This long pending proposal will be a reality soon, after officials of the Mumbai Traffic Police recently met with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate and got a positive response to this unique proposal. The drunken driving campaign was initiated in June 2007 to arrest the increasing number of fatal mishaps. From June 2007 to March 25 this year, the traffic police have recorded 91,891 cases of drunk driving. Of these, 48,377 offenders were sentenced to simple imprisonment and driving licences of 41,835 offenders were suspended by magistrate courts. There have also been instances of offenders reportedly approaching the court, complaining of being wrongly booked. With this new system, instant punishment will be given to offenders on the spot. Speaking to the ADC, Vivek Phansalkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “This is a proposal we have sent to the Registrar of the Bombay High Court and the matter

The Hydraulic Department officials said, “We have simple calculations – on September 30, we need 12.5 lakh million litres of water in all our reservoirs to meet the demand of the city. Whether the dams get full in July or August is immaterial for us. We measure the amount of water only on September 30. However, the water level in the Bhatsa dam, the major supplier of water to the city is still 12 meters below the overflow mark. Bhatsa has a huge capacity but is experiencing insufficient rains as compared to the other dams.

State to come out with comprehensive policy on Mobile Towers

Even after paying fees for the use of a playground and gymnasium, city college students have been found playing on the streets outside their college premises. The reason behind this is that most city colleges lack playgrounds and gymnasiums, while colleges equipped with playgrounds are now turning them into construction sites for new projects or institutions. Having no place to practice or play within the college campus for competitions and championships, students have been forced to practice and play on the streets. The Std V student has no idea as to how long she will have to make do with the old uniform as she is yet to get a new set from her municipal school in Bhayandar. Geeta is not alone, but is among the 9,859 students who are enrolled with 35 schools in the twin-city being run by the education department of the Mira Bhayandar Municpal Corporation (MBMC).

Apart from uniforms, the students are yet to get their shoes, school-bags and even books! While 21 of the 35 schools offer education in Marathi medium, four schools are of Hindi medium and five each of Gujarati and Urdu medium. “Despite of my official intimation in March, the administration as usual failed in setting up a proper system, to ensure that uniforms and other material are delivered on time,” alleged Shiv Sena corporator Prashant Dalvi. All these students are most likely to go to schools without uniform for the entire month of July since the process of awarding work orders to con-

tractors is still to get an official nod from the standing committee, despite the fact that a budgetary allocation of Rs.2 crore has already been made for the purpose in the current fiscal. However, when contacted, Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said, “It is true that there has been an unprecedented delay, however we were helpless as only one company took part in the bid process prompting us to recall the tenders which will soon be tabled before the standing committee and we will ensure that the students are provided with uniforms and education material by next week.”

A student who did not wished to be named says, “Even after paying fees for the gymnasium and playground, we don't have a place in college to practice our sports. The playground is under construction leaving us with no option but to play on the streets.” According to the Maharashtra Universities Act 1994, a college affiliated to a varsity should compulsorily have a playground and a gymnasium. As per the rules of the Local Investigation Committee, a college should have a specific area for the playground. If not, then the college fails to abide by the rules and regulations of the

college infrastructure guidelines of the varsity. When the ADC, spoke to Pradeep Sawant, Member of the Students Grievance Committee and Senate Member, MU, he said “City colleges have been engaged in building new structures on playgrounds rather than encouraging and supporting students to practice sports and utilize the ground. Who is to be blamed for this? This is not the first time a tragedy occurred after kids ate poisoned food. Across the country, there have been several instances of kids falling ill after eating the mid-day meal. Parents have come to regard the meal as unsafe. They feel it is better their kids become drop-outs than die. It is pathetic that the mid-day meal scheme has become a failure. It has also become dangerous. Hypocritical politicians The Supreme Court has reversed a serious injustice in its recent judgement and we can only hope that Maharashtra’s narrow-minded and hypocritical politicians do not find some other way of preventing the dance bars from opening again. If they are genuinely interested in ending the horror of child prostitution they need to work harder to ensure that the brothels of Mumbai stop forcing children to become sex slaves. This can easily be done because the police know exactly which brothels have children in them and which ones do not. If they do not stop child prostitution it is because the brothel owners make enough money to keep the police happy. ing form of child abuse. Around the time that Patil closed the dance bars in 2005, I was doing a programme for NDTV’s Hindi channel called ‘Indianama’. One of the first episodes I did was about child prostitution in Mumbai and I was able to do it only because the police chief at the time, Anami Roy, was eager to publicize the raids that he was conducting on brothels. The story that unfolded for me that day was so horrible that by the time we finished visiting brothels late that evening I had a high fever and was sickened to my soul. I met young girls, some no more than fourteen years old, who had been kidnapped and forced into prostitution before they reached puberty. I remember in particular the story of a girl whose name I think was Rubina, who was kidnapped while playing outside her parents’ pavement home in Delhi. She was sold to a brothel under the Kennedy Bridge and forced to have sex with

