You grow up in Savannah, How has your work evolved why did you decide to come to since your first show? Savannah Arts Academy? I’ve become more daring, more I wanted the best for my education and my 3 older siblings had also attended. I’ve always been a fan of art but wanted to become better, maybe find my passion.

serious. I used to be so afraid of the possible aspect that people will think it’s too “weird, obnoxious, out there”. I’ve come to realize, everyone has their own opinion, and that Why did you decide to become shouldn’t change mine. Since my first show my outfits have become more a fashion designer? I had Mrs. Scoggins as my first art colorful and diverse, in shape and in teacher and she would talk about style. I also have perfected my art of the show and the constant creativity dumpster diving. ps. raccoons don’t that was being showcased. The show like to share their hiding spots. was getting bigger and so were the garments, I didn’t want to miss out. Who is your favorite fashion I had taken a fashion class in the past designer and why? but the outfits they had us make were The King himself Alexander from the books, plain Jane. I wanted Mcqueen. He’s bold, yet elegant. shape, color, and uniqueness. There’s so much detail and time put into creating his collections. Even What sparked your interest after his death, his label still remains in fashion? strong, that’s how much of a legacy Definitely my mom. No other woman dresses the way she does. he was. Actually today she was wearing her lobster outfit. Where does someone buy lobster shoes?? She doesn’t want me to dress how people expect me to dress. She taught me to dress for me and only for me.

Are there any types of clothing that you avoid wearing? Sheer/mesh clothes. Honestly, I feel like it defeats the purpose of clothes sometimes.

What is your favorite part How did you select the about being a fashion designer? materials you used? I guess it’s the end result. In the end you see what you created on stage and; it’s all worth it. People are cheering, you’re getting hugs from random strangers, and there’s this adrenaline that you can’t find anywhere else. It’s that fuzzy “Wow I’m going to be sick but I just can’t stop smiling” kinda feeling.

I had to think a lot about the shape of the garment I was looking for. I also had to take into account how it would move onstage and the comfort of the models who would be wearing it. I went through over 2,000 foam plates. When choosing a medium you have to know that you can obtain as much as you need, luckily, my pantry had plenty.

“I wouldn’t say I’m superstitious, more like constantly paranoid for the worst case scenario. I like to live by the rule that anything can happen, the best and worst.”

What were your inspirations for the designs What are you fascinated by at the moment and you created for the show? how does it feed into your work? I didn’t want to use designs that were already space themed for inspiration, or movie costumes from Sci-Fi films. I wanted something different than the stereotypical vision of what a space themed outfit would be. I was inspired by the idea of advanced, ancient civilizations, the cryptic symbols of old text, and ancient cultural dress meeting technology.

What’s your motto?

“Honey, hot glue can’t fix everything”

Beadwork. A delicate addition of beads can truly transform an outfit. I like to add it to simple headpieces and tops that need a little umph

Were the materials difficult to work with?

Yes, no doubt. I had to use a lot of heating processes to prepare my materials before I could even attach them to the outfit. I had to iron hundreds of garbage bags into sheets of melted plastic in order to make them sturdy. You should have seen the reaction of people when they asked
