your VOTE is your VOICE Get Out and Vote Tuesday, April 4! You will have the opportunity to vote on whether or not the City should impose a half-cent sales tax for Parks and Recreation in the upcoming General Municipal Election on April 4, 2017! If approved, this tax will provide a dedicated revenue stream for Parks and Recreation for the first time in Kirksville’s history, allowing improvements to be made across all City parks and recreation areas, the construction of a new Aquatic Center, and the repurposing of the existing Aquatic Center into a community center. You will also be able to vote for two of the following three candidates for two positions on the City Council: Richard “Rick” Steele (incumbent), Jerry Michael Mills (incumbent), and Kevin A. Alm. All City Council positions are three-year terms. On April 10, 2017, the Council will select both the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem, who will then serve for the next year. Be sure to vote April 4, 2017! Disconnecting Services If you are moving and need to disconnect your water/sewer/trash services, contact the Finance Department! Without taking this step, you will continue to be responsible for the bill. Schedule a disconnection up to 30 days in advance by doing one of the following:

Appliance Recycling & Pickup Spring is here, and used appliance pickup will be held during the week of April 24 through April 28, 2017. Victory Metals & Recycling LLC, our local recycling company, at 3602 North Industrial Road, will again provide both the pickup and the disposal of household appliances. Eligible appliances include: refrigerators, freezers, stoves, ovens, air conditioning units, washers, dryers, dishwashers, furnaces, hot water heaters, and space heaters. Please contact Victory Metals & Recycling LLC at 660.665.8000 to schedule the pickup of your old appliances. Victory Metals & Recycling has offered this free service to Kirksville citizens for several years now. Please thank them for their services! 1/2 Cent Sales Tax for Parks & Recreation On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, voters will be asked whether or not to approve a half-cent sales tax for Parks and Recreation, which will be for an initial fifteen years. If approved, the funds will be used to maintain and improve all City parks and recreation areas, construct a new Aquatic Center, and repurpose the existing Aquatic Center into a community center.
Important Dates
The improvements and major maintenance projects for our City parks haven’t received as much attention as other parts of the proposed 1/2 cent sales tax for Parks and Recreation. We wanted 04/03—Council Meeting, 6:00 pm to take the opportunity, then, to outline exactly what just some of those improvements and major 04/04—LPRC Meeting, 12:00 pm maintenance projects are for our City parks: 04/05—KHPC Meeting, 4:00 pm Brashear Park: 04/10—Council Study Session, 6:00 pm ADA compliant sidewalk to make the existing shelter house more accessible. 04/11—ATC Meeting, 12:00 pm A new shelter house to expand the use of Brashear Park for barbecues, parties, etc. 04/12—P&Z Meeting, 6:30 pm Hazel Creek Lake: 04/17—Council Meeting, 6:00 pm A new shelter house for use during picnics, fishing tournaments, and other events. 04/28—Monthly Warning Siren Test, Burn rings to promote safe campfires for recreational purposes. 10:00 am
