Kingsland News March 2015 Dear Parishioners, Great Uncle Bulgaria – oh no – Great Uncle Lindsay taught me how to play the piano. I remember the lessons very well, he had a wooden leg as one of his own was cut off by a tram in an accident when he was a child. He played the organ which we found amusing, and wondered how he did that with one leg. Anyway he taught me a thing or two – I was always rather haphazard with my practice and when I got into the lesson and the piece went off ok I was relieved until Great Uncle Lindsay would say – the proof of whether you know something well is whether you can play it twice in succession correctly, and the scale or piece or whatever it was would invariably go wrong the second time and I knew I had been found out. It’s a pretty good test really. Lent is that test. It is a time to look and see whether we juggle our spiritual life and get by, or whether we go deep with God and have given the best we are to him. Jesus
said the first commandment is this: You shall Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind. I think I am found out by this. Perhaps it is time to have another go at it? We deceive ourselves if we think it doesn’t matter. Life is not a rehearsal! What can we offer to help – well for those who want to study the Bible and hear God’s word through it – there is ‘John’s Gospel Explored’ on Wednesday nights at the Rectory – 7.30 – 9pm. My wonderful husband is there to uncover some of the treasures in that book, or on Friday afternoons between 2 - 3pm there are a number of events either in Kingsland Church or the Methodist Church that are thought provoking and prayerful. And on Sundays we meet together in church. I think those who say I don’t need Church are like those who are educated at home instead of going to school – you can find out much by yourself,
