from the

FOUNDER AND CEO

Launched in 2017, The KNOW Women began as a way to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in the Phoenix metro. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women out from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that would feature vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style. As the momentum grew and we recognized the need for more, we launched our Collaborative around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together, and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement. The KNOW Women has expanded beyond its birthplace of Phoenix, Arizona; its aim is to launch in every major city across the United States and Canada.

DIANA TAURASI Success is the word that directly correlates with Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi at every level of basketball she’s played in throughout her entire career. During her 14-year career with the Mercury, she’s a three-time WNBA Champion, four-time WNBA Olympic gold medalist, eighttime WNBA All-Star, 2009 WNBA MVP and the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer, and also won three NCAA national championships while at the University of Connecticut. Needless to say, Taurasi isn’t just the greatest women’s basketball player of all time, she’s one of the greatest players to ever pick up a basketball. Her unwavering willingness to win, clutch performances and phenomenal play has garnished attention from some of the NBA’s biggest names such as Lebron James and Kobe Bryant, who deemed Taurasi the “White Mamba.” While Taurasi’s DNA her entire life has essentially been basketball, motherhood became a new title for her in March of 2018, as she and wife Penny Taylor welcomed Leo Taurasi-Taylor into the world. Whether on the court or off it, Diana Taurasi knows what success is, and there’s no greater basketball player or person who embodies it. dianataurasi.com Phoenix Mercury 201 E Jefferson St. Phoenix, AZ 85004 20 WWW.THEKNOWTRIBE.COM

CHIEF DEPUTY DONNA LUSCZYNSKI HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE Donna Lusczynski is the first female to ever hold the position of Chief Deputy in the history of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. She earned her title after working in the male dominated law enforcement field for the past 28 years. Before pinning on her first badge in 1991, this New Jersey native made her way to Tampa with a dream of becoming a Marine Biologist. It was during her time studying at the University of Tampa that she realized her interest was in criminal justice. After completing an internship at the Tampa Police Department, she changed her major to Criminology and applied to work for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Deputy Lusczynski has spent her career working in nearly every corner of HCSO, including patrol, street crimes, narcotics, criminal and child protective investigations. She began rising into leadership roles back in the nineties, a time when women in law enforcement, particularly in high ranking positions, was a rarity. She says diversity at the Sheriff’s Office is important in order to better reflect the community they serve.

CHRISTINA LAXER LAXER FAMILY FOUNDATION | BERN’S BLACK BOX

Making a difference has always been an important ingredient for Christina “Chrisi” Laxer. Academic achievements and athletic leadership continued when moving to Tampa, but she never imagined how her life would change when meeting her husband David. Eventually shifting professionally from a clinical laboratory to a venerable family business was an adjustment, however her dedication to family and enthusiasm for community engagement came organically. Being a mother of three daughters and active for almost 10 years with the Junior League of Tampa, she focused on volunteerism, leadership and support in the areas of education, literacy, foster care and needs for disadvantaged children. She met mentor Mary Lee Farrior and joined her pursuit and success in building Hillsborough County’s first and only Child Advocacy and Protection Center under one roof. She still proudly serves on Mary Lee’s House Board of Directors and Auxiliary. Working with Hyde Park Neighborhood Associations, SoHo Commercial Overlay District, and the Mayor’s Beautification Program to build Bern’s Park, as well as contributing in Tampa General Hospital Foundation, Women’s Leadership Council and other various organizations all fueled Chrisi’s passion for purpose. After years of events benefitting numerous other foundations, in 2018 she’s co-created The Laxer Family Foundation for a stronger basis for their charitable giving. In business she has a lot on her plate being an owner in the Laxer family brands: Bern’s Steak House, Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits, Haven & Little Midway, and a partner in the Epicurean Hotel. Co-authoring Bern’s Rare and Well Done a few years ago, she’s now adding more personal touches creating Bern’s Black Box, a new retail and signature gifting opportunity within BFW&S where wines, spirits and accessory products can be customized and either arranged at the shop, personally couriered or delivered tableside in the Harry Waugh Dessert Room.
