It has been found that at Narmada Kidney Foundation (NKF), more than 70 per cent of the active transplant patients have got a kidney from a lady donor. Dr. Bharat Shah, Founder of NKF and Director of Institute of Renal Sciences, Global Hospital said, “I went through the data at NKF and found out that out of the 369 transplant patients following up with me since 1990, 76 per cent had got a kidney from a woman. This is how giving women are. They don't think twice before helping their family members”, said Dr. Shah. On World Kidney Day today (March 13), the ADC gets you stories of elderly mothers who donated their kidneys to their children and of a daughter who owes the life she is leading today to her mother who at the age of 70, by donating a kidney, gifted her a new life. These smiling and full of life elderly women on Wednesday spoke about their lives after the surgeries at a gathering at Global Hospital, Parel to increase awareness about Chronic Kidney Diseases and aging, the theme of World Kidney Day, this year.

Anything for our children: Sita Sankarnarayan (74) from Borivali donated her kidney to her 42-year-old daughter Deepa in March 2013 when Deepa was diagnosed with kidney problems in September 2012. “She was on dialysis from September 2012 to March 2013 but she used to frequently get fever and that was not a good sign. So I decided that it is best that she undergoes a transplant and I was ready to give my kidney, provided the doctors found it suitable”, said Sita. “Which mother would think twice to do anything that would help her child? I had absolutely no apprehensions. Yes, there were people who told me that after donating, my quality of life would be affected. I will not be able to walk. I will have retina detachment and what not. But I never believed all of these because, I myself being educated, knew that the donor does not face any danger as long as you are with the right doctor and are fit to donate. I went ahead and donated my kidney. This was in March

Sixty eight-year-old Lalitha Menon, another doting mother from Malabar Hill who always believed in leading a healthy lifestyle said, “Keeping myself healthy has paid off. I could donate a healthy kidney to my son who was 48 when he underwent the transplant in April 2013”. Lalitha who was diagnosed with cardiac issues fifteen years ago and has a pacemaker, was ready to donate her kidney but was worried that her cardiac problem might not let her do so. But given the healthy lifestyle she has been maintaining, the doctors found her perfectly fit for a kidney transplant and a happy mother was all set to give her son her kidney.

Metal detector frames placed at gates of Churchgate station after 26/11 blasts were uprooted and its parts were seen dissembled due to the large crowd of people gathered here. However, railway officials justified that it was just an accident because of uncontrolled crowd so no complaint has been filed against anyone. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was seen climbing a railway compound wall at Andheri station to address his party workers who had gathered on the road for which he did not have an official permission. wo employees – Nitin Joshi (29) and Shekhar Patil (30) – working in a shop in Hyatt Hotel, Kalina, were recently thrashed by Dr. Naveen Rao, the owner of the shop (Mihaus, a luxurious audio visual shop) they were working for and national head of the company Charu Makin. Rao and Charu also allegedly forced Joshi and Patil to file a false complaint against store manager Manoj Lokhande for a monetary fraud. The shop is situated in Hyatt hotel, G8 and G9. Senior police inspector Vinayak Mulay of Vakola police station said, “We have registered a case against Rao and Makin under section 342 wrongful confinement, 324 causing hurt by dangerous weapon, 506 criminal intimidation and 34 common intention. Both the accused are not arrested but are wanted in the case”. Joshi and Patil both have worked for the company for

over seven years. Joshi said, “On March 6, Rao and Makin behaved in a weird way. They began abusing me and Patil”. Patil said, “They called me in a room began hitting me with a rod. There are serious bruises on my legs.” Joshi said, “While I was banging the door and asked Rao to open it, he came out and hit me with the same rod”. Meanwhile, Makin abused the two. Oshiwara police arrest man who changes IMEI numbers of robbed mobile phones By Zuber Ansari

ince the past two years, the Oshiwara police have been unable to trace the mobile phones being robbed in the locality. They were supposedly unaware that it is possible to change the International Mobile-station Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of mobile phones. On Wednesday, the Oshiwara police solved this mystery and arrested a 25-year-old software engineer who had changed the IMEI number of several phones. This IT crime came to light after a man named Ajit Shaikh, a businessman, approached the Cell Spot shop located in Sunshine building at Lokhandwala to sell his mobile phone. “The accused Mayank Kumar told me that I will be able to use the phone without any problem and do not have to sell it in such a low price. He demanded Rs.1,000 from me and said that I can use the phone without being

