winner Kimi Raikkonen - triumphant in Melbourne for Lotus last year - to partner Fernando Alonso.
BHOPAL: Thirty-two teams will be participating in the 4th Senior Women's Hockey Championship, which will be held here from today. "A total of 32 teams representing different states and nearly 650 hockey players will take part in the championship to be played at Aishbagh stadium and Major Dhyan Chand stadium," Madhya Pradesh sports director V K Singh told reporters. The 11-day-long championship will be played in two divisions with each having 16 teams. The matches for the first phase will be held from March 13 while the second phase starts from March 16, he said.
