from the PUBLISHER
Launched in 2017, The KNOW Book + Tribe began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Tribe around the women featured
in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together, and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Book + Tribe has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

As a child and young adult, Karianne had very low self-esteem; she countered this by attempting to be perfect, but never took the time to understand who she really was. She continued down a path of perfection that led to many endeavors that weren’t right for her. Karianne started a journey to get to know her real self in her 30s. On her spiritual journey, she connected back to the thing that brought her joy as a child…photography…and discovered an innate talent to capture a woman’s true inner beauty. Through her own transformative portrait experience, Karianne gained the confidence and self-love she was lacking. She now provides that experience to other women to help them love themselves in portraits. #realisthenewperfect Personally, Karianne is a wife, stepmother, mommy, and doggy momma.

Just the facts: Fact #1: Cancer doesn’t end when treatment does … strange words coming from a woman who was declared free of disease eight years ago. But after treatment for Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Judy Pearson discovered it will forever be a part of her life story. Fact #2: There is treasure in all of life’s wreckage, and we all owe a payback to humanity. Combining those unwavering beliefs, this award-winning writer and public speaker founded the non-profit A 2nd Act. The organization raises awareness for cancer survivorship, and guides women survivors of all cancers toward finding the purpose in their experience. By helping others, those survivors are healing themselves. Fact #3: Judy’s enthusiasm for her 2nd Act has driven her to bring this message to thousands, via books, workshops and live storytelling events. And it’s garnered her numerous awards, including being named one of Chicago’s most inspirational women. PHOTO CREDIT: KARIANNE MUNSTEDT PORTRAIT

CATHY BROWN / JUNIOR LEAGUE OF PHOENIX FOUNDATION As the daughter of a single mom, anthropologist, and mountain climber, Cathy was surrounded by conversations about identity and community. These experiences laid the foundation for her love of travel, people, and the communities we call home. After completing her undergraduate degree in Justice at ASU, Cathy combined her love of travel and community building and moved to El Salvador as a Peace Corps volunteer. Cathy calls her experience in El Salvador a defining experience. “Living without electricity is hard,” she says. “Burying children who die of fecal dysentery due to lack of infrastructure is life changing.” Cathy returned to Arizona and began work with Tribes as a Director at First Things First, a state agency dedicated to ensuring all children enter kindergarten healthy and ready. In this role Cathy became involved in nonprofits such as the Junior League of Phoenix, Prevent Child Abuse Arizona and Arizona Grantmakers Forum, and was awarded the Eddie Basha Excellence Award, Hope Award, and was one of 3 finalists for an Athena Award in 2015. In 2018 Cathy graduated from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and changed lanes, becoming the CFO of Paloma Ready Mix- which Cathy owns with her husband, Loren. Cathy believes economic development supports all people and this new position gave her the opportunity to help her community in a new way. In 2019 Cathy added, president of the Junior League of Phoenix Foundation to her plate. “It’s exciting, our board is filled with intelligent and powerful women who are passionate about building a strong community. Leading the Foundation has been a journey of listening and supporting the board to innovate while focusing on growing the endowment.” In 2020 Cathy looks forward to international travel with her young children and launching some new ideas and companies. foundationjlp.org 104 WWW.THEKNOWTRIBE.COM WWW.KNOWPUBLICATIONS.COM

While her big performances on the court have captivated Phoenix fans and the entire women’s basketball world, it’s her heart off the court that makes Brittney Griner one of a kind. But it’s her desire to be an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community— whether volunteering time and money or appearing on magazine covers to speak about her experience—that separates her. Plus, her annual Heart & Sole Shoe Drive, in which she personally collects and delivers donated shoes to Phoenix homeless. BG’s generous heart has led to her being recognized with the WNBA Community Assist Award on several occasions, but more importantly it is working to change the Phoenix community.

KNOW Phoenix is an annual publication that features dynamic women throughout the Valley in virtually every industry. Every woman featured in KNOW Phoenix has been vetted through peer-review. Because our mission is to showcase the best and brightest, the only way one can claim their slot is through nomination from someone in the KNOW book. The women featured are a compilation of proven leaders, high producers, and rising stars. Those published in KNOW Phoenix are also considered trendsetters, influencers, and women to watch. KNOW Phoenix is published annually and distributed to affluent decision makers through social and networking events and partnering businesses. While deemed the new who’s who, KNOW Phoenix also delivers readers a vetted list of local female-run businesses. Simply open the KNOW Book and find the next local woman-led business you can support with goods and services you need now!
KNOW Phoenix is produced by Know Tribe, LLC. and published annually. The women featured in this issue have been vetted by their peers and are known leaders in their industry. For consideration in an upcoming volume of KNOW, go to: www.theknowtribe.com and complete a submission.