She came back with us the day we went on the raid to search for a scrap of paper on which she thought was written her parents address. When we got to the brothel she searched desperately in a blue plastic vanity case filled with cheap cosmetics and she searched under the narrow wooden plank that had been her bed. She did not find it and it clearly broke her heart. As we were leaving Ian Dowling, the man who ran the rescue centre where she had been taken, told me that she was HIV positive. In Mumbai, there are hundreds of thousands of girls like her in the brothels. They should be easy to find but

for this to happen you need political leaders who are motivated by more than hypocrisy and tokenism.

Forced into prostitution

Because of their fraudulent motives, girls who made an honest living and good money out of dancing in bars were driven into the streets. Some were forced into prostitution, some were trafficked to countries in the Middle East and some found whatever work they could to feed their families. In the words of a bar dancer I interviewed for a column that appeared in April 2005, “Where we could make Rs.200 and Rs.300 a day we barely manage to make Rs.20 and sometimes it gets so bad the owner gives us a few rupees to go and eat a meal.” The girls I interviewed in the ‘dancers room’ of a bar just after the ban came into effect came from very poor families in Kolkata, Kanpur and Lucknow. They were mostly illiterate so their employment options were limited but the moralists who imposed the ban could not have cared less. They come from middle-class families who mostly believe that poor people are ‘bad’ at the best of times. Moralists are not easily defeated either. Like all puritans they believe righteousness is on their side. So if the Supreme Court does not keep a careful eye on what is going to happen now it is entirely possible that the same people will get back into action and find some other way to ensure that dance bars do not come back into business. It is the city that has to give licenses for a bar to open and the licenses may become impossible to get. If this happens it would be a tragedy for Mumbai because I remember the dance bar in which I went to do my interviews as a happy place filled with music, lights and gilded ceilings. The brothels of Mumbai, on the other hand, I remember as places that reek of evil, exploitation and disease. The rescued child prostitutes I talked to told stories of being beaten and starved if they refused to service customers. Even on days when they were sick they were forced to work and more often than not all they ‘earned’ were two meals a day and some clothes. If R.R. Patil is sincere in wanting to do something good for Mumbai it is the brothels he needs to attack. The question to ask is why he has not already done so.

TILL a couple of days ago, I was just a Nationalist (and a truly diehard one) but today my Nationalism is slightly ‘Modi-fied’ as now I am a Muslim Nationalist. The change is due to a “new” theory invented by Narendra Modi in an interview with Reuters. His theory: he is a born Hindu and a true Nationalist so he is a Hindu Nationalist, great. Everybody should be proud of the religion to which he/ she belongs and one should also be proud of his/ her patriotism. Nationalism has no religion so did we believe till recently, but then NaMo has new ideas of “development” and “progress” where even Nationalism has a religion. His analogue about the 2002 deaths with that of the death of a puppy under his car was truly in line with his inner feelings. Will he just explain two things—who was his reckless driver and what action did he take on him? And would he have just felt ‘dukh’ and sat casually on the backseat had it been an “insaan ka baccha” instead of “kutte ka”?

