Advent & Xmas Greetings to all our Readers

December 2014

Kingsland News Dear Parishioners, Way back in August I went to Greenbelt, a Christian arts festival, with a small group from the parishes. The title this year of the event was “Travelling light” and we realised why when we had to walk a distance from the car with all our camping gear and wished we’d travelled with less equipment! But as we journeyed through the weekend we saw another meaning to the title – that our faith in Jesus was like a travelling light for our lives and that wherever we went we had light to guide us. I don’t know whether you, like me, remember reading for the first time in church when young? I had to read Isaiah chapter 9 at a carol service when I was 11…the people that walk in darkness have seen a great light, they that walk in the valley of the shadow of death, upon them has the light shined. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was one

that most synagogues had, along with the first five books of the old testament and its words would have been well known. When Jesus came into this world he was recognised as being this light, a light that reaches down into the deep valleys in which we often find ourselves, not able to see out to the beauty of everything around. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, the light of the world, in the darkest time of the year, and as we head there this year, I hope you will take hold of that travelling light in your lives and whether you are in a deep valley or on top of the world, will rejoice in the birth of that source of light for our lives. There is a Christingle service at Leinthall Earles Church on Sunday December 14th at 3.30pm and Kingsland Carol Service this year is on Sunday 21st December at 4pm in Kingsland Church: come and hear the story of a saviour’s birth.
