he Election Commission has released the list of election duties for teachers, triggering a chaotic situation for schools, colleges and the university. As more than 90 per cent of the teachers will be busy with election duties, the final examinations of these educational institutes will see a shortage of teachers and supervisors. Having no option left, the Mumbai University (MU) has postponed its exams, and colleges and schools will also reschedule theirs. As per a Government Resolution (GR), teachers have to be engaged in election and census duties of the government, which are compulsory and will be considered as paid leave along with remuneration for

the election duties. As the academic year is nearing its end, schools colleges and university have scheduled their final exams, keeping in mind the elections. But the education department has now forwarded the election duty list asking them to assign various duties to the teachers. As nearly all the teachers have been assigned poll duties, there is no option for the educational institutions but to reschedule the exams. Uday Nare, senior teacher, Hansraj Morarji Public School, Andheri, told the ADC, “According to the GR, teachers will have to go on a five-day election training program due to which we will be unable to conduct the exams. The election duty has actually landed the teachers and exam schedules in a mess!” As per the procedure, teachers will have to go on a five-day election duty camp during where they will be briefed about their duties. The MU has postponed 126 papers at 476 centres on March 28 and April 1, 2014 for which 88,000 students would be appearing. Just a week ago, the varsity had postponed its exams which were to be conducted on April 16, 17, 23 and 24. Dr, Naresh Chandra, Pro Vice Chancellor, MU, said: “Many principals have informed that their staff members have been given election duties. On March 28 and April 1, training will be given to many employees which may disturb smooth conduct of examinations and hence it has been decided to postpone the exams. The inconvenience caused to students is regretted. The rescheduled dates of the exams will be declared as soon as possible.”

Banks and IT offices to remain open on March 29, 30 and 31 In order to facilitate payment of taxes before the close of the Financial Year 2013-14, the RBI has decided, on request of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), that all agency banks shall keep open the counters of their designated branches conducting Government Business on Saturday, March 29. The said counters shall remain open for extended hours till 8 pm. Further, on Sunday, March 30, agency banks will keep select branches open at key locations as a regular working day for transacting Government Business.At locations where March 31 has not been declared as a public holiday, the said counters shall remain open for extended hours till 8 pm. Similarly, on March 31, at places where a public holiday has been declared, the same select branches shall remain open as a regular working day for transacting Government Business. he Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at BMC run KEM hospital is all set to get an upgradation with regards to infrastructure, both civil and mechanical, as well as latest equipments and machines. This is an initiative of the the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) cell of the BMC. Along with CSR partner Mazgaon Docks Ltd., the BMC is undertaking the upgradation of the NICU at KEM which will cost around Rs.3.7 crore and will be done over a period of two years. Speaking about this upgradation, Dr. Shubhangi Parker, Acting Dean, KEM hospital said, “This is a step to give the neo-nates better care and medical assistance. This upgradation will see better machines and a

re-organised NICU at KEM. It will done in phases.” Currently, the capacity of the NICU at KEM is 37 but more often than not it has more children admitted than its capacity. “Our NICU capacity is generally stretched up to 120 per cent to 150 per cent but still we try and help every child in need as much as we can. This upgradation might not see much of an increase in capacity but quality assurance would be higher,” said Parker. The upgradation will not hamper the current services. The children will be shifted elsewhere while the work is on, informed Parker. “The work will be undertaken in phases so that services are not interrupted. The work should probably begin within a month or so,” said Parker.

Activist Hemant Patil, the complainant, has demanded registration of a police case against them under Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013. Bachchan had played a ghost in the Bollywood movie 'Bhoothnath', and its sequel, 'Bhoothnath Returns' is the pipeline.

Patil's complaint is about a TV commercial for health drink brand 'Complan' where Bachchan reprises his ghost character from the film. He says that the advertisement promotes belief in the existence of ghosts and spirits and consequently the need for the magic to ward them off. “The food-product company has come out with a 45-second advertisement on the issue without publishing any disclaimer before or after the broadcast,” said Patil's lawyer, advocate Wajid Pathan. "The state utility is all set to supply power at the cost of Rs 3.25 per unit for the period of April 2014 to March 2015," a Mahavitran release said yesterday.

xperts from the Ministry of Civil Aviation from Delhi will today land in the city to monitor the height cap limit given by the ministry to the decade-old Dharavi Redevelopment Project, which had recently slowed down due to various hurdles related to clearances and encroachments in the area. This comes after the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has written a letter to the Chairman of the Ministry of Civil Aviation highlighting the issue that it is unable to complete the first building on which it had started work in the year 2012, due to a height cap by the ministry. The Dharavi slum is spread over 240 hectares in Central Mumbai and is one of Asia’s largest slums and it neighbouring localities include Bandra, the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Sion and Mahim, which are prime real estate locations. MHADA is the special planning authority dedicated for sector 5 of Dharavi which stretches over 65 hectares, out of which 24 hectares (2,40,000 sq.mt.) is developable. The date of completion of this building is however contingent to the housing body receiving height clearance from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The housing board had started the construction of this building while the development plan was yet to be finalized.