YEH KUCH BAATH HUI! The apex court has rightly ordered the State to focus on regulating dance bars with better protection to the women working in them. SUPREME COURT has undone an unfair ban on dance bars in Mumbai. In 2005 Maharashtra government led by Home Minister R.R. Patil felt dance bars were the breeding grounds for prostitution and crime, declaring that the state was preparing to forgo its excise revenue for the sake of greater virtue. The Bombay HC struck down the ban in 2006 and state appealed to Supreme Court and due to the court’s stay order,

hundreds of bars closed down forcing women working therein to go jobless and live in strained circumstances, while the elite version of the same pleasure carried on in posh hotels. The state had no solution to rehabilitate the women affected by the ban. The SC rightly ordered the state to concentrate on regulating these establishments. After all, if it is genuinely concerned about crime and prostitution, the state should

IT is reported that the SC has since lifted the ban on dance bars in Maharashtra, thus paving the way for reopening of the entire gamut of the same. It is not given to understand as to how the merits forcing the closure of the dance bars earlier, could not prevail over the demerits of reopening and running the dance bars as prior to August 15, 2005 for the appreciation of the SC. The State Govt., would now be hard-pressed to allow the reopening and required to carefully frame the guidelines to ensure orderly running of these bars with stringent norms specifying age limit, et al so that the youth including students are not permitted into such bars. — T.M. If you’re stuck in traffic on your way home from work every evening, you’ve probably tuned into Erica D’Souza on Mumbai’s muchneeded international music channel, Radio One. Rhea Dhanbhoora talks to her about music, potholes and being a full-time mum

Erica has been with the industry since FM Radio went commercial in the ’90s. Coming out of a sabbatical post baby, a music-radio centric consultancy partnered with a long-time colleague allowed her to dabble in projects such as Mumbai’s first citizen run community radio station and soundscaping commercial enterprises. Here Erica tells us more about her love for radio and just how she manages it all.

Who came up with Drive Mumbai? Oh yes, mothers often go overboard with their online affection on Facebook. But, if you’re a mom, don’t blame yourself. We know you don’t do it on purpose; it so happens that you just don’t know that your children take their online image very seriously. So, here is a guide on Facebook etiquette for you.

Don’ts Friend request: Do not and we will repeat this to reiterate our point, do not send friend requests to your children’s friends. It is going to be very weird, not just to his or her friends, but for them as well. You are on Facebook to mingle with your friends and people your age. Don’t use it to get into your children’s friends’ friend list. Limit liking: At least pretend that you are not stalking your kids! Don’t go on liking every picture or post they put up. Same goes for commenting. Giving your opinion on everything they do on their wall is not something that they will appreciate. Also, try to limit your likes. Discuss offline: If you find something objectionable on your son or daughter’s Facebook wall, don’t show your displeasure by commenting on that post. Don’t publically reprimand them online. Instead, try to discuss the topic in person or drop in a private Facebook message in their inbox.

Also, you’ll have the added benefit of having a more realistic view about relationships and will have given yourself time to figure out what you really need from a partner.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: The Nifty rose marginally on Wednesday (July 17, 2013) a net 18.05 points (0.30%) and closed at the 5973 point level. The market opened up with a gap at the 5972 points level. It then rose further and registered the day’s high at the 5989 points level at 11.00 a.m. The index then turned into a range bound movement until 1.42 p.m. It then declined sharply into the red and registered the day’s low at the 5926 points level at 2.12 p.m. The market then bounced back into the green and turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty moved in a range of 63 points. Sentiment was mixed as amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 30 were losers, while 20 stocks closed in the green. Buying was seen in consumer durables, IT, oil & gas, power and technology stocks, while substantial selling was witnessed in banking and metal stocks.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) increased 19.53%. This change is substantial and indicates a wide participation by investors.

Market Breadth: Overall Market Breadth on the NSE was negative. Amongst all the traded stocks, 521 were gainers, 822 were losers and 65 remained unchanged.

Slow Stochastic Indicator: The Slow Stochastic Oscillator has declined in the over-bought zone. The Slow K line in the Stochastic Oscillator is below the slow D line (negative if it continues). RSI Indicator: The RSI is above the 40 level and is now rising (positive if it continues).

MACD Indicator: The MACD is above zero and is rising (positive if it continues). It is above its 9-day Average (positive).

On Japanese candlestick patterns the index has formed a doji pattern. This indicates indec isiveness amongst investors. The next candle formation will confirm whether the bias is towards the buy or sell side of the market. H owever, the index has crossed below the 5 day’s moving average as the 5 day’s moving average has risen faster than the index. But, the index is still above the 15, 25 and 200 day’s moving averages and all the averages are rising. Further, the velocity parameters continue to remain positively trended. All these indicate a positive bias and the possibility of a fur ther upmove unfolding. Investors are advised to hold long positions but with a strict stop loss at the 15-day average at the 5876 point’s level.

