Dear Parishioners, May I wish you and your families and friends a healthy, happy and blessed New Year. God willing William Tavernor will turn 100 on New Year’s Eve and you will join with me in Church at 10.30am on New Year’s Day to join in the celebrations of his birthday and also of his 75 years as a priest. He became a priest on St Thomas’ Day (when that was celebrated on the 21st December). St Thomas, we remember because he was the one who was missing when the Risen Lord Jesus appeared to the disciples and he would not believe unless he himself saw the marks of the wounds in Jesus’ hands and the marks of the spear wound in his side. We call him doubting Thomas, but his was an honest doubting, in that he wanted to believe and searched for the thing that would convince him. Thomas was the first to exclaim to Jesus (when Jesus answered his demands) MY LORD AND MY GOD. Well I take my hat off to William who has been faithful to his Lord Jesus, his priesthood and to the Church for 75 years and may 2017 be a year of honest searching for us for the way of
truth and light and may the faith in Jesus help us in that. On 8th Jan we will celebrate Plough Sunday and pray for all our farmers as they begin a new year of making the land ready for a new harvest. We are surrounded by farm land and as you travel the roads and see the fields being ploughed and sown, say a prayer for our farmers and their families. At the end of January - on the 29th - we will be together over at Aymestrey as we think about the history of this part of the world, and the battle of Mortimer’s Cross fought on February 2nd 1461. The service is at 10.30 am and will be informative as well as worshipful so do come along and join us. And finally thank you to all who helped Christmas 2016 be such a special and joyous occasion! To Musicians and readers, to mulled wine and mince pie makers, to those who decorated the church and those who came and made such a goodly gathering. Thank you, Julie
