Launched in 2017, The KNOW Book + Tribe was created as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of diverse women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Tribe around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Book + Tribe has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada. Today, we are excited to unveil our second volume of KNOW Phoenix. The women featured in this book have been vetted against our high standards. I am proud to say that each and every woman featured is filled with integrity, vision, and grace. Welcome to KNOW Phoenix!

AMBASSADORS
While our industries are different, one aspect about all three of us is the same- our dedication to empowering women. Each of us are leaders in our respective fields and it is important for all of us to contribute outside of our workplaces. We champion for philanthropic causes as well as provide women in our community with opportunities to grow personally and professionally, as each of us have not gotten to where we are without someone providing us with opportunities along the way.
Stacy Bendet of Alice + Olivia said, “Here’s to strong women. May we KNOW them, may we be them, may we raise them.” As we are here in 2019, there is never a better time to be part of women’s empowerment. As your KNOW Phoenix Ambassadors, we encourage all of you to continue being an extension of that.
Celebrate each other’s wins, support each other when it is needed the most, and never let roadblocks get in the way of your greatness.

LUCIEK MKRDICHIAN THE LOCAL BARBER AND SHOP My husband and I established The Local Barber and Shop In 2015 in uptown. The idea behind our brand was to create local community. A place that people can come to and unwind, grab a beer, connect and walk out feeling and looking good. Services provided are haircuts, beard trims and hot towel shaves. Each of the barbers are highly trained and experts at their craft. The experience is that anyone in a barber chair has a consultation so that we can create the cut and style our clients look for.
The Local Barber and Shop is growing in the community with a second location that opened in 2018 in downtown Phoenix. Our goal is to continue to grow our presence and give back to the community.

Raised by parents who struggled with drug addiction, Carrie lived a childhood filled with setbacks, heartbreak and challenges. At 13, her parents left her and her three siblings to live alone. Carrie started working as a teenager to help support her remaining family. At the young age of 20, she became a single mother to a beautiful daughter.
Carrie’s path would be different than her parents. She kept moving forward and invoked survival. She eventually found a job as an administrative assistant with LGE Design Build. She continued climbing over the course of 15 years eventually becoming C.A.O. and partner in business ventures.
Carrie Garcia could have been a statistic. Instead, she’s a leading force for one of the Valley’s top commercial design build firms — and a proud mother as well. Her combination of perseverance, empathy, life experience and professional experience differentiate her in her field and make her an ideal woman to connect with in the Valley business community.

The Powerhouse Women event and online community were born out of the belief that women are designed to create, and that when women get into action around their big ideas, the world works better (because it does!) Founder Lindsey Schwartz is a wellness entrepreneur and best-selling author of Powerhouse Woman: How to get out of your own way, fulfill your unique purpose, and live a powerful life. After seeing numerous women in her life stop short of pursuing their own entrepreneurial dreams because of fear and self-doubt, she saw the need for more honest conversations about the ups & downs of entrepreneurship in order to show women that they don’t have to have it all together to get started. From there, the Powerhouse Women community and annual event were born, with the motto that we’re not meant to do business (or life) alone!

MEREDITH YOUNG MEREDITH YOUNG JEWELRY Meredith was wild about working with a torch and metal from the age of 16. Her grandparents’ home in Green Valley, Arizona spurred an early interest in minerals and the lapidary arts. Meredith attended Marist High School which allowed her to fill her curriculum with different studio art classes, as well as, art history classes. These teachers, along with her parents, were paramount in her development as an artist. In college she majored in Art History with a minor in English at the University of Georgia, concentrating in sculpture and contemporary installation art. Upon graduation, Meredith reverted back to “making art,” filling her evenings and weekends with metalsmithing classes and workshops. For nearly a decade, she worked in a corporate business development career and designed and created jewelry at night in her studio selling her jewelry in local boutiques. In 2016 when she took her passion full time, launching her first collections of fine jewelry and one-of-a-kind works of art. Made in LA and Arizona, her jewelry seeks to combine opposed visual aesthetics: the geometric and the organic, chaos and order, and negative and positive space.

Tiffany has been speaking and educating on both the techniques and the mindset of self-defense for over 20 years. She is also determined to keep the community safe in another way. After realizing her attacker was able to enter the home because it was not secured effectively, she became the Vice President of her family’s locksmith and security company, Pop-A-Lock Locksmiths. Raquel Kahn has had a love affair with dance for as long as she can remember. With a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University, Raquel worked in various tech and energy roles. While these 9-5 jobs paid the bills, they never inspired her. So in the beginning of 2017 she decided to leave engineering and pursue a “passion-project;” opening a dance fitness studio. Raquel got into the world of fitness in 2009, but felt that traditional gyms did not serve women particularly well, often making them feel small and uncertain. At the same time, the increasingly popular realm of boutique fitness fell short in fostering inclusivity and sense of community. She built Fit 6-7-8 to bridge this gap, striving to give women a safe place to build both their bodies and their confidence. Raquel takes pride in the supportive and vivacious community created at Fit 6-7-8. PHOTO CREDIT: IT'S ELIZABETH MARIE PHOTOGRAPHY