"Recently, BEST had called for a tender for procurement of power which was won by Mahavitaran. The utility has received the contract of selling 100 MW power to BEST. Besides, some other states have also shown interest in buying power from Mahavitaran. It has already planned for the required power till 2019- 2020," the release said. According to Mahavitran, the utility has taken power from every possible source to bridge the demand-supply gap. "...However, since June 2013, Mahavitaran has not done any short-term

power purchase. On the contrary, Mahavitaran regularly sells 200-500 MW power to others during night hours," it said. Mahavitran claimed that nearly 85 per cent of the state is free from loadshedding. "In the wake of encouraging honest consumers, Mahavitaran has purposely implemented load shedding in urban areas having more than 42 per cent Distribution and Commercial Losses (DCL) and in rural areas having more than 45 per cent DCL," the statement added.

eripheral Railway hospitals in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are facing a shortage of medicines, according to railway employees who are regular visitors at local railway hospitals. The employees alleged that shortage of these medicines has put their lives in danger. At the moment, the medicines for blood pressure and diabetes are falling short. These two are very common diseases among the railway employees due to their lifestyle and 24x7 work shifts. After complaints from employees, the office of the General Manager interevened in the matter and notified that an employee can directly come to the Byculla railway hospital, even without reference from local hospital and get the required medicines. Railway officials can get their two-month stock of medicines at a time. Railway employees, retired railway employees and their family members can avail this facility.

dren remained silent due to fear. But when the siblings could not take it any more, they mustered courage and narrated the horrific tale to their mother. The mother lodged a complaint against her husband at the Nalasopara police station. While the girl studied in standard VI, her elder brother is a standard VII student of a private school, police said. A last-ditch plan to attract credibility T

HE Congress party appears to have at last realised that it has to make some desperate, urgent effort to remove the corruption taint which has been sticking to it for the last ten years. A last minute effort is not likely to help much, but the Congress leaders appear to have decided to tackle the subject. In their election manifesto which they released two days ago, they said some of the anti-corruption bills will be enacted as soon as they come to power. This is one of the most unconvincing promises contained in the manifesto. The Congress claims that the manifesto has the voice of the people: What it says is whatever the people wanted has been included in the manifesto. The party is also making promises which it cannot keep: For instance, it is claiming it is providing financial assistance to all. Are they proposing to give doles? And the prime minister, speaking on the budget, said that corruption cannot be wished away, but they will undertake suitable measures to eradicate it. In short, in the manifesto, the Congress has promised the world to all classes of people. It has attempted to build before the people a rosy image of things to come. And it has declared if Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister of India, it will be disaster for the country. And perhaps the Congress thinks that the most important message it has put in the manifesto is with regard to secularism. Every leader speaking on the manifesto spoke about the need for India to remain a secular state. Actually, in this attempt to focus attention on secularism, the Congress has subtly attempted to polarise society in the country. It is cleverly bringing in polarisation – to create a divide between various communities. This has been the plan of the SP in Uttar Pradesh. Various communities are told – not directly – about the existence of danger in a society where people follows different faiths. The manifesto of the Congress has included a hidden agenda to bring about polarisation and build its vote bank.

Serenity Beach Pondicherry

Anyone who visits Pondicherry (or Puducherry as it's called) doesn't leave without visiting its spectacularly unspoiled beaches. With bluer than blue waters, soft white sands and palm trees that look like they've been plucked out of a film, this is a great beach destination. While Serenity Beach isn't as popular as the other beaches in and around the place, it's extremely peaceful and the perfect place to soak up a little of the culture because of the fishing village that surrounds it. It's also a popular surfing spot, but make sure you take a guide/ surfing instructor with you since the sea can get quite choppy. It's a short stretch and not very touristy, but it's a great place to visit when you're in the area. Getting there: There is no direct air connection to Pondicherry from Mumbai, though there is a train that you can board from Dadar. However, it will take you around 34-35 hours. If you don't want to spend so many hours travelling, you can catch a flight to Chennai (which is the closest airport) and then take a bus or book a taxi.