detected”, Shaikh said. I suspected foul play and did not reveal that the phone belongs to me. After installing some software, Kumar gave me the phone. I came out of the shop and noticed that the IMEI number of my phone had changed”, said Shaikh in his complaint to the police. After Shaikh approached the police, he was asked to go back to Kumar as the officers needed to nab him red handed. “On Wednesday, Shaikh went back to Kumar and asked him to repeat it on another phone. When Kumar installed the software we laid a trap and arrested him under various sections of the IT Act”, said PI Baburao Mukhedkar of Oshiwara police station. milk in the city. Food Inspector Sarla Sachin Khatawkar asked him to meet Assistant Commissioner (Food-Additional Charge) Gautam Vishwanath Jagtap who demanded Rs.2 lakh to help them out of the case. The man paid a sum of Rs.1 lakh in advance but almost after six months (August 2013), Sarla Khatawkar rung him up and asked him to meet her at D' Mart Shopping Mall in Vashi demanding Rs.50,000. The man then forcefully paid Rs.25,000 to her, sources said. In December 2013, the complainant was shocked after he got a call from FDABandra asking him to appear

This time the complainant approached the ACB and lodged a complaint on Monday. Proof lies in the appalling standards that exist in state institutions for children's welfare across India. From my own work with street children in Mumbai I can tell you that children prefer life in the streets than in the prison-like conditions of government controlled children's homes in this city. When they are locked up for begging or vagrancy I spend days getting them released. So perhaps what we need to win the war against poverty is for more private citizens to do what Dr. Samanta has done in Bhubaneshwar. I have told you his story today because on the flight back to Mumbai I felt ashamed that as a journalist, deeply interested in the war against poverty, I had never even heard of KISS. Every element in the finer forces of life is rendered intelligible by the direction of its activity and color; and the various forms of light show its different rates of activity. For instance the feeling of humor develops into greater humor, and sadness into a deeper sorrow, ad so it is with the imagination: every pleasant thought develops a pleasure and expands into still pleasanter thought, and every disagreeable imagination grows and becomes more intense. t is not about how stunning the dress is. What is more important is how stunning it is going to look on you. To make sure you enhance your best features on your big day and effectively hide the problem areas, take a look at what white wedding dresses will suit your body type.

Pear shaPed >> Make sure the skirt of your dress flares naturally and that your waist is well defined if you’re a pear shape

You are pear shaped if you have a small top and a heavier bottom. With such a shape, your worst areas are in all likelihood, your bottom and thighs. You should be highlighting your bodice and waistline instead. Opt for styles that will highlight your top half, while masking the bottom. Off-shoulder dresses with an empire waist and a long train are excellent, as are A-line dresses that fit and flare. Pick one with a high waistline to give it the illusion of being smaller. If you want to go more traditional, you could even pick a ball gown with a fitted bodice and a full, round skirt. However, stay away from sheath or mermaid dresses as they will stick to your curves.

hourglass Your hips and shoulders are the same size, with a welldefined, narrow waist. If you fall under this category, then you are very lucky as there is hardly anything to worry about. Pick a mermaid, trumpet or sheath silhouette. This will highlight your envious figure and make sure that the fabric clings to the right places. Also, you could choose to highlight only your top half and pick an Aline dress. Add a beaded belt to cinch your waist further.

Inverted trIangle You are an inverted triangle shape if your shoulders are wider than your hips. With such a body shape, it is very important to pick a dress that gives an element of balance to your look. So, pick a ball gown with a full, stiff skirt. The fullness of the skirt will balance your shoulders. If not a ball gown, pick a mermaid skirt. The flare at the bottom will also help make your shoulders look proportionate and make you appear more hourglass shaped. If you don't mind opting for something less traditional, opt for a dress just above your knee length and draw more attention to your legs. This type of dress will make your bottom half look longer and detract the attention from your shoulders. Strapless is fine, but avoid halter dresses, as they will make your shoulders protrude.

Malaika shows off her classy side in this floor-length, textured white gown. The dress is made interesting with the sheer detailing and intricate pattern. We love how she's added a pop of pink on her lips and her necklace. The box clutch is also bang on trend.

Sonam stands out from the sea of black dresses in a revealing berry coloured gown. But, while we love the lace sleeves, the middle portion is far too wide and it looks like the designer ran out of cloth. A sweetheart neckline would have been better.