TERRY BENELLI LISC PHOENIX
As executive director of LISC Phoenix, Terry Benelli is all about asset management, capital investment and balanced ledgers. But when this nonprofit leader takes care of business, it’s in the interest of building inclusive communities that nurture the wisdom and creativity of local leaders.
For Terry, comprehensive community development is not possible without targeted investment in people and small businesses. She is dedicated to ensuring residents of marginalized neighborhoods acquire assets they desire for upward mobility — jobs, safe and stable housing and communities designed to promote health.
The Phoenix office of Local Initiatives Support Corporation makes capital investments with an equitable lens. In 2017, LISC Phoenix invested $24 million that leveraged an additional $112 million.
Terry oversees a community development operation that takes into account education opportunity, community safety, social and cultural cohesion and access to health care. LISC-infused projects and programs thwart the devastating forces of gentrification and displacement.

ELIZABETH AYERS-CLUFF IMPACT ONE Elizabeth Ayers-Cluff received her BSW in Social Work from Arizona State University. In 2009, at 37 she began her battle with breast cancer. After years of treatments and surgery came to an end, she realized that while there were all kinds of information about breast cancer awareness, prevention and research, there was very little support to help women in the trenches to help women in the “now”. She took her years of experience in the non-profit sector and formed Impact One Breast Cancer Foundation. She has assisted over 600 women diagnosed with breast cancer. The Hope Box program has helped women in underserved communities— women who have been forgotten or women who simply just need Hope! Most of her energy has focused on supporting women who need additional services to help aid in their recovery. NOTABLE DIANA TAURASI Success is the word that directly correlates with Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi at every level of basketball she’s played in throughout her entire career. During her 14-year career with the Mercury, she’s a three-time WNBA Champion, four-time WNBA Olympic gold medalist, eighttime WNBA All-Star, 2009 WNBA MVP and the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, and also won three NCAA national championships while at the University of Connecticut. Needless to say, Taurasi isn’t just the greatest women’s basketball player of all time, she’s one of the greatest players to ever pick up a basketball. Her unwavering willingness to win, clutch performances and phenomenal play has garnished attention from some of the NBA’s biggest names such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant, who deemed Taurasi the “White Mamba.” While Taurasi’s DNA her entire life has essentially been basketball, motherhood became a new title for her in March of 2018, as she and wife Penny Taylor welcomed Leo Taurasi-Taylor into the world. Whether on the court or off it, Diana Taurasi knows what success is, and there’s no greater basketball player or person who embodies it. dianataurasi.com Phoenix Mercury 201 E Jefferson St. Phoenix, AZ 85004 2019 117

In 2005, Danica stunned the world by leading 19 laps and finishing fourth in her first Indianapolis 500. She became the first woman to lead laps and score a top-five finish in the historic race. In 2008, Danica made history again becoming the first woman to win a major-league open-wheel race in a North

In 2013, as Danica transitioned to the NASCAR Cup Series, she made headlines around the world with her record-setting performance in the 55th Daytona 500 race. She became the first woman to win a NASCAR Cup Series pole when she set the fastest time in qualifying 500 and then finished in eighth place, the highest finishing position ever for a woman in the “Great American Race.” In 2018, Danica closed out her time in racing with the “Danica Double” and competed in two marquee events that were cornerstones of her career: the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500. Moving into her next chapter, retired from racing, Danica’s focus has shifted to her role as an entrepreneur and business owner. Danica has launched the clothing line – Warrior by Danica Patrick, authored a book, Pretty Intense, and is the sole proprietor of Somnium, a vineyard in Napa Valley, California. KNOW Phoenix is an annual publication that features dynamic women throughout the city in virtually every industry. Every woman featured in KNOW Phoenix has been vetted through peer-review. Because our mission is to showcase the best and brightest, the only way one can claim their slot is through nomination from someone in the KNOW book. The women featured are a compilation of proven leaders, high producers, and rising stars. Those published in KNOW Phoenix are also considered trendsetters, influencers, and women to watch. KNOW Phoenix is published annually and distributed to affluent decision makers through social and networking events and partnering businesses. While deemed the new who’s who, KNOW Phoenix also delivers readers a vetted list of local female-run businesses. Simply open the KNOW book and find the next woman-led local business you can support with services and goods you need now!
KNOW Phoenix is produced by Know Tribe, LLC. and published annually. The women featured in this issue have been vetted by their peers and are known leaders in their industry. For consideration in an upcoming volume of KNOW, go to: www.theknowtribe.com and complete a submission.