The predictable nature of Bharti Infratel’s (BIL) cash flow is a key feature of its business, characterised by long-term contracts, 2.5% annual escalation clauses and heavy exit penalties. A blue-chip client base Bharti Airtel (BAL), Vodafone India and Idea Cellular (Idea) - is another factor driving confidence in cash flow predictability. This, plus focus on data/3G services by operators should boost revenue/site. Outlook and valuation: Our DCF assumptions include 13.9% WACC, with post-tax cost of debt at 7.9%. We assume 0.8x beta, 8% risk-free rate and 8% equity risk premium. Cost of equity (CoE) works out to 14.4%. We have assumed 3% terminal growth. Thus, total EV works out to Rs162.6bn, to which we add BIL’s 42% stake in Indus’ EV at a 25% holding company discount, taking total EV to Rs315bn. Adjusted for net debt, total equity value is Rs363bn, implying a per share value of Rs192, up 25% from the current market price. Hence, we assign a Buy rating to BIL.

Improved traction in consumer business driven by new launches: During FY13, consumer business revenue was up 22% YoY, led by above industry growth rates in most segments: Fans (22% v/s industry growth of 15%), pumps (17% v/s 6%) etc. This was largely driven by new launches like premium range of ceiling fans introduced in FY13, which accounted for ~5% of sales etc. Standalone cash flow from operations at near all-time high; improvement in NWC: Reported cash flows from operations in standalone business have improved to INR6.1b in FY13 (v/s INR3.9b in FY12). Valuation and view: CRG’s journey to emerge as a ‘global corporation’ from India continues to face multiple ‘growth pangs’. Phase 1 of the restructuring program has been largely completed, with Hungary reporting positive EBIT margins in 4QFY13 and Belgium back in profitability in April 2013. HAPRA/MADHUBANI: The midday meal death toll in Bihar’s Saran district rose to 23 with two more children falling victims on Wednesday after consumption of free food sparking violent protests amid suspicions by the state government it was poisoned. In a related incident, about 50 students of a government middle school in Madhubani district fell ill after eating food under the midday meal scheme. The food was served to children of Navtolia Middle School, Bisfi, near Madhubani, amid allegations by the students that a dead lizard was found in the meal. “The oil used to cook the vegetables was foul-smelling. Doctors found the presence of organic phosphorus in the food and vomit. It means the children were poisoned,” Bihar education minister P.K.

Shahi told PTI in Patna. Shahi did not rule out foul play and said investigations will determine whether the poisoning was accidental or deliberate. As the tragedy sparked a political blame game, Shahi also alleged a political conspiracy against the state government. “Principal Meena Kumari’s husband is close to a political leader,” he said. Shahi suspected the poisoning to be caused by insecticides in vegetable or rice. Union HRD Minister Pallam Raju said an FIR has already been lodged against the school principal. The “food has turned killer”, screamed a woman whose two sons were among the victims, as a pall of gloom hung over Dandaman village. While 16 children, aged below 10 years and studying in Class I to V, had died in Chhapra itself, four others were declared

dead on arrival at Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) late last night. Two died at the hospital yesterday morning, official and PMCH sources said. Twenty five others are under medical supervision in PMCH, Superintendent of PMCH Amarkant Jha Azad said. There were emotional scenes as children, their limbs dangling and heads drooping to one side, were brought to a hospital. The tragedy took place at the government primary school in Dahrmasati Gandawan village at Mashrakh block, near Chhapra, 60 km from Patna, on Tuesday. Police said that during the violent protests three police vehicles were damaged by agitators during a bandh call in Saran district over the deaths. Three police vehicles and one belonging to the circle officer were damaged in

Mashrakh block, where the school is located, Saran Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar said. In the district headquarters at Chapra, the protesters targeted a police bus used for carrying prisoners and broke its glasses. They also damaged one police checkpost, official sources said. Doctors said the ailing children were admitted to ICU of the paediatric department and senior doctors were attending to them round-theclock. EW DELHI: The government is all set to introduce a buyer-friendly real estate legislation which aims to protect consumers and bring transparency in the sector in the Monsoon Session of Parliament. “We will will be introducing the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill, 2013, which is very relevant to real sector in the Monsoon Session,” said Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Girija Vyas here on Wednesday. She said the Bill has been approved by the Cabinet and is proposed to be introduced in Parliament. The Monsoon Session of