There are so many things we do not like about this look. The silver and gold, while it's usually a deadly combo, falls flat here. Just like her chapat hair style. Those silver pointy shoes and breastplate style dress do not to save her look.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: The Nifty rose marginally on Wednesday (March 12, 2014) a net 5 points (0.08%) and closed at the 6516 point level. The market opened down at the 6497 points level. It then declined sharply into the red and registered the day’s low at the 6487 points level at 9.54 a.m. The index then rose sharply, into the green and registered the day’s high at the 6546 points level at 10.31 a.m. It then declined and turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty witnessed a volatile session and moved in a range of 59 points. Sentiment was bearish and amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 30 were losers, 19 were gainers and 1 remained unchanged. Substantial buying was seen in healthcare and FMCG stocks, while selling was seen in PSU, capital goods, oil & gas, auto, power, banking, metal and realty stocks.

eliance Industries has refuted allegations by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that oil ministers Mani Shankar Aiyar and S Jaipal Reddy were removed because they did not favour the company, saying the “malafide propaganda” was “factually incorrect.” Terming as “malafide propaganda” AAP’s allegation that Aiyar had to go because he opposed RIL’s move to raise KG-D6 capital expenditure 2.5 times, the company said Aiyar left the oil ministry in January 2006 while the revised USD 8.8 billion field development plan was submitted in October 2006. On allegations that Reddy was removed because he opposed higher gas prices for RIL, the company said, “It was Jaipal Reddy (and not current Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily) who requested for the appointment of the Dr Rangarajan Committee in May 2012. It was on this committee’s recommendations, the CCEA approved the revised gas prices (from April 2014).” The Rangarajan Committee suggested that domestically produced gas should be priced at an average of global hub rates and the cost of importing liquid gas (LNG) into India. According to this formula, the price of gas is being increased to about USD 8 per unit in April. The current rate of USD 4.205 per million British thermal units for gas from RIL’s eastern offshore KG-D6 field expires on March 31. “The prices had to be revised not because of the elections but because the prevailing price formula ceases to be valid with effect from April 1, 2014,” RIL said in documents it released giving a detailed account of facts and arguments aimed at countering its critics. On AAP’s allegation that the price hike would result in a windfall of Rs 54,000 crore for RIL, the company said the new rates will raise the revenue earned on the country’s entire gas production by Rs 26,000 crore. “Of this increase, Rs 12,000 crore comes back to the government as royalty, profit petroleum, taxes and dividend. The share of RIL and its partners is only Rs 3,000 crore (not Rs 54,500 crore), which goes to meeting capital as well as operational costs before it can be counted as profit,” it said. Gas from KG-D6 barely makes up 15 per cent of the na-

tion’s entire production of the fuel. Responding to an allegation that the cost of KG-D6 gas production was less than USD 1 per mmBtu, the firm said, “The cost of production as alleged is nothing but postproduction costs between the well-head and delivery point, which in 2009-10 was estimated as USD 0.89 per mmBtu for that year.” Apart from the post-production cost of USD 0.89, expenditure is incurred on discovery, appraisal, development production and maintenance, it said. “The figure was required because royalty on gas produced was to be paid at the well head value, whose value had to be derived by subtracting the post-well head cost (USD 0.89) from the approved price of USD 4.2 per mmBtu. “Post-production cost between the well head and delivery point is only a small component of the total cost of production,” RIL said. To calculate the cost of production, in addition to the post-production cost between well head and delivery point of USD 0.89 per mmBtu, the expenditure incurred on discovery, appraisal, development production and maintenance will need to be considered. Reacting to AAP’s allegation that the government had offered wells to RIL, the company said no drilled wells or discovered fields were made available to companies through NELP (New Exploration Licensing Policy). “KG-D6 was offered as a deep water exploration block with little data and no drilled wells with discoveries” and the company had put in its risk capital to find gas, RIL said, adding that, there was “not even an iota of substance” in the allegation that it deliberately reduced gas production and hoarded the fuel in anticipation of the higher price. Hoarding is technically impossible. Any attempt to hold back production in an existing field immediately shows up in pressure anomalies in the affected wells. “Each well is like the release valve of a huge pressure cooker where the oil and gas has literally been cooking for millions of years - hold back gas in one and the pressure difference is immediately apparent in the next. Simply put, if gas is being hoarded, pressure in all producing wells cannot decline uniformly because pressure decline is a sure sign that the pressure cooker is running out of steam,” it added.