Gokarna, Karnataka Gokarna is a very popular pilgrimage spot, but it's not only the devout who will find peace here. There are several secluded beaches that make for scenic destinations, perfect for summer travel, that won't burn a hole in your wallet to get to. Located around 8km from the main town, it's absolutely breathtaking. The sand stretches for miles and there are several water sport activities, including surfing, water-skiing and parasailing that you can partake of when you're there. Getting there: Trains and buses are the most direct way to reach Gokarna. But, if you'd like to go there by air, you'll have to take a flight to Dabolim in Goa, which is 140km from Gokarna. You can then take a taxi to reach Gokarna. The adventurous can also make a road-trip of the 735km by taking the Mumbai-Kochi highway.

Goa is connected very well to Mumbai. Once in Goa, you can take a taxi to reach Palolem, or you can board a bus going towards Canacona Bus Stand and get off there. From there, you can catch an auto-rickshaw to the beach.

hen was the last time you walked into an art show and came out a completely different person? Maybe its time to do so this week, by visiting Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery to see Rachna Toshniwal's first solo show, Entering The Now. In an attempt to involve and intertwine the art of other artists along with hers, Rachna will work with veteran artist, Surendra Rao and a visiting Belgian artist, Kris Vandenberghe at the gallery, to make art by exchanging techniques and giving each other the joy of sharing creative spaces. As Toshniwal expresses herself through the process of painting, she also explores the complications of

emotional threads that connect the self within as well as that of others. She rightfully explains, “Rarely do emotional threads run parallel in my life, they tend to intersect, overlap, entangle, loop and jump — entwining my being. Now, the tug of merging, separating and connecting pull strongly at my entangled existence — vying for attention, breathing room, space; wanting to be seen!” Through this collection Rachna has found a different language that is helping her take a radical step towards change. nch by Inch is situated in a quiet lane off Yari Road. Walk into it's gates, festooned with banners and you find yourself at their openair café. Walk past it into the foyer to be greeted by their spa section. While the rest of the facility is bustling with activity, make your way through the heavy glass door that cordons off the spa and you can’t help but feel an instant sense of calm. The small sitting area is dotted with colourful cushions and wooden trinkets. As you browse through the menu, you notice Thai Privilege Spa emblazoned on the wall. They have a tie-up with the Thailand based spa chain and are the first to bring the range of therapies and techniques to India. The therapies range from the aromatherapy massage (`3,000), to a stress-releasing head massage (`1,500). They also have a jet-lag massage, sports healing massage and one for children (`2,000). The actual facility is a maze of sorts, but one you'd actually like to

After a welcome drink made with tamarind, jaggery and lemon, I was ushered in for my foot reflexology treatment (`750) for 30 minutes. It started with a tamarind foot scrub followed by an intensive foot massage and reflexology session. The masseuse hit all the pressure points correctly and was extremely receptive to how my body was responding. The good thing about the spa is that they have several treatments in sessions ranging from 30-90 minutes and packages that last up to five and a half hours. So, you can pick something that

maaash built its reputation as a sports lover's destination, but it's about much more than that. With the launch of their dinning restaurant-bar (Bazinga; review on next page) and the Hoopla Zoo, they are aiming to become a family destination. The zoo brings us the technology of animatronics — something we previously saw only on the big screen. Standing outside the cute entrance to the zoo (a stone bridge over a tiny water body), I was slightly sceptical. I thought of the next few minutes as a literal walk in the park, with animated animals and birds at random junctures. However, the first step is enough to dispel the notion. You're greeted by a large, growling bear, moving his head in a menacing (or so I thought!) manner. To be honest, my heart was in my mouth for a second... or two! Before you get your bearings back to try and

answer the question, ‘where am I?!’, you will come across a cleverly hidden snake. By now, I was having serious doubts about my initial impression of Hoopla Zoo being nothing more than a themed play-area. This wasn't helped by my encounter with a rhinoceros, who, with its constant nodding, made me hesitant to pass by him. It was probably because of this hesitance that I was informed that all the animals are made using kid-friendly materials and when you touch the figures, you'll find that they're as soft as foam. During my continued exploration of Hoopla Zoo, I also came across a crocodile, a camel, a great bald eagle, a parrot and two really cute penguins. However, the best attraction was undoubtedly the dinosaur. Located right at the end of the zoo, it is quite scary and constantly sprays out cold water, which when combined

