Obituary
Rodger Dell King Sr. Rodger Dell King Sr. was born to Sirnester and Ethel Mae King of Elgin, Texas on July 4, 1939. He married Virginia Brown in 1961 and from this union, nine children were born. Rodger and Virginia divorced after fifteen years of marriage in 1976. June, 1984, Rodger married his high school sweetheart, Willie Rae Easley of Hutto, Texas. Although, no children were born from this union, Rodger and Willie Rae blended their pre-existing families into one large unit. He lovingly referred to all of the children as “theirs”. Rodger was a dedicated employee of the City of Austin and retired after 20 years of service. He possessed a strong work ethic and rarely missed a day of work. He openly admitted that he enjoyed a few “cold ones” and could get a little wild at times on the weekends. Rodger truly enjoyed the company of people and had many friends who considered him as a brother. He spoke fluent Spanish and unbeknown to some people, he also spoke Cambodian. Although, Rodger lived a good portion of his life on his own terms, on November 4, 2011, he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ. Rodger made his profession of faith in the presence of Pastor B.W. Hines, Angela, Jeanette, and his wife. Thereafter,
Rodger sought answers to questions in order to deepen his understanding and relationship with his Lord and Savior. He understood the importance of truly knowing the Lord for himself and not allowing the opinions of others to dictate his stance. Although he was unable to attend church, he was fed spiritually via home bible studies, discussions and prayer. On March 25, 2012 at 3:35 p.m., Rodger was escorted from this temporal earthly life to his eternal life with Jesus! Rodger was preceded in death by his parents: Sirnester and Ethel Mae King; one brother, John King; and three sisters, Jayne A. Fowler, Doris Boden, and Hattie Mae Jarmon. Rodger leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Willie Rae and sixteen children. “I’ll Fly Away”
The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. –Psalm 145:18-19
Rodger Dell King Sr. I'M FREE By Shannon Lee Mosley Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free I'm following the path God has chosen for me. I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I've now found peace at the end of day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Oh yes, these things, I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow Look for the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen your pain with undue grief. Lift up your heart and peace to thee, God wanted me now-He set me free