Parliament will begin on August 5 and the Bill, after its introduction, is likely to be referred to the Standing Committee of Parliament for examination. Describing the Bill as a pioneering legislation which will install standardisation and professionalism in the sector, Vyas said, “It will ensure consumer protection and promotion of the real estate sector through effective regulation and introduction of speedy mechanism for adjudication of disputes.” The real estate sector is one of the largest business and employment generators in the Indian economy. Despite

its mammoth size, the sector does not have a regulator who can balance the interests of the various stakeholders involved though there are a number of legislations at various levels that affect the sector directly or indirectly. Assuring the industry that all their concerns have been taken into account in the Bill, she said, “Any further suggestions, if any, can also be taken on board at the time of examination by the Standing Committee.” “The government is keen to bring reform to the areas which are crucial for the development of housing and real sector,” she said.

BERLIN: Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone was on Wednesday charged with bribery by German prosecutors. The 82-year-old motor racing magnate has been charged by state prosecutors in Munich in relation to a $44 million (33.6 million euro, £29 million) payment he made to German banker Gerhard Gribkowsky, which was linked to the sale of the Formula One rights in 2006. Last month, Gribkowsky was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail in Munich and Ecclestone has always denied bribing the German to avoid a British tax inquiry into the sale of Formula One, claiming he was blackmailed by Gribkowsky.

RANCHI: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's close friend and former Ranji teammate Santosh Lal, the inventor of famous helicopter shot, today passed away while undergoing treatment for pancreatitis at a hospital in Delhi. EW DELHI: Upset with All India Football Federation's tardiness in implementing an ambitious project authored by him, national team technical director Rob Baan is unlikely to seek extension of his two-year contract which ends in October. Baan, who has a wealth of experience as coach and technical director having worked in several countries in these capacities, was the brain behind the 'Lakshya 2022' which aims at India qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. But, with the masterplan he authored last August gathering dust, the 70-year-old Dutchman is understood to have indicated to the AIFF top brass that he would not be renewing his contract which

he signed in October 2011. "It is true Baan is not happy with the non-implementation of masterplan Lakshya 2022. So, he is unlikely to extend his contract," an AIFF official told PTI on condition of anonymity. "Though he has not spoken openly, we have heard through other people that he is not likely to extend his contract," he said. Baan could not be reached as his phone remained switched off. Baan has an annual package of Rs 2 crore and according to AIFF sources, he has in his contract the liberty of working only 15 days in a month and the AIFF will have to provide him four to five air tickets for travelling home in a year. Remembering the voice of Indian Cricket J

uly 18 marks the first death anniversary of Suresh Saraiya, the voice of Indian cricket who provided a distinct and different style to cricket commentary on radio. Sureshbhai, as he was affectionately called, was indeed the voice of cricket for many who followed his inimitable commentary on All India Radio (AIR) for well over four decades. He painted a vivid picture of India’s historic victories and losses in the minds of radio listeners; be it from Auckland, Trinidad, London, Durban or his very own beloved Mumbai where he learnt the nuances of the game. It was only befitting that this broadcasting legacy which began at the Brabourne Stadium in November 1969 when India took on the Bill Lawry led Australian team, ended with the India – West Indies Test at the Wankhede Stadium in November 2011; a match which ended in an exciting draw off the last ball. His crowning glory, undoubtedly, was when he completed a century of Tests on the microphone for AIR during the

India – New Zealand match at Nagpur (20th to 23rd Nov. 2010). Saraiya’s passion for cricket was second to none and no matter whichever part of the world he was doing commentary, he always ensured that he was fully prepared much before the first ball was bowled. One must remember that for most part of his broadcasting career, he didn’t have information at his fingertips like most of us have nowadays. Consequently, the big log book that he meticulously maintained and always carried to matches was his finest ally. Even though Saraiya did a few commentary assignments for television, he essentially remained a radio man till the very end.

He is a two-time NBA champion, an eight-time NBA All Star and an Olympics gold medalist, the 6 feet 11 inches CHRIS BOSH has seen it all. The Miami Heat hoopster who is in the city as part of the NBA program to develop the game in India, spoke exclusively to NEIL JOSHI about the future of game in the country, especially how to develop India’s roadmap to improve their rankings. He also dwelt on how it felt to be a part of the gold winning Olympic team in Beijing and on Miami’s Heat consecutive victories in the NBA Championship.