Dev Goswami visits Smaaash’s new restaurant-bar Bazinga and tells you whether it is worth a visit

maaash is known as a place where you can go to enjoy a range of attractions and games (they have some really, really great ones — the F1 car simulator being a favourite), while you sip on pints of beer. This was the impression even though they have a well-stocked bar. It’s that impression they're aiming to change and is the reason they've introduced Bazinga — a restaurant-bar that is slightly secluded from the usually boisterous atmosphere of Smaaash. The first thing that strikes you is that the thick glass walls drown out almost all the sounds coming from the gaming arena but just lets the music in, so that your meal isn't spent in deafening silence. The restaurant has been done up neatly with bright lights, yet has a sports charm to it with large screens to showcase matches and posters of famous sports-persons who’d visited Smaaash.

EuropEan-isEd indian Located in an area otherwise devoid of fine-dining restaurants, n Bar & Grill in Chembur already has the upper hand. Rhea Dhanbhoora visits to see how they match up to restaurants around the city

eading to Chembur seems like a dire prospect after a long day and there's usually no light at the end of the tunnel, especially because there isn't much to head to Chembur for. So, when we traipsed there to check out n Bar & Grill, we weren't really expecting a spectacular meal. The décor is nice, but a little over-the-top in certain aspects. The faux-leather sofas and candle-lit tables in an already well-lit restaurant are not necessary. While the round, booth style tables and overhead lights are a welcome change from straight-backed chairs (they give you the much needed elbow room that most restaurants lack), the brown and gold opulence gets a little heavy on the eyes after a while. The USP of n Bar & Grill, although they may not advertise it, is that they serve Indian food, plated European style. This is done to help people eat their favourite foods without having to share and also to increase its aesthetic appeal, which I could vouch for by browsing through the tablet menu alone. They start with an Indian-ised amuse-bouche, a bite-sized hors d’œuvre, served complimentary after you've placed your order. The spiced chass and phyllo pastry filled with channa was tasty, but I’ve had similar at other fine-dine Indian restaurants, so it didn't blow me away. They recommend trying the Salt & Vinegar wafers with your drinks and although some people may find them a little too salty, I couldn't get enough of the thin, crispy wafers. The Galouti Kebab (`475) is melt-in-the-mouth and an added bonus are the soft naan triangles that they were served on. Don't attempt to use cutlery, the bite-sized treats crumble to bits if you touch them with a fork. The Sauth aur Imli ka Jhinga (`795) was just alright and the Akhroth Murgh Seekh Kebab (`355) was a little too dry for my taste. The Dahi Kebab (`295) upped the ante again — soft, with just the right

hint of garlic. The Kache Gosht Ka Biryani (`495) was flavourful, but run-off-the-mill, so I focused on polishing off the Aloo Lollipops (`295), which are a must-try. Although their menu consists of several interesting looking continental dishes and French cheeses, all their recommended dishes are Indian, which makes me wonder whether it's because they make these better, or because they don't have faith in Indian customers being able to appreciate varied cuisine — both of which I hope aren't the case. The one dish that stole the spotlight though was the unassuming Dal Makhani (`355). While we didn't give it a second glance when it was first brought to the table, the dal, cooked for 12 hours, is utterly, butterly delicious. Have it with the flaky kulchas. Drink wise, there are several options. The tequila based Red Pigeon (`495) was delicious — a large drink filled with pomegranate bits and flavoured with cherry and guava. The Samurai (`495) was good as well, with tart raspberries and a salt rim. They also make melon and cherry liqueur in-house. The Gulab Jamun took me back to my childhood with its spin on the Parsi doodh-puff with its foamy milk froth topping. The Caramelised Parle-G ice cream(`175), made in-house, is delicious if you love your glucose biscuits very, very cold! Although the Decadent Callebaut Chocolate Mousse (`255) was made with good chocolate (you can taste the difference), I wouldn't order it again. At the end of your meal, you're going to be surprised by an Indian version of cake pops. Confused? So were we! Think of sweet paan, cake crumbs and delicious dark chocolate. It sounds strange, but was quite yummy. I’d visit again, but only if I were in the area. However, for an otherwise extremely barren Chembur, n Bar & Grill is a much-needed fine-dining restaurant.

