WILLIE FOWLKES Race Director Fidelity Investments The Woodlands Marathon Houston Methodist The Woodlands Half Marathon
Finishing along the waterway is the most beautiful finish in the south. We take great pride in offering runners from across the globe the opportunity to experience a world-class venue and run their personal best. Our courses are some of the fastest in the country and one of the fastest in Texas in terms of average finishing times. We are eager for runners to experience our fast, single loop full marathon course, which has earned the distinction of being one of the Top 25 courses in the United States and Canada to qualify runners for the Boston Marathon. The event kicks off the Saturday prior with The Woodlands 5k and Pathfinder Pediatric 2k Fun Run. The Houston Methodist Health and Fitness Expo presented by The Woodlands Township will take place on March 6th at our new venue, the Cynthia Woods-Mitchell Pavilion Event Center. We finish on Saturday, March 7th, with the running of the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay events. Please help us by thanking all of our outstanding sponsors and volunteers. A tremendous thanks to our local businesses, residents within The Woodlands, the Commissioner of Precinct Three of Montgomery County, The Woodlands Township, The Woodlands Convention & Visitors, The Woodlands Development Company, Howard Hughes Corporation and our race committee. We want to thank everyone involved for making this a World Class Event!!!

IMPORTANT Transportation From Exchange Points
Each member will be responsible for his or her transportation to the exchange points along the course. The Woodlands Marathon Management will transport runners from the exchange points back to the race site (Front of Town Green Park and HEB on Lake Robbins Drive). Teams are not required to check in together prior to the race. Shuttle vans will begin running at 7:30am and we expect them to depart every 20-25 minutes. Please arrive to the area with enough time to park and make your way to the exchange point. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL RACE MORNING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE YOU ARE GOING TO YOUR EXCHANGE POINT OR YOU WILL MISS YOUR RACE.
TEAM MEMBER EMERGENCY
There will be ambulance and bike EMS teams providing medical support along the
course. Runners will have access to medical support at each Aid Station adjacent to the water stop along the course, as well as the finish line. If an emergency with one of your team members arises, we do the best we can to notify the existing members of a withdraw or emergency situation.
FINISHER MEDALS
Each team’s final runner will receive their medal as they cross the finish line. The Finish line medal attendants will be available to help other team members obtain their medals. Once the Relay is complete, medals will be released to other members.
JOINING YOUR TEAM MEMBER AT THE FINISH LINE
The Woodlands Marathon Management will not be held responsible for runners being back to the finish line to meet their team members for run in. Each team should come up with their unique location to meet up after the finish. There are several locations to choose from. The Results Zone, the Beer Garden, Front of Town Green Park, or the Food & Beverage Tents, the back of the Marriott. Please discuss a meeting location with your team members before race day to make sure everyone is in agreement on the location. Relay Team Members may run in together. They will need to stay single file and wait until they are upon the finish line before coming together. Please be sure to respect the individual runners on the course.

RACE TIPS
6 Tips For Your First Race
If you’re getting ready for your first race, here are some pointers to help you get there successfully.
Make sure nothing you wear is new.
Everything on your body, from socks to a headband should be road-tested.
Line up with runners of similar ability (corral assignments).
Use the water stations.
Keep yourself hydrated. Sports drinks can help keep your energy up.
If you run a nine-minute mile find the part of the pack that runs your pace, and that won’t be at the front. Being swept into a pace that is too fast will be a bad experience and, of course, isn’t fair to the faster runners who will have to navigate around you.
Don’t be disheartened when other runners pass you during the race.
Always begin slowly.
It is depressing to finish without a finish line and an official time. For a 10K, the cutoff is usually 1:30; for 15K, from 1:40 to 2:00; for some marathons, as much as 6:00.
The easiest mistake for a beginning racer to make is to respond to the exuberance of the race and head out too fast. Doing so
50
begs for an injury or at best a rotten finish because you spent your energy too early in the course.
2020 The Woodlands Marathon
There will always be runners in front of you--and behind you.
Know when the cutoff time is for your race so that you can pace yourself accordingly.