How do you propose that basketball should be developed in India as the game is still experiencing early days in the country? This is why we are here and why we want to interact with possible fans and show the people how easy it is to play. And that is the hard part, you need to show them how easy it is to pick up a ball and put a couple of baskets and play a couple of games. You will hopefully see more guys playing and once a love is developed for basketball then all things will fall in place.

What prompted you to take to the sport? My dad played recreational leagues, church leagues and so I was exposed to it at an early age and I played with my friends and it was just fun for me. In the process I just grew taller, which I didn’t think would happen but I did. I was able to develop in to something useful and I was playing in the NBA of which I am very proud.

What is the aim of your visit and what do you want to achieve with this? My sole purpose is to have a good time. If you are having fun, all things fall in place. I just want to enjoy the culture and interact with my fans and ask the fans to watch the Heat more.

There have been a number of NBA players who have come to India to promote the game. With a limited fan base and limited know-how of the players, do you think that the player of your calibre can make a difference? I know they show the games out here and some of the people are familiar with the

What football, baseball and basketball is to Americans, cricket is to India. How difficult is to make inroads in the country and make them switch away from cricket? I don’t think it would be a big challenge. Some kids can be serious about the sport. As long as kids have fun you can do both. If you like cricket, play cricket and if you like basketball play that or you just do both. As long as you are playing with your friends and being active and as long as you are having a good time, it is good. India is 56th in in the FIBA ranking, with the USA topping the charts. What approach would you take to drastically improve the rankings? We have to start somewhere. First you need to have a team and then develop it. On the international perspective, it is important to have players and keep them together for a certain period. Since, India has a national team, we can now focus on getting better and continue to compete against each other and other countries. As times goes on and if you feel you are getting better and if you do that, the sky is the limit.

How big was the Beijing gold at the Olympics? Big… big. We were expected to win. If we didn’t win it would have been a disappointment. I was fortunate to be on a team to bring back that passion for international basketball for the United States. For a while we were taking it for granted and thought that we could just show up and win but the rest of the world was catching up and everybody is getting better. That is what competition is all about. Once guys started seeing more and more of basketball, guys started getting better. We had to deal with that competition and it was good for the whole world to compete each other.

Spain plays a different style as compared to the USA, how different is their approach to the game? Those guys have been playing with each other since they were teenagers. Not only are they a good team, they have got great individual talent. They have a lot of guys who have played in the NBA and are playing in the

NBA and have got on the radar a lot. The fact they have the confidence, they can compete every year and we always have to beat them to accomplish our goals. We enjoy the competition with them and I know they love it too.

Indians lack in the physical aspect of the game. How do you feel India should overcome this? I have seen a few six footers. It is a country of a billion people. As far as athleticism is concerned, you have to develop that too. Once, kids see and know that they can do something, they will do it. It is like the brain, once it knows

INTERVIEW you can do something, there is no stopping you. There are lot of drills and if you work hard you can become much better and anybody can do it. Out of a billion people, you can definitely find six and seven footers.

How difficult was it to defend the title rather than winning it in the previous year? It was very difficult to defend the title. We got every team’s big shot everyday. It is difficult to play when people want what you have. When you are on the top of the hill, everyone is tagging you and trying to get there. And you just have to deal with your own mindset and doing the process all over again is difficult. I am proud of our guys for answering the challenge and we were doing the best job possible and I am happy to win it.

Most would consider the Heat’s game against the Spurs was the closest. How mentally draining was the win? It was very mentally draining. It was the most as the sport has ever been to me and the reward was great. I was extremely proud to get out alive. It was a great feeling. If you want to win, you need to go through things like that. It was difficult but it was worth it. Do you fee basketball as a way of life for you? It is a way of life for me. Most of the things that I have done has been rotated around basketball. I have been playing for a long time now and I am proud of what I have done and what the sport has given me.

NBA is promoting basketball in a big way in India with a number of players from top teams making their presence felt. With the game at a nascent stage in the country, add to it the fact that there are a few followers and fans of the game, how much impact you believe such a visit as yours would have an impact on India? The game of basketball is growing and the people love it. To me, it is the greatest sport in the world. People have no choice but to love it. The NBA is here trying to grow the game and to show the people how great it is. I feel the people in India will be attracted to it and once they get a hang of it, people won’t give it up.
