We’ll start by learning a process for creating the cornerstone to a brand identity, the logotype. First we will look at iconic logos and analyze what makes a logo memorable, when and why a symbol is used, when to look alike and when to be original. We’ll learn how to use a logo, tagline, color and typography to make a lasting impression and a cohesive identity - a look that reflects your brand. We’ll explore how to use illustration, typography and photography to enrich your brand in advertising, online and in print collateral. Create a logo, style sheet, set rules and regulations - we’ll learn how to make them, and when to break them. Students learn how to work with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign to create the artwork and understand how these programs complement each other in the creation of digital files. Familiarity with the software is helpful but not essential.

MEMBER / NON MEMBER TUITION: $145 / $170 Plus $45 models fee

We’ll explore types of soft pastels (no oil pastels, please) and different surfaces to work on. With good weather we may go outside to paint part of the time. The workshop is suitable for beginning and intermediate pastelists.
Free Your Art Wednesday Sorokin May 17 and 18, 10AM to 4PM NCPD05SP14: Saturday and Sunday (two days) Location: Little Red, South Williamstown MEMBER/ NON-MEMBER TUITION: $145 / $170
The desire to be inspired is the only prerequisite for this workshop. We will use a variety of techniques designed not only to provide you with access to your own limitless well of creativity, but also the means of expressing it. It’s a great way into abstraction, or a great way to develop your abstract vocabulary. Strengthen all your artwork by learning and incorporating principles of design. Most importantly, the class provides an opportunity for you to free yourself from your inner critic, learn to trust your intuition, and open yourself to inspiration. Find the place inside yourself that knows. Great for the novice as well as the more accomplished painter.
In this workshop, we will create on-site pen and ink drawings of Caretaker Farm and Cricket Creek Farm and work to capture the sense of a New England farm. We will learn to render the visual impact of a scene by first selecting motifs that can tell a visual story. We will sketch in pencil and then use pen and ink. Fine tune your eye and exercise your drawing muscle! In case of downpour, we will head indoors at Little Red and sketch elements of farm life until the skies clear.

Leave reservation, pre-conception, and the contemporary world at home as we dive into this week of visual/literary liberation!

We will paint directly from observation - looking at the model, simplifying the figure into planes of color. The focus will be on mixing the oil paint to create tonal relationships that function as light and shadow.

Focus on the emotional part of being an artist! This is a discussion group for artists grappling with various aspects of the creative process. It is an opportunity to talk, in a supportive setting, about the artwork you are pursuing and struggles in accomplishing your goals. Feelings of isolation, mental blocks, performance anxiety, and anxiety about showing and earning a living are some of the issues the group might identify as salient. Use of dreams, fantasy and reverie are potential areas for exploration. Our aim is to support the individual in doing what he or she wants to do – to facilitate and respect each artist’s vision. The group is open to both practicing and aspiring artists, as well as to those pursuing visual, performing and literary arts, and crafts.