Both drinks were delicious — but we prefered the Long Beach Iced Tea, with its tangy hint of cranberry. We also tried the Whisky Sour, Singapore Sling and Margarita (`450 each), of which the stiff Whisky Sour was the best. We started with Manchow Soup (`150), which, though nothing exceptional, is perfect when you're ravenous. The Smaaash Nachos (`375) are flavourful, but would have tasted better with more of the creamy cheese sauce. We then tried the Chicken Sausage Oriental Style (`350) — sausage pieces cooked in onion gravy, with spices. The dish had a strong hit of pepper which took the flavour away from the sausages. The Spicy Chicken Tikka Pizza was made quite well but the flavours didn't justify a price tag of `425. Our last dish of the night was the Mexican Chicken Burger (`300), which could have been much better if they had they added a bit more of what was already there — sauces. The lack of adequate sauces made the burger a bit dry and chewy, but that being said, it tasted quite good. Bazinga does not stand out on its own. It is an experience that has to be combined with Smaaash for you to really have a good time. That doesn't mean that they can't be better — most of the issues that I had with their food was just a lack or an excess of something. Their drinks however are pretty amazing and should not be missed out on. You should certainly pop into Bazinga if you're at Smaaash, but the restaurant doesn't justify going to Smaaash just to try it... yet.

While picking up souvenirs for family and friends, don't forget to buy boxes of dates, date chocolates or date sweets. Camel shaped magnets and show pieces dominate most gift shops. You can even buy bakery products from the famous Muscat bakery shops, which offer

some melt-in-the-mouth cakes, biscuits, Omani halwa, bread and confectionery. Mutrah Souk is a great place to shop for clothes, spices, ittar (perfume), silver jewellery, show pieces and handicrafts. The main shopping area is situated in Al Qurum’s commercial area, however, shopping malls are spread out through the city, housing world class brands.

hen some trips come to an end, you're left with such great memories that it tears you up to have to leave a place that is so rich in natural beauty, culture and welcoming hospitality. Muscat, the capital of Oman, is one such place. The beautiful port city, dominated by trade, is as cosmopolitan as it can be; inhabited by people from across the world — primarily Indians, Persians, Baloochs, Philipinos, East Africans, Zanzibars and a few Europeans. While visiting Muscat, remember that they use two kinds of currency in the city — the Omani Rial and Baiza. The first sight of Muscat is in the form of the warm waters of the Arabian Sea and the surrounding peaks of the AlHajar mountains. As we drove down from the airport, the city welcomed us with its clean roads, green parks, flower gardens and several low-lying houses, with an old-world charm that was enhanced by their white and pastel hues. We soon realised that Muscat has practically no skyscrapers. The city is dotted with mosques, the most popular being the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which is an architectural jewel. Other popular mosques here include the Ruwi mosque and Zawawi mosque. Sultan Qaboos, the autocratic ruler here, has made way for development where trade is concerned. Ancient forts, protected by canons, are still operated by the military and the palace is the seat of Oman's government. The Indian population in Muscat owns many of the popular shops and we also came across two Hindu temples — a Shiva and Krishna temple, frequented by with a host of Hindu devotees. Muscat is home to some stunning museums as well. Oman’s National museum is a jewel in its crown, where you can soak in its well-preserved, rich, cultural heritage. The popular Qurum Beach is strikingly peaceful and you can even fish there. And, if you want to try activities such as, swimming, snorkeling, water sports, have a barbecue or just laze around, visit Qantab Beach. Dolphin fans should head to Marina Bandar, where you can watch spinner dolphins playing

