Almost 25 years ago Becky began her journey into the Medical Spa business. Combining her training as a Registered Nurse with her passion of helping people look and feel their best sprouted a community of like-minded individuals. Over the years the business of beauty has become an amalgamation of treatments and products that affect not only the outside but actually have an impact at the cellular level on the inside. Not only has Becky maintained her standing with her nursing association, she has added multiple certifications in laser treatments, cosmetic injections, fitness, nutrition, yoga, BioIdentical Hormone Replacement Therapy, and PRP therapy. She is also a trainer for physicians and nurses for injection techniques (for Restylane) throughout Western Canada. She has a strong desire to educate the public and her peers on the importance of natural enhancements and safety within the Medical Spa industry.
One location lead to two and now her team consists of over 34 staff including physicians, Physicians Assistants, RNs, skin/laser techs, CoolSculpting techs, and permanent makeup artists. They are a dedicated team constantly studying, training, and progressing to deliver the best possible results to their clients. Having some of the most highly trained staff in the industry, they help women on the journey of feeling and looking their best. PUBLISHER
Launched in 2017, The KNOW Book + Tribe began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Tribe around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Book + Tribe has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

FOOD & BEVERAGE ANDREA SCADE OWNER + DOER OF ALL OF THE THINGS, ALL OF THEM. Andrea, husband David, and son Axel [aka “The Boss”], opened Black Diamond Distillery in February 2018, making it the first ever craft distillery in St. Albert, AB.
But after a lengthy career as a Strength + Conditioning Coach, craft distilling is a far cry from where Andrea’s journey began. She’s always had a passion for the entrepreneur-life and never been shy about working in a male-dominated industry, holding true in the world of distilling. What started as a hobby has proven to be worth the long hours, crazy schedule and non-stop learning. “The community’s
excitement for what we do is really what drives us to keep growing”. It’s been a whirlwind, having only met in late 2014, Andrea and David dated, married, had their first child, started a business, and are now expecting their second kiddo in September 2019! “I wouldn’t trade a single minute of our crazy life!”.

FOOD & BEVERAGE AMANDA HOOVER STRAIN Amanda Strain has always had a love for food. She began traveling the world at only 15 years old as an international model and it took her from France to New York and all over Europe where she experienced unforgettable culinary adventures. Eventually it brought her to Milan where Amanda’s love for food turned to passion. When she returned home at the age of 22, she began her work in the service industry. She shifted into nursing school and while she thrived, she shortly realized it was not the career for her. Her next step was interior design and is currently her educational pursuit. All the while, her passion didn’t fade. Her talent for hosting parties and planning events, holidays, and get-togethers for family and friends began to grow into something more. CURED took form and Amanda is ecstatic to be running a charcuterie based catering business in a community she’s always called home.

MARIEL MONTERO SENA HUMA MEXICAN COMFORT I was born in Puebla, a city in the centre of Mexico, and learned to appreciate good home-cooking from my Abuelita (grandmother). After graduating from 5 years of culinary school I looked forward to travelling and honing my skills at various restaurants in Mexico, Spain and Montreal, Canada. I saw Canada as a land of great opportunities where I could realize a dream of opening my own restaurant to feature the
Mexican home-style cooking I grew up with. I came to Canada in 2007, became a contestant on Chopped Canada Season 1, and experimented with several well-received “Taco Days” pop-ups before opening my own establishment, HUMA, in 2015. I’m proud to say I became a Canadian citizen in 2017. The opportunity to be successful in any business venture in Canada, is definitely available to anyone willing to do the work. A passion for cooking and sharing my Abuela’s recipes has been realized in this country I now call home. PHOTO CREDIT: JINSEI PHOTOGRAPHICS

HEALTH & WELLNESS In 2012 Catalina began brewing her own elderberry syrup out of her home to share the goodness with friends and family. Soon, word spread about her dedication to a quality, effective and delicious syrup. Elderberries have been used for centuries to treat colds, flus, and more than 70 maladies. As her business grew, in 2016 she decided to bring these benefits to the shelves of families all over Alberta. She experienced firsthand the power of a local community. With their support and a lot of hardwork, Catalina introduced Feel Good Syrup to retailers all across Alberta and most recently to the US!
There is much expansion on the horizon including a new name! Feel Good Syrup is So Elderberry Good! A new name only. Her recipe and mission remain the same- to offer a delicious, versatile, freshly brewed elderberry syrup using only real ingredients. Not to mention, in a family sized bottle at an affordable price! Nimi came up with the idea of HauteCoton while sitting in a nutrition class about organic farming vs. conventional farming. That’s when she made the connection between food and natural textiles. Not many people realize the textile industry is one of the most toxic industries and one of the biggest polluters of clean water. “It got me thinking...We spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, why would I want to lay in synthetic fabrics that are laced with formaldehyde, petroleum and micro plastics every single night? ”
Determined to find a safer alternative to conventional bedding, Nimi travelled to India to research cotton farming and find an organic supplier with sustainable farming practices and fair working conditions. Viewing her products as skincare, HauteCoton is a luxury, home textile company, providing premium organic bedding, duvet covers, crib sheets and pillowcases. HauteCoton will also be producing an eco-luxury line of loungewear and lingerie, coming soon.

HOME & LIFE NICOLA DOHERTY, CHRISTINE BRUCKMANN, KIM OUELLETTE, DEANNE FERGUSON, CHRIS REEVE Alberta Mamas is an online community for parents in Alberta created by parents in Alberta. Kimberly, Chris, Deanne, Nicola, and Christine work together to share, educate, and support Alberta parents on important topics. Empowering women with stories of real people in the trenches of motherhood is near and dear to the Mamas. In keeping with their values, they encourage their readers to submit their own unique stories. The Alberta Mamas inspire and support each other in the same way that they hope the people in their online community can inspire and support one another. Alberta Mamas is a passion project, and these ladies all wear many other “hats”. They’ve learned that women can work together AND be good friends, which makes Alberta Mamas a sisterhood rather than a company. Collectively, the ladies have experience in all types of professional work but it was motherhood that brought them together. PHOTO CREDIT: JINSEI PHOTOGRAPHICS

When I was in school, I photographed fresh bread from the local Italian Bakery. The aroma, intensified by the studio lights, drew fellow students to investigate what I was shooting. They hovered, waiting for me to get the shot so they could eat. We shared bread. Grateful, hungry students and friends came together. This is the power of food. Food is connection. The creators of food add a part of themselves and not only nourish others but add a little soul to what they make. For every bite of food we take, there is a story behind it. Creating food photos and videos is not a commercial pursuit; it is art. It is my passion. Making custom sets and props and using the right lighting to bring it all together allows me to tell the food and people stories for my clients. And it’s a beautiful thing.