ndia's Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry is likely to grow at 14.2% to more than Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the next four years. "The media and entertainment industry is expected to register a CAGR of 14.2% to touch Rs 1,78,580 crore by 2018," said a Ficci-KPMG report released today at the FICCI Frames 2014 event here. Ficci's M&E Committee chairman and Star India CEO Uday Shankar said: "Amidst an environment of gloom and doom, the media and entertainment industry registered an impressive growth of 12% last year. "The fact that we have been able to deliver this in light of an overall economic growth of 4% and a major resetting of exchange rates is a testament to the tenacity of the industry's leaders and stakeholders." In 2013, M&E industry's growth rate remained muted, with a slow GDP growth and a weak rupee. The industry grew at 11.8% over 2012 and touched Rs 91,800 crore. "Lower GDP (in 2013) meant lower demand from the consumer and this im-

pacted advertising," the report said, adding that this added to slower revenue growth. The report sees digital advertising witnessing the highest Compounded Average Growth Rate (CAGR) of 27.7% by 2018. The addition of new media such as social networking services, animation and VFX, online gaming and applications running on mobile devices, has given a new dimension to the world of media that was usually dominated by traditional media, it said. According to the report, the television industry in the country which is estimated at Rs 41,700 crore in 2013, is expected to grow at 16% over 2013-2018, to touch Rs 88,500 crore by 2018. KPMG Head of M&E Jehil Thakkar said: "Once the television industry completes the entire process of digitisation, including the required back end infrastructure, it will result in increased top and bottom-line across the industry." The report said that aided by digitisation and the consequent increase in average revenue per user (ARPU), the share of subscription revenue to the total in-

dustry revenue is expected to increase from 67% in 2013 to 71% in 2018. It said the print sector continues to remain resilient. In 2014, the growth in print sector is also expected to be promising with the general elections. "The print industry is estimated to reach Rs 24,300 crore, a growth of 8.5% in 2014 and by 2018, it will grow at 9% to reach Rs 37,300 crore," it said. Thakkar said: "Print had a better year and regional performed well. Elections this year will also provide a boost to the industry." The film industry recorded a double digit growth in 2013, albeit slower than in 2012, with multiple movies scoring big on box office collections. According to the report, going forward, multiplexes' growth is expected to slow down, in line with the overall delays and future expectations for retail sector and commercial real estate development, impacting box office growth in the short term. Highlighting the new media, it said the total Internet user base in the country, which grew 40% at 21.4 crore in 2013, is likely to reach 23.9 crore by end 2014.

Swara Bhaskar of I feel both honoured and privileged to be part of this prestigious venture and to be directed by a legend such ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Tanu as Shyam Benegal so early in my career. Having grown up watching ‘Bharat Ek Khoj’, it is very special for me to have worked with Shyam sir, the man responsible for so much that is admirable in and right about Weds Manu’, ‘Aurangzeb' and Hindi cinema over the last 30 years. Possibly one of the most erudite people I've met, the time I was ‘Listen Amaya’ fame will tell you blessed to spend with Shyam Babu has been such a pleasure, a lesson and an eye-opener for me. He is a very alert director and comes always prepared on the sets with all his homework done. the tale of how the Indian Constitution was born offering How did you bag such a well-conceived show? When Atul (Tiwari) sir and Shama Zaidi, both the writers of the series first narrated to me a interesting insights as the anchor of the couple of episodes of 'Samvidhaan', I was stunned by how dramatic the story of the birth of the Indian Constitution was, and impressed by the glorious tale. Atul sir and Shama ma'am TV series ‘Samvidhaan’. Filmed partly are stalwart writers of the industry and dramatising the Constituent Assembly debates into a within the Parliament of India, drama with such apparent ease is a feat they must be applauded for and I was ready to host the show. 'Samvidhaan' is a 10-part mini-series on the birth of the Indian Constitution directed How was it like working on the show? Just speaking their beautifully etched, poetic Hindi and Urdu dialogues has been my greatest by veteran Shyam Benegal, written by Shama pleasure and my toughest challenge. For the first time in the history of Indian film or Zaidi and Atul television, a shooting has taken place within the actual precincts of the Parliament of India. I feel honoured to have been the sole actor involved in that shoot. I can say that after having shot Tiwari and for 'Samvidhaan' I am a doubly proud Indian. "A total of 32 teams representing different states and nearly 650 hockey players will take part in the championship to be played at Aishbagh stadium and Major Dhyan Chand stadium," Madhya Pradesh sports director V K Singh told reporters.