in the water. You can also hop onto one of the speedboats, which take eight to ten people to the middle of the sea to feed them. You’ll find plenty of foreigners, expats and locals trying their hand at scuba diving and with a host of experienced divers around, it is highly unlikely that you will go home without learning the basics. A drive around the Mutrah Corniche and Harbour was a must-do on our list as it holds vital port trading routes. Thankfully, the old city hasn't been replaced by fancy buildings or newer constructions. Standing guard over Muscat’s harbour are the massive Mirani and Jalali forts (overlooking the Royal Palace), built when Oman was a major military base in the 16th century. Ruwi is a commercial hub that includes a massive marketplace, with several jewellery shops, cloth merchants, craft shops, grocery stores, export goods and local designer malls. The Ruwi market almost seemed like a miniature India in the Gulf! The Muscat Clock Tower is the oldest monument in modern Oman and it showcases the Sultanate’s commitment to modernisation. The headquarters of Omantel — Oman's Public Telecommunication wing, can be seen from this landmark. Al Khuwair marks the entrance to the Ministries Street, which houses all the important ministries of Oman. If you are the adventurous sort, try dune bashing in the desert (Wahiba sands) — about two hours away from the city by road. You can also check out the Turtle Resort which is a hit with most kids. It’s a turtle nesting ground where you can watch turtles hatch or lay eggs. People here love traditions, which is why the Muscat Festival is held here for four weeks every year, showcasing the country’s heritage, culture and arts at several outdoor venues around the city. The festival is a mix of poetry recitals, folk music, dance and acrobatic acts along with fireworks displays. Football is a favorite here too. Young boys are often seen playing around their houses and cheer for the national team at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex during the games. The people of Oman love their food and you’ll find several restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world. Coffee is also popular, so the city hosts plenty of coffee shops for coffee addicts. Typical Omani food is heavily flavoured with herbs, spices, garlic and lime and has Arabic, Indian and African influences. Also popular is the Omani halwa (made with dates and sprinkled with dry fruits). With beautiful landscapes and lovely people, the only drawback is that there is no rail/ metro so you have to travel by road or by air. However, this is hardly a reason for you to shy away from exploring this exciting destination!

Youngistan on CID where story revolves around two chawls of Worli. A young educated man- Abhimanyu (Jackky Bhagnaani’s character’s name in the film Youngistaan) who is working with his friends and running a community program for the Chawl residents notices this sudden exodus that are experiencing some strange happenings. Abhimanyu’s project involves the said issues - the Chawl redevelopment and people selling their flats/rooms and going too far off places. During the disappearance of the Chawl residents , the CID team comes across a strange murder. An elderly lady is found murdered in a jungle and when cops try to find out who she is and from where so much money came, a worried Abhimanyu visits the CID team. REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: The Nifty rose moderately on Thursday (March 27, 2014) a net 40.35 points (0.61%) and closed at the 6641 point level. The market opened up with a gap at the 6613 points level. It then declined and registered the day’s low at the 6599 points level at 9.16 a.m. The index then rose sharply into the green and turned into a range bound movement until 2.35 p.m. It then rose further and registered the day’s high at the 6673 points level at 2.58 p.m. The index then declined and turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty moved in a range of 74 points and closed above the psychologically important 6600 points level for the second consecutive session. Sentiment was bullish and amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 35 were gainers, while 15 were losers. Substantial buying was seen in PSU, consumer durables, oil & gas and realty stocks, while some selling was witnessed in healthcare, IT and metal stocks. TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) increased 23.65%. This change is substantial and indicates a wide participation by investors. Market Breadth: Overall Market Breadth on the NSE was positive. Amongst all the traded stocks, 909 were gainers, 603 were losers and 61 remained unchanged. Slow Stochastic Indicator: The Slow Stochastic Oscillator is in the over-bought zone. The Slow K line in the Stochastic Oscillator has dropped below the slow D line (negative and a sell signal). However, such signals are considered invalid in the over-bought zone.

RSI Indicator: The RSI is above the 60 level and is now rising (positive if it continues). MACD Indicator: The MACD is above zero and is rising (positive if it continues). It is above its 9-day Average (positive).

Further, the index is above its 5, 15, 25 and 200 days moving averages and all the four averages are rising and also positively trended. Moreover, the index has crossed above a major resistance level at the 6621 points level. The velocity parameters too indicate strength. All these indicate a positive bias and the possibility of a further up move unfolding. Investors are advised to hold long positions.

The report said a rate hike of either 0.25 to 0.50 % by RBI in the next two quarters will push the number of stressed companies in the BSE500 companies by 14-15 %. The credit rating agency said its analysis of BSE-500 companies suggests that the stress on the balance sheet debt will grow to 16 % in case of rate hike from the 15 % in December last. Analysts expect RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan to hold rates at the review, given that there has been some cooling in the consumer price based, or retail inflation, and the February's 8.1 % is close to the RBI target of having it at 8 % by January 2015. However, some challenges persist in the form of recent instances of unseasonal rains as well as a likelihood

Aviation stocks edged higher yesterday - led by Jet Airways which gained over 3 per cent - following RBI extending the period for overseas borrowings for airlines to next March and the Competition Appellate Tribunal dismissing a plea against the Jet-Etihad deal. The Reserve Bank had yesterday extended the deadline for the aviation sector to raise funds through external commercial borrowings till March 2015, a move that provided relief to the sector facing cash-crunch. As per the earlier guidelines, the scheme was initially valid till December 31, 2013. That apart, the Competition Appellate Tribunal today dismissed the appeal challenging fair trade watchdog CCI's approval for the Rs 2,060 crore Jet-Etihad deal, Reacting to the developments, shares of Jet Airways, jumped 7.04 per cent to touch an intra-day high of Rs 237.85 on the BSE. At the end of the trading session the stock was quoted at Rs 228.85, up 3.09 per cent from its previous closing price. Similarly the SpiceJet counter opened on a bullish note at Rs 13.32, then gained further ground and touched an intra-day high of Rs 14.05 on the BSE. Market analysts said the jump was largely a reaction to the RBI move of extending the ECB borrowing window. Moreover, Jet Airways counter also gathered momentum after the favourable decision from the Compat, which dismissed Former Air India Executive Director Jitendra Bhargava's plea against Jet-Etihad deal. Bhargava had filed the appeal questioning the decision of CCI to approve the Jet-Etihad deal without carrying out a detailed assessment. The tribunal's ruling would come as a relief for Jet and Etihad as the deal has run into various regulatory hurdles.

A Preliminary probe by SEBI found that the Uttar Pradesh based company was inviting applications to book plots of residential/commercial land under 'Land-Linked - One Time Payment Plan' scheme. This plan was in the nature of unauthorised 'Collective Investment Scheme (CIS)'.

Indian Hotels To Raise Rs 1,000 Cr Through Rights Issue

Tata group firm Indian Hotels plans to raise up to Rs 1,000 crore through rights issue from its existing shareholders. In a filing to the BSE, Indian Hotels said the company in its board meeting held yesterday approved the scheme to raise up to Rs 1,000 crore by issuing compulsory convertible debentures. The board also approved reclassification of authorised share capital of the company aggregating to Rs 200 crore by dividing into 100 crore equity shares of Re 1 each and 1 crore cumulative redeemable preferences shares of Rs 100 each into 200 crore equity shares of Rs 1 each aggregating to Rs 200 crore.

‘Main Tera Hero’ stars travel in unregistered cars

HE cast of the upcoming film Main Tera Hero, comprising of Varun Dhawan, Nargis Fakhri and Ileana D'Souza ran into a spot of trouble while promoting their film in Indore. Apparently, the trio was travelling in a convoy of three BMW's when they were stopped by the flying squad of the transport department, under suspicion that arose because of the fake number plates on two of the three cars. The convoy was stopped at the Raddison crossing to check the illegal number plates on the cars. On interrogating the drivers of the car, the officials found out that the cars were not registered as the drivers could not produce the registration papers. Before seizing the two cars, they asked the actors to get down and sit in the third car and leave.On further inquiry, it was found that the cars were demo vehicles. was taken against the actors.

Purab Kohli plays water finder in ‘Jal’ Purab Kohli has made his mark in films like ‘Rock On’, ‘Awaarapan’, ‘Bas Ek Pal’ and ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’. Now his much awaited movie ‘Jal’ is about to release and we got him speaking about his latest outing. Some excerpts. By Sandeep Hattangadi

‘Jal’ is an important release for you. Yes. I am on tenterhooks right now and praying that the film will be a success at the box office because I have worked very hard for it.

What is the story of ‘Jal’? ‘Jal’ is about the specially endowed persons who are called water diviners who can whiff the source of water just by looking at the land to help build wells and bore wells especially in villages, arid areas and drought affected areas.

Did you have any reference point for your character? Yes. In fact I have interacted with such persons on my family-owned land when we had to dig bore wells. How did you like working with director Girish Malik? He is an actor himself so he enacts the entire scenes for us actors and he is passionately into film making, totally immersed in his art and comes prepared on the sets. The fact that the film has won acclaim in Busan Film Festival and IFFI Goa speaks volumes about him. Who are the leading ladies in the film? Half German and half Russian

model Saidah Jules plays a journalist who wants to make a documentary on me, Kriti Kulhari who plays my love interest and Tannishtha Chatterjee. Ravi Gossain, a stage actor has a supporting part.

Where was the film shot? Most of the film was shot in Kutch.

Has the appreciation for ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’ helped you? Yes. I am getting more offers and people respect me now as an actor. What next? I have a film called ‘Tere Mere Sapne’coming up in May.

EW DELHI: In a big setback to BCCI President N Srinivasan, the Supreme Court proposed his replacement by Sunil Gavaskar and suspension of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) along with Rajasthan Royals (RR) from IPL 7 till the pendency of case of betting and spot fixing scandal before it. The court said it is intending to bar CSK, owned by India Cements, which is promoted by Srinivasan, and RR, whose players and team officials are allegedly involved in the scandal, from participating in the IPL 7 tournament slated to begin from April 16. A bench headed by Justice A K Patnaik proposed the name of veteran cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar to head the Board during the pendency of the case in the apex court. The bench asked the Board to give its response by tomorrow on its proposals after which it will pass an interim order. The bench also proposed to pass an order barring India Cements officials from getting involved with the functioning of BCCI after senior counsel Harish Salve, appearing for Cricket Association of Bihar, pointed out that many such officials are at present part of BCCI team. Salve also raised questions on the conduct of captain of Indian Cricket Team, M S Dhoni, who is also vice president of India Cements, saying that he is guilty of corrupt practices. At the beginning of the proceedings, BCCI placed before the apex court its proposal and assured that it will initiate disciplinary proceedings against persons concerned on the basis of Supreme Court-appointed Mudgal committee's report. BCCI, which was rapped day before yesterday by the apex court, came out with the proposal saying that it agrees to conduct proper probe in the IPL betting and spot fixing scandal.

"First and foremost, if the highest court suggests something, you have to do so but that has to be on record. I am currently contracted with BCCI as a commentator. But if Supreme Court wants me to do that, I will do it," Gavaskar said. "When the Supreme Court asks you, there is no question about it, there is not much you can do and I will

be happy to do what they ask me to do", he told NDTV. Gavaskar, a former Indian captain, said he would wait for the final order from the court. "I will consider it, it will be a huge honour that Supreme Court feels I will be good enough to do the job. But we will have to wait and watch until tomorrow in which direction it goes. There should be Anticorruption officials available for every team in IPL, so that young players will know where to approach." I would not be able to pass judgement on that. It is not my area. It is a completely different issue on which I have zero experience."

It's a bad day for BCCI. Things have gone far beyond and it will only hurt cricket a lot. But I think in the interest of cleaning up the game, may be the Supreme Court's observations are correct. Whatever the Supreme Court decides BCCI will have to abide by it. Most of the BCCI members are in dark about what is transpiring in the last 7-8 days. So, the BCCI should immediately, without any further delay, call Special General Body meeting and apprise all members about what has happened. UMBAI: After impressive outings in the Auto GP series where Narain Karthikeyan secured five wins and four poles, the former Formula One racer has secured a place with a Super Formula team, Impul Hoshino Racing for the entire season which would comprise of eight rounds to be held in Japan and South Korea. The Coimbatore born Karthikeyan said that there were many similarities between the Super Formula and Formula One and the former is just a shade lagging behind in terms of speed from its superior counterpart. Along with Formula One, the Super Formula will also have new cars on the track which are faster than their predecessors. “Pleasantly surprised that we have a new car this year, with the Dallara SF 14, 2.0 litre engine. Compared to Formula One last year, we were three seconds off on similar tyres. With F1 slowing down this year, we should be on par in terms of time. Former athlete Pat passes away

MUMBAI: Former Bombay athlete Pat Coutinho (nee Mendonca) passed away after a brief illness in Mumbai on Monday, March 24. She leaves behind her husband Florian and three children. Pat, an employee of Tatas was a sprinter and long jumper in her heyday. She had represented Bombay (now Mumbai) at the National Championships from 1944 to 1951 winning several individual medals. Her funeral was held on Tuesday and she was later cremated at the Chandanwadi crematorium.

MIRPUR: The Supreme Court's stern observations on the IPL fiasco appears to have rattled the BCCI bigwigs back home as India's media manager Dr R N Baba issued a gag order on the media, stating that questions will be entertained "only on ICC World Twenty20". Once Dr Baba came into the press conference arena with Rohit Sharma as captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni again stayed away, he first announced that questions should only be based on "India team and the World Twenty20". However, a senior scribe among the Indian media contingent promptly retorted, saying Dr Baba need not state the obvious as the journalists know that Rohit is not in a position to answer the questions pertaining to the IPL controversy. Yet, there were two Western scribes, who asked Rohit in a roundabout manner about whether the incidents (Supreme Court proceedings) back home has affected the team. Rohit handled both questions admirably without trying to duck for cover.
